I grabbed one of these a few weeks back and I'm loving it. Super compact, doesn't need much power, and runs Linux shockingly well for being a new laptop. My only gripes with it are not being able to control the VRAM allocation within the bios and not being able to add more RAM, even if it was a secondary slower channel.
you don't need to allocate VRAM to it (I'm 99,9% sure)
run "sudo dmesg | grep -i GTT"
that's "dynamically allocated VRAM"
eh it's preinstalled linux?
@@kokizzu No, it didn't have Linux preinstalled. I installed Manjaro on it because I hate Windows 11 and discovered it worked very well.
Generally , AMD chips works very well w/ linux 👍
@@techjunkie1815 AMD is great for Linux, I've just had issues with wifi/audio drivers with other devices and this one didn't have any which is fantastic.
$1250 is insane. For that price you can get a laptop with identical / better specs and an actual GPU. A quick scan shows Acer Predator w/ i7 13700HX and RTX 4060 coming in at $1100. Another Lenovo w/ Ryzen 7640HS and RTX 4060 for $1000. So many other options that include mid-range CPUs w/ 4050 or 3050ti for under $800. Phoenix series APU's are great but should never be priced this high.
Agreed, but your example sucks, you are literally comparing a laptop so chunky that it is barely portable with this, so take some slim laptop as an example, not this one
U can get m2 MBA lol
yeah, youre better off getting a ROG Ally, Legion Go, Ayaneo Kun or even TJD10.1 for that price. And the 32gb/4070 is overpriced as well. Wait for a sale
Dude. Don't by an Acer.
it is also touch screen...
I bet AMD is going to make igpus more popular among devices like handhelds and laptops in the coming years
I wish they gave the same attention to desktop APUs. You can make a killer and very small SSFPC setup with an RDNA3 iGPU.
@@Andorski probably when Steam machines become a thing again, they'll see the demand rise and will start taking desktop APUs seriously again
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 I would assume if Valve were to take another crack at Steam Machines they would use mobile processors; it would essentially be a more powerful Steam Deck running at a high wattage and no battery/screen. Current gaming miniPCs are fairly powerful, small, and comparatively priced to consoles.
You would lose the DIY and repairability of desktop PCs, but I doubt that is something Valve would prioritize. They'll just do what they are currently doing with the Steam Deck and sell spare parts.
They will have to quit being so stingy with the gpu cores on their apus below their top sku if they want that
bruh they are already popular lots of aya neo one explayer gpd steam deck rog ally and so on they all use igpus what next is handheld with dedicated gpu or stronger igpus
This laptop looks sweet. The price point is too high but definitely tempting and worth keeping an eye out for deals.
Iirc it went down to 899
I think its worth it for the display, because again this is just a creative centric laptop like the other flow x series laptops
It hit 699 at Best Buy if you are still looking
@@AJoshawott yeap I saw that deal on bb website last night I'm jumping on it now lol
Writing this comment using the 32GB\4070 variant of the x13 :)
It's a great laptop, very portable. I'm using it in tent mode, with a wireless mouse and keyboard.
The screen in the higher tier models is better, but if you don't need 32gb of ram nor a dedicated gpu, the base model is quite affordable.
Edit: Consider removing Asus' software and install 'ghelper' instead.
hi, how much does a Laptop variant of 4070/4090 differ from the desktop version in terms of CUDA and Tensor Cores and obviously, by performance?
@@abc_cbaby performance it depends on the laptop, nvidia has ruined laptop gpus so much that the performance of one 4070m can be equal to another laptop's 4080m
What about speakers?
@@adriano760 The 4070 in the x13 is running at 45+15w, which makes it indistinguishable to a 4060 running at the same wattage.. Asus did it so they could ask an arm and a leg for it. I just needed the 32 gigs, and that's the only variant that comes with 32gb.
@@dominiqueagnes5285 They're mid.. fine for YT and Netflix, but not so much for music consumption. I usually bring a pair of headphones with me and use the built in audio jack.
imagine that thing with Snapdragon X, it will probably dominate laptop segments, it runs really nice
I am interested to see how the external GPU would work on this laptop. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I think the XG mobile is quite expensive....but then you get good performance..
You’d be paying a grand for it on top of this. This video doesn’t make sense in how he has framed it.
It’s just a touchscreen 13” laptop. You can get this cpu/iGPU in like anything. Including a $650 thinkpad ….
I have a slightly older version of this laptop with a 6900HS and an RTX 3050. For the most part its cool how much they packed into such a small device, but at least on the model I own the keyboard is terrible. If I am going to do anything that requires extensive typing I basically put it in tent mod and pull out 60% low profile keyboard because keys don't register about 10% of the time unless I am really mashing the keys down. Hopefully they fixed that with these newer models.
I have the 5900hs and 3050ti variant and the only real complaints so far that I found are
that the usb c port on the right cannot be used for charging (apparently only disabled on the german models),
the touchscreen has some issues that make using drawing pens annoying as they tend to snap to the diagonal from the top right to bottom left... so that I can not easily draw a large circle without it getting steps in the line when crossing that diagonal,
sometimes it has difficulties switching between modes and gpus when putting it into tablet mode and switching back quickly, requiring a restart to fix
(and that I cannot easily upgrade to 32gb ram)
otherwise... its a cute little ankle biter that can last rather long when doing low power tasks while also being able to scream and fight a bit when rendering or animating (or gaming)
last thing that is a bit confusing to me is the power management between cpu/gpu when changing between silent/performance/turbo modes
every few updates from asus seems to change the balance so that cpu usage is limited in silent while gpu is more powerful in silent than in turbo for some reason... (at least my noticed that in model)
got to say that i like the addition of at least a micro sd slot on the new model... but price/performance uplift compared to the 3050 ti model is just not fitting for an upgrade to me
@DiverseGreen-Anon it's time for you to uninstall Armoury Crate and get G-Helper. I've just did on my brand new ASUS ROG Flow X13 (2023) and ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE. So far so good, best decision ever.
oh well i completely forgot that was in development ^^ last time i checked it only supported 2 laptops but i guess i can give it a try now that it has promising screenshots! @@nero_defi
Ryzen 9 7940HS and its iGPU is a blessing. I have a mini PC with it and this thing can game with no sweat. It's also an emulation beast from the NES to the PS3/Switch, it can handle every playable game. The Radeon 780M iGPU is basically a GTX 1060 but with modern technologies to make it even better. The temps are amazing too, 26/27ºC at idle.
If AMD continues to invest in these types of iGPUs with very powerful CPUs, we definitely won't need dedicated graphics cards unless you're all about 4K60 - ultra settings.
1060 is being too generous lol. More like a 1650, maybe a mobile one.
Can people please stop saying that something can emulate? At this point my 5 year old spare phone can run emulators. It'd be more amazing to me if a computer couldn't run emulators 😂🤣😂
@@dominick253 Good luck running XEMU, Xenia and RPCS3 on your phone.
Just grabbed this for $700 man. Waiting for it to arrive.
Please can I know where do you purchase it at this price?
@@NATHANKOFFI-sg2us bestbuy had them on sale but they are sold out i got one of the last available open box ones sunday
What is the battery life like when doing light work
Considering the 6900HS version with a 3050ti was on sale in July to September, and ended at 799.99 (less open box) at best buy before it sold out. I don't really see this being a good buy at this price. Especially when you can get the ROG Ally or Legion GO for 50% of the price with pretty similar performance.
I feel like Asus could have sold this version for $999 USD and still made a profit.
im guessing your paying for form factor / better battery
@@CT-ue4kg I would agree if the chasis was different from the 2022 version or the battery life was significantly better, but it isn't. You're getting much worse performance for the same money. This was my favourite laptop of 2021,2022, but the 2023 version is a flop for me. At least at this price point.
agreed, the price point is mad.@@CHA0SBLEEDS
899 right now at Best Buy
Bought at Best Buy for $799 right now
I can’t get over him calling it Azeus.
Eysus
I have an Azeus ROG F15 gaming laptop. Love it!
It drives me crazy how in all of his videos he says "120 hurt" display...
A Zeus 😂😂
Aye soos
No need for graphics card? Must be a new revolutionary idea.
I'm waiting for good black friday deals for this laptop
Yes please, request footage with eGPU.
I love Asus, they're always trying new and interesting things.
This is what the Flow X13 should've been from the start, AMD APU with no dedicated graphics! I might actually buy it now that they ditched the useless 1650.

Fishing for comments ....
You caught me, so schedule the video for the external GPU....we are all waiting!!
Netbooks are back, this time though they are very capable, Im all for it! (priced better) but its form factor is something I've missed since the original netbook from the late 00's early 10's
Would be great if u can do a video on this one along with the XG Mobile
The price kills it if it were $800 I’d be more inclined to buy one but I really want to wait for the Strixpoint Halo APUs.
Same here.
Right now is 900 at Best Buy
799 now at best buy!
I seen them at $599 at best buy now. This is perfect for those with a XG Mobile laying around and getting tired of the Ally's tiny screen
This is a perfect all around, on-the-go laptop for me. I do a lot of video editing, photo editing, digital illustration, graphic design, and probably some 3d rendering in the future. I'm a multimedia arts student and I play light games. Found a deal priced around 856 usd. I plan on purchasing this as my new laptop replacing my 2015 dell inspiron model.
For $899, this is a steal. Only wish it took 2280 ssds and had at least one open ram slot
Definitly want to see the external GPU in action.
where do you get them backgrounds videos?
I reckon it's wallpaper engine .. but I'd be interested to know what to search for to find that particular wallpaper
please check emulation on this laptop! 🙏🙏🙏
I've been eyeing this one for a while now and I really want to use it for emulation and such. especially the more performance heavy titles in yuzu and ppsspp and much more! love your videos and keep it up 🎉🎉🎉
Great review, I’m shopping right, this looks amazing, please review the external GPU option with 4090
i swear youtube can read my mind sometimes, i was just gonna look up this laptop
we need more laptops like this, small, big battery
cant understand why companies wont use the 7840u variant for amazing lightweight and power efficent notebook
1K for a CPU only laptop is INSANE
One thing I noticed wasn't mentioned was fan noise? Since this doesnt have a dGPU, is it as quiet as something like the ally?
Thats the laptop i want ,,,,, 75WH battery with Ryzen 9 7940HS and 780m iGPU powerful but efficient. not the stupid 60w RTX4070
Any hopes for RAW 1080p or 1440p benchmarks without any upscaling?
Thank you for your review! What are your expereinces concerning fan noise? The models with the 4060 or 4070 graphics seem to suffer from very loud fan noiose even when just typing a text. And how about the battery? Does it last longer than the one in the 4060 or 4070 model? I consider buying it because it seems to me like a very good office laptop that is also capable of some InDesign work. But I HATE loud laptops and I need one with a good battery! TiA! :)
Need to point out that the usb c port on the right side with the usb a port is actually usb 4, according to the ROG website.
This thing should only cost $700 max.
It's literally a premium design and build.
Maybe I'm being harsh. But it's current price isn't great for what you're getting.
@@tnypxl Increased price for what it is - a capable gaming laptop with latest AMD APU that also can be a touchscreen.
Without touchscreen and maybe some design tweaks which would make it heavier and bulkier - sure....
Oof, but not at that price point right? There are options with discrete graphics for 1299.
I was very close to buying this exact laptop until I realized it used the 2230 form factor M.2 SSD (and only 1 bank at that). This was the deal breaker for me so I went with the ZenBook instead - only slightly larger and uses the traditional 2280 M.2 form factor. Not to mention it is a bit cheaper too (but doesn't have the eGPU connector though).
I think 2230 maxes at 2 TB, while a 2280 can go up to 8 TB.
@@johnsmith-gs4qf 2230 is also much more expensive. It seems ridiculous, there is surely enough space in a 13inch laptop for a 2280 ssd...
yup, 2230 are more expensive, capped at 2TB max AND DRAMless which definitively cripples performance of such a powerfull processor and igpu, at least the soldered ram is fast and in double channel mode
which zenbook did you get?
I have the Ryzen 5000 series, 32 Gig model. This machine is a beast in performance, but sadly because of the compact design, there are overheating issues even with the Turbo mode in Armory. Better look elsewhere
hi, i have one ASUS ROG Flow X13 is a 2-in-1 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS, 16GB LPDDR4X, 512GB SSD, GeForce RTX 3050 4GB TI GDDR6. I have it from 2022 ( is the model from 2021 ) but is still a beast in 3D editing, gaming, etc. The battery is a little bit small and it's offer 2 hours on netflix, video playing or web browsing. I didn't find the need to buy the externel GPU that is connected to the laptop with the XG Mobile connector. It's vey light on the weight. The display is verry good.
end 2024 and 2025 onwards when next generation of iGPUs come out, we can finally play games on laptops without much concern.
hoping they will do well for rendering too so we can work on the go.
Thanks for this review. From my personal opinion, you could go with higher settings in cyberpunk, since the FPS, you had is more than enough to sacrifice for better visuals. Low preset looks like potato :)
The X13 Variant without gpu is useless , you can pick up a Asus zephyrus g14 with a rx 6700s for less money !
Very nice laptop but also very pricey I've been looking for one with those exact specs... going to wait in no rush to upgrade
I might be stupid but why can't I find this laptop nowhere with the mentioned iGPU but only with dedicated RTX cards???
Has that ThunkPad vibe to it on the outside and a Latitude build on the inside !
Would be great to check emulation and hard ones to run on this one!
Special port how about no?
Unless it become industry standard and everyone using it
I've got the 2021 version with the 5900 and 3050ti, been brilliant. Only gotcha, HWInfo clashes with Armory Crate and locks the CPU at the lowest speed. Don't run HWinfo and all's fine.
Hey bro how to keep it cool while gaming which mode which gpu setting
@@rabbi619 Couple of ways, firstly I use it with a small portable laptop stand, so that its got space to draw in cool air. Secondly I use Universal X86 Tuning Utility to get a decent balance between performance and heat for gaming. Day to day non gaming use I just set it to Windows in Armory Crate to balance power/performance.
@@RussellBaker Sorry this is too much complicated but i would like to know is it possible to game in eco mode during silent mode my one is the 2023 version i dont want to clean or do any crazy stuff but i want to keep it at a safe temperature so that it never gets damaged or becomes dead so what should i do.
Does this laptop support USB4? and If so, how does it compare a xg mobile graphics with a NON Xg mobile graphics card?
I would love to know about this too. This laptop seems like a ROG branded Vivobook flip 14.
Yes! NBow this is the vid i've been hoping to see after the ROG Ally.
$1250 without a 4050 is not Worth it imo. If It was Made out of CNC Milled Like the G14/16 Then maybe I'll consider it.
$999 for this and $1300 for 4050 and $1500-1600 for 4060 and $1700 to 1800 for 4070
what wallper live u use? share to me pls ?
The price for this laptop In my region exceeds some entry level gaming laptops like the Acer Nitro with a 3050.
Ryzen APU's are king right now 👍
Kindest regards, neighbours and friends.
BestBuy showing this at $899 idk if Black Friday Deal or not - but I think im going to get this for my Austrailia Travels :P
when going over the specs that background is really awsome. how do i go about getting it? its from a pwnisher challenge right?
Is XG the same as Occulink, not connector wise, obviously. Connector wise it kind of reminds me of those old laptop expansion cards. BUT with that said, is it the same bandwidth as Occulink? 64Gbs?
for the p[rice it should be better
Prople hating on this are completely missing the point. I recently bought a samsung galaxy book 3, i5 for 699.99. I LOVE it but i just need that tiny little extra power that the 780m will provide, but i also need it to be 2-in-1, touchscreen and be thin and light. Anyone that has this already has a rig at home as well. And i was able to get this for 849.99
Would love to see a vid for this with the XG mobile are you able to do one?
Looks nice... but that egpu is a sham, how can you call it a 4090 with only 16GB vram???
wondered how it compares to the Z13 2022 model with the RTX 3050 ti in gaming. They are priced almost the same right now.
My 13.3" 5600u laptop doesn't need a graphic card to game either, but it cost me 700 back then...
Yep this things price makes DOA its a Vivobook flip with a better screen and the XG mobile port. Plus ROG branding
Would be awesome if that were a fourteen inch. Thirteen is just too small for this old guy, even fourteen is pushing it.
thank for this review,
Will be glad when 32GB ram is the minimum... This is still one of the best slim laptops.
Comparing this to a chunkier laptop is missing the point of this...
honestly please ask best buy to fix their description for this specific laptop model because what i see is that it stated as 3070 but on the technical spec it says only 780m smh.
I am literally playing On the Ipad air 5 resident evil village. Its amazing
Wait, weren't these Ryzen 9s with awesome APUs supposed to come out only next year? Or am I so overworked that I got confused about years?
Question: This one for casual video editing or Acer swift edge (7735u) version? Thank you very much.
hi, I'd like to know if the base model is compatible with stylus, cause I need it to write down notes too, not only for editing and rendering. Thank u.
Man, this is the laptop I would have wanted, sadly I did not know this was being released and ended up buying a tablet and the Asus G15 laptop
I bought my hp victus 32gb 13700hx rtx 4060 from micro center for 970 after tax. Granted refurbished but better value for sure. The price is a bit steep. 599 or 699 wouldn't be terrible for this
$100 would be even better…
What is the fan noise like on the Turbo (60Watt?) mode? Is it bare able or does it sound like a micro jet engine?
Personally I find the 13" form factor, and it being a convertable, to be a little bit too small. A 14" to 15" normal notebook with the same aspect ratio screen would've been the sweet spot think. That would also open up room for a second nvme and most importantly cooling that would fit a 2-fan cooling solution. This will help quite down a notebook and or make it able to run this apu at 80 Watt.
That price... it doesn't compute.
That is a beyond insane price for just a laptop with an iGPU. No thanks.
Hello, I need help witch one is better between ASUS ROG FLOW X13 GV302XA/RYZEN 9 7940HS/RX780M (2023) and ASUS ROG FLOW X13 GV301XA/RYZEN 9 6900HS/RTX 3050 TI (2022)
If your main purpose is only to game while plugged in, then the GV301 with the 3050ti will serve you better in the long run. If portability and productivity while not plugged in is important, the GV302 is the better choice.
I've only had the GV302 for a few days, but I'm very impressed with it. I've only played one game on it for about an hour and a half so far, but the fact that I was playing Assassin's Creed Unity at 1200p high settings and in the 50fps range in just an iGPU was amazing to me.
Where is the OLED? Just look at those black bars with Mortal Kombat
I tried having this laptop
Everything is so good about it
But I could not stand the fan noise even under slight load
had one of this, and it is AWFUL for competitive games, the monitor response times are not suitable for FPS games and battery life is horrendous
did you get the 2023 version?
It’s a mini laptop
for best performance, it's recommended to rotate the laptop into "tent" mode. The airflow works best this way (hence the name )
Its about half as powerful as a gtx 1070.
It can play minecraft at low settings and csgo.
How is the built in audio. People raved about my current Lenovo Yoga 9 14IAP7 and I would disagree, that if this is one of the better windows speaker setups, I am still highly disappointed.
Does the igpu on this have a 2gb limit of ram usage?. I heard someone say that today and this video appears to validate that.
Between the integrated GPU and eGPU isn't there a discrete GPU on board of x13?
do you have any Oculink cables?
Does it fit the XG port?
Puts my laptop in the dust for sure
While the specs and performance on this ROG Flow X13 are indeed impressive, I think I could get a Minisforum UM790 Pro and a decent 1440p monitor for roughly the same price. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I had some spare money left to also get a keyboard and a mouse.
But you'd also have a desktop instead.
My bank account is doing The punisher "no no no no" meme as I'm watching this.
'Two-Way AI Noice Cancelation' - sounds... noice!
name of the live wallpaper in the specification part?
That cyberpunk demo looked worse than some hand drawn anime
Where is the 4050 graphics you didnt mention it
I... frankly don't consider any laptop without a dGPU to belong in the 'Gaming' variant. And when something like this costs around $1200??? What is ASUS or AMD smoking here? You're better-off getting something that yes, while its bulkier, it will still end up outperforming this ASUS at the get-go.
In my book, anything that costs more than $650 while offering only integrated graphics is a rip-off.
Emulation tests please 😁
its basically the ROG Ally but in a laptop.
Different CPU as this one is higher up vs the Z1 Extreme which is based off the 78XXU processor. The iGPU are the same to with the 780M.
thinking should I get the Flow z13 paired with a 3050TI or 4050 vs Legion Go
It seems that a Ryzen 9 is overkill for this product. For 1200p gaming, the 7840U / Z1 Extreme would be a more affordable choice.
