I worked at Tesla starting in July of 2017 as an Operations Analyst out of the Bethlehem, PA distribution center facility and left as a Program Manager based out of Austin, TX as of September 2021. I spent most of my time in the distribution and supply chain organizations.
Before Tesla, I was a Director of Business Intelligence and Pricing at the largest Pet Food & Supply distributor in the US, Phillips Pet Food & Supplies based out of Easton, PA. My wife and I also owned a small business in Bethlehem, PA between 2016 and 2019.
My thoughts are my own and are not representative of everyone who currently works, or has worked at Tesla.

This was great! I admit that before watching I thought this would be a "sour grapes" video. Just the opposite. This felt like a clear-eyed, objective, fair assessment of the Tesla work experience. It confirms everything I had hoped would be true about this company: the best, the brightest, problem solving, addressing the world's toughest challenges, driving efficiencies, making things better. This was affirming to see. Thank you for sharing.

It’s great to get this insider information, I love the good the bad and the ugly, a lot more good at Tesla than the other two negatives. Even though it is intense, that is a good thing.

Really excellent well thought out video. Especially for your first one! Yes you definitely have a future as a TH-camr. Somewhere between Rob Maurer of Tesla Daily (too dry), and Steven Mark Ryan of Solving the Money Problem (too emotional). Your intellect shines through in a humble way ("feel stupid every day"). We need more content like this. I'm a long time Tesla owner and shareholder, and looking forward to more of your videos!

Thanks for the video. I can relate to "feeling dumb every day". I worked for 3 great years for a Fortune 50 tech company and when I went there, I realized how amazingly talented and smart the people were. I felt inferior for the first time in my life, until my boss said we only hire the best and you're one of them! When I was being interviewed, many of the questions had to do with dealing with ambiguity. Much like you describe, my time there was fast paced, with continuous change and process improvement. Hope your new direction in life gives you great fulfillment!

Great video! It is enlightening to get a perspective from an employee from the inside. It reinforces the conviction I have in the company and have had for quite some time. I know I invested in Tesla, years ago, with both eyes and ears engaged and that my read was correct. I’m astonished that this is only the second video I’ve seen of this type from a former employee. It makes me wish I were 40 years younger. I spent 43 years with a major aerospace company and had the unusual unofficial job of being a fixer. If something was broken or hopelessly behind schedule, many times I would find myself packing my bags and heading into the hotspot. It was tough (especially on my young family), but I loved all the ground I covered and the skills I acquired over the years. I think Tesla would have been a better fit for me. Legacy companies aren’t organized that way and I often met great resistance and was initially perceived as an outsider. Too many times, the fiefdom was protected at the expense of the company. It sounds like Tesla has gotten it right (warts and all).

Thanks so much for sharing your story! Yes, Tesla is a very special place were folks are expected to challenge the status quo. Not a fit for everyone but those that are willing to set their ego aside will accomplish amazing things. Just be ready to melt your brain!

Thank you so much for sharing. When curious people find barriers (real or imagined) placed between us and actual information - we make it up. One of Humanities' Prime Directives - "Find out what we don't know - ALL information will have a beginning, middle and end. If not discoverable, make it up and move on". Would have loved to have gotten a chance to work with you at Allentown. I'm still targeting a chance to join the team, and have passed up a few chances just because of salary concerns. It’s in their own collective self- interest and that of the company to move forward. One suggestion for a future video is that you give specific examples of what you did without disclosing confidential information. In other words, define what is an outbound processes is and how it works. Even use the generic term widget for the explanation. Entiendes?

This is why Tesla as moved and grown so fast. Very few companies, if indeed any other company has this work ethos. I’ve, in my line of business seen situations within companies where no one would make any decisions without being passed up through the chain of command. Hence either they weren’t made or it took forever to resolve. ---“It’s more than my jobs worth”-- What was as bad, nothing was changed that messed with the status quo, many times I was told “ thats how we’ve always done things” Tesla have introduced a breath of fresh air into the workplace and it’s really shook up a lot of dinosaurs.

Just binge watched all your videos. Great to hear about Tesla from an insiders viewpoint. As a Tesla investor in the UK I love to hear about what it is really like working for the most disruptive company on the planet. So thanks for your insight, and I look forward to your next video.

Thanks for watching! Early on I didn’t really have days off, but later on I was able to reclaim my weekends 😂. I ended my time working anywhere between 40-60 hours per week depending on what was going on.

Great video! I love what you've said about this company.
My question is: how are pay and scheduling and time off done? Salary, hourly pay, bonuses for achieving measurable improvements, is there a set schedule like 5 days a week from 7am until the job is done, etc.? I'm not looking for pay amounts, but wondering what kind of innovation goes into those aspects of the business.

    • @farzyness
      @farzyness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

We were encourage to give constant feedback to our teams, and then every 6 months we would sit down and review all that feedback and see how we would be progressing towards that year’s goal. Every 12 month there would a schedule to hand out raises/promotions/coaching/exiting. It’s somewhat traditional with the added emphasis around constant and continuous feedback.

What an insight, phenomenal video, already a follower. I was part of a small team who launched the Internet for the biggest UK telecom from 1996 onwards, what you talk about tesla resonates with clever folk all around us, I guess even feeling dumb at times I was up there, teaching others and launching IP products like there was no tomorrow.
So dost (friend) well done on making a crash landing into the TH-cam super league. There are some other good youtubers here but they don't show their faces and become repetitive.

Farzad: Thanks for your contribution to shaping Tesla into the success story it is! I saw your comment that you left T because...financial independence achieved! You EARNED that, and you contributed to my gain, too. I was blessed to "see" where things COULD go in May 2019...A few months before the two-year, 3000% stock run-up.👍

Thanks for your insight! Wow.... I would love to see something like this from maybe a former GM employee or another car company like that... I am betting that the narrative might be a little different. Innovating at the pace that Tesla does is definitely difficult and a lot of times super frustrating and stressful. It's a good thing that they can find people like you, Farzad. Any machine is only as strong as it's weakest part... Without a whole staff of people like you, Tesla would likely have gone under years ago. Thanks for helping to push the automotive industry. You're appreciated! My Model 3 is slated for delivery the 1st of the year by the way, and when I drive it, I will be able to really think about all the work that went into making it a reality.

I remember my father (he was a genius) working at GM Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac assembly plant, they worked you like a slave, at the time, I was 14, I told him to quit and he did, and never looked back. He had a great life.
