I 100% would close my eyes and buy this laptop but Jesus the 4080 model is so expensive even here in the US. $2800 is absurd, I get it's an all new machine but these laptops are being priced $500 too high. I am going to wait until the 4080 model drops to $2K, very shocked that Asus didn't think the pricing over more carefully.
Thumbs up. Especially as you have clearly explained the noise disturbance even during low performance tasks. Most time I browse and use the laptop for writing. Otherwise it would be perfect. Wondering if this is really fixable with a software upgrade?
I hope so; in the end, it would be a fan curve. I can not imagine that something on the motherboard in that area needs to be cooled actively, even in low-load scenarios. But in the end, I do not know, but I am hoping ;)
idk if the average/max temps from the cpu/gpu/hotspot are not reviewed on purpose... i've seen this review behaviour with some reviewers (not just NBC review) specially when a machine runs extremly hot inside (like those times with AW). i was expecting everything said here from the CES first impressions. the only thing missing was the component temps and again... the only thing missing is the temps...

I think the proper config for this laptop is the 185H + RTX 4080. You get the better hardware, 32GB RAM, and the Vapor Chamber cooling system. Of course, it is more expensive, but at $2,700 USD, it's a lot of computer for the money and these tend to go on sale shortly after release.
Very good and balanced review. This made me buy the G16 - it's not the perfect gaming machine, but it's perfect for professionals who game on the side and are tired of lugging around chunky gaming laptops everywhere
It is the macbook pro of windows….. In giving you less performance for more money. Honestly, I hope asus reduces prices and/or provide 32gb ram as base if they are going for the soldered ram version, and at least 2tb ssd storage for that price. Asus should be providing excellent gaming/creator laptops at close to competitive prices
Well, Asus has always been charging a bit of a premium, so naturally they will do so with their most premium product. And for most config, but the RTX4050, 32GB is the baseline in the RAM department.
@@NotebookcheckReviews yeah they shouldve gone with the 32gb ram from the base model itself if they were aiming this for creators. It is a beautiful machine, but at the same time, asus should be mindful of the competiton that is windows laptops and not macbooks, and thus should command a slight premium above them in terms of performance, not outright outpricing themselves from the rest of the market
Why are companies trying to make a GAMING laptop as thin as possible, this is absurd. I have a gaming Dream Machines with 4070. It weighs 2.5 kg and looks solid and reliable and most importantly it does not overheat

I recently bought the 2023 Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 with the R7 7840HS, 32GB Ram and an RTX 4050 for only 1080€ of Lenovos Website. For me this is the perfect Allrounder. I do a lot of video editing with Resolve and some gaming on the side. A brilliant IPS Panel and the weight of only 1.93kg were the things that sold me in the end.
The screen wobble is a huge peeve of mine. I had to return laptops before based on screen wobble. Thank you for showing this, I'll have to skip this laptop series.
Alex, the fan noise test only helps you to hear the type of noise, not whether it's loud. In fact, it sounds extremely quiet compared to how loud the rest of the video is. So please include dB values from your tests or make us of the website data! That's what I'm always missing here.
Well, we got that info on the website already. And we use the video to give a more of a subjective impression. I will see if I find a way to include the dB numbers in the video! 💪
@@NotebookcheckReviews Yes, and I visit your website daily as well, but I love to watch your videos without interruptions and ejoy every part of it and not just scanning through :) I totally get the subjective impressions but this would open doors to "this model is perhaps 2-3 dB louder, but as you can hear here, it's a subtle woosh wihtout hight frequencies, so for me it's better than model y" Thank you, would be great! 😍

I don't think I'd like it either, but for long-term durability it is probably great. That ability to flex is what prevents things from cracking and breaking if properly engineered. Watch a heavily loaded semi-trailer going down the road. You'll be amazed how much it flexes and bends. It's supposed to, that's a good thing.
Between different reviews and people on reddit, the battery life is reported to be around 4 hours, around 6 hours, around 9.5 hours, etc. What is the actual battery life is for basic tasks under the appropriate settings?
I’m kinda wanting to change my y540 17 inch legion for this but I’m afraid of the lower display size and I’m afraid the resolution will make things so small I won’t be able to see clearly. Also I’d still opt for the IPS screen - unfortunately not sure what configs go with these, in my country in Europe there’s only 3 models so far. It’s so confusing. All with oled.
G16 is departing from gaming laptop to creative laptop. They really shouldn't have focused so much on thickness if the device . Having a thicker chassis to ship with upgradable ram , better thermals so that GPU can run at a more sensible 140-150W while being cooler and quieter would have been better , especially considering this thing costs more than 2000 Euros . You wouldn't want your gaming laptop performing only at 70% potential when you pay the full price premium.
The ASUS Strix lineup is thicker and meant more for getting the best performance but it's a lot heavier than the Zephyrus. People who are buying the Zephyrus lineup are more likely to use it for the portability for school or work purposes so it makes sense to keep it thin and light. But I don't like how the RAM is soldered and the huge price increase compared to last year's version.
@@amitkulkarni3922 ofc ik that , they could keep the same thickness as g15 and the laptop would still be pretty thin while not making the existing compromises
Ordered two G16 4090 : Got a refund for both... Why two you'll ask ? Well... first one the touchpad was making an horrible sound even with a light tapping just to move the cursor... so I got a refund for this one and ordered another unit. The second one the touchpad behavied better and I decided to test some games : - Baldur's gate 3 : huge framerate drop compared to my previous M16 2023 (4090) with the same resolution and the highest settings : never going above 50 fps in Act 3 - Overwatch 2 : perfomed well around 150fps average - PUBG : huge framerate drop in big towns (40fps) although I wasn't playing with the highest settings... never seen this with other 4090 gaming laptops... Pros : - Incredible design, premium feel - Light - Speakers are the best I've ever heard on a laptop - Oled screen Cons : - Perfomance... going under 140w TGP with the 4090 hit really hard... - Asus QC is still the same in 2024..it's russian roulette - I suffered from a 3 hours headache due to Oled after using it on battery... apparently on battery a feature to avoid this is disabled... got a warning from Armoury Crate. - Soldered ram even though it's faster lpddrx ram - Cpu temps aren't that good for this new CPU.. I don't know if my performance problems were related to the 115w TGP while I was playing I've used manual mode to set it to 105w + 20w boost and the GPU wasn't reaching higher than 80/90w... or if it's due to the new Core Ultra 9 185, mine was reaching 90c temps in PUBG and 95c+ in BG3... classical laptop temps but I thought this new CPU was supposed to generate less heat. At that price tag (4700+ €) it's a big no for me, and it's a shame because this was the perfect laptop but It's more optimized toward a creator usage rather than a gaming laptop. I'm ordering the new Razer Blade 16 with the 4090 and Oled... will see :)
So I currently have an old dell g series gaming laptop for 2019 and it has served me very well being able to keep up with games however I got the zephyrus and for me everything about it is an upgrade it's more portable which is what I need it's quieter and has way more power I love this thing.
Zephyrus G16 or Yoga Pro 9 ? Both with Ultra Core 9, RTX4060, 32gb/1tb, 2400Є. Yoga is with 3.2k touch mini-led. I have the Yoga but thinking of returning it for G16 (better build, looks). Only scared of that third fan. I would use it for music production. Thanks!
In Italy Asus forces you to get the 4080 variant in order to be able to get 32gb of ram. This is what will make me go with a different laptop, such a shame. I don't need so much power on the gpu side (which is also useless cause of thermal throttling) but I need the ram because of my job. Apparently the only way to get more ram is spending a lot more money for a gpu that I don't need and that drains my battery faster... Really unwise move to not provide the user with more choice, lost my purchase and probably many others that will go with the yoga
That is indeed a weird move. But price aside, the 4080 is a much more capable GPU, especially if you use it for work. But yeah, 32GB for a premium notebook should be standard in 2024!
I think it is wrong to compare 155H against other those laptops but instead 185H cpu (there are configs for 185H with rtx1070 + 32gb ram) which has higher clocks and we would really see if there is throttling
@@NotebookcheckReviewsjust received my 185h with rtx4070 - my verdict good performance but just everything ruined by fan noise, cpu is just incredibly inefficient comparing to MacBooks, advise for all who can wait - wait till intel goes with 2nm node to see if it is at least as good as m1 family processors. Due to the lower wattage at 90 watts on the 14 inch I unfortunately can’t say I would want to get it, I have a good one already but a very small compact and powerful laptop like the G14 would be amazing, but with the lowered wattage the G16 is the probably the way to go, but definitely not worth buying it with anything other than a 4060 or 4070.
The price is pretty crazy considering that Lenovo offers the new Legion 7i with 14900HX and more powerful 4070 for cheaper. It's true this is a bit thinner, but 0.3 cm is really not a lot. I guess you're really paying for the OLED, tho that refresh rate makes very little sense considering the gaming performance...you probably don't reach it even in e-sports games like LoL,DOTA,CSGO....perhaps there's more to it when it comes to the 4080 versions with ultra 9, but so far I'm tempted to order the Legion ( as soon as some reviews drop and I see how the thermal system performs ).
@@NotebookcheckReviews thx, looking forward to the G14 review as I prefer the smaller size. If it doesn’t get hot and has good battery life, that would be my cue to change from a MacBook Pro to the G14

Not a gamer , but hoping to run some engineering/architecture programs. Trying to decide between G16 RTX4070 Ultra7 vs G16 RTX4080 Ultra 9 ?? . Aware of the fan differences and wondering if it is such of a big deal to take into consideration when deciding which one to go for
I have yet to try the 4080 or 4090 options. Apparently there is also a BIOS fix coming for the lower-end SKUs, but we also havent been able to test that yet.
Amazing review as usual so sad you don’t have millions of subs as your reviews are non sponsored for the majority of the times . I bought the labtop but with core 9 ultra . Armory crate FYI doesn’t align with windows profile thus giving power limits differently each run that’s why every reviewer reviews are different . Trust me uninstall my asus app after that uninstall armory crate and install Ghelper . I can confirm it has tamed this machine to be an amazing machine . It makes it run quiter as you can do your own custom curve fan , and power limits are now fully unlocked .
An RTX 4070 laptop GPU with a max TGP of 100W is no different than another one with a max TGP of 140W FYI. RTX 4050 4060 and 4070 laptop GPUs just run this way due to a voltage limit.
The problem with this laptop isn't the TGP. It's the limited and non-upgradable RAM and small amount of storage. The excessive noise. And the stiffled performance. This thing is kneecapped compared to last year's.
@@NotebookcheckReviews you're right about this, but what made me thinking that they have not dropped this configration to thier online website.. I also wanted to ask the bios update that intel dropped about a week or 10 days ago, did it change any about performance or stability? and if you have any numbers before could you give us a comparison to see what kind of improvments has been applied
If I am choosing for portability and travelling on a plane, I will choose the Steam Deck. The fan is the best, battery life is the best, comfort in the hands is best.
macbook pro 16 m3 max vs zephyrus g16 4090 version., which would you advice? if gaming isnt the main thing (i have a slight preference to windows but frustrated by the battery life)
I would personally go for the G16 since I am fine with my laptop making a bit of noise, and I do not really need crazy long battery life. I think the screen on the G16 is much more flexible, especially for content creation (even tho it is less bright than the MBPs) and performance you get form the 4090 mostly beats out the M3 Max.
Thank you for the reply , i decided to indeed keep it mainly for balance between power n portability also that most of my work software is not available on mac or runs very clunky. So for orthodontists , dentists n lab technicians this is probably best current laptop
@@steffdia7080 oh thanks got to compare that to last year's M16 2023 4090 model and find out which one I should invest my money on because for the same pricing locally in Australia I can get the M16 imported from newegg with 96GB of ram... @@igordrukov4776 I do have the miniLED and I think it's brilliant. If performance is very similar though, I'd prefer a glossy OLED panel. @@NotebookcheckReviews However, this is also labeled as an ROG product. IMHO this should be gaming focused. Not a work computer that can game which is basically how this new one is being marketed...I also disagree and being that it has the same moniker it is just a redesigned version but still should be compared to last year's Zephyrus models. Just my opinion as someone who was REALLY looking forward to the new models this year. I also like ASUS better than Razer but the stats make it hard to justify similar prices (I mean decent price differences but not enough to justify the loss of power).

@@NotebookcheckReviews thanks but I have a question, why do all the reviews of the G14/16 feel all the same beside yours, I feel like everyone got sponsored
I am not an engineer, but even cheap chips need space ... and I assume that the absolute majority of users buying similar machines would go for 32 GB. So they might have optimised their motherboard design for 32 gigs, rather than trying to bend over backwards for a config just a very small number of users will actually buy?! Just an assumption tho!
@NotebookcheckReviews 64 GB would be a big help for some users. Some applications can really make use of RAM, like Adobe Lightroom and some heavy duty video editing, which this laptop can certainly handle, but it could handle it better if it had that option.
is it worth it to buy this at the announced price points or should one could go for a razer blade 16 which packs more performance and better upgradability ?
Believe it or not, the Blade 16 isn't very good in that regard either. It can't take dual-sided SSDs although it does have two RAM slots. If you really want a good 16 inch laptop with good upgradability, I honestly can't think of any with no compromise apart from Framework, although there's no Nvidia option for that at the moment (good for Linux support though).
@hassanhazem5116 Yes. Otherwise, why not just buy a Mac, which is bottom of the barrel in terms of upgradability, or the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, which now has all of the RAM soldered _on a 16 inch high performance laptop._ At least start with 32 GB of RAM with an option for 64 GB!
The Blade is really good this year. I am testing it right now, and it might be their best Blade yet. If you want a premium and sleek machine, then it might be the one to get if you are ok with the thicker chassis. Otherwise, the Legion Pro 7s are great as well, but unfortunately, it's a massive downgrade in the screen department.

And had you turn on Ray Tracing and Path Tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty?
I 100% would close my eyes and buy this laptop but Jesus the 4080 model is so expensive even here in the US. $2800 is absurd, I get it's an all new machine but these laptops are being priced $500 too high. I am going to wait until the 4080 model drops to $2K, very shocked that Asus didn't think the pricing over more carefully.
The RTX4080 in Europe is $3850, absolute fckng insanity.
They never do

Economics 101. Devalued currency causes inflation. At least that is what is happening in the U.S., regardless if folks want to admit it or not.
We'll have to wait for Jarrod on this one.
As I mentioned, we have much more info about this in our written review:

I think the proper config for this laptop is the 185H + RTX 4080. You get the better hardware, 32GB RAM, and the Vapor Chamber cooling system. Of course, it is more expensive, but at $2,700 USD, it's a lot of computer for the money and these tend to go on sale shortly after release.
Very good and balanced review. This made me buy the G16 - it's not the perfect gaming machine, but it's perfect for professionals who game on the side and are tired of lugging around chunky gaming laptops everywhere
This!
When is the G14 review coming?
He stated it's coming at the end of the video
Why are companies trying to make a GAMING laptop as thin as possible, this is absurd.
I have a gaming Dream Machines with 4070. It weighs 2.5 kg and looks solid and reliable and most importantly it does not overheat
I've watched a couples of reviews for the new zephyrus laptops ... why does no one seem to give any concrete explanations about the temperatures, how hot the cpu and gpu gets, how hot do the keyboards get ....
As I mentioned in the video, we have all of this in our written review. Thermal Cam shots, detailed chassis temps, stress test results, power consumption etc.:

I recently bought the 2023 Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 with the R7 7840HS, 32GB Ram and an RTX 4050 for only 1080€ of Lenovos Website. For me this is the perfect Allrounder. I do a lot of video editing with Resolve and some gaming on the side. A brilliant IPS Panel and the weight of only 1.93kg were the things that sold me in the end.
The screen wobble is a huge peeve of mine. I had to return laptops before based on screen wobble. Thank you for showing this, I'll have to skip this laptop series.
I agree, the screen wobble is just silly and cheap. I may wait for the redesign of the MSI stealth 16..
🤡 🤡 🤡
Alex, the fan noise test only helps you to hear the type of noise, not whether it's loud. In fact, it sounds extremely quiet compared to how loud the rest of the video is.
So please include dB values from your tests or make us of the website data! That's what I'm always missing here.
Well, we got that info on the website already. And we use the video to give a more of a subjective impression.
I will see if I find a way to include the dB numbers in the video! 💪
@@NotebookcheckReviews Yes, and I visit your website daily as well, but I love to watch your videos without interruptions and ejoy every part of it and not just scanning through :) I totally get the subjective impressions but this would open doors to "this model is perhaps 2-3 dB louder, but as you can hear here, it's a subtle woosh wihtout hight frequencies, so for me it's better than model y"
Thank you, would be great!
😍
It looks like the screen wobbles a ton when you are simply gaming using the wsad keys. I noticed it wobbled alot when you typed on the keyboard as well. This seems like a big distraction and just concern for long term durability..
What is the actual battery life is for basic tasks under the appropriate settings?
will there be a vid about the u9 185h?

@@NotebookcheckReviews is this laptop worth it I bought it for $1,699.99 on sale at best buy. Original price is $1,999.99.
Ordered two G16 4090 : Got a refund for both...
Why two you'll ask ? Well... first one the touchpad was making an horrible sound even with a light tapping just to move the cursor... so I got a refund for this one and ordered another unit.
The second one the touchpad behavied better and I decided to test some games :
- Baldur's gate 3 : huge framerate drop compared to my previous M16 2023 (4090) with the same resolution and the highest settings : never going above 50 fps in Act 3
- Overwatch 2 : perfomed well around 150fps average
- PUBG : huge framerate drop in big towns (40fps) although I wasn't playing with the highest settings... never seen this with other 4090 gaming laptops...
Pros :
- Incredible design, premium feel
- Light
- Speakers are the best I've ever heard on a laptop
- Oled screen
Cons :
- Perfomance... going under 140w TGP with the 4090 hit really hard...
- Asus QC is still the same in 2024..it's russian roulette
- I suffered from a 3 hours headache due to Oled after using it on battery... apparently on battery a feature to avoid this is disabled... got a warning from Armoury Crate.
- Soldered ram even though it's faster lpddrx ram
- Cpu temps aren't that good for this new CPU..
I'm ordering the new Razer Blade 16 with the 4090 and Oled... will see :)
Thanks for sharing. I will hold off on this laptop for now.
thankyou for the video Mr. Alex . The info you provided was very thorough and I am definitely going to purchase the laptop for sure

How do you think the 4060 version of this would be in comparison?
Good review,I’m looking to buy a G16 or G14 when they drops
G16 is better
Thanks!
Is there speculation when it will be on sale in the UK?
@@NotebookcheckReviews yes I know but I don't think the capped power limit would make it shine very much
I think it is wrong to compare 155H against other those laptops but instead 185H cpu (there are configs for 185H with rtx1070 + 32gb ram) which has higher clocks and we would really see if there is throttling
True, but for now we did not get our hands on any notebooks with the 185H ...

Love the comprehensive reviews. Any chance we might get Asus Zenbook 14 OLED review with intel core ultra 7 chip?
Thank you for the kind words. And yes, that review is coming!
As a secondary device,, the G14 would be my personal pick. It is very portable and performs on par with the G16.
Did you flip the left and right ports?

True. Especially for 4060 and 4070, max TDP of 140w only get about 5% higher performance than those with max TDP 100w.
The problem with this laptop isn't the TGP. It's the limited and non-upgradable RAM and small amount of storage. The excessive noise. And the stiffled performance. This thing is kneecapped compared to last year's.
If it is possible to flash the Gpu bios, then I would buy the Rtx 4090

I have heard Just Josh and Jarrod’s Tech complain about high pitched fan noise on the G14.
I feel like, since the ram is soldered…. there should be a 64GB option. No doubt at a hefty price but I think it should exist.
Bearing in mind Apple offers 128GB of RAM if you have the money then it is a bit disappointing as 32GB may not be enough for some.
macbook pro 16 m3 max vs zephyrus g16 4090 version., which would you advice? if gaming isnt the main thing (i have a slight preference to windows but frustrated by the battery life)
I would personally go for the G16 since I am fine with my laptop making a bit of noise, and I do not really need crazy long battery life.

Memory chips are super cheap now, using 32g as maximum is a very bad decision..
@@cameronbosch1213 but for the razer blade 16 top end performance is upgradability really important?
@hassanhazem5116 Yes. Otherwise, why not just buy a Mac, which is bottom of the barrel in terms of upgradability, or the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, which now has all of the RAM soldered _on a 16 inch high performance laptop._ At least start with 32 GB of RAM with an option for 64 GB!
The Blade is really good this year. I am testing it right now, and it might be their best Blade yet.
