I was at their Anaheim show last summer and it was amazing to witness the ladies perform "Rinne" live for the first time outside their native Japan! Miku-san's headbanging while her twintails were swinging like helicopter propellers was a bonus! 😅❤️🤘🏻🫶🏻🕊🎀🇯🇵⚡️
When someone says BM’s music sounds like this genre or that genre I’m not able to hear it that way. It’s BAND-MAID. A unique, “impossibly hard rocking maid band.” That’s it.
This is another chapter in Kanami's quest to write a faster bpm song. I believe she won't be truly happy until Akane's kit catches fire from the friction.
This is purely my opinion. This is band-maid. They just make their own music. There is nothing they can't do within the framework of rock music. I've been listening to music for over 50 years and believe they are the modern-day female version of the Beatles in rock. I don't like forcing music on people, but not listening to their music in this day and age is a loss in life. A band from another dimension.
I have a more contemporary view I personally think they are better than the Beatles in regards to musical output and ability with the caveat that the Beatles were more creative (not always in a good way) after all they were at the forefront of a whole new genre.
Nittpicc, "You have Band-Maid 😎,Clean Band-Maid 😇, and Dirty Band-Maid 😈" I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement 🙂. Great reaction to the best band on the planet.
"Dirty Maid!" 🤣 I love that. Also, if you get the chance, try to catch a live version of this. Miku's headbanging with her twintails is both adorable and awesome \m/
from JAPAN. BAND-MAID seems to have unlimited drawers. Moreover, they can take any tune and turn it into a BAND-MAID sound. Incredibly, there are no boring songs.
Band Maid was picking up rumours that someone thought they had become too mellow. Their answer can probably be summed up as: "Not really?" before letting Saiki end with "Shut Up". Oh - I so love Rinne!
I have never heard BAND-MAID members talk about it. It was a discussion in the fandom after "start over." We know that the Maids themselves don't care so much about genres but in general, they understand that harder music is what people expect from them. And we know that Kanami tends to write heavier stuff when she's depressed or not happy. Miku also commented on their Acoustic ONLINE OKYUJI that "We should do it again... Mmmm... But not too often, otherwise, we'll be bored like hell." They like a change of pace sometimes, but they love faster and more energetic music more, it's clear.
@@jonasw3945This is the one example out of all the rumors/myths/eager beavers literally making up stuff that I think could, possibly, happen to be true despite the lack of evidence.
Not "rumors" but rather negative feedback from elements of their Japanese fanbase. The notion that the "Shut up" is meant for their critics originates in speculation among their Japanese fans which was later picked up and circulated on English-speaking y t (such as here). Personally, I'm sure the "Shut up" is directed at the negative feedback, but it's speculation. "Rinne" can be seen as a guiding principle for bands. "Rinne" in Buddhism is the cycle of death and rebirth, piling up bad karma, and you escape that cycle by gaining insight and realization that leads to enlightenment. A band, like an individual, needs to self-realize and self-actualize out of the same old cycle, and if it doesn't it "sinks", if it does it "swims" in the sea of musical enlightenment-re the "It's sink or swim" verse in the "Rinne" lyrics. In the lyrics just before the "It's sink or swim" line is the phrase 解き放って ("break away" or "set free" from something), and this expression has been used by Buddhist writers to refer to liberation from that cycle.
@@otobokegaijin6218 Yes, wonderful explanation. Very few people in the West understand what is the idea of "reincarnation" in Buddhism. They think it's a happy thing, that you will come back and live again. While, I think, the mainstream understanding in Buddhism that it's a curse, and the goal is to escape this endless cycle of going back and forth. "It's a tragic reincarnation," says Miku in the lyrics. I still believe that the inspiration for these lyrics was the horror movie with the same name. Although my post on Reddit where I wanted to discuss it, was quickly removed by the admins. I was really shocked by this, actually, and I still wonder why it was so painful to the admins. They so vigorously denied that there is any connection between the movie and Miku's lyrics, I think there was something personal in it for them... The movie is about a girl who is haunted by ghosts (which seem to be real) and then a maniac (who seems to be a regular person, not a ghost or anything). Her life is not easy, that's for sure, but the message is that people get crazy when they indulge in their weaknesses and don't want to exercise inner control over their own thoughts and feelings. At least, that's how I understood it. And in the lyrics, the final "Shut up!" is probably addressed to this girl. Like, stop wining and boosting your own madness, how disgusting is your behaviour. That girl in the movie is an antipode of everything Miku stands for: she is weak, she does not want to fight, she just goes down the path of self-destruction, she prefers to close her eyes and refuse to see the reality. That's why all these desperate cries by Saiki here, "What do you live for?" etc.
Come to think of it, Helter Skelter…the song and the playground slide can be metaphors for reincarnation. “When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide “ 🤔
This remains my favourite Band-Maid song even till today. Please don't get me wrong, I love a lot of their songs, but this one just resonates the most with me. Yeah, you're right - the lyrics are one heck of a read and are truly subject to many possible interpretations. So many things to love about this song......

Band Maids answer to the critics saying they had gone soft. I was waiting for you to get to some of this stuff and you still have only scratched the surface, lucky you, so much to look forward too !
I love this one. If Kanami takes her power stance any lower, she's going to be subterranean. Stories may have other theories, but I look at this as Band Maid deciding to try something new to them to see if they like it. One of the delights of Band Maid is that they have no fear about trying new sounds, rhythms or arrangements. I strongly believe that one reason that they are still happily playing after more than 10 years is that they have never locked themselves into anything, any structure, any sound. It keeps it fresh for us and I'm sure, for them.
Keep in mind while watching this...The video was based on a horror movie in which someone is killing people to watch the soul leave the body. Yep, pretty fun Maid hijinks going on.😲 Our Maids always leave us asking the the eternal question..."WTF did I just hear?" Thanks again, Miss Picc-olo.❤️
Neen-yeht, the t is silent but you can almost hear it! Google translate could be wrong but sounds about right! This is one of Band-Maids hardest hitting song, Akane had to practice the double kicks many times before recording! She’s a pro now!! Great reaction!
Great Review - I really like the speed and precision on the guitars and I particularly love Kanami stance at the 4:20 mark....what a real rocker! Another great reaction as always Miss NittPicc I always love your insight to the songs and unabashed glee from the different parts of their songs, case in point at around 5:14 in the song whatever Miku is doing and the stanza right after that. This music is a kind of response for the critics they receive after releasing Start over or Endless Story - that they were going soft, and Saiki finished with a Shut up directly for the critics.
That's not likely true. Rinne was debuted live the same week start over released. From an interview: Q: Which song on the album did you write first? Kanami: We wrote Endless Story and Rinne relatively early. Because Rinne was a song saved in the stock.
@@_DriveTime Reading the comments I noticed that at least two other commentators gave the same answer I gave. So, it is something that circulated at that time.
Hello, NittPicc. Cool reaction. Rinne is very popular among the Maidicacs. Perfect for boxing training. Miku's words less poetic because it's inspired by a Japanese horror film. Saiki likes this kind of film. After Rinne you have to listen to After Life. But I've made this joke before, I think. Sorry. THANKS
Nitpick, Haven't you noticed? Kanami and MISA take turns following the vocal. One of them is behind Saiki making her vocals sound more magnificent. Shear genius.
When I first heard this song, I thought they mislabeled the video because I could have sworn it was Slipknot playing. I had to relisten to Akane kicking those drums over and over. It's the same with Different and the opening noise. It took my ears a long time to finally make out what was being played. They can make cacophony sound amazing.
Dirty Maids. That works. As a former Punk Rock Skater Kid this song just, it "brings me joy. Also, could someone get Akane some water 'cause she just ran a marathon in like 3+ minutes.
The best Band Maid concert opener has to be the 2020 Line Cube Shibuya show, where Akane opens the show with a mini drum "solo" that leads into the 1st song "Rinne" (Find the hard to find clip, you won't regret it, Po!). Btw, here's an excerpt from a 2019 interview on the release of their "Conquer" album: - The last song Rinne is great at servings too, isn’t it? It’s a pretty intense song. Kobato: We went for intensity as much as possible in this song, po. Saiki: We pursued the hardness that we Band-Maid can achieve now. But actually, more than one year ago… Kobato: Long before that. It’s been about two years, probably, po. Saiki: It was a candidate for the previous album, but… Kobato: At that time, we were like “This song doesn’t fit well in it”, po. Saiki: Also, it didn’t sound like this. Kobato: It went through lots and lots of modifications and changes from there to the current intense form, which is almost the complete opposite of the original form, po. Saiki: It was a bit more like Blooming, and it wasn’t this dark. Kobato: Rather, it was a brighter song, po, right? Then it became harder and harder, po. Saiki: Also, its BPM is as fast as 190, so our drummer Akane almost died. Kobato: She says she was like “Are you kidding?!” when she received a demo of the current form, po (laughs). Kanami first asked her about how fast she can kick. Saiki: She answered like “I kicked at 175 in the last album and I’m gradually getting used to 180”, then Kanami was like “So you’ll make it at 190 or so, right?” (laughs) Kobato: She received that message and she was like “Hmm?”, po (laughs). But she worked really hard on it. We Band-Maid are all strict with ourselves, po. Saiki: We train ourselves through our songs and recordings, right? (laughs) 🦍🍌 More DIRTY Band Maid, please 😂
Banzai Band-Maid! Thanks for yet another great reaction, Nitt! I get more metal than grunge from this (especially the 32nd note palm-muted bits you noted), but that's probably splitting hairs and/or personal feel. As always, the synthesis of these sounds are the genre we know and love as Band-Maid! I think the song's meaning is just very existential. But I read the "what do you live for?" as a challenge, like Camus would say, having to come up with your own meaning for your life.
Well dirty Maid is the best version of Band Maid😁👍 this one of the best songs by Band Maid. I really would love them to do more of this grittier stuff. Great reaction😀
"Dirty-Maid" rocks! This is probably the heaviest Band-Maid song. Those rapid fire kicks by Akane set the tone for the rest of the song. I like the left/right head shaking that Miku does, along with her yelling some of the backing vocals such as "Close Your Eyes" and "Open Your Eyes". This being a studio track it is Kanami doing all of the guitar parts. Of course Miku does the rhythm guitar and that repeated slide during the live shows.
I love Miku shaking her head at begining. She does this on Domination tour final concert where Rinne was opening of the concert. Can you imagin this song as 1st song in the concert?
Great reaction as always. I would say that this track is firmly Metal and not grunge. Mincho's palm-muted 32nd's are right from the Metallica/Megadeth playbook. For Grunge Maid, try Matchless Gum. Rock on Nittpicc 🤘
I don’t think you’re crazy for feeling like this song is different than the rest of their catalog. It’s chunky and heavy, the closest to it is Dice or Screaming (and Screaming is even known for being very different lol).
I'm with you on the grunge track theory. I really think people need to listen to at least 20 tracks from this incredible band in order to really get a grasp of their true skills and talent. I mean who can do this many genres and do them all spectacularly!?
Thank you again for your wonderful explanations and reactions! I think “Rinne” is one of BAND-MAID’s best MVs. By the way, there is a Japanese horror movie with the same title, ''輪廻 (Reincarnation)''. The maid (actress) appears briefly in the movie. 😁 I remember them saying in an interview that the song had a J-horror vibe, so they may have been inspired by this movie. In this way, they create songs with a playful spirit.😎
The name came from a Japanese Horror Movie, which you can rent it on TH-cam. It used a lot of 8 mm film, which is why this was shot that way. You could say this is Thrash Metal influenced BAND-MAID, which gives them a darker sound. But then again RINNE was a pretty dark movie, and I've only seen the Trailer. Yes, Miku will occasionally play small lead parts, like in 'Manners', but also other lead lines like in "Secret My Lips' or another one I can't remember. Though she's not quite to the point where they're going to play Thin Lizzy style Dual Leads. But Kanami's Lead sounds like someone hit rewind on a tape machine! But I know what you mean by being lost with BAND-MAID. It's like you're in a car chase with them, and they mad a sharp turn, and you went straight off a cliff. But the free fall feels nice.
Since I first heard BAND-MAID, Misa has been my favourite. This song in particular shows what she brings to the band's sound. It's a groove. Not just funky. It is a heavy groove. And that is one of the most important elements when I listen to the music.
If Band-Maid isn't ripping your face off (Rinne, No God, Black Hole), they're soothing your soul (Bestie, Daydreaming, Manners). Their music does what great music is supposed to do... move you, if only for a moment, into another realm. What more could you ask for from a Band of incredible Maids?! Thank you, Ms Picc, for bringing your new viewers into the Band-Maid experience.
Kanami is a student of various sub genres of heavy metal. All her riffs, licks, arpeggios, tricks, etc. can be found in the 80s-90s metal music. But Kanami combined them with j-rock melody to become Band-Maid music we love.
It's heavy metal - Band-Maid style. Just one of the many ways the Maids demonstrate their musical virtuosity. Any style of hard rock (pop, punk, grunge, progressive, stoner rock, speed metal, heavy metal and rock ballads), infused with funk and jazz. Best band on the planet.
This is just pure, uncut rock badassery! And it's from Conqueror, which is pretty much their most tame album, LOL! I love this song! I can't remember if I heard them do it live on the 2022 tour, but I think they might have. yeah, this one is a keeper Po!
Rinne is in my wheelhouse but the things I like here I also get from tracks like Giovanni, Onset, HGK, Puzzle, Don’t be long and Don’t apply the brake, I can’t get enough of them.
The Maid-rabbit-hole is so unique that it's a pigeon-hole. Never been any fan of this song... But how it kicks out of the gates at the 2020 concert? Awesome!
I find this to be their most uncharacteristic song. Angrier than hate? (which feels more like righteous indignation to me). Only the chorus and solo give it away as theirs. Perfectly composed, arranged and performed as usual.
One of my favourite songs in my 65 years on the planet. The Maid's gifting us a speeding freight train of a tune and showing all they are true champions of rock. What a fcken band Po 👍🍻
In the horror movie "Rinne" a serial killer films his victims last moments on 8mm film to try to catch their soul leaving their body. The video was shot on super 8 film and then made to look like an old scratched, faded badly exposed 8mm film in homage to the movie.
Yup and some Action cameras with higher frame rates, because Akane's and Kanami's feet/hands/fingers were too fast for the 24 FPS frame rate of the Super 8 cameras. If I remember the article I read correctly, they used 2 GoPros set to 100 or 120 FPS frame rates. Then they used the filter overlay to hide the difference between the film footage and the digital footage.
What the song is about - Saiki is a horror movie fan. She watched a movie about a serial killer who "filmed" his victims as they passed, thinking he could capture their "spirit" as it left the body. Hence the song is about Reincarnation. So, yeah, the song is very "dirty", "muddy", or "soiled". So, Kanami wrote the music, Miku wrote the lyrics and Band-Maid rocked it out! It is also the heaviest song on "Conqueror."

This song and video reminds me most of STP, Interstate Love Song et al
Dirty Maids. That works. As a former Punk Rock Skater Kid this song just, it "brings me joy. Also, could someone get Akane some water 'cause she just ran a marathon in like 3+ minutes.
The best Band Maid concert opener has to be the 2020 Line Cube Shibuya show, where Akane opens the show with a mini drum "solo" that leads into the 1st song "Rinne" (Find the hard to find clip, you won't regret it, Po!). Btw, here's an excerpt from a 2019 interview on the release of their "Conquer" album:
- The last song Rinne is great at servings too, isn’t it? It’s a pretty intense song.
Kobato: We went for intensity as much as possible in this song, po.
Saiki: We pursued the hardness that we Band-Maid can achieve now. But actually, more than one year ago…
Kobato: Long before that. It’s been about two years, probably, po.
Saiki: It was a candidate for the previous album, but…
Kobato: At that time, we were like “This song doesn’t fit well in it”, po.
Saiki: She answered like “I kicked at 175 in the last album and I’m gradually getting used to 180”, then Kanami was like “So you’ll make it at 190 or so, right?” (laughs)
Kobato: She received that message and she was like “Hmm?”, po (laughs). But she worked really hard on it. We Band-Maid are all strict with ourselves, po.
Saiki: We train ourselves through our songs and recordings, right? (laughs)
🦍🍌 More DIRTY Band Maid, please 😂
AWESOME SONG AS ALWAYS AND GREAT REACTION AS ALWAYS
Miku was doing the little chirpy slides, yes! She does that on a few other songs, but a lot in that second verse, here!
One of my favorites 🙏🕊&❤️
Rock on Nittpicc 🤘
a little dirt on it - i love it ! kind of like the song 'don't let me down' - a lot of dirty !
DIRTY-MAID !!!! 🤘😎 Love it!!
I don’t think you’re crazy for feeling like this song is different than the rest of their catalog. It’s chunky and heavy, the closest to it is Dice or Screaming (and Screaming is even known for being very different lol).
Thiis song was written for the music press critics who said they were pop.
There is no one I will really enjoy being told to shut up more than Saiki! The Gorilla is on fire in this song!
❤ I’m new😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you. This makes my Sunday morning shine a little brighter.💥💥💥
I'm with you on the grunge track theory. I really think people need to listen to at least 20 tracks from this incredible band in order to really get a grasp of their true skills and talent. I mean who can do this many genres and do them all spectacularly!?
Yeah, this song makes me sweat too. Absolutely incredible. Akane is on fire in this one. And that's my favourite Kanami solo.
I remember them saying in an interview that the song had a J-horror vibe, so they may have been inspired by this movie.
Hard rock mixed with grunge ! What an on the nose description !
RINNE is Metal, which is upbeat and exciting, and sometimes filled with rage. Not Grunge, which sounds sleepy and depressing.
Maybe instrumentally speaking, but the "feel" is grungy, and it makes sense if we catch attention to the lyrics...
seems more old school metal than grunge, but maybe bit of both? 🤔
This is just pure, uncut rock badassery! And it's from Conqueror, which is pretty much their most tame album, LOL! I love this song! I can't remember if I heard them do it live on the 2022 tour, but I think they might have. yeah, this one is a keeper Po!
LOL... "dirty maid". BTW, cool braids.
One of my favourite tracks by Band-Maid!! Frakking phenominal!! Excellent reaction vid!
Had the pleasure of hearing this live in Anaheim. Killed it 🔥
Is this first video with frontal pigtail, or i am late to the party?: :) Looks good.
Dirty Maids, great name for a Band-Maid cover band!
Very fun reaction. Your analysis has me back in the song and enjoying it even more!!
Funnily, Rinne and Blooming are the last and last but one tracks on the album Conqueror that is relatively soft before those two tracks bang in.
Miku is a small pigeon & Akane is a gorilla but all the Maidiacs know it's BAND-MAID who's the GOAT.😏
Why you bring all your animals family with you you here😝😂🤣
@@MnPofBM Lol. And another thing you didn't know about me is i'm BAND-MAIDS official cat stroker.🐈⬛🐈
@@GaryHolloway-810🙄🫢🫡😎
I am a cat😼
@@cats-eyes Has anyone ever told you you have beautiful eyes? 🤔Come to think of it i have.🤦♂️
Rinne is in my wheelhouse but the things I like here I also get from tracks like Giovanni, Onset, HGK, Puzzle, Don’t be long and Don’t apply the brake, I can’t get enough of them.
Hi, i'm really interesting about your reaction to In Extremo - Herr Mannelig Live.
Band maid grabs you , pushes you against the wall , slaps you n then your happy about it and say thank you
Ryan mear-
Who doesn't love dirty!!!!!😛
'No more stupid - yeah...'
This is one of my favorites of theirs, Check out Manners next for a completely different vibe.
You may be crazy, but that does not make you wrong!
I'm sure Saiki would appreciate your baseball analogy. Go Tigers!
One of my favourite songs in my 65 years on the planet. The Maid's gifting us a speeding freight train of a tune and showing all they are true champions of rock. What a fcken band Po 👍🍻
Band-Maid doesn’t make me sweat, they make perspire. 😅
Hope you had a great time at the LOVEBITES concert.
NittPicc, is that bass in the background new? Very cool! Let us know how you progress! Good luck and be sure to channel your inner Barefoot Assassin!
It is also the heaviest song on "Conqueror."
this is jack daniels ver of their music
I think " Different" is next right Madiacs?
𝙈𝙞𝙠𝙪 ᔕᒪIᗪEᔕ!
One of my favorite BAND-MAID songs.
