I worked for a company as a repair specialist for electric motors and I remember many parts of this machine that are used in other similar machines for the production of brake pads. It's nice to see that with a european machine the safety standards and risks of lethal injuries are on a european level now. Imagine them manufacturing the matches in a pakistani way...
What I always find mind boggling when seeing mass production like this is: if you think about it, the same amount of matches they make every second are being lit at the same time somewhere else (on average)
Despite the guy at the band saw standing in the worst spot imaginable if something goes wrong or the logs being tossed around with no one wearing anything more than sandals, that place must smell pretty damn good with all that fresh cut wood!
I imagine since each match stick is cut to the same size, then they're simply just pushed into a hole thats slightly smaller than they are. It's a square peg getting stuck in a round hole. At least, that's my theory. Wood is flexible enough for that to work

I use to test lifting equipment, and I had a one ton test wight roll onto my foot. It distorted the toecap of my safety boot but the impact of it bruised my leg halfaway up my calf.. If i`d been wearing sandals I`d have lost my foot.

You do realise that when matches were produced in the uk without ‘over regulation’ 1 in 5 workers died as a result. The rest suffered appalling health problems. Most of them young girls. You might be happy with those working conditions but I’m not. 100% abuse.

I would imagine the extra length of the chains is there to allow the mechanism to be easily backed off without the necessity removing the chain.
