- In Bruges is a 2008 black comedy crime film written and directed by Martin McDonagh in his feature-length debut.
The film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two Irish hitmen in hiding, with Ralph Fiennes as their enraged boss. The film is set and was filmed in Bruges, Belgium.
I just love this scene, "I know I shouldn't... but I will" the way he says it like he's being offered a slice of cake after dinner.
And that was what made him kill himself at the end, should have stuck to all of his principles.
Beat me to it! My favorite quote from the whole movie, and it's packed with absolutely stellar dialogue start to finish
This is literally what I say when I'm offered cake 😂
@@horseaphoenix1016 Using blanks and using dum-dums seems to have a parallel here.
Look at the way Ralph Fiennes looks at the one-eyed guy when he stands up to challenge him. That brief flash of animalistic excitement is hard to immitate but he nails it.
acting is his full time job, I'm sure it's not that hard for actors
@@indianmonk3380 not for the great ones. That's the point.
Guy is genius!
there is a lot of full time actors that can't act@@indianmonk3380
Suuuure, that's why we have hundreds of thousands of actors on a full time job who are all genius!
"...stitched you up like a blind little gayboy." 😂
First he gets called a bumboy and shot in the eye, then he complains about it and gets called a blind little gayboy. This man can't catch a break lol
@@pabloc8808 😂😂😂 Karmas a bitch as they say. Seriously though as an Englishman myself the way they said it to him and the words/slurs they used were almost like playground lingo. Really emphasised the fact that they were serious guys and he was a two but excuse for a thief that tried to take on people well out of his league when it comes to his business
Ralph Fiennes is one of the greatest comedic actors of our age.
And then you remember his role as Voldemort and Amon Goeth and you can say that he is one of the greatest actor of our age
Would that it were so simple...
His delivery in every scene was definitely spot on. Great actor and his accent does wonders for him.
Funny, quirky but intimidating at the same time. What a great scene.
"I know I shouldn't... but I will"
And thus, Harry sealed his fate. If he used regular bullets he would have known it was a dwarf he shot and wouldn't have to commit suicide.
ha I still learn new things about this film
I think that if Harry would have used regular bullets, the dwarf would not have been harmed in the first place.
I don't think it works that way. "Dumdums" are expanding projectiles, they create a larger wound channel in exchange for penetration. Quite the opposite, really.
It's a nice plot point, though.
@@vaclav_fejtI think? the point is that the wound the dumdums created rendered the dwarf unrecognizable as an adult
I didn't realize the dwarf got shot in the head
Ralph has the most menacing teeth of any actor.
I guess you don't count Mike Tyson as an actor. Iron Mike was in at least one movie (The Hangover, right?). Does that make Iron Mike an actor? If it does, Iron Mike has the most menacing teeth in the history of cinema.
@@billt8504 yes, this is exactly how this works. If you have menacing teeth you are an actor. Also if your name is Ralph.
Ralph Feinnes... fantastic in everything he does...
He was scary AF in Schindler's List
"You're an inanimate fucking object!"
“Eye, aye?”
"Aye, eye?"
I fucking love how Ralph Fiennes even as the enemy of Ray stands up for Ray's actions against the one eyed lad. Hahaha.
The movie does a good job of establishing that he's ruthless but he has principles. "Don't try to rob a guy with blanks" and "don't let the guy you're robbing take your gun from you" seem to be very important principles for him lol
His principles costs his life. … surreal, extreme funny movie…like snatch….
Ralph Fiennes playing the evil, sick bad guy is all I fucking need.
my all time fav movie. what a great writing and perfect casting too. funny and so emotional at same time with great sound track.
If i had a nickel for every time i've seen a protagonist being saved because the arms dealer was handing out free dum-dums, i'd have two nickels now. Which is not much but it's weird that it happend twice
Always the same tired old joke....
@@Orcawhale1The TV movie that originated this joke first aired in 2011. However, the phenomenon of insufferable pricks who insist jokes aren't funny is as old as comedy itself.
@@tuberqueue8973 Sure, now go get your shinebox.
@@tuberqueue8973which TV movie?
You mean Breaking Bad?
The deleted scenes with Matt Smith as a younger Ralph Fiennes really flesh out the character, makes him a legend and you can see why people fear him. Just a stone killer.
Matt Smith is the king of being in movies and later deleted completely from them
McDonagh could've consulted a little bit more with his armourer. The actual Uzi is right underneath the TMP.
I think the camerawork is at fault. I think they were supposed to center the frame on the Uzi, which is probably what the actor is looking at, but they screwed up. This was shot on traditional film, so by the time the film got developed and someone noticed they figured it would be too expensive to reshoot over something most audience members would miss.
Thought the same
Nah. TMP is a sort of Uzi-type weapon. For a British gangster who mostly only ever uses regular handguns they'd probably refer to all TMP/Uzi-type weapons as "Uzi's" casually.
It's actually clever writing I think.
There’s some other weird shit on that table too.
Is that a flare pistol on the right?
How are you supposed to kill somebody with a flare pistol?
@@GK1976A You could take an eye out with that.
One of my favorite Ralph Fiennes roles.
So the guy accidentally used blank ammo on his gun, somehow got his gun snatched away from him then pinned to the floor before getting shot in the face, yeah thats his fault
great dialogue, great scene. great movie.
This movie was so unexpectedly good
The Alcoves...
Uhh about the what 😂😂
Guess the cameraman didn't know which gun was an UZI...
In my top 5 movies ever brilliant thoughout
The dialogue, the performances.
Bizarrely, the camera was centered on a Steyr TMP when he commented on the Uzi (though there was an Uzi below it)
Holy shit, I just commented this myself. Glad to see someone else also noticed this. 😆
the camera on the MP9 when the UZI is RIGHT THERE!
a dent in an otherwise perfect film.
Not an MP9. A Steyr TMP.
It's weird because Martin McDonagh, the director, also wrote the script, so it's not a case of the director misinterpreting what the screenwriter wrote because it's literally the same person. The only explanation is that Martin McDonagh had no idea what an Uzi actually was.
@@McGregor43 There is an uzi right next to it, seems more like an editing oversight.
He should have been focusing on the alcoves.
@@McGregor43 The on-set armorer who provided the weapons would've winched and said something. Likely the director asked for an Uzi and 'some other weapons'. Then he saw the TMP on the table, and preferred what it looks like, but didn't want to change the joke. And to the average movie goer, Uzi means SMG (or machinepistol, in this case) anyway. Same effect as 'hoover' or 'kleenex'. I guarantee that didn't stop the armorer from winching, though.
To imagine that Ralph Fiennes who is now haunting cinema in so many evil incarnations once played a most convincing romantic lead.
When Irish guy is the operator
"aye aye"
(1:52) His smile, being amused at the non-challenge
Everyone tells the truth in this this movie.
I think he borrowed a little off Don in Sexy Beast
Well, there _is_ an Uzi in this scene. Too bad the camera or editor didn't show most of it. 😆
Wait a minute, thats not an uzi!
It Is.
@@easterworshipper730 The gun that is partially visible on the bottom of the frame is an UZI, but the CAMERA focuses on the Steyr TMP which is NOT an Uzi. BTW that's an Airsoft fake. The magazine is blued metal on the airsoft models, and the REAL guns have matte polymer magazines. So the OP is right. The gun that the frame focuses on is NOT an UZI, but the 'uzi' is still partially visible on the table.
What are gentlemen. Very polite
Why is Yuri so worried about his expressions right?
Goin on about the fucking alcoves
Uzee nein meeleemeetaah.... Perfect for home defense...
He was trying to rub him haha
why does the camera center on an mp9
The cameta is from Harry's point of view. As soon as he sees it he moves on whilst still making his wise crack.
Not an mp9. It's a Steyr TMP
harsh my ears
Какой же Рэйф Файнс охуенный в этом эпзоде!
About the what…? 😂
Absolute psycho - Ralph Fiennes is a genius
Is it just me, or did anyone else think for a split second that Ralph Fiennes had a Padawan braid in the thumbnail? I've seen the movie, and I know that makes this sound even more ridiculous.
Now that I look at it, yeah I can see padawan Fiennes getting ready to f shit up

Why do gun nerds feel the need to complain about every single detail on every single movie clip on TH-cam which has guns in it?
Because they think guns are a personality
Pathetic, isnt it
I mean, hobbies are kinda part of your personality lol@@oofowie8882

If ever there was an expectation I had for what Ralph Fiennes would call the one-eyed guy for being an idiot, a *Poof* never made the list.
"An Uzi?" Why did the camera settle on the TMP above it instead?
What's up with all these gun nuts grousing about the Uzi, and whether the camera is focused on it? An Uzi is on the table in the shot. What's the beef with it? Just obsession triumphing over common sense. If you're not careful, you stiffs might lose an eye in your quest for cinematic accuracy...
@@garyspence2128 just because someone knows what a semi truck 5th wheel is doesn't mean they're a "truck nut," or what a given type of bird is doesn't make them a bird nut or even a bird watcher.
You're missing the forest for the trees, and so is the camera composition. Sure, it's on the table, but barely on frame. Unless they were trying to misdirect you on what he would pick, or the original shot was meant to pan over everything, it makes no sense.
This isn't a Wes Anderson movie.
Harry's not some precocious twelve year old out to overcome his daddy issues by flirting with his step-sister in single-point-reference.
Black wanted a normal shot for a normal movie
@@ChartreuseDan are you high? Nothing you just said has anything to do with anything. Typical a camera should focus on the subject matter. This is like zooming in on some random bystander instead of the main character like the bystander is going to do something important.
@@jacobstaten2366 By that logic isn't it actually appropriate that the Uzi wasn't centre frame then, since it doesn't do anything important in the movie
Would this scene get made now?
It'll make a bunch of blind little gay boys mad.

funny how what he calls an "Uzi" is actually a TMP
The (mini) Uzi is the bottom one on the table, the camera pans as he makes the remark.
Why uzi bad?
I think he's just saying it's overkill for one guy. A real gangster should be able to handle it with a pistol
yeah, stop whining like a litte Trump. Using blanks saved your life from your own incompetence.
That's an MP7, in focus in the shot; but there IS an uzi next to it. DP is dumb, director or the actor? SURELY NOT THE WRITER>>>>>>XD
Ralph Fiennes worked better on the phone in this film.
It's funny yet when I look in the paper I have yet to see 10 black children killed in a driveby in Los Angeles.
