  • Is Walden University a diploma mill? Some would say yes, as they do not see that this university is fully accredited. It is a vast institution that can handle a massive enrollment. Just because it's online learning doesn't mean it's a diploma mill. #waldenuniversitymsn #pmhnpstudent #waldenunivesity

    My Background:
My name is Ciara, a registered nurse currently pursuing higher education in nursing. I am currently attending Walden University studying to be a mental health psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP). I got my associate degree from a brick and mortar school, then went to get my bachelor's in the science of nursing from Western Governors University (WGU), a 100% online-based university. At one point, I was taking MSN informatics over at WGU. However, I had a change of heart and found a place at Walden University to be a psych NP. Like almost any education, you get out what you put in. If it is accredited and you pass the same boards as other PMHNPs, then it is legit! 👍

Are all the man level classes 11 weeks. Right now I'm doing a portion of the ban classes and they are 6 weeks. I was wondering if you are able to break down each classes what to expect as you did the transition to msn class. Thanks

I am enrolled in a Doctorate Program and I can attest that you can and will get D's and F's on assignments and you can fail classes pretty easy. If it was nationally accredited, I would say yes, but being that it holds regional accreditation (the gold standard), I would not consider it a diploma mill,

It's accredited but it's looked down on and it's no where near as rigorous as doing a PhD at r1 or r2 research university

It’s accredited but for example, the business school is not up to standards as a normal university. Most big schools in the US are AACSB business school accredited but colleges like Walden, WGU, U of Phoenix, etc, do not have that accreditation for their business programs.

    • @AquilaGriffin

Totally understand that point but as a WGU grad now in HR it’s not something generally cared about.

Graduated, now practicing as an NP. I got a job offerSSsss 2 weeks after I graduated. I interviewed at a few places and most of the people who interviewed me were MD's and NP's who went to a brick-and-mortar school. I have no problem at all. They didn't even care - all they wanted to know was when I was sitting to get my certification.

I’m guessing because of the price tag UW’s DNP compared to Walden’s. It’s half the price and allows you to work while going thru school

Most schools are not difficult to be accepted into. Lol A lot of nurses attend technical and community colleges and these are not difficult to get into at all. Just because you are accepted into the program doesn’t mean you don’t have to do the work required to maintain your position in the program and graduate. Also, let’s not forget that there is a licensure exam that everyone takes after graduation. So, being accepted into a program alone does not necessarily mean anything in and of itself. It’s graduating and becoming licensed that matters. 😂😂
