- On todays episode I am restoring a MK1 golf steering rack. For the first time I tried zinc plating parts at a local galvanizing workshop and I'm thinking about buying a kit for myself.

although a brand new Meyle rack is only £70 and the track rod ends £20 here in the UK 🇬🇧 so i just bought those and fitted them to mine 🤣

My steering rack was very bad hahaha it wouldn't turn to the left it the steering wheel would just continue turning and the wheels stayed in their position. Your restoration on the steering rack turned out amazing.
Im going through the same thing now,it doesnt turn to the left especially if the car is not moving. Did you restore yours or replace it completely?
Yes, I had to replace it completely. It was quite easy to replace.@@tebzamoyaga6823
just buy a screw drill like m10 or smthng and cut a bolt to 3 mill, screw in and use the oem rack

Hi mate, really hoping you can help as I'm doing this exact process at the moment.
That bearing that you put back in at @8:55....how did you get it out in the first place? Mine is fully pressed in, and I cant take the rack out of the pipe to clean and grease without taking this bearing out. Thanks!
I've a mk2 Scirocco it only had adjustment on one end of the rack.
Is is just a case of fitting a second adjustable tie rod and ball joint to make both sides adjustable?
Are the rods the same lengths and thread etc both sides?
Is the golf ready?
Salutare, merita dpvd al consturilor si timpului sa reconditionez o caseta de directie, avand in vedere ca am gasit una noua in jurul sumei de 300 de lei?
Sigur ca nu merita :) dar daca nu facem nu invățăm. Nu merită tot proiectul daca ne uităm rațional la costuri/timp. Este o pasiune care necesită experiență ca să avansez înainte :D baftă !

Foarte greu avanseaza tinichigiul, are vreo 5 proiecte in paralel ... Toate masini retro... O sa incerc sa-l mai conving sa avanseze... Sper ca in vara ajunge inapoi la mine sa ma apuc de pregatit pentru vopsit.
@@upcyclethepastutp9901 Proasta veste... eu am crezut ca o sa fie gata deja vopsita si de asta ajunge asa de greu. Speram ca o sa ajunga cat mai curand, ne e dor de ea!! Mult succes si abia astept sa incepi asamblarea pieselor! Iti urez mult spor! Respect ❤️
@@andreicoman4345 pfuai si eu asa am crezut, ca deja era in stagiul de reasamblare... Lucram cu ce avem, n-am ce sa fac. Incet dar sigur o sa fie gata. Ideea este ca lucrez si la hambar... Care necesita un efort mare.
