This is such an underrated film. I know it's already a cult classic, but as far as traditional film-making goes, it's an exemplary piece. The acting is like nothing else out there, literally. The pacing and timing is tight. The storyline is both tragic and darkly comedic. The cinematography is simple, reflecting the principle subjects and settings. The themes of duty and shame, even amongst killers, is done in such a way that it makes you believe how absurd it is, and that's a fantastic thing.

"I was on a very strong tranquilizer today. I wasn't waving hello to anyone today, well maybe to a horse" This is the most hilarious line in the whole movie.
I don't know why but hearing the little ding of the bottom of the glass hitting the bar as he takes his drinks away somehow hits me right in the funny bone.
It's a small detail, but I find it hilarious when the wee man is lifting the drinks off the bar and dings the bottom of one of them. This is an excellent film.
Re the "Don't hold it against me" line. My mother (British & elderly) was up in Scotland in the 90s and met some American tourists on a ferry. They said "We love it up here, they don't all hate us". My old girl replied "Oh, they do, they're just too polite to say so". She had her moments.
Gleesons face at 3:50...😁😁... Anyway, this is a quality film. It's got the lot, great performances, excellent dialogue, comedy moments, tense moments and heartfelt moments.. But they fit together because the characters feel real. Brilliant 👍
Fun fact: the actor playing Jimmy (Jordan Prentice) is actually Canadian. My dad knew him in university since they both went to school in Nova Scotia. Apparently Jordan was somewhat of a local legend among the drama/theatre crowd.
