    2 tips for you:
    1.) try using the Quest3 without Gasket -> more FOV, less stress for eyes, air in the face, no sweat... (you will need a counterweight, for example a small powerbank you can velcro on the back, so the weigth is shifted away from your nose) -> you also can see your keyboard more easily
    2.) try IMMERSED: its the gold-standard for working in VR in the moment..
    AND: you can connect the Quest3 with a usb-cable to use immersed
    # so you will benefit in several ways: more possibilities with the monitorscreens than with the other apps you tested
    # less/nearly no latency compared to WIFI and for sure compared to a not so good wifi
    # longer battery life (when using the right cable)
    # you can place portals on your desk in your prefered size -> so you can see your keyboard, mouse, your real hands, your cocktail or beer..
    with all that done, i have managed to work 9hour in VR with the Quest3

    Try Immersed, multi monitor and allows you to create mr peek through windows for things like keyboard mouse drink etc

      @@pattle I use Immersed for coding because you can cut a window out to see your hands and keyboard. You can also have up to 5 virtual screens at one time. I highly recommend this!

      Another vote for immersed. It's a treat with my work and personal laptops. I work mostly with passthrough enabled so I can see my keyboard and the room. On days I work in the headset I find I often keep it on when making a cup of coffee, or, at the end of the day when work is done and I'm cooking or doing the dishes I keep it on with a show or TH-cam playing.

    absolutely unreal that this tech allows you to be in any environment, you could be coding on top of a mountain, your office could be on the beach of a tropical island, you could be sitting on the moon, and instead someone said "what if i simulated a mid range IKEA desk against a textured wall with a view of some nondescript city off to the side"

    • @pattle
      @pattle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Haha, I guess they’re playing it safe. When I was at uni, there was this cool library which was always dimly lit, each desk had these little lamps. I always found it easy working there so i’d love to recreate that environment

    The flaw is trying to make VR shoehorned around the idea of a 2D skeuomorphistic desktop coding workflow instead of us making a coding paradigm that works in VR.

    • @pattle

      I think this will change over time. VR is still a relatively new tech

    I saw a video that showed someone defining the passthrough areas, and he was able to choose his keyboard and mouse for the passthrough area and the rest of his view was in VR. I must find that again and will let you know.

    • @pattle
      @pattle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that must have been Meta Workrooms. It lets you draw a portion of your desk that you want to enable passthrough on

      @@pattle immersed does that as well..
      you can define up to 5 Portals in size and orientation you like
      for me for exmaple: keyboard + mouse = one portal
      and left beside me: another portal so i can see my cat when she is lying beside me

    I feel like work isn't the killer use case for this. The clip of American football looks incredible. Also worth remembering everything is currently filmed with flat screen in mind. Having the pov of the ref could be a game changer for live sports

    • @pattle
      @pattle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I could see in the near future, Apple or Meta partnering with the NFL so you could buy a virtual ticket to a game and watch it from the stands or from the sideline in VR. Yeah that would be a game changer and I'd expect other sports to follow suit.

    The background in PC-VR for Quest will not change any time soon, it had USER homes there where folk cold invite friends and show rewards and also upload custom models, it was cool and rather popular, but Meta is Facebook and they do not care about the user that are the product they sell, so they removed it to save server space or something, but it is gone and if it is replaced with something else and the old users can not get back their old stuff and rewarded they worked hard on, then there will be a bit of bad publication when they do to many angry at the same time.

    First of all, excellent content. You didn't speed through it. Delivery was perfectly paced and not rushed. I really appreciate that. Subscribed because I too am a coder and would like the VR desktop like you and really appreciate your smooth style. I wanted to comment that I saw a couple videos using Virtual Desktop passthrough by where they can draw a sort of colored bounding box around the area they would like to see, cockpit controls etc, and the video won't overlay across that region. This would make it possible to see the keyboard, mouse etc on your desktop. I'm getting ready to try this myself as soon as the Q3 recharges. Terrible battery life on this thing.

      @Kraeuterbutter 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that was with the Qeust2 HEadstrap.. the Qeust3 is not so likely to break..
      BUT: it has other issues... runs empty even when not used, does not charge the Qeust3 fast enough, so quest3 can run empty even when connected tot he strap...
      some problems..
      bobo VR: take care to take the new version that can charge at higher speeds for the Qeust3.. the old Version (combined with adapter) can be mounted on the Quest3, BUT: is to weak, the quest3 will run empty even when connected to the BoboVR2

    Wow, you must have the perfect unit from Quest 3, when i tried mine with the Mixed Reality colour passthrough it was so grainy, i couldn´t read my phone at all. I returned mine.

    • @pattle
      @pattle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also experienced the same thing. I'd read reviews beforehand from people saying that they could still use their phone when in passthrough mode but for me it was also too grainy, so I was a little disappointed with this. I think having a well lit room with lots of natural light definitely helps though..

      @@pattle Yes, i posted about this issue on quest reddit a couple months ago and i got severely backlash and downvoted, like every single comment there was saying i was wrong about it, now i visited the quest reddit recently and im seying more people that changed their opinion about Quest 3.
      On Quest reddit they act like kids defending their brand new overpriced Quest 3, which in my opinion is not a huge upgrade from Quest 2 in which is a better value for what you get for the price you paid.
      I tried both and Quest 3 is like Quest 2.5 with no real new content and just to use the same Quest 2 apps with a slight resolution improvement.
      However, Quest 3 have a few positive points, at least it is useful to you.
      I will continue to wait for a better value headset.

    Seems like the only benefit is changing your office environment and cancelling some distractions. Thought there might be some benefit in having a lot more screen space but the screen size was more or less the same as real life. Thoughts?

    • @pattle
      @pattle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      only for the apps he showed..
      with immersed you can have 5 screens, in any size (and resolution) you want
      in any position, curved or not.. close or far away..
      so for example: you can have a screen 50cm in front of your eyes, like a 32" monitor
      or 10 meters in diagonal and 8meters away...
      you can also stand up, change the room, and take your monitor-setup with you
      or: as i do - work on your balcony

    The Q3 battery isn't going to last more than a couple of hours. A good tethered charging cable is a must for any serious time working in VR. A few external batteries (preferably with a more comfortable third-party head strap) is another solution, though this has its own pros and cons. The Q3 pass-through is currently not too great. What is recorded appears much better than what the user sees. Virtual Desktop is generally better, but the quest version is limited to using Wi-Fi, which must be near-perfect. Quest Link can use cable or Wi-Fi. For programming, it may not be an issue.

    • @pattle
      @pattle  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also I’d recommend getting a right angle USB C cable that way you can zip tie it to the head strap and it doesn’t get in the way.
      Yes pass through does look a lot better in recording than what you actually see. I’m expecting it to be a lot better in the next iteration so you can send texts, play flappy bird etc

  • @Kraeuterbutter
    @Kraeuterbutter 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    the resolution of the Qeust3 - good enough for games - i still waiting for the new headsets 2025+ coming, with 4k x 4k resolution.. that would be gamechanger... that would be, when you cant say: "quality is still better on a monitor setup"
    on quest3 you can still see pixels, specially when dealing with text
    nevertheless: i prefer working with the Quest and 3 Monitors instead of my tiny 14" notebook-Display
    still: the 34" Monitor has better Quality... so most time i use that..
    the next Headset-Generation with more than 3000x3000pixel should fix that..
    reduce weight to half (200g instead of the 450g of the Quest3) and i think i will then mostly use the VR headset instead of monitor

    Good video, I'm guessing you could have made it like 20 or 30% shorter, but you'll know better when you'll have a look at the Audience Retention Graph. I liked it though, the only thing that I noticed at the start was, that you weren't looking at the camera, but it's not really that big of deal.
    How's the text clarity when using the Meta Quest 3? I'm currently stuck with a Chromebook, ~15 years old Linux machine and another relic running Windows XP. Thus I thought that perhaps, I could use the MQ3, I mostly just need a computer to write code and text. Oh and, of course, to watch TH-cam :P
    Also, please don't take my comment wrong, I mean no ill will. Keep up the good work!

    • @pattle
      @pattle  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow you're running Windows XP? I didn't think that was possible. Yeah honestly this video didn't quite turn out how I wanted, still learning on the job so to speak. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
      The text clarity is fine in my opinion. The MQ3 is a bit funny in that you do need to make sure you have it lined up exactly with the centre of your eyes, otherwise it can be a bit blurry.
