Same here. And one thing I’m surprised reviewers don’t really talk about is how the decks on it are near identical layout and features to the SC6000 but just smaller jog wheels.
Same, I love mine. IMO it’s the best controller for bedroom DJs and people doing livestreams. Hi Phil Great comparison video. I've just bought the Prime 4+ it's a thing of beauty! Did my first gig with it last week, feels a bit strange not using a laptop, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Keep the video's coming.
You forgot about the Denton Prime Go it’s light weight and professional grade and battery powered too. It also has an aux input and good effects. I’ve tried the Numark live four and the quality of sound was not as good as the prime go. Thanks for you videos. This is Eddie with AcmeDJ’s in H town

One small correction, the SC Live 4 is compatible with a pair of Denon LC6000s if you want to plug in extra decks. I've been using the Live 4 for over 1yr and it is just as capable as any other professional unit. It's about 75% of what a Prime 4 is.
Sorry to correct you ( 7:13 ) but Denon Hardware reads CDJ USB Sticks like a charm, just needs a moment extra to import the stuff. But usually cues, loops, bpm, waveform, everything is available.
You're not correcting us, we know that but it is not a seamless insertion into the Rekordbox ecosystem, we wish it were but that's never going to happen due them being rival brands.
Denon Prime Go would have made my list. It’s a thing of its own really. Built like a tank, it’s unique in its portability, for its size has a wonderful screen. And man, the battery! Nothing cooler than really learning this machine and impress people with a small, yet extremely powerful unit.
Allen & Heath Xone 92 turned 20 years old this year; they took a limited edition Xone 92 - 920 worldwide. Can you do a review on a 92? I don't know any 2 decades old mixer model that's still in production; is ridiculous, hahah!
Im a rekordbox user and use a xz and a omnis as back up I really would like to give the prime 4+ a chance as I see that you get much more for your money. My biggest problem with the prime is that it’s not possible to switch between computer mode and standalone without to stop the music and load to another environment. An absolute must if you play for crowd. The xz switch between rekordbox and usb sticks without any problem. If Denon change this I probably will be sold.
This is a feature request in the works. I only see it coming to the Prime 4+ though and not retrograded to previous devices if it does. I also see that this feature might get limited to specific software (ie Virtual DJ) There are also workarounds, but they aren't convenient in any way. Me personally I've never run into an issue as Engine DJ has everything that serato and VDJ does, with the exception to Stems right now, so I would be curious if you personally had other reasons why you would prefer that feature
Need to correct you again ( 13:39 ): you CAN plug in the LC6000 controllers to get a full 4-deck layout. The SC Live 4 is just a different target audience than the Prime4: it’s a perfect device to practice at home for the club, given the effect Control Strip, which is close to the DJM or X1850 mixers.
Do you own live 4? I love the speaker idea but it’s lacking features that prime 4 plus has and I’m not sure what to buy. I’d be gutted if I buy prime 4 plus and I don’t like it or find layout too hard to get used to.
Moving to standalone hopefully by October but really wish NI would get in on standalone systems, imagine a Traktor Standalone, would happily buy that in a hearbeat!
Talk about perfect timing. I ordered the numark midstream pro plus and I thought it would be enough….. it reignited my love for just playing at home or streaming. Now I’m gonna send it back but I just can’t decide what to get. Gotta be standalone. Wish the opus wasn’t so limited in so many ways. This all happened today I decided this. So this video couldn’t be more perfect for me !!

7:06 I think this might be a misconception. Engine DJ makes it easy to import libraries from other systems including RekordBox and Serato, and it will import basically everything, including hot cues, loops, beat grids, etc. It will technically keep tags and color tags too, even though these aren't usable in engine DJ yet. If your fear for switching is worrying about re-prepairing your library, DON'T! This is basically seamless! I prepare my tracks all the time in Serato and have had no issues.
Glad you find this easy but... we have a support team who deal with endless conversion issues. It is not as easy as having one simple library for all your devices.
@@digitaldjtips oh I think I understand. It's more than just importing, which again I think is very easy. But going the other way (syncing/exporting) is basically non existent without use of other tools. I might try to reach out to your DDJT support team for some feedback because I have been in the process of creating my own tool like this for library management and syncing between these libraries. Really the program I was making was more focused on better beat grids as well as other focus on sound switch stuff, but should have alot of one button library syncing along with it.
After watching this video I have some question on the Numark. What does the microphone sound like running through this ? Can the HDD/SSD be changed for a bigger one ? thanks
I need help! I own a XDJ-XZ for 4 years now, and I want to upgrade. Can’t decide between Prime 4 + or Opus Quad (or don’t mind changing software). I like how looks and feels the Opus Quad, but Prime 4+ has definitely more features. Also price is not a concern
I managed to run my turntables into the sc4 live through the aux input and balanced them to sound the same. But I'm wondering if I bought a serato mixer and used the USB, would it work like the dennon deck which works through the USB?.
Correction even if you are a pionner dj using rekordbox your prime 4 or 4+ recognizes your playlist and converts it without affecting anything, but only downside it doesnt have the anylize information but it will do it for you in the fly
Ref' Prime 4+, I notice in this video, you didn't mention the Stems feature built into the decks (or am I misinformed?). I am ready to invest £2k for the white one, and this feature seems a bonus, if it really has this. So now I am hesitant and wondering if there are better options for making mash-up mixes. Your videos are very helpful, thanks for your unbiased reviews.
Hi digital Dj Tips. Would you say that the prime 4 plus is easy enough to get used to the layout? And would you also say that it’s easy enough to reach the effects knobs at far top end of the controller? Also, am I right in thinking that at the bottom of prime 4 plus, in middle of Crossfader, you have 4 of the main effects echo, flanger etc , to make using the few most popular effects more east to access/reach? Or am I totally wrong? If the main important effects are where I think they are then I will probably get on ok with this device. If anyone owns the prime 4 plus, I’d love some input. All so, prime 4 plus has Amazon Music Streaming, right? Oh, if the few main effects are near crossfader, where is the button to assign it to whatever deck? I’ve looked at photos but can’t see it.
I've been streaming 2 HRs weekly with the Prime 4+ for almost 8 months now. (My YT channel has the archives). The main reason I moved to it from Pioneer is because you can layer multiple effects on a single track through Engine's 3 separate FX systems. Pioneer has a similar (though not standalone) functionality in its Rekordbox performance software but it downgraded its controller hardware from 2017 on and there is not longer support their own 6 layer-able FX units in Rekordbox on any of its hardware. Instead they offer a single-assignable FX unit, momentary FX on the pads, a simple echo effect on the faders, and screen-driven FX (on the Opus). For me, being able to apply multiple-layers on scratch and/or mashup channels is a must-have for my style of DJing. Pioneer continues to force 2000s-era single assign FX on its lineup all the way up through its pricey flagship products and it's crazy to me.
They did it deliberately, as they will have felt most people don't use FX the way you do. I agree, it dumbs it down to an extent, but the sales of DDJ-1000, FLX10 etc I am sure they would say prove their point.
@@digitaldjtips Sales for sure. My position is, if stems actually every become a reason to buy hardware, you're going to want eight ways from Sunday to wet it down to mix parts in.
I luv my Denon SC Live4 because I am value conscious for my current level and budget => a serious hobbyist who just will play out from time to time. And it is a major upgrade from my beginner's Numark Mixtrack Pro II controller. Specifically I luv the SC Live4's long precise pitch controls for my mixes and stand alone capability. And although considered small the 7" touchscreen is sufficient if content with showing 2 of 4 decks. Yeah with more budget I would even purchase 2 Pioneer CDJ 3000s and a mixer!
@@digitaldjtips Yes Phil! I studied your reviews from last year (thanks so much) as well as several others I Googled, taking notes pros and cons of each. Then I made my selection after 16 hours +/- of research over 2 weekends. Time well spent for a fairly significant capital expenditure. Also I was able to save 15% from Guitar Center USA by purchasing over last 4th of July holiday weekend.
If you have a Denon set up at home. (I have a pair of SC 5000 & the X1800 mixer). A. can you download the latest version of Engine, or do i have to download all versions up to and including the lates version. (Eg 1.5, 2.3, 3.1 and 3.5) ? B. Do i need two sets of software to play in clubs, as i have now returned to djing and have the engine software? (Planning to buy reckbox as it works with club equipment). I have been djing for 30 years on off. Excellent shows i wish this exist 30 years ago. Keep up the good work.. Many thanks...Silvar
A. You do need to stage your updates, the updates page on the Engine DJ website explains the process. B You need Pioneer's Rekordbox software to preparer your USBs to DJ on Pioneer DJ club gear, yes, as Engine DJ libraries are not compatible. It is free.
Denon SC prime 4 or Mixon 8 PRO? I know they are quite different devices one being a stand alone and the other being purely a controller. I’m really tempted by the denon but I was looking forward to have FX paddles…
I really surprised that Numark got left behind. I thought they would have been way ahead of the game when they released the NS7. I have the Opus Quad and for me it’s not that great by itself. However when I use it with Virtual DJ I can do more tricks
Prime Go is solid. I think because a Prime Go+ feels eminent is why it's kept off the list for the time being. I love the prime Go, but those jog wheels might be a hard justification in 2024.
If you buy Denon, make sure to get the best warranty your shop offers. In one year we've had to return one SC5000, three SC6000M's, and an x1800. Very unreliable and their firmware is unstable. They also keep cramming features into the firmware in which the units can't handle.
@@BlueHawk80 I just switched to pioneer for the first time in 15 years of djing and I don't regret it. I've used denon for most of my life, but ever since they switched from japan to taiwan manufacturing their gear went downhill. Everything after the x1700 and 3900's are unreliable, and their customer service is not great. They keep cramming features into their firmware which the units cannot handle. This is my experience with the sc5000s, sc6000m's, x1800 and x1850, as I've used these progressively since 2019. We've also had to send three 6000m's back.
Best statement on Denon Ive read this is fact ppl who love Denon never got past DJing on controllers, Idk what Denons controller quality is but their seperates are the F150 turbo 4 bangers of DJ equipment, straight trash, they cant pull the weight and break often. Pioneer will always be pricey and the standard because it dont break, yes are they behind the curb with the tech because they focus on reliability, Denon focuses on the tech this is fact and heres another fun fact. Denon Alpha Theta and Pioneer DJ are owned by the same Father company, the directions these companies take are carefully planned. I am not hating on Denon I love Denon moreso then Pioneer but i side with pioneer and pay that overpriced rate for reliability. If the gear were cars its Toyota vs Kia Kia got all that nice shiney shit and awesome tech while Toyota is bland and if you want the shiney gotta buy toyotas luxoory line Lexus. Ok off the internet I go Love n light yall
Phil congratulations. I see Virtual DJ has just incorperated Fuzzy mixing into their software. I said congratulations because it is my understanding that you developed fuzzy mixing
Sad to say that I've seen a lot of people complain about various issues regarding the Opus Quad. Design wise it looks amazing but one would expect it to be of a much better build quality than some of the problems that I have seen in discussions have been brought to light. Hopefully they were only extreme, isolated issues and are very rare. . . It might be because they discussed it on DJ forums that all the different issues popped up as a whole...grouped together? Just feel that for the price it should be virtually flawless . . . or am I too perfectionistic? LOL
I always thought the Prime 2 was possibly the best, considering function and price ect, its a crime they stopped making it and instead started releasing SC Live 2 which is pants in comparison imho
Prime go is better than mixstream pro (junk build quality and sounds terrible) and only a few dollars more. Bought a mixstream pro and the thin metal plates are on with adhesive, started peeling off. Also platters off center when you move them the wovble drives me nuts.

It sounds like you've carefully considered your needs and settled on just the right unit for you David!
SC Live 4 deserves more love. Doesn‘t feel consumer to me, bug I would agree with ‚prosumer‘
The fact that it made it into the list says we like it
If you have a Denon set up at home.
It is free.
Thank you digital tips, for your speedy reply.
I look forward to your next show. Please keep up the good work, just a pity this service didn't exist 30 years ago.
I want a stadalone mixer. to use turtables without a laptop
Many of these let you do that too
A rev7 or rane one with a standalone capability is what I’m waiting for that would be cool.
Lots of people asking for a standalone with powered jogs...
With the exception of the prime go, all of the stand-alone units are made to be bigger than carry-on bag for travel.
True
The link in the description of this video points to the controller roundup, not the standalone article.
Thanks Philip, we'll get that changed
Denon SC prime 4 or Mixon 8 PRO? I know they are quite different devices one being a stand alone and the other being purely a controller. I’m really tempted by the denon but I was looking forward to have FX paddles…
As you say, the bigger decision is standalone or not.
It would be nice if these came with internal 4-8 TB SSD that you can expand on yourself when need to.
The Prime 4+ has a bay for a drive underneath.
Was that a fart noise at 24:23?
Don't think so... not sure anybody would admit it if there was 🤣
@@digitaldjtips 😂🤣
The Fart of Noise... classic 80s band :)
I really surprised that Numark got left behind. I thought they would have been way ahead of the game when they released the NS7. I have the Opus Quad and for me it’s not that great by itself. However when I use it with Virtual DJ I can do more tricks
Good to have the choice!
NGL, I kinda expected the Denon DJ Prime GO to make it to this list. But I guess the Numark Mixstream Pro Go bumped that one out of contention.
Prime Go is solid. I think because a Prime Go+ feels eminent is why it's kept off the list for the time being. I love the prime Go, but those jog wheels might be a hard justification in 2024.
I love mine. It does everything I need as a bedroom dj.
Nearly made the list
@@slopiijoe Few months ago I purchased Prime GO - 100% satisfied!
If you buy Denon, make sure to get the best warranty your shop offers. In one year we've had to return one SC5000, three SC6000M's, and an x1800. Very unreliable and their firmware is unstable. They also keep cramming features into the firmware in which the units can't handle.
We have heard this a few times, so good advice
nonsense… Pioneer troll detected. By the way, CDJ3000 also aren‘t as reliable as the prior ones
Ok off the internet I go
Love n light yall
XDJ RX3 is the best
Pls do a rx3 vs omni duo video
For almost 1/2 the cost, get the rx3 or xz. I doubt you reeeeally need 4 channels
Phil congratulations. I see Virtual DJ has just incorperated Fuzzy mixing into their software. I said congratulations because it is my understanding that you developed fuzzy mixing
We did indeed, we are glad to see it being adopted more widely
Sad to say that I've seen a lot of people complain about various issues regarding the Opus Quad. Design wise it looks amazing but one would expect it to be of a much better build quality than some of the problems that I have seen in discussions have been brought to light. Hopefully they were only extreme, isolated issues and are very rare. . . It might be because they discussed it on DJ forums that all the different issues popped up as a whole...grouped together? Just feel that for the price it should be virtually flawless . . . or am I too perfectionistic? LOL
Dig hard enough and you'll find issues with all gear... it's how the companies deal with the (as you say hopefully rare) issues that matters.
Opus quad is ugly looking too me. I reckon it was originally planned to be alpha theta Opus quad.
Could be
Also....... I think streaming platforms should have DJ related playlists, No radio edits, just full length tracks and full length remixes.
Some do
@@digitaldjtips Which ones?
No to Rane Four?
It is not a standalone dj system
@@digitaldjtips oops, yes, my mistake.
Still waitng for the ddj Rx2....
Not sure that'll ever happen
@@digitaldjtips I know...
Nothing about Traktor ?
traktor is not standalone
The 3 S’s:
Streaming, Stems, Standalone
And Engine DJ might be the first to eventually have all 3
@@slopiijoe if they perfect their stems they definitely will be. They even have an extra S….Speakers! 🔊
Once u use a 4 Chanel and streaming would never go back / that is y the Denon prime 4 is the best / I had a pioneer mixer is good but move up to Denon
Denon DJ Prime Go?
Another good choice
i do not recommend those units. A laptop with a simple controller is still the best tool.
Many people prefer standalone though.
@@digitaldjtips Sure you agree with me Mister Phil
I always thought the Prime 2 was possibly the best, considering function and price ect, its a crime they stopped making it and instead started releasing SC Live 2 which is pants in comparison imho
Prime go is better than mixstream pro (junk build quality and sounds terrible) and only a few dollars more.
Bought a mixstream pro and the thin metal plates are on with adhesive, started peeling off. Also platters off center when you move them the wovble drives me nuts.
Agreed, it’s far more professional kit if you can afford the extra
