  • We get bombarded in the comment section about how rubbish/fantastic throttle controllers are. SO, we did some research and after a few years of using them we decided to make a vide addressing this. Are they worth it?
    Spoiler: We gained 1000hrsprs.

To all those who are against throttle controllers ,try one first ,if you own a ford ranger it's a must , mine is my daily driver 90% on tarmac, and when you go to put your foot down there is a lag ,this can be a pain when you want to overtake or speed up to get out of trouble, the controller don't give you any more horse power it just gets the revs up there faster and it does it faster than you just using your foot so how can you slag something off without trying one first

US watcher here. I have a Tacoma that is tuned so for everyday driving I leave my EVC X throttle controller (which I think is an Aussie product) on the factory setting but for wheeling it is a huge help in eco mode for slow crawling or in ultimate for a throttle boost for blasting through muddy bogs.
    Great video 👍🏻

No the throttle controller makes hell of a different, infact I had to turn mine down ,I now use mine on Auto mode, it drives like factory but when I put my foot down it makes a hell of a different, just remember it also works in reverse so go careful, I nearly crashed my truck into my house reversing onto my drive

      @crazycressy7986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@davidl9687 this clearly shows you have not got a clue ,in all other comments I stated it do not give you any more HP, It just gets your revs up there faster ,when you fit something different to a vehicle you have to get used to it because of muscle memory, at the start of my drive there is a rased curb this would take a little press on the throttle to bump over the curd ,tight to my drivers side is my neighbours house wall and I have to come in on an angle and also watch out for my wife's car and 2 wheelie bins plus I have full blacked out windows ,it's a bit of a job ,you get use to how much pressure you use on your foot ,now the day I put on the throttle controller I took it for a spin ,great as it gets you upto seed faster and using less throttle pressure, now when I return home I go to reverse my truck back to it spot ,not realising the throttle controller also works in reverse but because I was use to the amount of foot pressure to use getting over the curb and not crashing into everything but no the throttle controller gave me more revs, thus nearly taking out my wall ,now are you clear on why maybe you need to ask a civil question next time and stop being a Karen ,infact go and get a throttle controller and try it yourself it might even put a smile on your face

The throttle controller is just a multiplier, simple.
When you depress the accelerator, the module on the accelerator sends an electronic signal to the ECU, which responds accordingly. A throttle controller sits between the accelerator and the ECU. So for example, you depress the accelerator giving it say 25% input, the throttle controller tricks the ECU into thinking you've given it 50 or 60% input. Hence the perception that it is more responsive. It's not. Pressing your foot down harder yeilds the exact same response from the ECU. It just appears more responsive with less foot input because it's multiplying the signal.

Had a HikeIt in my 2017 MU-X. Made a huge difference and wouldn't live without it.
Have a 2022 Hilux now and honestly don't believe I need it. Heaps less turbo lag (once warmed up like any diesel).
It's horses for courses and every vehicle is different. They do make a difference and a for some vehicles, it's a huge difference.

Why call someone with a different opinion a troll? I mean in simple terms it changes the input you throttle receives and sends on to your engine to your liking - that is cool and for one or the other model that might be a huge improvement - on the other hand some might have variable settings from factory and one might be happy with that... I would call neither side of opinion a troll as it is a personal thing. It is similar to the old discussion Manual / Auto or Toyota /Nissan and so on - you need to find the "thing" that fits you and your driving style in my opinion...

Now do a test with your 4x4 tuned for torque and try with the throttle controller off.
No matter what kit you've got, there are situations where you need some kinetic energy.
At the end of the day the most important "tech" is driver skillset.

I’ve personally found they’re better in autos over manual because it makes it hard to smoothly shift gears. Low range isn’t as bad because you don’t need the accelerator so much when disengaging the clutch. While they definitely have their moments, i think to leave it in factory in most situations because I know how the car is going to react. More experience with the controller might help but I haven’t felt a need it. In an auto though, 100%

These Hiluxes have very little throttle lag, I've driven my parents' 2010 and they are quite responsive. Drive something newer like a new Dmax, they have heaps of initial lag compared to this model of Hilux.
My 2021 BT50 (basically a Dmax) is the same, so I got a HikeIt throttle controller to help get rid of the initial spongy feeling

I can see how this might be helpful on a laggy engine. It's not for me mainly because my truck has decent torque even off boost and it sppols early, also since it's a mechanical pump and not drive by wire on like a newer vehicle it gives me the throttle response and feel to get through what i need when i need it.

Gear ratios help also, I have a NA 1HZ 105 series no lockers with a simple 2 inch lift and running AT tyres 1st low 4x4 with almost zero right foot works for me in most cases if not max trax or my winch will get me out of trouble without valve bouncing the crap out of my engine 🤙🏼

Also drive a heavy old hilux. I love my throttle controller for the otherside of things. In the higher setting, having a more aggressive curve is the only way I can get the old girl moving on the blacktop. It really helps get those revs up from stationary.

I'm a total fan of throttle controllers, but despite showing the graph, you still seem to talk like it is adding power. I loved mine for that feeling of better throttle response, because I rarely put the pedal to the metal, but economy mode helped in rough terrain so it didn't feel like I was surging forward every time I hit a bump and bouncing on the pedal. My wife had one in her car as the throttle felt very touchy, and economy mode helped smooth/dull the throttle response.
It will never add power, but it will adjust the pedal input to give you the power you have when you want it.

I'm not convinced that it would be worth it for me, I have the same model Hilux as you, but with the 1GR engine and the auto box. So, there's no lag to contend with, a flat torque curve to keep it consistent, and fast response when I need it. The only situation I can see it helping is really rough terrain that throws me around in the seat.

I get why 4wd channels try to show the advantage of fiddling with the throttle controller but really any comments from people who say they don't need one that's becaue they don't have one. They make almost any modern diesel far better to drive in all situations.. I've had 4 diesels 4 throttle controlers and they have all been far better to drive. Just get one you will love it!

They literally do nothing for power and simply tell the ecu you're pushing your foot further down than you actually are. @@willb8812 100% agree with you. I'm saving for a Tune BUT not too make Huge Gains my tune will be just getting AFR 's in a sweet spot and maybe a tiny Tweak. My big heavy girl is laggy but I'm not towing or doing anything with it so my controller is off.. I come back from ANDREW DRYNAN PARK today via Boonah / Rathdowney and noticed when going up a hill I really had to push the pedal to the floor gently and it remained in 6th ( got a torque converter lock up kit) NOW IF I had my controller on Sport in the same situation and pushed the pedal like I did today it would ( changed the Curve / Responsiveness) and it would have violently dropped back to 3rd and feed it because of the change of Curve.. Im not sure if they even work on older cars. I think it's a newer common rail Electronic gadget thingy 😁 😁 😁 😁
And personally believe that they're designed for Towing.. When you're cruising down the hwy and see and opportunity to pass someone, It's reflex response to go is remarkable without the Laggy time to build boost and then decide to go..

I do like my throttle controller and will put it only down to an improved / pleasurable driving experience, akin to getting some good seats.... No one is gettng up or through any obstacles they can't or couldn't get up before with a throttle controller, just like seat upgrade won't help you climb that rock step either. Sure the seats make you happy and you feel a little less fatigued / your back is thanking you when you step out at the end of the day. Let's just all agree it can be much nicer to drive with one and stop trying to convince people something that it doesn't do and the trolls will go away.
