What's amazing to me is how much trouble the guy went through to get his vehicle to a repair shop he thought he could trust. If the owner from Virginia thinks the best guy for the job is in Kansas, there's a problem here.
It is a problem. 80% of shops in the US are incompetant, or dishonest. Very sad actually
I agree Wizard. I have a 2011 Dodge 2500 Cummins with clicking actuator in the dash. Like this customer, I will want every upgraded door, actuator, heater core and a/c components in the dash replaced. I’ll be calling crazy D about it. But I will personally drive my truck from West Virginia to Kansas to get the work done. NO SHIPPERS!! Great content as always Wizard!
@@CarWizard The good, competent, honest car shops :
While at my VW shop this morning waiting for my radiator install and inspection - The woman answering the phones for appointments says - next opening is July 18th - today is June 22...almost 1 month...
This place is the best! and people know it...
Moral of this story - Have at least 2 vehicles- if one is down- you got a back-up car , cause it's gonna take weeks to get it fixed at the good, honest, competent shop.
Otherwise- yes, you can get it fixed fast... but, you're rolling the dice .
yeah, the guy has no sense and is too lazy to search. whether we realize it or not every single one of these videos is an advertisement
@@CarWizard okay scotty
Bought a 1977 cutlass 10 years ago with 4,600 miles in pristine condition. The shipper was professional and the whole neighborhood watched as this brand-new 1977 cutlass rolls out of the trailer. I'd drive it on Saturday to find garage sales and get comments. The shipping cost was a bit high but man that car unwrapped like a dream. Medium green with a white top.
We had a baby blue 75 when I was a kid. To this day, my mom wishes she had never sold it. The 77s rectangle headlights and similar body lines make it one MEAN MACHINE! Enjoy your Oldsmobile!
I think reputable shippers will be expensive, but that's ok. It's the cheap fly-by-nighters you have to watch for. Your vehicle may even be "lost" in shipping. It's happened. There's cars that were supposed to to be shipped from California to say, Texas but ended up in South America..
Had a 76 cutlass Supreme brougham in hs probably my favorite ride to this day
@@philspear73 same here, the only car I cannot forget.
"the bitterness of poor quality will long remain AFTER the sweetness of low prices are long forgotten"
When it comes to shipping, I will only ever use Montway. I've used several others, but they picked up one of my vehicles I bought at an auction and they accidentally hit a painted mirror. They paid to replace the mirror, not just some touch up paint, they replaced the mirror. I've never used anyone else ever again.
Things happen, but what matters most to me is what the company does when it happens.
Montway is a broker. They have no rolling stock. They sub everything out on load boards like Central Dispatch and pay the lowest rates per mile in the industry. They didn’t buy you a mirror, they withheld payment from the guy that actually hauled your car.
This is so confusing because I heard so many negative things about them.
Having shipped cars, I agree, way more drama than I expected... And games too! Never again.
As a tow truck driver hearing the shipping stories really boil my blood.
Never had anything shipped but I’ve had only good experiences with local tows! Always been good guys, mostly competent. One time I had to tell the driver that traffic was stopped and he had to pull onto the shoulder to avoid a major major major collision. He was looking at his phone😊😂
Don't watch B is for Build getting his 24 Hours of Le-mons Bentley delivered to the race track.
I drive a nine car hauler. I'm listening to these stories thinking "yeeeaaah I've seen that before", but the worst ones are the bits of story where I'm thinking ".... Yeah I've been that guy".
All of us are new at one point. Mistakes happen, you gotta learn from them, it's failing to learn that gets folks into real trouble. I like to tell folks "I'm a professional not because I've never made a mistake, but because I've made so many". A lot of these "low quality" shippers hire folks who don't care, are not trained, or just should not be running vehicular freight. Shipping cars is haaaard, and it's not for everyone.
I’ve seen plenty of tow truck drivers tailgate and cut people off. Are you using that F550 tow truck to deliver pizzas?
The incompetent losers make the good guys look bad too.
Shipping a car is unnecessarily stressful but patience and flexibility are key. Be selective, as said here, don’t be afraid to pay a bit more for a trouble-free experience.
In this case "Shipping a car is unnecessary" would have sufficed.
@@EarlofBaltimore Depends on the distance. So no, basic information would not have sufficed. Make sure that a flip-flop driver isn't behind the wheel of the big rig. That's the problem with most lower tier moving companies - unqualified foreigners driving the trucks. I just hope that this truck was also checked for death wobble, which is common with 3rd gen 2500's.
@@ABRetroCollections So I guess my point is why would you ship a vehicle 1100 miles to have these services done? I don't rightly care who is behind the wheel. It could've been so easily avoided.

Lol shoot after the first one I pick it up myself
These crappy trucking companies and drivers make us professional truckers look bad. Whether I'm dealing with a customer or my employer, I try to put myself in their place and look out for their best interests. Bad people work in every industry. When I find a good auto shop, trucking company, dentist or whatever, I am very happy and grateful, because they can be so hard to find. Cheers.
Still a good truck in 2005! Love that era for Ram.
Hey Wizard & Mrs Wizard, thanks for shedding some light on the pitfalls of using cut rate shippers!!! This is a good example of "you get what you pay for" !! 👍👍🙂
No, it is a good example of "you do not get what you paid for" !!
I cannot believe this truck was from the story you told awhile ago! I was sure it was a goner. Glad to see it made it to Omega
Good thing it wasn't a goner... The owner took good care of that truck, you can tell he loves it and dosent want a new truck.
Finally an American truck...a diesel one too! Wizard, you need more of these videos on your channel including Chevy Duramax's and Ford Power Stroke.
My grandpa recently bought a studebaker Avanti sight unseen and from a dealership across the country. No issues with shipping other than waiting for it, unfortunately that "perfect" condition Avanti has just been a pain.
He's working on it though and i really like it :)
Ever since Bill (Bill Paxton) drove one of the then new red one in Twister, I have always loved the Ram. The styling is still unique now and very handsome and I too maintain that early 2000s was the peak of car quality for many. Hence why I’m keeping my 2005 V70 forever lol. I work at Copart here in the UK and we actually have a white Ram 3500 in - same shape/year as this. It’s great! Awesome video Wizard and just shows how people will go out of their way to stay with decent garages and people
Those RAM trucks are becoming popular in Australia also. They will pull loads that will bring down a Toyota Hi Lux and burn up the clutch on the HL.
Walker Texas Ranger in 94 as well.
I used to work for Foden Trucks in Cheshire (UK) many years ago. The Cummins engines were massively popular because of their reliability, longevity and ease of maintenance.
Sorry pal, the whole motor industry is crawling with scammers and crooks, there’s good people in it don’t get me wrong ! But from mfrs downgrading build quality, dealers conning and cheating in every direction, dodgy transport and mechanics who can’t. It is a minefield, and you’re helping us through it. Thank you.
So in other words wherever you live send your car to Newton, KS?? Horse...
Wizard you are the best. I bought a KIA Soul about 10 years ago. It never breaks down. Everything on it still works. Everything. No leaks, no failures. I liked it so much I bought another for my wife. Worked out the same. KIA Souls 2010 and 2012 burner editions.
very nice truck and glad there was a happy ending on this one.I remember Wizard mentioning in crazy shop stories. I noticed the foam in the vents indicating the vent diverter flaps are deteriorating. Its amazing those doors and manufacturers using that foam which i know keeps it queit but not a long term solution. Good luck with that.
I've occasionally thought about getting into hauling cars for people. I like to drive, I like to tow. I'd only do single vehicles, and I'd do door-to-door. The problem is, every time I've looked into doing it, what I would need to charge to make even a mediocre profit would be far more (2x in some cases) what people want to pay.
just to give some numbers as context i'll use some data from experience towing my own stuff, and a couple of friend's vehicles. I'm ~2000 miles from the Wizard. I get about 15mpg towing an open full steel 20' trailer with a 4000# car on it. Take fuel at $5/gal (gotta run premium when towing), pay $20/hr only on driving time (30.75 hours each way), that's $2560. That doesn't include insurance premiums, wear and tear on the rig, food, hotel, etc., all of which cut into that number.
Now I know, most of these shippers haul more than 1 vehicle. It doesn't divide the costs as much as people think, until you get to hauling 10+ cars on a single rig and there's a single drop point.
That truck especially with the cap on it, that was probably brought in on a triple goose neck.
You can hotshot all kinds of things. Find a large auto campus, I live by one and there's so many guys constantly with every trailer you can imagine.
It is almost the first weekend of summer and the Car Wizard had numerous vehicles that were dropped off at Omega Auto Clinic. I am definitely hoping for more videos of these vehicles that are coming into the shop for maintenance and/or repairs. For example, maybe the third-generation, 2019 Toyota Highlander AWD mid-size crossover with the 3.5 L V6 engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission. The Car Wizard will hope that the customer of this vehicle took care of it properly, because these eight-speed automatic transmissions will be problematic sometimes. Anyway, keep up the great work at the Car Wizard shop. Thanks.
Love it ! There is just something therapeutic about Mr. & Mrs. Wizard !!
Mode doors are easily fixed through the glove box, look up heater treater. All metal parts, no more plastic.
I can relate to two things in this video.
I, too, have an older Cummins Ram: my 1998.5 2500 that I special ordered, and had to wait six months for it. I'm working through a pretty good-sized list to keep it going, hopefully, for at least another 15 years.
Vehicle shipping: I will only use Horseless Carriage. Your vehicle is loaded into an enclosed trailer, and is not touched until its driven out at the destination. Yes, they are not cheap. I used them on my 2nd car, after a bad time shipping my truck.
I had used A to Z Auto Shipping. They were terrible. They don't tell you that your vehicle may be driven, at times, to various "collection points". They had left the door(s) open at sometime at one of these stops, long enough that a bunch of leaves blew into the cab. They, stupidly, backed it onto an open trailer, so that wind pressure from driving on the highways popped the hinged ARE fiberglass bed cover open (yes, it had been locked). They compounded that stupidity by bungie-cording the cover, gouging the tailgate with one of the hooks. Incredibly incompetent and callous.
Gorgeous truck! So that's where the 308 is! I didn't say anything, but I've been thinking it! 😄 I appreciate the great shipping tips Wizard. In the not too distant past I've shipped cars back and forth between CA and TX multiple times and had good luck. But times have indeed changed. Although I don't have plans for shipping another vehicle any time soon, it's good to know what to watch out for and how to protect my interests. Thanks Wizards!
Lovely to see how one of these great Cummins 5.9 trucks is holding up. I have an ‘06 3500 that I drove off the show room floor almost 19 years ago. The longer I have it, the more I love and appreciate it. Wouldn’t trade it for a new one.
Heard many horror stories about shipping a vehicle; when I bought my Dodge, I got lucky finding a “drive away” that was to be delivered 20 miles from the seller, where I took a Lyft, exchanged paper, got a temp permit, and drove home.
I just bought an 05 with 100,000 miles. Same color, same painted silver grill etc. i really love my new/used truck.
After you receive your vehicle from the shipper, check all fluid levels immediately. The shipper that my in-laws used got a "clever" idea to lighten his load a little. To save a few dozen pounds of weight, he had drained most of the fuel, coolant and windshield washer fluid from all vehicles on the trailer. Absolutely ridiculous! We were furious! How can you drain coolant and not tell the customer about it?! Good thing I was there when the car was unloaded, I checked everything right away (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and I gave that shipper a piece of my mind. A few pieces, in fact! No damage to the engine, by the way, but how stupidly unprofessional! His response? "We do this all the time to lighten the load." Wow! OK dude. We will never do any business ever again.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I love that Wizard can put a crazy insane title on a video and I know it won't be clickbait.
Damn, it looks great from 15 feet away!
This is a really good example of this gen Ram, especially for the mileage. I've had all the same problems with mine, same truck but mine has 186k on it now.
that's how these things should be done, keeping your car going when there's nothing wrong with it that can total it out, keep it going... kudos to the owner.
Love the front end. The grill reminds me of the Viper. Very 90's look.
When I drove 18 wheeler. I often seen "budget" cat haulers sleeping in customers cars idling to run AVAC, So they can conserve their fuel.
A phone call goes a long way to giving your mechanic a heads up. Asking for service A bit then at the last minute wanted B, C ans D is a very dubious thing.
Surprise surprise a Ram with busted AC! We have 08 & 10 4500 Rams at work and they're ALWAYS in the shop for the AC! ...and transmission solenoids!
Hey Mr and Mrs Big Ox amazing job , we need more people like you
🤫🤐 And you have to make the exact some comments over 20 times !....
2012 and older diesels are the way to go. No stupid EPA regulations. Wizard, you are 100% correct. All that additional emissions equipment is "choking the life" out of the engine. Literally!
Luckily, in Texas they are pretty relaxed with deleted diesels, unless youre "rolling coal" down the road
Ehhh actually it’s around 03 before the EGR started and 07 the DPF… both nothing but problems and choke the hell out of the engine.
Well done Wizard love what you do!! All the best!!❤❤❤
I sprung for the aluminum mode doors and pulled the dash out to replace all of them. Went ahead and replaced the heater core and evaporator. Don’t have to worry about them anymore.
Great video. Sorry the owner had such problems. Always love to see the 66 Chevelle in the background. Looking forward to the next one.
BlenddoorUSA is the only way to go with replacing the blender doors, along with a new evaporator and heater core while the dash is out.
Its never dull in the life of the Wizard... Here in NZ there is a massive shortage of Transport Trucks... Only once seen a Car truck on its side... not a pretty picture... what is that old chestnut... 'Pay a Dollar get a Dollar'... agree, if you value your car... use a proper shipper..
Been waiting for this 🍿🍿
At first I was wondering why send a vehicle like that for for basic maintenance, but when you brought out the list it made sense.
What an awesome owner, the man knows the value of that truck and keeping up on all the maintenance will give him many years of worry free motoring ahead.
he knows the value of that truck but still used the lowest bidder when shipping his car?
@@littletimmy7057 Yes, people who don't ship vehicles regularly aren't aware of the difference. I'm assuming you've never had a vehicle shipped before?

Thank you Wizard and Mrs. Note two size diesels in Ram trucks, 3.0L is Italian made, the 6.7L is a Cummins, smaller one is OMG it is a whole new world: buying vehicles online sight unseen, shipping vehicles across the country to repair. The truck is cursed.
This needs a follow-up video for the work being done.
There’s TONS of hot shot drivers that literally have zero business being in the shipping business. Many of which have very little if any experience loading, delivering or especially hauling. And honestly? As a trucker with well over 2 million miles. There’s MANY steering wheel holders in 18 wheeler ls that also have ZERO business in the business.
Any Schmuck with a diesel dually pickup can become a shipper these days and that's the problem. I shipped my late mother-in-law's Lexus from NJ to the suburbs of Atlanta GA a few years back when she moved down there. I paid extra using a shipper who wasn't the cheapest. I'm glad I did, they did a good job with no damage to the car and got it there when they said they would. The old saying, "You get what you pay for" proves true time and time again usually.
I've had 1 car shipped to me after purchase. Usually I try to work out a trip to pick up the car/truck myself, have a fun road trip home. This one time, I didn't have time and I asked the seller, a reputable used car dealer in Ohio, who should I use? He gave me his recommendation and said he'd been using them for years, rarely a problem, always good/great service and reasonbable pricing (2013). Get recommendations from people who ship vehicles all the time! See if you can overnight an Apple air tag for the seller to put in the vehicle and help track it.
I thought this was the one you told about a while back. Glad to see it finally got there.
Thanks for the heads up on shipping. 👍🏻
Honestly can't fault the owner for the logic that putting a few grand in repairs will net him another 300k. Had a boss with a similar truck with near 400k miles on it, ran like a dream.
First thing she noticed was the long dipstick 😮
Nice looking truck.
If only I could magically ship cars from the UK I’d have you service my little Citroen C1, trustworthy mechanics are hard to come by here as well.
The Wizard's story here with this truck is just one reason why Jonny at the Car Ninja no longer accepts out of town jobs to work on in his shop, per a previous announcement he made in one of his videos. So many things that can go wrong to Jonny and on the way back to the customer.
That is so true..cheaper is not better...check previous comments...past performance is key ...ask for a copy of their proof of insurance...also specify an enclosed trailer to avoid damage that could occur in transit
Thank you for the update on the 308.
Great info on the part cannon video. I'm the owner of an 88 f150. Have been for 35 years. Still doing well. Does have a problem with wipers. Does the system have a hidden relay?
Mr and Mrs Ox u guys are amazing keep up the good work
I am getting ready to replace the doors on my 2006 2500 with the alluminum blend door usa doors. I am not replacing it with plastic ones
Thank you for sharing the story behind shipping of this Dodge ram
On any of these turbos, get durable air filters. Had a friend whose air filter folded and entered the turbo. The turbo shattered and entered the intake and broke the valves and pistons. I believe he said that filter cost him $6000+ and that was in 2012 i believe
I would only use OEM filters, or very high quality aftermarket.... Some of the parts store cheapies are not reinforced and can fall apart.
This truck is in REALLY good condition!! 👍👍
With all due respect your customer has more money than sense. There are plenty of reputable repair shops on the east coast that could have taken on this job and provided top-notch service. The fact that he wasted money shipping it to Kansas is insane.
It seems you haven't been watching the Car Wizard much. This is not the first vehicle he's had to come in from some other part of the country. Many others have either had vehicles shipped to him or brought to him themselves.
@@williamjones4483 just because other people have done it doesn't mean it makes a lick of sense. This isn't a lambo that needs an exotic shop. It's a dodge with 300k.
@joylesstiger there may be reputable shops but if someone is having an issue finding one, has an issue with multiple others he thought were reputable and is at his wits end but know for sure Kansas will at least give him an end to the whole ordeal, the shipping cost sounds like it's less than multiple other shipping orders or headaches to just know for sure it's done and done right, especially if they are busy guy who doesn't have as much time etc.
@@williamjones4483 Actually I've been watching the Wiz for quite some time now, and he's great. There are a lot of top-tier mechanics out there though. I have to question someone that decided to go through the headache of shipping a vehicle from Virginia to Kansas though. Sounds like someone didn't do their homework to me.
@@reptilez13 Minus headaches plus a LOT of money. Is it really worth it? More money than sense. I'll stand by that...

Mr and Mrs Ox great job keep up the good work
When wizard was in the side mirror, you should have said it’s good at finding bald spots
I had the unusual situation. I bought a boat in Texas. My shipper had some type of medical issue caused by mosquito bite. He went home to Minnesota for about a month. Luckily, I got it intact.
"We don't really work a lot on big diesels" (big bus trying to hide in the background)
For the shipping B.S. He could have just drove it out and flew back. probably cheaper in he long run.
There is a catch to those Air Tags. Someone with an iPhone has to be within blue tooth range. It is actually giving you the location of the apple device that pinged it, not the air tag itself
Nice to know that.
What is the problem????
It is within blue tooth range. Is that feet or miles???
Excellent video!
Yes, Jared left us hanging at the end. Please link to part 2, I saw part 1 a week ago, but can't find part 2.
354,000 miles on my Ram 3500 cummins dually 👍👍
most shippers are really good and ahead of schedule, usually they require partial payment to pickup and partial payment upon delivery and I tip if its all good
When we moved from CT to CA the relocation company hired a professional company. We still cleared everything out.
OMG it showed up!?!? 😲
I can see the exterior door moldings are up on backwards on the front doors.
There are a bunch of great diesel shops on the east coast.
I take my dodge 2500 cummins to 603 diesel in new Hampshire. A bit on the pricey side, never had a bad experience. Spot on with finding the problem and fixing it.
They also have manchester diesel and central diesel professionals in Boston Massachusetts. I heard great things about those shops.
i love your videos you are such a good person for explaining things and tricks. Can you do a video about buy this not that but for minivans you have done all categories except this one. Thank you😀
A truck from my home state awesome ❤
His truck is awesome.
Had a shipper deliver a truck from Delaware to Washington D.C. They towed it wheels down, and toasted the transmission. Didn't pay the claim. It cost me a transmission.
The shipper, a rollback with a stinger said he had no idea you couldn't tow an automatic trans rwd wheels down for miles. Try suing a broker in Florida representing a shipper in New Jersey and doing anything other than making attorneys rich.
For that short of a distance I believe I would have gone to get the vehicle myself.
No splash lubrication when the vehicle ain't in gear, that's the issue.
@@kalashnikov1343 It was an automatic transmission, not really splash lubricated.
Not a car, but had a friend that bought a new modular home. I got a call after the shipping (& dealership) company dragged a half through a ditch, & subsequently the long end over the crown of the road ripping floor joist out of their hangers. Was told the 2nd half was going to be delayed a few days because of a truck break down. He called me with the start of the issues, so I did some checking ... The president of the company that manufactured the home told me no, the shipper didn't have a breakdown (the dealership had their own people), they had hit a bridge with the other half & were trying to repair it before the owner found out... The dealership was very surprised I had found out about their lies...
Definitely do some background checks & reviews before you entrust ANYTHING to a shipper...! Thanx !
I was thinking about shipping my car to you, still am, but the thing that stops me is the shipping part. I almost have half a mind to drive the two days it would take, and fly back home, leaving it with you for as long as you need it, and flying back to drive it home.
Would be a lot cheaper to drive and fly anyway, pretty easy to buy a plane ticket for 200 or 300 dollars, if you're lucky even 50 or 100 bucks. The problem is if your vehicles road worthy enough to drive that far then is there really any real reason to have the Wizard work on it lol.
From an economical point of view, you might be better off. Auto transport companies charge a lot of money, however there are some good transport companies. Airplane tickets may prove to be less expensive than the cost of transport the vehicle.
@@dedalliance1 it has an oil leak on what I suspect is the Front Main Seal. It's a transvers mounted FWD layout, and replacement of the seal is an engine out job. The car is totally road worthy, it's my daily in fact, but at 19 years old, I want someone to do a good once over on the whole thing. It's only got 88K on it, and is in great condition otherwise.
@@talis84 I suppose that would be a good specific reason then. Everyone's life is different but I'd probably drive it honestly could even make a road trip vacation out of the deal and rent a car to drive back home or drive around for another couple days while the work is being done and then circle back. Honestly by the time you pay a reliable carrier probably 1,500 each way that's going to double your repair bill, may as well skip the hassle and find a good local shop and pay them double to do a good job lol. Just like the owner of this truck, you keep a car for 19 years with only 88k miles on it in good condition no sense in risking that for a shipping company.
After shipping it’s probably cheaper to find a different truck. It’s a thing not a family member 🤷♂️🤭🤣
I had that happen when I shipped a car from LA to Texas with a RECOMMENDED shipper. I paid up front, then the driver wanted more money when he got to Texas. I called the shipper, they claimed they would credit my account, they never did.....
My 2005 Ram 3500 had the same issues with the blend doors/temperature changes. Changing the control unit out with one from the salvage yard solved all of them! I think the electronics inside the controller die so it doesn't tell the HVAC system what to do.
Attitudes like that why real truck drivers despise Hotshot drivers
There are 2 shippers I have used with no problems. They both sub-contract the shipping to individuals. I kept the business cards of those individuals. Only once did they come back to me for more money to ship because the location was a remote place in PA. They were having difficulty finding a person to do the pickup.
Mrs Wizard, there may have been another storage compartment under the middle front seat.
Only thing that sucks about the 3rd gen dodge ram 1500 2500 3500 ect all the frames rot out from the inside passanger side between both doors they rot out on the inside of the frame
That was funny the way he couldn't park it and then was standing at the door but didn't know I love the jingle that you and Tyler made that is so funny
Still hard to believe there isn’t a reputable shop here in Virginia (I live in Northern VA).
Funny video. As a retired driver, 10 of those years spent in the automotive industry. Delivering cars to individuals, dealers, shows as well as running parts and prototypes. Many of those issues also happen the other way around. Arrive on time, they are not ready. Told there will be plenty of room and its easy to get to, then I am driving down a gravel road where my antennas are tapping the power lines and my trailer is clearing out trees. And the good old "paid on delivery", then told we were already paid. Then when finally proved we had not been paid, they go through everything they can to get the cost reduced or even wanting it for free. Digital camera's and nowadays it would be smart phones save a lot of hassles. There were times when I was late, accidents holding you up, mechanical failures, sometimes shit happens. We had the center driveshaft support bearing break off of a brand new, less than a thousand miles, International. Causing the truck to go down for weeks while fighting with them about it being a defect vs operator error. (We won in the end) So we had to transfer the load to another company. Putting the load behind almost 3 days. Nothing can be done about things like that. Communication was key, letting the customer know where I was and what was going in was a big help and reduced issues. So it goes both ways, honest trucking companies are about as easy to find as honest mechanics. Finding an honest car dealer, heh, well, might as well look for an honest lawyer or politician while you are looking.
