Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. Andrea, you are so lucky to be in the same country with so much great music going on, especially where my favorite band in the world resides, Band-Maid. I've been around for a while(I'm 75 years old) and have seen a lot of great music (rock and other genres). These five young Japanese females have restored my hope that there is great rock music out there. If you react to Band-Maid's music videos, you will gain a following and friends you never knew you had. We Maidiacs (that's what Band-Maid fans call ourselves) are very loyal to the group and to reactors who follow their music. The band will incorporate any genre into their music. They also do wonderfully beautiful ballads and have been commissioned to do several anime features. Simply put, this group is amazingly talented, very professional, and really cohesive with their music and their sound. I'm not going to suggest you listen to one song. I hope you go to the Band-Maid official TH-cam channel, pull up any of their videos and react to it. They are all great. Welcome to the world of Band-Maid!
The dual vocals are a Band Maid hallmark and sets them apart for me. You never know what Miku is going to add vocally on any given song, but it always sounds so good!
Most Japanese bands don't have much say in the matter. The RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) is the organization in place to protect musical copyright in the country and can and will strike videos when they feel like it.

Sugoi! In my 60 years of being a rock enthusiast, I can say BAND-MAID is probably my favorite band. Kanami Tono (lead guitarist) writes their music (initially on piano), and Miku Kobato (rhythm guitar, backup vocals) writes most of their lyrics. No one blends pop, punk, rock, and metal like BAND-MAID. I've seen them twice and they are not to be missed! Arigatou! More please!! ##Maidiac
Welcome to Band-Maid. I've seen you do reactions before and I'm glad you found your way to Band-Maid. Keep rocking with the Maids as their discography is deep and diverse. Funny you should mention The Warning. They are fans of each other and recently did a concert together in Roppongi. And did a collaboration song which they debut at that concert. Keep rocking with the Maid! PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 You hit on so many of the talking points on the Maids: -Akane (drummer) is the happiest drummer out there. It's a rare moment to find her not having fun and smiling. She does make it look effortless, yet she hits so hard. -Gathering around the drummer. They are playing the childhood game of hengao, a game of making funny/weird faces to throw the other person off. What you pointed out was Akane making a kissy face as a "Good try, but you failed!" response to the other Maids. Check out "Puzzle" OLMV and you can see Akane beat Saiki at the game. -Saiki (lead vocals) and Miku (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, lead vocals, main lyricist, main spokespigeon, and band founder) have very distinct voices but harmonizes together so well. Miku was the lead singer when she formed the band. Realized her Pop Idol voice (Miku, along with 2 others, was selected from 2600 other contestants in a idol contest to form the underground idol group Lil' Cumin before Band-Maid) alone wasn't going to fit the band sound she envisioned. So, she approached the Label and they looked at the talent under the label. They found Saiki as she had the power and depth she was looking for. -Transitions are a trademark of the Maids. -Layers is also a trademark of the Maids. There is always multiple layers of things going on. You will have the lead vocal melody, often with Kanami playing a counter melody under the lead vocals, and then have MISA (bass) playing another counter melody under the other two. Amazingly, you can hear them all, you can isolate them if you just focus on one of them, yet, they don't overstep each other. -You like the bass, then you'll definitely love Band-Maid. They are a band with no egos and allow everyone to shine. They do what's best for the song. MISA is one of the best live band bassist in the world right now. And she's allowed to shine in the service of the song.

The ONLY band I know of where the founder (Miku) fired herself as singer and learned guitar from scratch to make the band better. Oh and yeah she kinda thinks she's a pigeon,PO!

Side note there is a scene in the 2021 movie Baby Assassins that gives a quick taste of how over the top the idea of the Maid Cafe is for people who have no clue.

Miku (red rose/guitarist/vocals) was the founder, main lyricist and original lead vocalist of a 4-piece Band Maid, but after a couple of shows she realized, as you said, her voice was too sweet. So, she stepped back and they brought in Saiki (blue rose/vocals) to take over, then Miku went guitar shopping and asked Kanami (lead guitar) to be her sensei. After 10 years, Miku has become very competent and has her own signature guitar. The band likes to gather around Akane (drums) to make faces at her to get her to mess up, but never works. Yes, it's not very often that a drum solo keeps the same tempo throughout, which gave us that seamless transition to the guitar solo. MISA (bass) is not your normal bassist, beware of the Barefoot Assassin. If you like The Warning, check out MV "Show Them", it's a collab they did with...... Band Maid. 😄🤘

Great reaction! Yeah, once you start praising one member, you feel like you have to do the same to all the other members... right? It's Band-Maid. Since I found them 3 years ago and listen to them almost every day, I'm more and more convinced that this band is a miracle. Welcome princess to the world of Band Maid ❤ These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. My favourite is currently "Corallium", but here is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special LIVE videos try "Freedom", "Corallium", "Play", "Real Existence" and Endless Story. With "Moratorium" (Live at Zepp), "Rinne" (MV) and "Dice" you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are "Choose me" (MV) and this one, "Alone" (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe "About Us" (MV) and "Daydreaming" (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like "From now on" (MV) and "Onset" (Live). And finally a very special mind blowing live performance is "Manners/Blackhole" (Official Online Live). At least these songs are needed to get the full story of Band Maid! Band Maid🎀 is well known in Japan, but most of their fans don't live there or speak Japanese! When the music is this good, well, nothing else matters! Living in Japan, (lucky!) you should catch them in concert as they're widely regarded as one of the best live acts ever.😸EVER!

On your remark about anime intros, Band-Maid has done several intro/outros for animes to date, thought this piece isn't one of them. "Casually killing it." Yeah, that's Band-Maid, exactly... just up there giving out positive energy by the truckload. Their live shows are just too much fun, I hope you get to see them. No dates upcoming in the US yet, but we're hoping they announce something for 2025.

Akane is the happiest drummer on the planet in one of the best bands on the planet. You are not alone in being drawn toward Misa (bass guitar) as your favorite band member. Fans call her the Barefoot Assassin which comes from an interview where the host was saying that Misa was not wearing a maid outfit and Miku (rhythm guitar & vocals) spoke up for her stating that it was an assassin maid outfit, along with the fact that Misa goes barefoot on stage.

You wisely picked out a lot of things on first listen, like that masterful transition from the drum solo into the guitar solo and the contrast in vocal timbre between the two vocalists (there's a whole story there, which you will learn in time). Funny you mention The Warning, because they're besties with the Maids, and the two bands recently collaborated on a song and video called "Show Them." Since you live in Japan there's no reason not to go see Band-Maid at one of their coming performances: in Aichi on Nov. 2, Osaka Nov. 3, then at Zepp Haneda on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. They will blow you away live. No matter how high your expectations going in, the Maids will blow them to smithereens. Here are the members' names: Saiki Atsumi (lead vocals) Miku Kobato (the little pigeon, po!/backup vocals/rhythm guitar/chief lyricist) Kanami Tōno (lead guitar/genius musical composer) BTW, the kanji for her first name means "song wave"! When they gather around the drummer they are making faces to get her to mess up (it doesn't work). In this case they are retaliating for an earlier song in this concert when the drummer made the singer laugh.
Miku the backup vocalist, is the founder. She had won a Japanese idol competition, but a year or so after the competition, the group was dissolved. Miku took her idea of cafe maids playing hard rock to another production company. Hiring the guitarist Kamami first, it was a chain reaction of I know a bass player who knows a drumer...Still the sound was not right. Miku had the production company bring Saiki and her deeper voice to the band. Wanting a second guitar, Miku decided to learn guitar . Eleven years, 130+ songs of which 90% are their compositions, the studio videos are fine, but they really are their best in live concert videos. Hard not to like because they incorporate various genra into their composition. While they are capable on blistering speed (Giovani, Black Hole) they can also impress you with acoustic performances (Saynakidori in their pandemic Christmas special). Another maidiac is born! Same video that I first saw, which sent me down the pigeon hole. Too often I’ll see a video/hear a song by a band and I’m disappointed to find that it’s their best song, and nothing else comes close. Maybe out of the whole catalog I really only find a few songs I like. Not so with Band Maid! It’s a deep catalog of one awesome song after another… and more coming very soon.
The Maid costumes are to create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing demure maids vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. Miku, red flower, founded the band in 2013. She is the primary Lyricist. Their largest fan base is in the US and Europe, Japan has been growing as Maid Band has become bigger internationally. Oh, Miku is also the Spokes Pigeon for the band.
Nice choice soyou got to see the gorillas kiss by akane to envoke her drum gods to show her dominance over her kit and an absolutely amazing saiki's salute from kanami/ mincho/ minchozilla to show her appreciation for saiki the lead singer but be warned the number 1 rule is to never talk or pause while kanami is speaking enjoy this journey for there is no turning back now
My advice to every 1st-time B-M reactor: go to the Ohrenje YT channel & watch their bio-docs. Start with Kobato Miku Parts 1,2,3 since her story is the band's story. Then check out the 4 others' individual docs. You'll gain an even deeper appreciation of their music and (especially) their live interactions. But so far so good: you have a brilliant ability to notice what works, and to describe it clearly. ❤ (For your next few listens, just roll the Dice & play whichever video says Choose Me to you. 😉)
Band-Maid will not block you for using their official live and music videos. You don't need to blur them in any way. They WANT you to bring them to the attention of new people. By the way, Band-Maid put on lots of concerts in Japan, so you should take the opportunity and see them live. Oh, and the drummer -- Akane -- is the happiest drummer. Always a big smile, unless it is the last song of a tour, and then she is battling tears as she plays.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. Andrea, you are so lucky to be in the same country with so much great music going on, especially where my favorite band in the world resides, Band-Maid. I've been around for a while(I'm 75 years old) and have seen a lot of great music (rock and other genres). These five young Japanese females have restored my hope that there is great rock music out there. If you react to Band-Maid's music videos, you will gain a following and friends you never knew you had. We Maidiacs (that's what Band-Maid fans call ourselves) are very loyal to the group and to reactors who follow their music. The band will incorporate any genre into their music. They also do wonderfully beautiful ballads and have been commissioned to do several anime features. Simply put, this group is amazingly talented, very professional, and really cohesive with their music and their sound. I'm not going to suggest you listen to one song. I hope you go to the Band-Maid official TH-cam channel, pull up any of their videos and react to it. They are all great. Welcome to the world of Band-Maid!
The dual vocals are a Band Maid hallmark and sets them apart for me. You never know what Miku is going to add vocally on any given song, but it always sounds so good!

Most Japanese bands don't have much say in the matter. The RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) is the organization in place to protect musical copyright in the country and can and will strike videos when they feel like it.

Sugoi! In my 60 years of being a rock enthusiast, I can say BAND-MAID is probably my favorite band. Kanami Tono (lead guitarist) writes their music (initially on piano), and Miku Kobato (rhythm guitar, backup vocals) writes most of their lyrics. No one blends pop, punk, rock, and metal like BAND-MAID. I've seen them twice and they are not to be missed! Arigatou! More please!! ##Maidiac

Funny you should mention The Warning. They are fans of each other and recently did a concert together in Roppongi. And did a collaboration song which they debut at that concert. You hit on so many of the talking points on the Maids:
-Akane (drummer) is the happiest drummer out there. It's a rare moment to find her not having fun and smiling. She does make it look effortless, yet she hits so hard.
-Gathering around the drummer. They are playing the childhood game of hengao, a game of making funny/weird faces to throw the other person off. What you pointed out was Akane making a kissy face as a "Good try, but you failed!" response to the other Maids. Check out "Puzzle" OLMV and you can see Akane beat Saiki at the game.
-Saiki (lead vocals) and Miku (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, lead vocals, main lyricist, main spokespigeon, and band founder) have very distinct voices but harmonizes together so well. Miku was the lead singer when she formed the band. Realized her Pop Idol voice (Miku, along with 2 others, was selected from 2600 other contestants in a idol contest to form the underground idol group Lil' Cumin before Band-Maid) alone wasn't going to fit the band sound she envisioned. So, she approached the Label and they looked at the talent under the label. They found Saiki as she had the power and depth she was looking for.
-Transitions are a trademark of the Maids.
-Layers is also a trademark of the Maids. There is always multiple layers of things going on. You will have the lead vocal melody, often with Kanami playing a counter melody under the lead vocals, and then have MISA (bass) playing another counter melody under the other two. Amazingly, you can hear them all, you can isolate them if you just focus on one of them, yet, they don't overstep each other.
-You like the bass, then you'll definitely love Band-Maid. They are a band with no egos and allow everyone to shine. They do what's best for the song. MISA is one of the best live band bassist in the world right now. And she's allowed to shine in the service of the song.

Miku (red rose/guitarist/vocals) was the founder, main lyricist and original lead vocalist of a 4-piece Band Maid, but after a couple of shows she realized, as you said, her voice was too sweet. So, she stepped back and they brought in Saiki (blue rose/vocals) to take over, then Miku went guitar shopping and asked Kanami (lead guitar) to be her sensei. After 10 years, Miku has become very competent and has her own signature guitar. The band likes to gather around Akane (drums) to make faces at her to get her to mess up, but never works. Yes, it's not very often that a drum solo keeps the same tempo throughout, which gave us that seamless transition to the guitar solo. MISA (bass) is not your normal bassist, beware of the Barefoot Assassin. If you like The Warning, check out MV "Show Them", it's a collab they did with...... Band Maid. 😄🤘

Great reaction! Yeah, once you start praising one member, you feel like you have to do the same to all the other members... right? It's Band-Maid. Since I found them 3 years ago and listen to them almost every day, I'm more and more convinced that this band is a miracle. Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies).
I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. My favourite is currently "Corallium", but here is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special LIVE videos try "Freedom", "Corallium", "Play", "Real Existence" and Endless Story. With "Moratorium" (Live at Zepp), "Rinne" (MV) and "Dice" you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are "Choose me" (MV) and this one, "Alone" (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe "About Us" (MV) and "Daydreaming" (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like "From now on" (MV) and "Onset" (Live). And finally a very special mind blowing live performance is "Manners/Blackhole" (Official Online Live).
At least these songs are needed to get the full story of Band Maid! And there is more: For example the songs with Miku in lead, their christmas acoustic concert and the 'cover band' Band-Maiko ;-) They have rock, pop punk, funk, jazz, prog and more elements in their reportoire! Especially their earlier works are pop punkish.
About the Maid thing? They use many elements from japanese 'Maid Cafes' where Miku once worked: They call their concerts "Servings" (okyu ji), their audience "Masters and princesses" (goshujin-sama to ojou-sama) and each concert is sweetened by (mostly) Mikus "Magic Spell Time" (Omajinai), a 'magical' moment for everyone ... full of energy! And of course there is their outfit which changed alot since their early days but at least Miku is staying with this classic Maid outfit. You can learn alot more from fan videos and from the wonderful documentary series made by Ohrenje and Kaspar Michael (narrator). Band Maid is much more than just their great songs!
My recommendations for a next song? I would say: Alone (MV) 😅

Band Maid🎀 is well known in Japan, but most of their fans don't live there or speak Japanese! When the music is this good, well, nothing else matters! Living in Japan, (lucky!) you should catch them in concert as they're widely regarded as one of the best live acts ever.😸EVER!
If you want to explore more of Saiki's voice, check out Wonderland (OLV). If you want to experience more of Miku (rhythm guitar, secondary vocalist), Sayonakidori (live acoustic video). Fans call her the Barefoot Assassin which comes from an interview where the host was saying that Misa was not wearing a maid outfit and Miku (rhythm guitar & vocals) spoke up for her stating that it was an assassin maid outfit, along with the fact that Misa goes barefoot on stage.

You wisely picked out a lot of things on first listen, like that masterful transition from the drum solo into the guitar solo and the contrast in vocal timbre between the two vocalists (there's a whole story there, which you will learn in time). Funny you mention The Warning, because they're besties with the Maids, and the two bands recently collaborated on a song and video called "Show Them." Since you live in Japan there's no reason not to go see Band-Maid at one of their coming performances: in Aichi on Nov. 2, Osaka Nov. 3, then at Zepp Haneda on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. They will blow you away live. No matter how high your expectations going in, the Maids will blow them to smithereens.

When they gather around the drummer they are making faces to get her to mess up (it doesn't work). In this case they are retaliating for an earlier song in this concert when the drummer made the singer laugh.
Miku the backup vocalist, is the founder. She had won a Japanese idol competition, but a year or so after the competition, the group was dissolved. Miku took her idea of cafe maids playing hard rock to another production company. Hiring the guitarist Kamami first, it was a chain reaction of I know a bass player who knows a drumer...Still the sound was not right. Miku had the production company bring Saiki and her deeper voice to the band. Wanting a second guitar, Miku decided to learn guitar . Eleven years, 130+ songs of which 90% are their compositions, the studio videos are fine, but they really are their best in live concert videos. Hard not to like because they incorporate various genra into their composition. While they are capable on blistering speed (Giovani, Black Hole) they can also impress you with acoustic performances (Saynakidori in their pandemic Christmas special). Another maidiac is born! Same video that I first saw, which sent me down the pigeon hole. Too often I’ll see a video/hear a song by a band and I’m disappointed to find that it’s their best song, and nothing else comes close. Maybe out of the whole catalog I really only find a few songs I like. Not so with Band Maid! It’s a deep catalog of one awesome song after another… and more coming very soon.

The Maid costumes are to create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing demure maids vs what you are hearing Hard Rock.
Miku, red flower, founded the band in 2013. She is the primary Lyricist.
Their largest fan base is in the US and Europe, Japan has been growing as Maid Band has become bigger internationally.
Oh, Miku is also the Spokes Pigeon for the band.
Nice choice soyou got to see the gorillas kiss by akane to envoke her drum gods to show her dominance over her kit and an absolutely amazing saiki's salute from kanami/ mincho/ minchozilla to show her appreciation for saiki the lead singer but be warned the number 1 rule is to never talk or pause while kanami is speaking enjoy this journey for there is no turning back now

My advice to every 1st-time B-M reactor: go to the Ohrenje YT channel & watch their bio-docs. Start with Kobato Miku Parts 1,2,3 since her story is the band's story. Then check out the 4 others' individual docs. You'll gain an even deeper appreciation of their music and (especially) their live interactions.
