Finally a restoration videos when someone is not working inside a 300.000 eur garage but in almost same conditions as most of us. This will be really helpful. Keep it up!!
I just put one of these engines in my skid steer still working on it but it runs great thanks for your video mine was missing parts and now I know what i need.
I know the frustration of bolts breakingI had four sump bolts brake when i removed my oil pan because the drain vale bolt was stripped and the previous owner sealed the threads with silcone seam sealer to stop the leaking. We also have the same rules regarding engines and the paper work. I am eagerly waiting to see the reassemble of this beauty. Oh yes I love the Mark 2 GTI i saw it in your first video and i saw it in this one.
Great progress man! Seems like the grunt of the hard work is ahead of you , good luck restoring that engine. I'm glad that you are consulting with professional shops as well. I think this car will be awesome when its done :) . Great content. I'm not a car guy but I'm learning a bunch . Keep'em comin'
Hey :) well don't really know what to tell you. I knew that i will have to re sleeve because i had to change the pistons. The guys at the workshop told me that I have a ware of 0.35 in the cylinders and said that i need +0.50 mm new pistons. I found new oldstock Nüral pistons from a local vw guy that were + 1.00 mm and 150 $ for all 4. The workshop gave me an offer of 100$/ piston (the 0.50 ones)... basically what i'm trying to say is that you should go to a good workshop and ask them what's the condition of the engine block and after that check for the best price solution that fits your budget and needs :)
Great job on the video I just bought a vw bus with the same motor and im looking to rebuild it as well thank you so much you got a sub from me for sure
Salut, ti-ai dat si tu de lucru! As avea nevoie de cateva informatii, am acelasi motor, montat pe un T2 din '76, si daca ai putea sa ma sfatuiesti cu cateva chestii tehnice ti-as fi recunoascator. Cum pot lua legatura cu tine? Multumesc!
In Poland we had similar law about engine codes in documents I think until approx half of 2000s. But today even if u still have engine code in your paperwork no one cares, that doesnt matter even on technical inspections - you can change engine if you want, no one is reading and inspecting it anymore. Before that Ive heard that changing an engine was really painful experience (especially in communist times) - you even need to have documents where you have bought "new" used engine... Good luck with build!
Hey man :), I have no other option for washing big parts like this. Only in front of the barn. Still better than letting the dirt and chemicals into the public sewage. I did this couple of times and my grass grew back after two weeks :). Thank you for the input !

@@upcyclethepastutp9901 thank you, do you remember what size bolts your used to put the motor on the stand?
Sick bro, I'm getting ready to just pull my head first and see where that goes, let me know if you document it at all!
Wild about that engine documentation 😁 such a hastle for a simple engine swap

I think getting oversized pistons and reboring it would be a better option than resleeving it. As long as it isn't bored to the max already.
Excellent job 👍
