When it comes to Ricard Mille’s I am like the old man that stands in the yard and screams at the kids “Get off my Lawn“. I just don’t see how something that looks like it was found in the bottom of a Happy Meal bag can get this kind of hype.
I'm a young guy and agree. They look cheap, I love a good patek. now saying that the tech to make an RM is insane and I understand why the prices are what they are.
As a wise man once said "Don't judge a book by its cover". Sure there's a ton of hype with RM, just like your toy in your happy meal; however, you can't deny RMs' G-shock indestructability combined with their complications

I had a thief take a watch off my wrist in Barcelona 3 years ago. He acted drunk and pretended to do a tango dance with me for about 1 minute. A few minutes after I realized he stole my watch. That's why I don't buy expensive watches. He got a $25 beautiful looking watch from me I bought from Aliexpress. I'd rather worry about enjoying the Barcelona experience to its fullest than worry about a watch. -Frank

That’s super that you’re trying to help locate that RM. Such a shame that you have to be wary where you wear your watch these days.
For this reason, along with cost, I’ve really enjoyed building a decent budget collection with nice watches from TISSOT, Hamilton, Seiko etc. my advice to any collector is to recognise a well presented budget watch worn by a knowledgeable collector who chooses watches well can hold its own agains any Rolex etc.

Well normally when I'm in a crowd like that I take my watch off and put it in my pocket, you never know when somebody wants it more than you do.

Sounds like RM needs to start making bracelets or add metal reinforcement to their rubber straps similar to Oysterflex.
I had never seen anything about it until I watched this episode, I just put in a preorder. That colour is amazing.

It’s such a awful feeling when you get your babies stolen, someone (prob a friend or family member) broke into my home and stole my whole collection that I was building since I was 17, and now the prices have gone so crazy that I can’t push myself to replace any of them. So pretty much I hate hate thieves that steal a man’s watch/watches!

You can buy a display F1 car which means it is devoid of mechanicals. A full F1 car including mechanicals and in operation order would be expensive, these are used for vintage racing. I do have a vintage Grand Prix car, it is a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 but it is not for sale.
these high end watches, especially Richard Mille, should have some sort of GPS on them, or a 3rd party that can facilitate a GPS on the back of the watch. it sounds crazy to say now, but that’s the future. mark my words, the future holds a lot of these high end watches with integrated GPS’s.

Unfortunately the thieves are always closely following innovation. All that would happen is they’d put the watch in a box to block the signal until their watchmaker could disable the transmitter. This idea isn’t going to fly I’m afraid.

That cashier's check thing: 100% that bank is responsible for delivering those funds. It's literally in the legal definition of a cashier's check that it is drawn against the bank...not the customer.
How is it not like any other cheque where you wait for the funds to clear before you release the goods? Surely all the 'scammer' has to do is say "cancel the check - it was stolen off me" and that's the whole point of having the check not money is that then it's cancelled?
WTF in USA people still using checks? It is like 19th centrury technology... :-D
Everybody has a smartphone with online banking or cards, WTF checks are still a thing in USA?
I am from Europe and here you can send money to someone with couple clicks on your phone in online banking app, FOR FREE (no fee like when using a card).
@@1physics It's a guaranteed instrument so there isn't any chance for funds to not clear. The bank is fully obligated to pay a cashier's check even if it is "cancelled" for being lost/stolen/damaged. The bank's beef is now with their customer to recover the funds (although I doubt they immediately issued a refund on a cashier's check) but they're still required to pay to the person presenting it.

Although Marco is clearly knowledgeable and will surely do well in sales and help the other guys out I can't help but feel coming in and just essentially calling everyone out, putting them on the spot, making them feel stupid doesn't give a great first impression.. There's ways of educating without being patronising..

I think he definitely will with some time. I think it's more a question of delivery/being nervous on camera since he's still new and being comfortable with his colleagues. I think he will get there it will just take time for him to get familiar and learn to explain watches from a place of education as opposed to it seeming like he's talking down to the guys

I guess since there's so many watches being traded around between thieves, black market dealers and whatnot the overall interest, ease of acquisition and value of high end watches will decrease. Might become the case where people are afraid of getting their hand cut off wrist down.
There are not more robberies, you are just in contact with more sources that report about it and the increase in value of some watches have made reporting on the robberies more lucrative for media companies. Sure some thieves have gotten better at targeting higher end watches, but you never hear about the other 3000 watches that has been stolen everyday for the last 120 years. So many are just churned thru gray market as "no box, no papers" because it was stolen from some grandpa that tossed the box the day he bought the watch and lost the papers a week later. So when grandpa goes to the police to report it he has no serial number, no insurance and probably no real record to say he every really owned that watch. Some watches are never reported stolen because they were bought with money you should not have like unreported and untaxed income, its an asset you did not disclose in a divorce, criminal income or you may have passed a border with it and have not paid the proper taxes making yourself liable to fines higher than the value of the watch. All of these watches pass as "no box, no papers" on the gray market and it is staggering how many watches that at one point or another have been stolen. And one thing you can bet your life on is that if dealers can get information on if a watch has been stolen or not the thieves have access to the same information to see if the watch they are trying to sell comes up as stolen yet.

Watch prices and Hype are often linked to famous people. When these people stop wearing watches and jewelry for fear of being robbed then the hype stops. This is the biggest threat to this market
I dont want a watch the price of a nice house stolen from my wrist and im sure rich people dont either. Muggings are becoming more and more of an issue as well

This episode just cost me a few grand, that shot at 6.50 of the mint green IWC pilot watch😎😎. I had never seen that before. I just went online did a bit of reading and put my name down for preorder. I'm lucky the general population where I live are really dumb so I wear my expensive watches everywhere without fear. My location Port Kembla 100km south of Sydney, Australia.
I, like Adrian, always thought a cashiers check is irrevocable. I hate scammers and this video highlights the importance of working with a reputable grey market dealer. There is a channel where the host exposes online scammers. Jenny should take the video of the scammer in her showroom and put it out on TH-cam to expose the creep.
Typically you cant without having the actual check, and she said that the bank can still see the money was still in his account. So what probably happened is they got a real check was cut in front of her and between the bank and the actual transaction a fake check was handed to her then they later canceled the real check since they still had it.
