What an interesting video! Many, many years ago, my grandmother took the red roses from my wedding cascade, hung them upside down to dry. They turned out beautifully. The gorgeous White orchid that was in the center of the roses was detachable so I could wear it on my 'going away' beautiful satin and wool dress, in dark navy blue. The orchid was the most gorgeous ever. Unfortunately, when I returned a week later, trying to help it last longer, I refrigerated it. It was earmarked for drying. Didn't work. Sighing. In my minds eye I can still see it and thankfully, I have photos of the cascade as well as the orchid pinned on my dress. And it has just now struck me as to why I dearly love white orchid blooms...actually, white in all flowers. We were married on Christmas day. After a few days, the petals turned a wettish, yellowish brown in the fridge. Am so glad this gel is on the market so folk can dry the blooms. Again, dear Nina, great video. This sweet vid has brought back many sweet memories and tears rolling off my chin. Thank you sweet girl for this video. Actually, it has meant more to me than you might know. Not to worry, practice makes perfect.xxx❤

🦒🤸🤸!!! Yay, it turned out fine. That reminded me of the days I did the same, not with orchids which I was not into at the time, but with wild flowers. I used beach sand which is a more primitive way but it worked as well. I made arrangements of all sorts inside box frames like you mentioned and my house has many of those, some are flat, others are tridimensional. Although they were made over 15 years ago the colours did not fase, even the reds are still flashy. I made so many at the time, small ones and large ones, square or rectangular up to 75 cm with a glass top, like a case. I gave them away for Christmas, for birthdays to everyone and they turned out so nice that I even sold to friends of friends and to a local shop...those were funny days and you brought that back to me. Yes, there is plenty you can do with them but you got it right, the fresh blooms are the best to get better results. I am sure you will have lots of fun doing it. Working on such an art job is wonderful for the mind, I can tell you for sure👌 Happy day dear amiga, hope not too bad last night. Hi Norman 🤗💐 not bad for a first attempt. By next year, I think I will have the timing right and not over dry the bloom. It was very brittle after 5 days... next I may need to look into some resin spray ... it is possible that a little resin spray or something similar will help to maintain the structure together while handling. When you try this out... let me know what your 'findings' are. 😃 Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and I wish you a wonderful Saturday 🌸
Nina, I have a set of bed sheets, brown wit lovely flowers on them. The designer was Princess Grace Kelly. Why couldn't you do a bit of research and find someone who could assist you in getting something like that going, with even your signature on a corner of each piece? I've been wanting to do this ever since I saw GA's video, too, because I've had this idea for a DIY outdoor table for years, but I didn't know how to preserve blooms for that!! Unfortunately I can't find silica anywhere in Greece, but I might order some, as soon as this lockdown is over, now that I know it can actually work. Have a wonderful day!! 😊
Hi 🤗💐I do not have access to silica here in Spain either, so I managed to source some from Amazon. More practice is required to get it right. Orchid blooms are nothing like I have worked with before, but it is a nice thing to have in mind for the future ☺️ I am glad that you heard me recognize GA, and that I mentioned her channel and where I got the inspiration from. I was not sure if I made that obvious enough. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video. Have a wonderful day 🌸
Lovely! I dry my blooms as well. I believe that I have a video somewhere on my channel showing my very first one. I made a shadow box with my giant Cattleya and started another one with my smaller blooms.
HI 🤗💐 I will have to go and look for your video. I have to order shadow boxes from Amazon, I cannot find any in our shops here. I hope that my next attempts will come out trumps. Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch. Have a wonderful Saturday 🌸
Hi Danielle 🥰💐 I used to have loads of hang dried roses, ... mine always went a brown off color after a few years and then I tossed them, which I want to try and avoid with orchid blooms. I hope that I can get the timing right so as to maintain the shape and color to some degree. I would like to have a few to gift 😬 Thank you so very much for watching, Danielle.... as always, you know the drill 🙌🏼🥰❤️
@@NinjaOrchids I always found the key to drying roses was to hang them when they were still buds which means you don’t get to enjoy the bouquet very much before you start hanging it. also the darker the color of the rose the more it kept its color. Paler colors turn brown after a few years. I had my bouquet from my sisters wedding for five years before I decided I was tired of knocking into it and bits of it falling on the floor so I threw it out but it was still beautifully preserved because they were darker roses.
Hi Anne 🤗💐 yes 😅 I forgot to tuck it in but, yes... from Rainforest Café at Animal Kingdom 17 years ago 😅 I have 2 ... they are getting to the point that I need to actually preserve them as well 🤣 Thank you so much for taking the time to watch! I wish you a wonderful Saturday 🌸
😱 😱 😱 I could never chop off a healthy bloom. I'm not sure I could ever really pollinate/make crosses because I'd lose the bloom. I think your end products came out well. And the next time you have a butterfingers moment (we all do) and break one off by accident, you can just dry it. I only tried the silica preserving once, with my sister's wedding bouquet. It didn't work out so well, the ferns turned brown and it took forever for the roses in the center to dry fully. I suppose if I could have dried each part individually and put it back together, that might have been better.
Hi Michael 🥰💐I felt that way a long time ago as well, also with pollinating, but after a while I have no problem doing it. I would like to get it right for the digbyana and Golf Green Hair Pig though. Every orchid I snipped blooms off, I had a long time to enjoy them... that makes it easier 😃 I see that the different textures need different time frames. I am not a fan of pressing blooms, as it plan is to maintain the unique shapes. We shall see. I thought that maybe in the summer I can do this with a Black Eagle bloom(s) and send them to you. I appreciate you watching... thank you so very much! Have a wonderful Saturday 🌸
Cool! I've never tried drying flowers Laura from Garden Answer has a video I believe I'm not sure how much experience drying her flower but maybe he has some advice. Good luck have fun.
Hi Sandie 🤗💐 yes, I was hoping that when I mentioned her and her video as the inspiration behind trying it with orchids, that I was giving her the credit... I don't want to appear 'copy cat' like without giving credit where credit is due. I also linked the video in my description. I left a comment on her video, asking if she thought it would work with orchid blooms, but, then thought... try it for yourself, silly woman 😅I was surprised at how expensive silica is, but being able to use it over and over again, makes it a worthwhile investment. Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch 🌸
Hi Michelle 🤗💐 isn't it fabulous though?? Imagine getting it right and being able to do all sorts of lovely things with our blooms... for others, for ourselves 😃 I love it! Thank you so very much for watching. Have a wonderful Sunday 🌸
NFW!! I’ve been thinking about drying my blooms today. You’re freaking me out, Nina!! I did some searching and decided that I’m going to take a bloom from each orchid and try flattening them. If it turns out, I have some picture frames where the picture goes between two panes of glass. I want to put them in there. Not sure if they’ll turn out well flat, though. It would be cool to make a bouquet of all your blooms and keep adding to it. I don’t know how this works, though. Maybe there’s some kind of spray to preserve them after they’re dried? Very cool and so weird that you posted this video on the day I searched for it. She’s a witch! Buuuurn her! (Month Python) 😂
Paige 🤣🤣😂😅🤗💐 that is scary now! 😂😂 I don't want to press my orchid blooms, because they will loose a lot of the beautiful intricate structure that they have. I want to be able to preserve their color as best as possible, without bruising and pressing them introduces bruise marks etc. I am wondering about a spray as well.... something that has a resin in it? Or some kind of lacquer in a spray can? Unless I go into town, to a real DIY store, I won't know if we have such a product locally or if I have to go further and source from Amazon. Im off 🧙🏻♀️😅🧙🏻♀️🤣 Let me know what you might consider would work as a preservative after drying... I would be interested in your thoughts! Thank you for putting another smile on my face and a chuckle in my heart! Have a wonderful Sunday 🌸
I found this on amazon and the reviews say it works well. Dried Flower Preserving Spray www.amazon.com/dp/B00WAAC8JE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_XkpZFbZDA9RAK. I also found some flower drying kits. Now I would rather dry mine whole like you did, hot glue some kind of stem on them and add flowers as they bloom to make a big, gradual bouquet (emphasis on “gradual” because it’s going to take me a looooong time to get to “big” bouquet status 😂). Some reviews said that the spray makes the colors come out better. This is exciting stuff, Nina! I’m so glad you shared it 😀
woohoo!!! 🙌🏼 you are glad that I shared it?? Look at what you just threw into my life... preserving spray that also makes the colors come out better?? We! Are! On! A! Roll!! I have to see if I can find this in the spanish amazon store or something similar!! Thank YOU, Paige! Me likey where this is going! 🙌🏼❤️
Very interesting! Is that silica gel you can get in stores or is it a special brand? Good idea to preserve them and make a sort of diorama of them 😁 Very beautiful and i always stick around till the end of your videos 😁
HI Maykel 🤗💐 it is usually found in arts & crafts stores if you have that kind of a shop in your town. We don't, so I got mine from amazon. Any brand will do, as long as it includes 'drying flowers' on the packaging. More practice required on my part 🤪 But the plan is to get it right and then showcase the blooms and give them away. I watch to the end of all your videos as well, Maykel, and I really appreciate that you watch mine to the end, thank you so much!! Have a wonderful Saturday 🌸
HI Bheda 🤩💐 welcome!! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I really appreciate it! Also, thank you for watching the video and your kind feedback 🤗 If these were to be displayed in an arrangement that is exposed to the air, then, yes, it would be advisable to spray them with some kind of protective seal. I have not been successful with hairspray as a form of bloom preservation. I tried it on roses, a lot, and it didn't work for me. But I have used a dried flower preserving lacquer and that worked well. The intention behind me trying to do this with orchid blooms is to arrange them in a shadow box and hand those on my walls. Unfortunately, I cannot find shadow boxes in my country, so... I show how it's done, but not the final product. If hairspray has worked for you in the past, could you tell me the brand that you used? Just to get an idea as to what went wrong with my attempts back in the day. Thank you so much! And, once again, welcome! I hope that you are having a lovely day 🥰🌸
Hi 🤗💐 the brand is called XIAOKOA, it is a lavalier, with a wireless receiver that connects to the camera and the other receiver is on with the mic. So... I am not attached to the camera. I found it on Amazon. The mic in my description is a mic that I use for Vlogging when I am out and about with the gimbal, that plugs straight into the camera. The XIAOKOA mic does not come with a dead cat to protect from the wind. If you have any doubts about this mic, please let me know. I hope the sound is of good quality! Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it 🌸

I had my bouquet from my sisters wedding for five years before I decided I was tired of knocking into it and bits of it falling on the floor so I threw it out but it was still beautifully preserved because they were darker roses.
Oh what a fun project! Say, is that a cute 🦒 giraffe shirt I spy under your black top? It deserves to roam free!

Never heard of this before
Hi Michelle 🤗💐 isn't it fabulous though??
I want to give a try
🫶🏼 I hope you do and you enjoy making something pretty with the results of dried blooms 🫶🏼
I have lots of orchid. So I really want to dry it and preserve it in a bottle
Hello. I loved this video. Just one question; won’t it be necessary to spray it with hair spray or some other product to keep the moisture out?
I hope that you are having a lovely day 🥰🌸
What myc do you use for your videos?
Hi 🤗💐 the brand is called XIAOKOA, it is a lavalier, with a wireless receiver that connects to the camera and the other receiver is on with the mic. So... I am not attached to the camera. I found it on Amazon. The mic in my description is a mic that I use for Vlogging when I am out and about with the gimbal, that plugs straight into the camera. The XIAOKOA mic does not come with a dead cat to protect from the wind. If you have any doubts about this mic, please let me know. I hope the sound is of good quality! Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it 🌸
From where can I buy Silica?
HI Nissy 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank you so much for being here, for watching and your comments. I am going to attach a link here from the brand that I use. I am not affiliated, but, it may bring up many other suggestions that you can peruse as to which one you would like to consider trying.
