    Even the old grey Vega iGPU in my 5800H gaming laptop gave me some pleasant surprises. I sometimes forgot I was playing dynamic 1080p 60fps medium settings in fighting games and even clamping down TDP away from the wall could give me a adequate hour of Prey 2017 before going back to Netflix with enough gas in the tank.

      It is often overlooked. I mean even us, we mainly test recent games, but with so many of us playing games that aren't AAA or even just older titles work remarkably well even on the integrated GPUs

    Good review. Was a bit surprised by how much power the igpu draws. Looks like battery life using that isn't too much better than using dgpu as you noted. Please do this for the upcoming 780M and one of nvidias 4000 series mobile cards as they seem quite power efficient. Even if early leaks suggest the new 780m is only 20% better.

    • @danavidal8774

      When pushed it will draw every inch of power until maxing out the APU but if he choosed to limit the framerate to a solid rock 30 fps efficiency would have show and power consumption would have decrease greatly

    • @tomis181
      @tomis181 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danavidal8774 Good points. Wonder how much power at locked 30fps the apu and dgpu would draw though. Might the dgpu be more efficient? Or at locked 60fps. Since those are what single player games are commonly designed for.

      Me too, to be honest. I was expecting something different. I will do this more in-depth for the upcoming 780m. That is a good point about limiting the fps. I will test this for the next one!

    Apologies for this long post, I hope you won't get bored half way through!
    I noticed your latest article about the Anker 737 on your website before coming to this video, which made me think of this.
    I own a ROG X13 Supernova (2021). I love this laptop as I can travel light with it but it has its quirks.
    I like to carry a single, light power supply to charge all my devices. I have a 100W from Anker, a 70W from Ugreen, a 65W from Anker and a 20W from Anker, all with at least a USB-C output. I'll pick the one I need when traveling depending on the occasion.
    All of them do charge the laptop. If the power is less than some limit (around 40W), the little charging icon in the Taskbar won't show up, but the battery level will still go up (if the laptop power consumption is low enough). This is all good.
    The problem is as follows:
    100W charger: works well in any config.
    70W charger: works well when the charger only serves the laptop. However when another device is connected to the charger, the laptop frequency drops to 300MHz.
    65W charger: always 300MHz
    20W charger: always 300MHz.
    That's fine if the computer is turned off as it charges normally. But if I need to use the laptop, I can't work with 300MHz.
    Have you noticed this issue as well?

    • @NotebookcheckReviews
      @NotebookcheckReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      While we haven't done a test with 3rd party chargers, it seems like your chargers can simply not supply enough wattage in certain scenarios.

    • @julienvm
      @julienvm ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NotebookcheckReviews I'd love to see other people comment on that MHz loss as it's the first time I see this. And it's the only visible effect: the screen works normally, all the i/o, etc.. The computer should rely on its battery regardless of the charger wattage and thus, it should not affect MHz.

      @NotebookcheckReviews I had the 2021 model, and it was really good until the XG Mobile physically got stuck to the port, requiring a mail-in repair to fix the motherboard (my data was safe though).
      The Asus ROG Flow x13, Zephyrus G14, and Alienware's upcoming m16, m18, and x16 are the only good Ryzen 7000 options right now, which is pathetic for OEMs to do. I mean, I don't want 3 - 5 hours of light use on battery just to get slightly better performance than Ryzen 7040/7045. This is only going to worsen OEMs sales. I mean, I want competition, but I don't see that this year...

    I have the X16 and I usually game on the iGPU(I mostly play indie games though). It reduces fan noise drastically and temps, making the laptop quieter. For more demanding games, I don't think it's worth it, unless you are running on battery. Going under 60fps in games feels bad, at least for me.
    Maybe it's worth mention that is not possible to use an external monitor on iGPU mode.

    The 2024 models for this are gonna be sick. Rumors point to a 40CU variant of strix point in 2024. If true, we would have RTX 4060 performance level for an iGPU. It would make the x13 into a beast.

      @cameronbosch1213 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The iGPU is good for things like Intel's Quick Sync would be good for (as long as you don't use Adobe's shitty apps) and I would say that with Ryzen 7000 things would be even better, however I cannot find any good 16/18 inch Ryzen 7000 laptops that are not from Alienware...

  • @jesusbarrera6916

    what wasd the performance in battery testing, because most times the NVIDIA GPUs will cap themselves because of the lack of power (although that might not be a problem here)
    and was the 680M configured to have good RAM allocation and power settings
    it's still dissapointing that even whit great iGPUs there isn't simple software solutions to change this, hopefully ASUS does at one point because their Armoury Crate is pretty good
    great video, it's hard to find comparison on laptops with their 2 GPUs
