It's not exact, but it's a summary of the lyrics Miku wrote. "You can't love a life where you just count the number of wounds you've been hurt. Put a lid on the overflowing whining. It happens when you want to cry and when you're in pain. Don't mourn without accomplishing anything! The decision is yours. ”Be proud, work hard, and don't entrust your dreams to others! ” The lyrics are very Miku-like.
I know nothing about music except that I have been listening to it for decades. There have been some great bands and great songs. But, and I am embarrassed to say this. I have never come across a band that I can play all day. Listen to the same track over and over. Happy to have reactors go back and repeat moments in songs. Each track has an albums worth of ideas. Each track is a work of pure art and genius. There are moments that are subtle enough to be missed until repeat playings. I have no idea who is the best or what constitutes brilliant musicianship. But for pure entertainment and smiles and tears and mind blowing pleasure. I am embarrassed to say. I have never known a band as consistently good as this. Great to see reactors who are as enthusiastic over what is pure musical entertainment.
Secret My Lips is all Akane Hirose on the drums. This is one of the best songs that showcases just how bad ass she is. Miku with the call outs and harmonies is to die for. Saiki is a picture of grace and Misa and Kanamincho just own it. Rock and Roll!!!
Secret Maiko Lips is the most elaborate and well produced April Fool's prank you'll ever hear. The addition of the traditional instruments and the stunning trad costumes make that video a jaw dropper.
there's one comment on this song/mv that's burned in my mind that perfectly describes this -- 'secret my lips' is peak songwriting brilliance and contains all elements that evoke all kinds of emotion -- tension, build-up, climax, bliss and fulfillment.
Miku on low vocal harmonies always gets me. It's so subtle, but important to the texture. (Damn, you're fun to watch) (one more thing. The classic Band-Maid fakeout at 9:00 lol. They come back in now!.... no, now! They do this a lot. They know how to play with you.)
This one is an Akane drum clinic. First time I heard it, I was like, yea Akane is Special. One of the great things about Band-Maid is that when you hear the starts of a lot of their songs, You say oh, this is good. But then the second verse comes and they take it up another notch and so by the time you get closer to the end you are just kind of awestruck with how much they have built up the song. You get through one part and think that they really can't get much better and then they do and it gobsmacks you that they can make it even better. It's just really great writing, arranging and performing. One of the smartest bands I've ever known. Really nice to see you enjoying them so much.
I was holding my breath for your reaction when Kanami switches into jazz mode for the bridge. MISA, classically trained, plays right at home with her. It doesn’t feel like a rock band playing jazz. It feels authentic. They are musical shapeshifters. Imagine a songwriting session with the Maids!? How do they come up with all this stuff? Thanks for another wonderful and fun reaction. I look forward to seeing how you respond to Band Maid’s arch enemies…Band Maiko 😊
Often it embarrasses me to understand this... it often feels like being in a five star restaurant and get served (!) an intricate dish like this song. But instead of savouring every bite of it, I end up wolfing it down like a caveman. I guess it's this "fangirling" you were talking about. On the other hand, this may be the reason why Band-maid never bores me. Thank you for a highly entertaining reaction!
I am so happy you're reacting to this song. This was my 3rd ever Band-Maid song and the song cemented my love for this band back in 2017. This song holds such a special place in my heart due to that. Getting to see them perform this live in my hometown last year is one of my life-long highlights. Standing in front of Miku on the rail and singing this song at the top of my voice and getting Miku's guitar pick at the end of the show was something I'll never forget. IMO - this song exemplifies how seamlessly they blend musical genres in a song, you've got post-punk, pop-punk, some metal elements, emo, hard rock all weaving in and out and around each other throughout this song. Always the stand outs for me on this song are Akane's drums, soooo good, MISA's bass lines and flourishes, that simple yet powerful riff from Kanami and MISA, and the outro chorus never fails to make me wonder why someone is cutting onions around me.
This is the song that solidified Akane as a badass drummer for me!! Her skills are tremendously good! Band-Maid is on a level on their own, best rock group on the planet!!
I think you will find that BAND MAIKO will give our MAIDs a run for their money ;) . Remember, this comes off of BAND MAIDs breakout album if you will ... other than the single song "Alone" from the previous album and the single "YOLO" with its two spectacular B sides, this album represents the first time the girls actually had full control of their music. Affectionately known as JBI (for Just Bring It) by fans, many, including me, find this to be their finest work ... not that there is any bad BAND MAID ;) . FYI, I don't know much about your playback equipment but I have to say it is really good. I hear things musically I don't hear from other reactors or even playback of original music on my own. Very nice.
I have to admit the first couple of reactions I might have thought you were stopping too often. I was very wrong, you have so much to offer it is all perfectly apropos. You are quickly rising above many of my other fav reactors because of this, please keep on keeping on. Great in-depth analysis I picked up a few things NO ONE else has and this song has been reacted to for years. There is always so much to unpack on every Band Maid song, they are so talented and write such wonderful complex compositions.
We love you Nitt!!! You make the best reaction videos on YT because of your depth of knowledge and the way you can break it down into simple terms. I love BM but couldn't define exactly why but you have taught me how to better appreciate their compositions, thank you! And you have the perfect bubbly personality to review BM songs!
I was wondering what todays reaction might be, never thought it would be my favorite SML, what a treat! This song just has everything and I never get tired of hearing it. When I first discovered Band Maid and heard a few songs it was obvious they were a great rock band, but upon hearing SML I realized they were indeed special. 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂🕊
The Secret's out -- Band-Maid is an influential, trendsetting, major force in the music scene! Their huge Yokohama Arena concert on Nov. 26, 2023 was a spectacular 10-year celebration and launch party to the next 10 years of Maid Domination. Thx, Miss Picc! ;-)
The one thing you cannot do to Band-Maid is back them into a strict genre corner! Kanami doesn't hold to a single genre giving rise to we Maidiac's saying Band-Maid is their own genre!
Another wonderful reaction, Miss Picc-olo ! If Band Maiko ever performs this song live, they will probably need your woodwind expertise. Be ready... You'll shortly see what I mean. By the way...I hope you look good as an apprentice Geisha...🤔😉🇯🇵
You should check out the live version of Matchless GUM, because Band Maid does B-sides better than most bands' singles. th-cam.com/video/VU05_NyA47I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Jov7OGzkr1CUg5h_
Band-Maiko is a Band-Maid alter ego. Fujiki (Saiki Atsumi) - lead vocals Hatoko (Miku Kobato) - rhythm guitar, vocals Kanoemi (Kanami Tōno) - lead guitar Umemisa (Misa) - bass Akatsuki (Akane Hirose) - drums They released an EP with six songs, "Secret Maiko Lips" and "Gioncho" have official videos. They sing in the Kyoto dialect, the language of Geisha, and wear Geisha's clothes. Band-Maiko is also Band-Maid's enemy.
Princess Nittpicc, since you have reacted to Wonderland, another one of my favorite two-fer videos is Manners/Black Hole from earlier in their careers. Talk about different grooves from two back-to-back songs. Black Hole is thir fastest song to date. Kanami asked Akane how many beats prr minute she could do. Akane told her about 185 BPM's. Kanami promptly wtote Black Hole with 220 BPM's.
I think it's safe that you are going to do more Band-Maid!😊. So I have a new band I just found that's fantastic. Hitsujibungako (Sheep Literature). They have done a few anime. Their new song is perfect Shoegaze, Addiction. Then the song More Than Words, it's the outro song for the 2nd season of Jujutsu Kaisen. I swear there's more bands from Japan than in the US right now.
This song was one of my wish list songs to see performed in person. Fortunately, that wish was fulfilled the fourth time I saw them in concert and it was amazing. The vocal harmonies in this one are among the best ever. I just wish Band-Maid would release a live video of this to TH-cam. Definitely a favorite of mine.
Great!. Definitely one of my favourites. Waiting with eagerness Band Maiko. Meanwhile... Trivia: The name of the ancient Japanese flute made of bamboo is shakuhachi...
Great dissection of this song... I have been saying this for about 8 years now.. Kanami Tono is a genius, her writing and composing skills are top tier. I could go into music theory and what Kanami does writing her music, but everyone here would be so bored. Again great reaction to my favorite band in the world today. ❤❤❤❤❤🕊️PO!!!!!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! this song is in my top 5 band-maid songs along with "Puzzle" "Flying High" "Rinne" "YURAGU" "Freezer" "Liberal" "Hate" "Hibana" and "YOLO"
As others have already commented, this is one of Akane's stand-out tracks (certainly one of my favs!). She's so in-the-pocket, she creates another pocket-in-the-pocket, and with so many drum patterns and styles. It's remarkable writing and technique. Thanks again, NittPic! ANOTHER great reaction! Oh, btw, you're gonna lose your s*** with "The Maikos". 🤣🕊
Here's something for you to do. Find the album version of PUZZLE (there's no MV), then watch the live version they released recently, finally this will take some searching...the acoustic version will make you cry. PUZZLE is a sad but beautiful song when you read the lyrics. Make it a single view of all three songs. You won't regret it.
Great reaction video. Loved the comments. IMHO Band-Maid songs have so much depth and complexity that they always sound fresh, revealing something new and different with each listen, as if I'm hearing it for the first time. The mellifluous vocals of Miku and Saiki harmonizing in the end never fail to bring tears to my eyes. Cheers!
You have just experienced one of a special Kanami solo and drop into a completely different genre of music moments. There are a few about- usually one or two on each album. Band-Maiko has a 7 song EP. All but one -Gion Cho, are re-arrangements of previous songs, with Gion Cho, a completely new original song with a slightly different atmosphere. Try it.
It took me a few listens to come to grips with this track but I really love it now. The rhymic shifts are dramatic and Akane is really driving it. The last 30 seconds is gold.
They all sync with Akane quite a bit, "Blooming" is my favorite for that when MISA matches 16th notes with Akane's double-kick. Missed by many reactors too, since they never mention it....along with the Miku/Saiki harmonies. Such a shame the video produces never show Kanami shredding at the end of the MV, they showed everyone else. How does this happen? LOVE the Miku/Saiki call and response after that breakdown.
I'VE NEVER HEARD A BAD BANDMAID SONG EVER.... I LITERALLY HAVE ALL OF THEIR SONGS ON MY SPOTIFY ....I ONLY HAVE EVERY BEATLES SONG NEXT TO THEM❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your insights and crack up laughing when you laugh, its bloody infectious. The band is especially fond of their princess fans and I hope you get to see them live!
That is exactly Band Maid....lemme 'splain.... the collage of sound they produce drags your ear around the composition....at any given moment, you may be drawn to any "color" in the soundscape they wish you to "see"....they are complete masters of this skill.....it makes it art....not just music....nice work again....thanks
Would love to have seen a full video of Akane's playing in this performance..The little glimps we get of her are so tantalizing....She's givin' some!..hehe...Long May They Reign!👑
I’ve been playing bass for just under 30 years now, and MISA has taken a place in my pantheon of bass heroes. Miyu from Asterism and Koga from Gacharic Spin are there too along with legends like Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Jaco, Geezer, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and a few others.
Listing to the final interlude, Miku & Saiki may have opposite personalities and singing styles but MY GODDESSES OF THE UNIVERSE can they make a beautiful sound together! (Saiki, on their singing (paraphrasing): "She has what i don't have and I have what she doesn't have"). Look up a short video, Band-Maid Practice Don't Let Me Down, when they go into the chorus!!!)
Yeah, that little lounge break in there, the ending...who does that? I'm happy to able to say there are some really great rock and metal bands these days, a whole bunch of them really, and from all over the world, that consistently blow my mind. BAND-MAID is right up there with the best of the best (too many different bands in too many different genres to really lock it down to just one number one for me...maybe if my tastes weren't so varied) at "so good I can hardly believe they're real."
This was a wonderful reaction! Now next week we need the reaction of the Band-Maiko version. It was necessary to watch this first so you could appreciate better the other version. I'll be expecting next week's video :D!!
I am so thankful to Band Maiko! They have brought so much more attention to this incredible song, one of my favorites! Thanks again for another great reaction! 🤘🤩🤘
You always picc :) up on so many little compositional/vocal/instrumental tricks that Band-Maid put into their songs. You'll love what happens in Secret Maiko Lips.
From genre to genre, any genre, Band Maid does it all. LOVE your enthusiasm to my favorite band, the best band I have ever seen or heard. Thanks for the react.
One thing I want to say is how awesome their recent work has been on Unseen World Etc. Miku's guitar playing has become so good I expect their next album dropping this year will be spectacular
One of the things that amazed me the most about this miraculous band, is that there will come a point where you think you fully appreciate the genius of their songwriting and arranging. You will be wrong. They're even better than what you think. This is even early-ish Band-Maid, and there is so much cool stuff going on musically that yeah, you're head kind of explodes. My favorite moment is when they come out of a blistering (where did that come from type) guitar solo right into a a tiny French cafe where a cabaret style singer sings for a couple of bars and then Akane starts pounding away on the toms while an echo-like call and response thing plays over the top. And then there are my other favorite parts, which is everything that came before that and after that - culminating in that glorious half time melody that sounds like 200 year old Kyoto melody over hard rock. God I love this band.
now you should listen to secret Maiko lips, done by the only band who can stand up to the Maids, BAND-MAIKO, the counter persona of the Maids drenched in Japanese culture, i think you might enjoy it, it started as an April fools joke, then went viral so they made an EP
Scrumptiousness......Best word ever for a Band Maid description. LoL. Was it just me or did it feel like Akane changed the time about a 100 times in this song ?????? Love IT !!!!!!
I know you can't just do Band Maid, wait! Why not?! I love everything they do, since 2019 when I first came across them it has rescued music for me from the "oldies" doldrums and hating the current pop stuff. I can't get enough of them.
Band Maid is sneaky prog if you break them down. I mean in this song by the last chorus you think you’ve seen all the changes and genre mixing. And then they end with a different drum pattern and melody. Just well constructed music.
THis is still one of the maidiacs favorite songs. Thanks for the great reaction (we all felt the same way when first hearing this gem) and the wonderful analysis of the song. BTW, those pretenders, Band Maiki, do a decent job with this song.
Thank you for reacting to my all time favourite Band Maid song. Your breakdown was awesome and very informative, so you have my sub. I can see your genuine admiration for Band Maid by your very emotive reaction to parts of this song that hit me hard as well.
Another great reaction NittPicc! Thank you for making Sunday a fun day! I know you are really going to enjoy the Band Maiko version of this song! We would love to see your reaction to that as well! You are always so much fun to watch!
Just look at the epic banner they have behind Akane! The picture is from the album Just Bring It - Miku and Saiki drinking tea at a table with the moon in the background. Everything forms a skull. Such a cool idea and I really want that banner!
The Band MaIKO stuff is great. You need to react to Gion-cho too along with Secret My Lips in the Band Maiko format. I think you'll really like it. By the way, both of my parents were music school graduates (dad had his Master's and my mother would have if she'd taken her boards). Everyone in my family played classical instruments and my older sister and I both played up to the university level. I've played classical, jazz, pop, all sorts of things and I know from my personal experience that Band Maid is special, especially when it comes to composition because they keep upping the bar. I really like your classical perspective too and appreciate your support of this great group.
The first time I watched Band-Maid was the video for "Warning!". Initially I experienced like an auditory overload. It was like so many things happen at the same time. But I was adrenalized nonetheless. So I re-listened again and I got addicted ever since. And Akane, she's a monster on the drums. The "double bass" pattern that we often hear, many times she just used her right foot, hitting toe and heel similar to Iron Maiden's drummer but in much faster tempo. Maybe that's why she eats so much 😂
You have opened up Pandora's box. Band Maid really does do everything from super energetic to "lofi". You have such a journey ahead of you I actually envy you. Try some of the acoustic songs like Puzzle where Saiki and Kanami play alone. Or Sayonakidori with Miku, Akane and Misa are playing acoustic. The soft side of a very hard rocking band.
Last track off the superb Just Bring It album. Quite frankly, one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The first four tracks are Don't You Tell Me, Puzzle, Moratorium, and YOLO - perhaps the best four track start to any album ever. And the other 9 tracks are fabulous. For example, Take Me Higher!! is track 7. You will have to react to all of these songs, Nic, and preferably the live versions.
After that, can you consider doing a twin video reaction in one shot? Giovanni and after that the instrumental only version would be great! .... I look forward to your Band Maid reactions every Sunday! Also, a lot of times, when you think Alane's doing a double pedal, she's doing it with one foot! There6a drum cam of Akane in the song Sense where you can see this clearly.
Now this song, this performance, goes up to eleven, no question :) Been a while since I listened to this and I'm impressed at how good the barefoot assassin's bass sounds in this. Someone else I watched commented on the fact that one can always hear the bass in Band-Maid songs, something rare in other bands. Speaking of low-fi, they have done that in my opinion, you'll hear that in the acoustic sessions. edit- I just watched The Champ of Medium watching this (fine chap, worth a look) and he pointed out something I hadn't noticed before- Kanami's shredding solo is almost identical to the solo she does in "Domination". Interesting.
I think it is time for you to check out the songs with Miku on lead vocal😁 just to get a really different flavour. But just as good. Sayonakidori is fantastic. There is a very beautiful acoustic version of it too. And we have the older but very charmig Rock in me. And Time is a great and very catchy song😀
Did you already stumble over Band-Maiko with 'Secret Maiko Lips'? Should be quite interesting for you to review, and for historical reasons going ahead with it around April 1st.

Great Comment 👍👍🕊️
Excellent comment!👏👏
Spot on Russell, songwriting genious at every level.

Akane sure does drives the song in fifth gear with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floorboards.Go Band Maid!
Secret Maiko Lips is the most elaborate and well produced April Fool's prank you'll ever hear. The addition of the traditional instruments and the stunning trad costumes make that video a jaw dropper.
Hi Princess! I like your emotions in your Reaktion. Video! Greetings Ben❤
I don't know of any other band that turned a April fools gag into a million seller
To add to this, I wanna say Saiki actually sang this version in a Kansai dialect which is an “accent” of Japanese that’s more traditional as well
"Sometimes when they solo my brain shuts off and I fan girl too hard and I forget everything."
Same girl. Hard same. 😜
there's one comment on this song/mv that's burned in my mind that perfectly describes this -- 'secret my lips' is peak songwriting brilliance and contains all elements that evoke all kinds of emotion -- tension, build-up, climax, bliss and fulfillment.
it is a 4our-minute prog rock song
That's right, this is a very rare song for me that gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, classic and legendary is how I describe this rock song.

This band causes so many reactors to cry. I never had a drummer make me cry except when Akane was captured in their Chicago tour closer crying.

your reaction whenever MISA does non-normal-Bassist things is hilarious

The whole "Just Bring It" album is a masterpiece.
100% ... I think Just Bring It! is the best hard rock album since Appetite for Destruction.
This is the song that solidified Akane as a badass drummer for me!! Her skills are tremendously good! Band-Maid is on a level on their own, best rock group on the planet!!
I dunno what it is, but Misa looks even more badass in super short sleeves.
Also, you want lo-fi? They did a whole acoustic concert that was amazing!

Thanks so much nice reaction!
Their smiles & music make me happy every day!
My 2 favorite parts of the song:
1. Guitar solo to Jazz bridge to hardcorr breakdown.
2. Dance beat outro
I told you! A little jazz like rainbow sprinkles on a sunday. Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things. ♥♥♥♥♥ Now time for Band-Maiko
Yes, my favorite Sunday activity!

Indeed! Kanami is pure genius 🔥❤️
Nice Reaction ! Hmmmm.....Band Maiko...be prepared for your world to go from Black and White to Technicolor !
I'll be expecting next week's video :D!!
and then, Gion-cho
@@MichaelNolenOh, yes please...
Yes! Yes! Yes!
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃
I can't wait for Secret Maiko Lips reaction.
Wonderful analysis--thanks! I was a bit worried you had blacked out during Kanami's dive bomb. I'm thinking Band Maid Wednesdays might be in order.
Misa putting in flavor text-type bass riffs 😊
NittPicc beatboxing to Band-Maid. Absolutely made my day!
This is also my top 2, so now you listened to Wonderland and Secret my lips
Band Maid at its' best. I love this song 🙂
How do you make the same song twice but better the second time? do it the Band Maid way or just give it the Maiko to do it,
now you should listen to secret Maiko lips, done by the only band who can stand up to the Maids, BAND-MAIKO, the counter persona of the Maids drenched in Japanese culture, i think you might enjoy it, it started as an April fools joke, then went viral so they made an EP
Scrumptiousness......Best word ever for a Band Maid description. LoL. Was it just me or did it feel like Akane changed the time about a
100 times in this song ?????? Love IT !!!!!!
I know you can't just do Band Maid, wait! Why not?! I love everything they do, since 2019 when I first came across them it has rescued music for me from the "oldies" doldrums and hating the current pop stuff. I can't get enough of them.
Band Maid is sneaky prog if you break them down. I mean in this song by the last chorus you think you’ve seen all the changes and genre mixing. And then they end with a different drum pattern and melody. Just well constructed music.
I can honestly say Band-Maid are my favorite maids 😉
THis is still one of the maidiacs favorite songs. Thanks for the great reaction (we all felt the same way when first hearing this gem) and the wonderful analysis of the song. BTW, those pretenders, Band Maiki, do a decent job with this song.
I love the way you let a section play through then you go back, replay and do a talk through. It makes it easier to understand what you’re describing.
Thank you!💖🙏🏽💖
Thank you for reacting to my all time favourite Band Maid song.
Great song! Great reaction as usual! Thanks for making our Sundays much better!
Maybe that's why she eats so much 😂
this song is one of the 30 songs in my top 5 BAND MAID songs lol
You've discovered the "conversation". The maids do not duel, they converse.
Your trip will be a little longer, there is a lot to discover in japanise girl rock/metal section :D
Those evil Maiko rip-off artists up next!! Can’t wait!! 😜
From Japn
Hi your reaction is best!!! 😉many many many👍👍👍👍👍
I really enjoy hearing knowledgeable people gush about music I love.
Akane....Freedom live, please.
Most reactors don't do Giovanni, probably because there's no official video. Shame, it's a great song (and one of their proggiest, IMO).
Now this song, this performance, goes up to eleven, no question :)
Been a while since I listened to this and I'm impressed at how good the barefoot assassin's bass sounds in this.
BAND-MAID / Endless Story (Official Live Video) - just came out 2 hours ago!
Did you already stumble over Band-Maiko with 'Secret Maiko Lips'? Should be quite interesting for you to review, and for historical reasons going ahead with it around April 1st.
Queen Kong on the drums.
When Band-Maid slams into singing and harmonies...I cannot wait for you to react to Blooming
