    In Spain Leon and Ibiza with TGI engines are being sold quite well, they include the eco label to be used under pollution restrictions and the gas costs per 100 km is under 3,5 euros.

    Hi autogefuhl, I’m a huge fan who’s been around since 2014, the channel is always fair, well edited, continues updated and has a great community feel. I’m really happy to see that your pushing for animal friendly materials in cars. I’m a massive supporter of better animal rights. But I’m Intrigued to hear how effective you are in convincing manufacturers and how they react to the issue, weather they are willing to embrace the idea or rather stay in the past.

      I know, great you have been with us so long, thanks! :-)
      The wool thing has more dimensions. First of all, in the RR Velar they use 30 % wool and 70 % recycled plastic bottles. That's a big step forward and already a good idea. The question is just why they couldnt use some other material. Anyway, the seats are great, we had them in our review. And definitely better than leather.
      If you first think about sheep in a natural environment, it becomes pretty clear that no single sheep would shear themselves/each other. So it's nothing that would normally happen. However, if you think as a single owner, like sheering your dog (which isnt naturally either) and taking care of the sheep, carefully taking it off like a human hair cut - o.k.
      Problem again is mass animal farming and the industrial production, which then leads to possible brutal shearing, workers are paid by sheep to be as fast as possible, often insulting in bloody wounds etc. Plus, the sheep breading is connected to the meat industry, so when they arent used for their wool anyway, they are slaughtered. Etc. etc. There are a lot of resources on the web explaining the wool industry. So my conclusion: Almost everything you can buy in a store or in a finished product will probably be involved in some animal harm, so I try to avoid wool unless I would personally give a nice a gentle hair cut to my potential home-kept sheep myself =)

    About to order the 2020 Ibiza CNG (more gas, but only a small petrol tank). Seems like a great solution for being ecological but still enough range for longer journeys (5 min filling up at 450km if filling both tanks) It's also a great looking car.

    Thomas, you are correct, WRC does push to downshift and pull to upshift. Many other performance vehicles do this also. The reason is that when your weight is transferring forward during braking, it's more difficult to pull than push, and vice versa.

    In Portugal CNG is almost forgotten which is a shame, we can only found a handfull of stations around Porto and Lisbon. We have big agricultural and animal husbandry companies which could also produce biogas and make us less dependent on imported crude oil, at the same time improving those companies revenue and helping the environment, so all wins!! Good on VW for investing on this tecnology

      By the way, I'm replacing my oldest car, small car (Peugeot 206 1.9d) for a new LPG one (Dacia Logan MCV), since that LPG is well catered for on our petrol stations, and the savings are too good to be true. But If I had a CNG station near me I would have gotten a used VW Touran CNG ou Leon ST CGN...

    Very interesting review between smaller and larger cars in the range. Would be interesting to see others like this. Thomas, you have a very calm and soothing manner. I could listen to you all day! And I would definitely let you into my car on a sandy road! One thing you didn't mention was safety - I suppose the larger Leon might do better in a crash? Do they have the same safety features? I would choose the Leon for its extra refinement, comfort and safety, if I could afford the extra. Here in the UK, I don't know anyone who has a CNG car - and just one person who has LPG. And what do you mean by 'more sovereign'? Upmarket?

    • @autogefuehl

    I had previous car with LPG, also with about good 300km. range and it was very annoying for me in comparison with about 900km. diesel now I have. It was more sense to make petrol tank just as reserve and make all CNG, with good range, because anyway you would always try to avoid using petrol, so actual range would be always 300km.

    The only thing that's makes me think twice between GNC and gasoline/diesel is that the only models that you can buy are Reference and Style, not Excellence or FR. At least is what I have saw on the Seat web.

    I'm using Skoda Octavia 1.4 TGI G-tech in the Czech Republic. My minimal CNG usage 3.2 kg per 100 km, and average is 3.7-3.8 kg per 100km. It's roughly 4 EUR per 100 km.
    Underground parking is a biggest problem for me. Some parking still prohibits CNG.
    Anyway I got better TCO vs old Toyota Prius :)
    I afraid Seat Ibiza come with 5st gear... It's not good for fuel consumption.

    Hi Thomas, in Argentina more than 30% of the vehicles of the entire country runs on CNG, pretty much every gas station has CNG, and some of them have more CNG pumps than regular gas and diesel ones. Its a very harmful fuel in the long run, the newer generations can last longer, but in comparison with petrol you do loose a lot of power and top speed.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting! What u mean by harmful fuel ?

    • @SantiagoAntonutti
      @SantiagoAntonutti 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing is that engines are not prepared in the most cases to inject compressed gas, as in every car here, it leads to problems with the ECU and more wear in the injection sistem and pistons, if its not done correctly it could damage the engine. Its probably not the case for the tgi engines because those are built like that and its probably different of what im used to see in my country. I had a VW Suran, wich is a brazilian state version of the lupo, and I put a 12 cubic meters tube for CNG at a cuestionable shop, and it end up literally blowing up the ECU. If you want a sporty car CNG its not an option, its not that useful in highway because of the low response of the engine making it a great city usage for most people and cheaper

    Ich persönlich bin kürzlich einmal Golf und Ibiza zur Probe gefahren...es stimmt, insgesamt vermittelte der Golf den ruhigeren Eindruck. Am Ende meiner Testfahrt hatte ich mit dem 1.0 Motor 5.0 L Verbrauch laut Systeminfo. Was mir aber nicht gefallen hat, war die leichtgängige Lenkung des Golf, die sich bei steigenden Geschwindigkeiten nur mäßig änderte. Da fand ich den Ibiza angenehmer..man merkte zwar deutlich, dass die Servounterstützung zurückgefahren wurde bei Landstraßentempo z.B. - aber das fand ich viel angenehmer...eine leichte Lenkung wie beim Golf kann auch "nervig" sein, wenn man nicht in der City fährt.

  • @WallabyWinters
    @WallabyWinters 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    im really keen to see what the new golf and leon will bring to the game
    right now theres no reason to get one over a polo or ibiza except for a more potent engine maybe, but that's of little concern to the average consumer.

    CNG doesn’t seem to be very prevalent in the U.K. There’s a map but I don’t think there is a station within 50 miles of me.
    And I don’t think they really compete with EVs unless a country has a really dirty electricity grid. But even then you can use a renewable energy plan or charge from your own solar and battery if you go that route.
    It’s strange that no manufacturers really push CNG as an alternative to diesel at least.

    • @autogefuehl

    Hello Thomas/ Autogefühl, I am trying to choose between the Ibiza FR (115hp Auto) and the new Kia Rio (1.4 Auto), both with about the same features and price. Ibiza has much better performance and is a bit more spacious, but Kia has a much nicer interior with leather seats (as you said the Alcantara option on the Ibiza is not available now) and also offers longer warranty (7 vs 5 years) and has a much better reliability track record (for the earlier models). Any suggestions?

      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey m8, our review of the Kia Rio is here: th-cam.com/video/_CYEv97QEvw/w-d-xo.html
      The fabric seats are the best pick for climate comfort in both summer and winter, plus the other negative aspects of leather I think I dont have to mention again :)
      You can still have the sports seats with fabric in the Ibiza if u want something special

    Thanks for another great review! Is CNG more popular than LPG in Germany? In Poland it is the contrary and I’m curious why CNG gets more attention now.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it is now rising. LPG is 3rd party retrofit only with small companies doing those, so there is not much industry focus and no organised buying possibility. CNG is being pushed now as Diesel alternative and it is the more efficient and cleaner technology

      I was also curious about LPG vs. CNG impact on health and one study says that "The gaseous fuels LPG and CNG show the best overall results, especially CNG shows (very) low impact potentials on almost all effects in all driver situations." and other (see the link) seems to confirm that. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352146517305513

    • @autogefuehl

      yes CNG burns very cleanly, thats why it even doesnt need particle filters etc

    I have actually ordered the Ibiza TGI in FR trim level, looks way better than the aging Leon to me but it's true it's just my city commuting car among other sportier vehicles in the garage. If you can afford just one car, I'd probably go for the Leon ST which is handsome as well. This tech is way more realistic than the whole electric demagogy bull and, mostly!, allows you to drive a clean, crispy hybrid with a manual box.
    Ps: 3 cyl Ibiza sounds quite better than the Leon I4. After all it's half a 911 boxer engine when you think of it ;)

      Hi Thomas - CNG, Electric, Petrol, Diesel! Love your informed discussions, and your live-on-tape detailed video explaining refueling. Do you have to move pumps to refuel both tanks? Does the engine now use a particulate filter when using petrol? Great driving images, thank you. 31:29 you didn't remark on the DSG 'stall' again (only guessing, but it may have been changing between fuels just as you were stopping and the computer had to compensate?). Hamish - agree, it's a shame there's zero infrastructure for CNG in UK (except within certain contractor's premises). Enjoyed the Northern Frisian Islands scenery. Thanks Thomas and Katharina.

      Hi Gordon! Good question about refuelling. My local filling station in Somerset has their LPG hose conveniently alongside a petrol nozzle at the same pump position, enabling customers to fill on both without having to move their vehicle and causing confusion with the cashier. I like the idea of a dedicated CNG station, as Thomas visited (especially one without a mini-supermarket attachment where we have to wait for someone to free a pump after they've completed their weekly shop -grrrr!).

    The pump price of CNG here in Italy is currently around 0.94 euros/kg.. I wouldn't say that CNG stations are so capillary in Italy: there is a considerable difference between the distribution of CNG stations in northern and central Italy as opposed to southern Italy, where they are few and far between.
    In any case, at what threshold of annual mileage would a bifuel CNG engine be more suitable than a mere petrol one?

    Thanks for the very detailed review. In terms of the Horsepower difference, how noticeable is it between the two? Ibiza has 90 which to me seems a little low and underpowered for motorway driving and long journeys with overtaking required?

    It's amazing how VAG can't get the shifting directions correctly on their automatics. Even the old first gen VAG-Lambos had it wrong. I do think Porsche put it the correct way.
