    • @disadadi8958
      @disadadi8958 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the Golf feels a bit more higher quality inside. Materials and noise levels are better, the suspension I like more. I don't have the sportier suspension of FR model, but it's still tougher. Also it makes a bit of weird sounds like squeaks and creaks during drive, Golf has none of that.
      For the price though, I don't think it's a bad car at all.

    As a Leon FR 2.0 2019 owner these are my impressions of the new design:
    - Front looks better, the grill and front bumper make the car seem more "muscular".
    - Rear looks worse, the shape up top makes it look like a crossover rather than a sporty hatchback, and the fake exhaust tips are just blah.
    - The interior looks more modern, though sticking a tablet in the center console makes it seem like an afterthought in the design. AC vents look much better
    - These weird touch buttons for the vents and fans seem less practical and harder to use while driving.

    • @felfel7510

    I had the Sport Tourer version of this car as a holiday rental. The Lane keep assist was so annoying as it was constantly complaining for no reason. The infotainment wasn’t great either and I really wish they had a drive select button as I was having to go into the display while driving which isn’t safe. Also found the trip computer difficult to activate and use. Took me ages. Other than that it was a good drive and I found the fuel economy of the hybrid power train very good.

    Put the new Leon FR on order yesterday so even before this great Thomas review. It is due to be delivered to Finland late July. The prices have gone up with the quality and assistence systems so they are quite near BMW 1 series which also drives great. I chose the new Leon based on the good experinces from the previous generation model, decent fuel economy and many maintenance options because the VW parts. Also the wide led stripe on the back is first for this price level for German manufacturers. Even the new A3 do not have it. It is good that they have made programming changes to the DSG. The previous model was quite clumsy compared eg with the new Magna transmission of the 118i BMW. There are however some downsides with the new Leon I am ready to accept. Firstly the design of the cockpit and front cabin with the non integrated center screen and Audi A3 like airvents on either side look like a product of teenage designer. Why couldn't they continue with the elegant lines of the predecessor? Secondly the front lights are not so innovative for 2020 as the old version's front LED lights were in 2012. The new full LED should have more light power. On the other hand they do not have matrix function which the Golf have available. Also the animated turning indicator is only available on the back. Something Thomas have not commented is the feeling of the brake pedal. Some media like eg the Finnish Teknavi has commented that the improved brake with storage of braking power of VW Golf feels unnatural when starting to hit the pedal for the first centimeters. I wonder would Thomas get these first driving test cars and nice test trips (when the Covid situation again allows) to Ibiza 🏖️ and other nice locations if he would be very critical on other more serious things than the fake exhausts.. (compared to the overly chrome detailed Xellence even the fake exhausts of FR look great). Also some core information is missing: Does the 1.5 eTSI still have torsion beam on the back axle. The torsion beam is very sturdy and not easy to get broken eg on road bumps. However in some situation such as tight curves it made the previous model sometimes loose the grip on winter conditions. All in all, the new Leon seems like another step up for SEAT. Interesting to see how people react to the elevated prices. Many Thanks Thomas for reviewing this car yourself! Keep up the good work!

      Thanks a lot for the information on the rear suspension. That is also a step up for this model too. Also one thing which you could do on an eventual upcoming ST version review is to tell more about the security function of the wrap around cabin led stripe. It seems quite handy that it eg blinks yellow when blind spot detection detects passing car. I think it is a big plus to more conventional solution where only a light in the side mirror indicates this. PS. Where to shop for those extremely cool NIKE sneakers shown during the back seat review..👟

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just re-checked: Golf and A3: 150 INCLUDING and more hp: Multilink rear axle/suspension. Leon: 150 hp still torsion, only MORE than 150 hp = Multilink. So the 1.5 TSI car here does only have torsion beam in the rear. Weird.

    I don’t know how it works in the seat but in my VW Tiguan I can change how the lane assist behaves. Either with lane centering or just lane keep, with lane keep it just steers you back if you start to drive of the lane. The lane centering steers you in a natural way in the middle of the lane. Maybe it’s the same with the seat?

    I like the rear design and is recognizable as SEAT, however the front half is 100% current gen Ford Focus. Wouldn't be a problem but the interior is anti-user, it's terrible. Even otherwise fiddling with the touchscreen or worse the touch pads is convoluted and dangerous if driving, they are completely unusable with gloves. Shameless cost cutting.

    • @tjfSIM
      @tjfSIM 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SHROOMY agree with you - the front end has lost the seat design language. The edgy trapezoid headlights of the previous gen were distinctive and unique, and they should have evolved them. Instead they’ve gone for a very generic off the peg design that is reminiscent of many Japanese and Korean models. The Mitsubishi Evo certainly springs to mind. The Ford Focus lost its way in the same fashion.

    Very in depth review as usual! I like this car, it has a more distinctive look than the Golf in my opinion. But I’m quite disappointed by the climate control without physical buttons, same for the driving modes. Even Mercedes with the MBUX still has left normal controls for A/C, driving modes and has many shortcuts with normal buttons. What about the CNG version? Does it come with 1.5 + DSG and is it going to have a multilink suspension? Thanks

    Well this car is now directed to family comfort (more room inside) and autobahn ride, this chassis long wheel base is better for it, about the exterior it remembers me a Seat/Ford focus front and kia proceed rear end (fake exhausts no...), about the interior: nice air vents, but a very confusing entertainment system controls, better console integration without piano vw black parts. Not my taste, but overall good build quality car The best part is at 7.30 Good Thomas vibe!

    Really good looking car, it's a shame we can't get the eTSI engine with manual gearbox at the moment. In Spain you get an ECO emission sticker for mild hybrids while the regular gasoline engine gets a C class sticker (more restrictions for city driving). I see in Germany you get a "4" emission sticker for both cases.

      I just re-checked: Golf and A3: 150 INCLUDING and more hp: Multilink rear axle/suspension. Leon: 150 hp still torsion, only MORE than 150 hp = Multilink. So the 1.5 TSI car here does only have torsion beam in the rear. Weird.

    Great review Thomas and nice looking Leon. But I won't be buying any car that has climate control buttons etc. removed leaving a touch screen only. This is a dangerous move as it requires the driver to look at the touch screen to operate it, while also pressing the touch screen several times to make a simple adjustment. Surprisingly even Volvo, which is all into safety, has done away with buttons. Best wishes.

      Yes, great Review as always - many thanks Thomas. Yes, interesting how Volvo 'is all into safety'. Though for every new Volvo you have to pay about £1,500 extra for BLIS! You'd have thought they'd fit it standard and be one up on other manufacturers, but no. As Andy says, new Volvos have a big touch screen. As one car journalist summed up a Volvo: Pros and Cons of touch screens? For: good touch screen! Against: the idea of a touch screen in a car isn't good! Anyway, best wishes.

      @@johncollymore1697 Hi John. Also, I think it was an online mechanic that said touch screens are "great for manufacturers as they are more cost effective to produce (and they look good) but they will be expensive to replace when some eventually fail as the car ages". A win/win for manufacturers.
