Shout out to the Grey Market video/editing team. These last few episodes have been exactly what I feel like is the perfect balance of watches/business/personality for this show. It's a show about a company that sells watches and you guys have been nailing that.

This is honestly my favorite episode so far. Trying to manage a growing business is super hard, especially when you're in that awkward phase between being a really small team and an actually big company. If I can offer a piece of advice: Invest in shipping automation. Having done warehouse integration in my former job, shipping software which integrates with your ERP and the carrier is a lifesaver. It pulls the address, service type, and value of the shipment right out of your ERP. Shipper packs the product, puts the package on the scale, scans the barcode on the packing slip, and out comes the label.

You have my deepest sympathy, my 180 dollar Vostok GMT was stolen in the mail and I only received the box and watch strap, fortunately as it was shipped as registered mail I had to collect it from the post office and saw the parcel had been interfered with so didn't sign for it. Luckily as it was purchased from eBay I got my money back after some to and fro and the sender calling me a scammer. I think that the x-ray machines used to scan the parcels for contraband inform the criminals in the post office and courier firms when there is something valuable in the parcel.

Many years ago I bought a digital camera from Europe. The camera arrived damaged from UPS. The camera store had insurance on the camera but I had to send it back to them. UPS insisted they pick up the camera to inspect the damage so they came to my apartment to pick up the camera. When the camera got to the inspection facility and they opened the box, UPS said it was empty. Someone at UPS stole the camera! Because UPS stores are independently owned, UPS did not accept any responsibility. UPS does NOT have a pack and ship promise. UPS stole the camera to avoid having to pay out an insurance claim. UPS sucks!

This was definitely an inside job with the package!
Out of all the packages handled daily, your package was somehow re-scheduled to London where it was never meant to go, the contents somehow go missing and then it turns up late.... And empty 🤔
Someone must have known something about what was in there or meant to be. Either that or the customer shipping it knew someone at FedEx and was able to swipe the contents yet know its insured so they would get the funds for it anyway.
0.0000000000001% chance that this is was just a 'mishap'.... Ya know, a $180,000 'mishap' 🙄 get outta here!

It's 180K you can bet your bottom dollar There's going to be a MAJOR investigation within FedEx. With the police department and all. This was an inside job, why was no inquiry made as to why the watches were rerouted to London. Either the box was empty before it went to London or it wasn’t. The only reason for the box to end up in London was to cover the theft which occurred in the repair shop here. The thief sent the box to London on purpose to cover his theft here, he’s probably the same guy who stuck the extra watch in the box so that he would create additional confusion and also score an additional watch in the bargain. The owner of the watch company needs to put someone with a brain in charge of shipping and security both.

If it's over certain amount it's labeled high value. a supervisor or something will sign off on it. there's times camera's won't see the package. like when it's put on a trailer. And the routing had to been a inside job. Someone changed the route from the facility. I worked at ups. they have a horrible problem with theft. they would have medicine like pain pills stolen all the time.I surmise it was stolen at the facility it was at when routing was changed. and then sent overseas to throw people off there tracks. If you know what your doing and catch a computer unlocked it wouldn't be hard at all. corporates loss prevention department can track to what computer or device was used to change the route and who's login was used.

@@rs-qe3de Yes your probably 95% but it wasn’t insured, by accident for some reason to hide it was a high value item, and nothing else was reported missing at their business.
The crazy thing is that it won’t be sold for the right money and it has a hot certificate.

Become an entrepreneur guys, its amazing. Secondly, my experience is that you cannot get people to care about your business. It's not their money. Everyone makes mistakes, but hardly any employees care about the losses of a business

Employees just want the meeting to be over as soon as possible. When they speak in absolutes like “we always do this or that” then they say “I don’t remember what happened in this situation” it’s concerning

Alex saying “Nick would pick something like this” sarcastically about the Arnold and Son is exactly whats wrong with the company. You got sales people who don’t even know watches. Arnold and Son is one of the best values in the secondary market!!!

By not having Elias follow a checklist for shipments, a clear cut SOP that defines the protocol for insuring higher value packages- the responsibility is not 100% on him. There should have been a checklist for each watch, no watch is sent out until everything on the list checked/ and or verified.

No matter how good your procedure is it does not matter if the courier company is responsible for the theft. And package re-routed? That should not really be possible?? An employee that "forgets" to check the value is unacceptable, simple as that. I send and receive much lower value stuff, typically $100-700, sometimes up to $1000, I NEVER forget to check the value, it has never happened ever, typically baseball cap sloppy attitude to forget to check.

We need an update from the courier showing their process and why re-routing to London. Does the watch industry use AirTags in watch boxes or are they no use?

Your sales staff needs to clean up and not look like losers. They also need to speak clearer and not sound like they've been hung over from the day before.
