I bought a 2019 Ram 1500 crewcab 4x4 Laramie. I got it in March 2019 for $45,000 and its list price was $57,150. I have owned every truck out there, and bar none, it is the best truck I have ever owned. It drives like a Mercedes, and it is super safe and the best mileage I have ever had for a 6 or 8 cylinder truck. My 1987 Nissan Hard Body with a 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual got the same

Although it was babied, it had all sorts of issues: Electrical glitches, random infotainment reboots, rear defrost fail, sliding rear window fail, seized front brake caliper, seized rear parking brake cable, floppy under engine drip shield and rusty fasteners, disappointing gas mileage, and on/off not-so-smooth boost. The RAM dealer gave me a generous trade in price plus a $1,000 conquest rebate for switching brands on top of $8,500 other rebates, discounts, and accessories. As for the engine, very simple, tons of room under the hood, the right amount of power I need for my job, etc and a pretty solid reliability record. Just shy of 4 years and 140K miles without a hitch, it’s been a great truck and has paid for itself many times over for what I do. And surprisingly it pulls very well for lighter loads like small tractors, hay bales or the side by side.

To avoid ever having the Hemi lifter tick, use a good quality 5w30 or 0w40 fully synthetic engine oil like Mobil 1 FS or Valvoline. If you can afford it and have the budget for it, I would use Redline 5w30 as its additive package is perfect for the Hemi engine.
Also do short oil change intervals like 3000 - 4000 miles. Nothing more.
Change the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles. This is what I've learned over the years with two Ram trucks and 3 times having the dreaded tick.

@@bjornironsides6474 Agreed, but not in this case. When I bought my truck, brand new, that is exactly what I did. I followed the manual to the letter and still got the Hemi lifter tick. I then learned that even the main dealer over here does not use 5w20 like my manual suggested, because it would too thin for my climate. But they're happy to sell it to me. If I take my truck to them and pay them for the oil changes, they will use 5w30.
Also the OCI were too long using such thin oil and so it was slowly killing my engine.
I experienced the dreaded lifter tick 3 times in two different trucks before I found a strategy that works a 100%.

My 2016 Big Horn that I bought used last year was a bargain. It was certified pre owned and I paid thousands less than what it's worth, I have a bumper to bumper warranty for the life of the loan. The only problem I had was the waterpump. I noticed a puddle underneath it when I took the trash out and figured out what the problem was. I drove it down the street to my mechanic and 115 bucks instead of 750 and it was good to go!.

Omg! I have one of these as a loaner and I hate this e torque setup! It’s so hard to be smooth at start stops situations. Between the engine shutting off and the engaging of the electric motor at the same time as the engine comes to life, you’re always getting mild whiplash. When you’re stopped and want to creep forward it lunges and then you over compensate with the brakes to avoid a collision… the rest of the time it’s fine but as someone who values making their passengers comfortable it’s a nightmare.
Side note: most people have no clue how to be smooth drivers so I understand how this setup didn’t bother anyone responsible for the design.

It's similar to putting an electric power ratchet on a bolt or getting it to start spinning first and then putting it on the bolt. Many times it will undo a bolt that it cannot do when it hasn't already begun spinning. So the torque does seem to be slightly different once it's already spinning...

How do you get previous owner problems in a 2 year of vehicle? What were they doing for that first year? NHRA meets or something?

@@RatelHBadger it was minor stuff. Something with the right tire and then a small dent in the glovebox. The tire problem is fixed, glovebox still has a small dent.

What is etorque? Sounds like a gimmick to rob you. Youre getting 12 mpg with it. My old endless money 2001 dodge ram got the same fuel economy and there was no gimmicky system and it was still an endless money pit

No idling in our 2011 1500 Ram 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi, and it developed the dreaded Hemi tick. Very little hauling or towing, mainly Highway miles. Had to replace the camshaft and lifters at 175,000 miles…$6k in repairs. Had to replace the tranny at 125k miles…$5k there. Plus, the rocker panels and rear wheel wells are rusting. It’s comfortable, but very disappointed in it.

Did WD40 help with the noise?

You can turn off/turn down regenerative breaking in a Tesla. I also get 18-19 combined in my v8 hemi. A huge deal is how you drive it

I wonder how long that Ram truck will last without major repairs. I would love to know.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 with 233k miles. I’ve been thru 3-4 sets of rotars/brake pads, a plastic part attached to the radiator cracked, and 6 sets of tires. It was our main vehicle until last year and now pulls a trailer and 1,300 lbs lawn mower every day. For years I lived down a 10 mile dirt road in the mountains and never a issue. Maybe I’m just lucky but it’s great for me.

Well, they added yet another expensive to repair system (etorque). I’m not a fan of the shifter or the push-button 4x4 selector in my 2017, and now there’s another thing that can break. I also wish it had traditional power steering. Even so, it’s been good to me so far. Just not looking forward to those things breaking.

They did with the previous gen, but discontinued the single cab last year.

Maybe a French connection in ownership is a good thing. If it weren’t for Renault controlling AMC in the 80s, we wouldn’t have had the XJ Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Jeep inline 6.
