Throttle Controllers - Are They A Waste Of Money??? 🤑🤑🤑

  • On social media I have been kinda bagging these devices for years. Honestly, if you want to go faster just put your foot down more. Why would someone spend a few hundred dollars on a device that simply tricks the car into thinking you want to execrate more. Anyway, a company found me and talked me into testing one. Here is how it went.

    I fitted the I variety in my NP300 (made a video too) and I was quiet surprised with it in the quickest setting! also tried the slowest setting and it definitely does some sort of voodoo magic to the throttle! and since installing it my fuel economy has dropped to 9.8 and I have a 2" lift with 33s also been tuned.

    I had seriously thought about removing the throttle motor on my manual Mazda, making up a lever to the butterfly and making up a cable system, I was so unhappy about the feel of the accelerator. Luckily, I was steered onto these throttle controllers. What a great idea. Installed it in 5 minutes, and now my car feels like my previous car on the throttle response. Best money I ever spent on a car. I know it's not faster in top speed, but in acceleration off the line and in overtaking, it's definitely better.

    In my opinion they are good for diesels, I had one on my amarok and it removed a lot of the “diesel lag” and made it more punchy off the line. Now I have a patrol y62 not sure it would have as much benefit as they take off great and are much more responsive from factory.

      Maybe you will need some new throttle controller that specifically taylored for diesel engine.

    I bought one for the opposite reason to many - to dull down the low end throttle response of my Mustang. The 0-15% throttle position is too touchy around town, so in Eco mode it reduces the response a lot, but at full pedal it's still reading 100%, so it wont alter the full throttle power at all.

    You appear to not understand how electronic throttles work. It's electronically taking away any lag time, giving you instant throttle response.

    • @coreyw427
      @coreyw427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The lag time, if any, is programmed into the ECU. The pedal is simply a sensor which gives a voltage indicating the position (0-5v = 0-100%) to the ECU. There is no delay in the pedal. If you’re interested this is why the pedal has 6 wires. It actually has two sensors for redundancy, one is reverse (5-0v = 0-100%). The six wires are 2x ground, 2x 5v power and 2x position voltage to the ECU. There’s nothing “smart” about a pedal and since the delay time is in the ECU it is not possible to overcome it with a controller.

    I fitted a iDrive to my Dmax same thing just plug in and off ya go , no leaving doors open or taking the key fob 20mts away . I was told by plenty of knockers it was just a con , so I decided to prove em all wrong . I initially thought " wow " just like everyone else spun the wheels when I didn't mean to . I know they do not give you any more power but it feels like it . Anyway I decided to do some testing with a stop watch , my SC2 set to record performance . I tried it on all terrains around town , flat roads , all through the Vic highcountry roads and tracks , loaded , unloaded , towing our Tvan believe me I really wanted to prove the knockers wrong but guess what they were right and I just turned it off . I left it connected for 100K until I traded the Dmax on the 62 , I would turn it on every now and then and play with it for a bit , all that did was confirm I didn't need it . They would be a good thing if you could use one like the good old hand throttle for winching , topping up batteries ect . I know there are plenty of ppl that will say I'm full of it and yep if you fit one and just turn it on of coarse you will think its great just like I did at first .

    The reason why you mistakenly think its like putting your foot down harder is simple. Its because you are not understanding how modern wire throttles work electronically rather than the old school cabke throttles.
    The modern electronic throttles delay the response to improve fuel consumption and economy.

    • @jackofjr
      @jackofjr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they just increase the voltage with less throttle movement , the iDrive on the higher setting , I had full throttle with the peddle half way to the floor . My bike has a similar button with only 2 positions Touring and Sport , its great on the bike when I need WOT , in touring I need to take a second grab to twist it further , I nearly got caught out overtaking a couple of times , I just leave it in S now .

    • @davidwilliams7552
      @davidwilliams7552 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it reduces the lag created electronically. Modern throttles have no cable... its an electronically modified response. This guy making the video doesnt understand that.

    To me it's been worth every penny. Just don't buy the priciest one out there. I got a cheap one from Amazon at around $60 that I hope lasts three to four years (the reviews on Amazon say they last that time or more) and then I can order another one. After those two, I'll be getting a different vehicle and I won't have even spent $100. My throttle controller has given my truck a 1:1 response when stepping on the pedal like back in the day with cable accelerators.

      I never said it simulates a heavy throttle action. If you plant yor foot withot an idrive you will not get full acceleration as fuel will not burn as the turbo will not add enough air. As for getting a diff lock kit quality 4wd suvs and utes have both a centre diff lock and a rear diff lock which can be engaged on demand. Skimmed brands cut costs. Some atrocious 4wd would be vehicles can not be driven on bitumen in 4wd without getting binding and wrecking their inferior drive trains.
