I’ve got the 1.4 Petrol FR and it’s a great car with 148bhp and only £30 tax. Your car definitely has the Technology pack and maybe Winter pack as well with heated seats and headlight washers. I think those alloys were an option as well. One of the best cars I’ve ever had and nothing major has gone wrong in 7 years.

The car is now 7yo and has 130k km in it and picked up the most awful rattle inside the dash. Haven't been able to figure it out and it's driving me crazy. Might actually sell the car because of it.
The Leon 2.0 TDI FR (184 BHP); pre April 2017 is the car to have as it had all round independent suspension, did 0 - 60 in 7.5 seconds, had LOADS of torque, returned 60mpg and cost £30 to tax. Owned mine for a good four years and sold it on 55k
I've watched many of these vids now and you Matt are definitely going to see me in person when I want to change my car. Your prep is so thorough and you are totally straight about the cars you sell. Very refreshing and reassuring for the purchaser.
My Dad owned the estate version of the FR from new and thoroughly enjoyed it. His was finished in Technic Grey which is very smart and much more interesting than the more typical Monsoon Grey. It also featured the panoramic sunroof. For anyone looking for a spacious yet compact estate car this is a very good choice. The fitment of Michelin tyres to this car make quite a difference to its overall appeal. Thank you.
This is why you are the 'go to man'. Many dealers would not take the trouble, or the money to change the cam belt, water pump etc. Thanks Matt, you The Man!
I had a SEAT diesel and it was a proper workhorse !!! I got a great price when I sold it. Bought it from new, had it for 4 years and 50k ,full dealer service and it was always clean inside and out. It shows that looking after things always pays off. Another great video Matt.
My second car is a Leon fr 150bhp and I have to say I love it.50mpg and reliable .They handle great and still look good.Youll sell that no bother. The 1.4tsi engine is a peach.
Thanks for another cracking video Matt - I know many others say it, but your attention to detail is so impressive and it’s heartening to know there are really genuine people like you in the car trade who are willing to do the ‘right’ thing. Good on you 😊
It is outstanding how much cheaper cars are in the Uk compared to Spain. Less than 4000 euros for that car is impossible here, even if they are damaged and have a zillion miles. Here if you find one that's under 10000 euros with the 2.0 tdi engine you are either lucky or getting scammed
Reminds me of my 2015 Toyota Auris, best car I've ever had. There's a lot to be said for a mid-sized diesel hatchback. Quite a universal car really, for the vast majority of singles, couples or families they're perfectly fine. SUVs are popular at the moment because for a lot of people it's a case of "keeping up with the Joneses" and they believe it makes them more aspirational. But in practice they don't really give you a great deal more than an Astra.
The led headlights that most of these come fitted with really makes them look a lot more modern than most of the equivalent age golf mk7 and I prefer the styling to the golf
I think one Leon is one of the best aging cars around, you could take the number plate off a 2013 Leon like this and you’d never know its age, a good condition one could pass as a new car
I had a 2015 one of these. The headlights are stunning, but god awful at actually lighting the road. After 4 years of ownership, it was the reason I parted with it
Actual bargain that, I ran the Leon Owners Club for a number of years and owned a fair number of Cupra's and FR's. I went to the Spain and UK launch of the MK3, that is a quite high spec for a FR. My old negative comment will be the repair to the seat, why has he put a join in the material half way down looks bad that.

Love your videos matt and your middle class humer. What always puzzles me is why you guys all think VAG cars are unreliable. I've been in the taxi trade for nearly 15 years and we sware by VW & Skoda. They keep going when the Koreans, French etc have all gave up the ghost. I regularly see passats, octavia, superb go way past 400k. The most unreliable cars we have ever had in the taxi - Vauxhall Insgnia, Kia Optima and Hyundai i40. All utter junk. Ford Mondeo 2 liters have always been pretty solid too, the mk4 especially. Keep up the good work mate
Seat - a Spanish VW. I drove a 51 reg Seat Toledo for five years to 2010 (VW Bora) and it was trouble free, went like manure off a shovel and had style. One of the very best I've driven.
This is a very good looking car, with the angular shape, it looks like it’s moving fast when it’s standing still. You should have no problem selling that one Matt, especially now you’ve improved its paintwork and worn interior .
i recommend cleaning behind the wheel arch liners. muck builds up that area and causes rust on the sills and wings. common vw fault but especially in seats it seems. very common in mk2 leon and mk4 ibiza
Great video as always Matt always liked this generation Leon nearly bought an FR a little while a go but ended up buying a Golf GT instead, funnily enough I bought my Golf from the same dealership that your GTI originated from Capitol VW in Merthyr Tydfil. I got to be honest I'm quite a fan of VW group cars as mainstream motors go you do feel a bit more quality and durability.
Same here, except I couldn’t quite find a decent GT that hadn’t done too many miles for my budget, so I got a Match Edition instead. I used to be a Ford fanboy and tbh I still like the modern classics from the 90s and 00s, but after my Fiesta packed in due to a dodgy cooling system, and after learning about the EcoBoom horrors driving me away from getting a newer Fiesta or a Focus, I too have migrated to VW. I’ve even got a 2 year warranty and service plan with them.
got a vw scirocco with the same engine, currently on 158k miles and still solid and had no problems with it. parents have borrowed that car now though as i recently bought an audi a4 sline
Owned a 2015 Leon Fr 2.0tdj 184bhp for the last 3 years. In that time ive put 55000 miles on it and the only thing outside of normal maintenence was a throttle body. Gets the thumbs-up from me!
Having owned a couple of these i can tell you you've found a jem there! Spec is unreal! This car defo has both tech and winter packs along with a few other optional extras. Literally dont think theres been an option left off this car. I currently own a 2.0tdi 2018 leon st excellence(non adblue), which is ULEZ compliant. The fact this car has the same engine, if not a slightly different revision and is not ULEZ compliant is very frustrating.
Had a 2013 MK3 Leon from 2018 until this year, bought it at 90,000Miles, it finally died at 220,000 Miles when the auto transmission died with a £3k price tag to repair. The most reliable car I’ve known, very few issues, and did an absolute shift driving all over Europe. So to replace it, I bought a 2017 MK3 Leon with 50k Miles.
My sister had a 2015 Leon when I had my 2015 Golf a few years ago. Yes the Golf costs more but you can see that everywhere you look, dash, seats, any of the plastics, road noise levels. I can’t see why someone would buy a SEAT over a VW equivalent unless they were Spanish and thought it helped their country by doing so , when you come to sell the VW will always hold its money better.
So many people sell the cars without fixing them. The care you put into the cars is amazing albeit often to your own detriment but not on this occasion; well done!
Fantastic video once again. In defence of VW, I have been using a Tiguan allspace 1.4 for 5 years now ,and I must say it’s been faultless so far. Not all VW’s are bad I feel. 😊
Was pleased to see this video as I've owned 3 Leon's in my time (the MK2, MK3 and currently the MK4 FR). All been great cars and mechanically very sound. Nice to drive, cheap to run and style wise look better than its sister car, the Golf. Looks like a good solid car for somebody!
Hi Matt, Just check, does one of the icon on the expansion bottle (header tank) show Mit Silicat, these have a silicone sachet in the expansion bottle that have been identified as bursting on older VW group vehicles and the granules block the heater matrix etc, leading to costly flushing , replacement repairs, the silicone bag cannot always be removed without rupturing, but a replacement expansion bottle can be sourced relatively cheaply (without silicone) via e bay!
I’ve got an 18 reg Leon fr technology (in my profile pic), it’s honestly a great car. Looks great and really good/sharp to drive. Sure it’s not as fun as some cars but I’m very happy.
i had a 2015 SEAT LEON FR but unfortunately got written off when a lady driver slammed to the side of me. Bought the car in 2018 for £11k and insurance paid out £10.5k after 5yrs of ownership. The 1.4 ACT petrol engine was powerful with 150bhp, insurance is cheap, plus road tax is £20 every year. packed with loads of tech, mine had the sports suspension and 18" performance alloys. Best car for anyone who wants a great first car.
Very similar story to me! Mine was a 2013 SC FR 1.8 with every option. Bought it in 2016 from a Volvo dealership who clearly didn't know much about the car; I paid £11k. It was written off buy a moron in his Mum's Range Rover 5 years later, and I got a £9k payout. I do miss it, but what a deal for 5 years of enjoyable motoring
had a 17 plate Leon FR as a courtesy car few years ago, absolutely loved it. i just thought the 7 speed automatic gearbox was too much for a 1.4 engine, it confused itself when it came to speed bumps
Great video Matt. I love that you actually get things done right to your vehicles before you sell them. A true gent in the industry! Out of interest, did you pick this up at auction to get it so cheap?
Ulez does decrease the value of a car. Matt, make sure the heater matrix has been sorted, i noticed the coolant was on the lower side. Almost every diesel Leon have this problem, it was a nightmare to find out what it was, until you late on realise a loss and smell of coolant in your cabin with no heating coming through. Blocks because the silica bag bursts
looks like the upholstery guy did a extra cut and stitch on the driver side backrest bolster for the repair. Unless he did the same thing on the other side, or else it does look rather weird and half arse.
I just bought a 2019 1.5 petrol one. Seat material on side seems thin as dealer is repairing a hole in side bolster. Paint chips on bonnet and bumper but dent repair guy fixing and font alloys refurbished. Lot the small mods begin.
I have a 3 door 2014 FR in the same colour. Mine is the titanium edition with grey mirrors and matching unique 18s. Love it! It has been really reliable and cheap to tax, good on diesel and £30 tax. Mine has 68k and it’s tight as a drum 👍🏻 60 mpg is a stretch though, I average 40-50 with the 2.0 diesel 184
I'm not a betting man but I think it's had a knock on the front.. Passenger wing looks slightly higher where it meets the edge of the bonnet just above the headlight.. Could be wrong.
I love how you turned on the passenger heated seat even though no one's sitting there 😂Also, that plastic bag that you found ( 9:12 ) looked like it had a vehicle reg on it, it may have been the housing for that locking wheel nut that's in the centre console. Cheers Matt for another video 👍
I miss your series Should you buy a .... While this I bought a cheap ... provides you good insight into car dealer's work, the first one is helpful for us average consumer what to choose when buying used cars
I used to have a 1.2 Auto Leon in that very colour, and it was a superb car...looked great easy to drive cheap to insure etc...much better than a boring golf!
Hello Matt, really enjoy your videos, this is Rickie from down under. I notice your service costs are cheaper than here in Australia. I feel for you spending bucket loads on a car you just bought, that’s my story as well, not enough home work, buy thru the heart rather then the mind. The only thing I would like to add in relation with using car vertical, is to do it as late as you can before the purchase. There have been cases where someone purchased a car ran a check, all clear and picked up the car a few days later, and in the meantime money was borrowed against it! Keep up the good work Matt , love your work. Regards Rickie
Hi mate I had a 2013 skoda roomster 1.6tdi in lagoon blue and on a long run did 74mpg brilliant car sold it for £3000 with 67.0000 miles on the clock always had genuine filters and oil in it every year biggest regret getting rid of it
I knew that VW were wondering what to do with the SEAT name as CUPRA has become so popular but I can't imagine the Spanish buying CUPRAS as they are more expensive and sportier than the SEAT.
I've got the Cupra version, nice car well equipped being the Lux model. Ridiculously quick but understated, much rarer than its golf R and S3 cousins. Still a Vag car so expecting it to break one day and cripple me. All the best Matt
Look out for those header 'coolant' tanks some have silica gel pack inside them to prolong the coolant life! eventually they burst and block the heater matrix .... (not very easy to get too)
I have owned 3 Seats they're great cars very reliable I currently have the leon & it's brilliant beautiful looking cheap to run it has never let me down!
Had a MK2 Octavia vRS TDI. Very similar to the Leon I believe. It was an awesome car and plenty quick enough yet still super economical. Would love to see you do a video on one someday. 🙏
I had one of these, a 2014 FR 1.4, nice driving car although lots of road noise I found. Mine turned out to be a bit of a lemon but overall quite nice cars
@@ian2183 yeah, think mine had been messed with by the previous owner because it had all sorts of electrical issues. Lots of squeaks and rattles too, my 2017 A3 in comparison now is miles ahead in terms of quality considering it’s on the same platform

Absolutely love my 2016 Leon FR diesel estate, 4 years and only bill has been tyres, absolutely 100% reliable, you’re right it’s absolutely peak diesel £30 tax, all ULEZ compliant and have seen 60-70 MPG easily

Had to sell my Seat Leon 1.5 Excellence trim. Was gutted to let it go. Was the best car i had driven and was a beautiful drive. Much better value cars than the Golf
Matt next time you get a car with a cambelt. Perhaps when the car is in your mechanics, ask them to make a quick check of the cambelt! Good luck with the sale.
I have a 2019 5dr 2.0 diesel automatic xccilence lux and i have to say, the car is brilliant! i've had the car from new with no issues, only complaints i would have would be a slightly firm suspension and the automatic gearbox can be a bit funny over speadbumps plus, the parcel shelf can be a bit fiddly to put back in again after its taken out. The front parking sensors where updated on the 2018 facelift model so now they only make a sound when your very close to something rather than just randomly going off plus the screen increased in size and the 2018 model has front and rear LED DRL's and interior ambient lighting in the doors. My car has the same seats as the ones in this example and they are extremely comfortable! I never had back ache on any of my long journey's. I'm also very surprised by how practical the leon hatch is!
Great video as usual. I have the1.4 petrol FR Sports Tourer. Purchased new in 2015 for £19k. Full Seat history. 80k miles and nothing has gone wrong so I'mreally happy after 8 years. MPG 45-55 avg. Road tax now £35 I think. Great cars.
Peak diesel was before 2013. The Mk6 golf common rail diesel was fantastic. 2013 on is strangled by emissions equipment. Short journey MPG is terrible due to 'warm up phase' ECU mode which wastes fuel trying to warm the engine up quickly. That's a requirement for EU6 unfortunately.
My 2004 Audi TT has 4 new matching Michelin pilot sports and my XC60 has 4 matching Continentals.....I have serious OCD when it comes to trees (and wheels).... I hope that you concur my master....PS my late father was in the motor trade for 40 years until the backside fell out of the industry in the 2000s
I’m sure Greta subscribes to your channel!!! Yes 2 door looks sporty but shorter front doors on a 4 door make it easier to get in/out in tight spaces and rear doors make life easier with baby seats and toddlers. Boring I know but who needs hassle?

“I screwed the plates on & put the matts in, I am basically a mechanic “ 😂😂 great vlog again 👍🏻😎
Your ability to add registration plates Matt is clearly the kingpin of your business success! Trade to trade is hard work but great fun
Brilliant car owned 1 for 5 years, no issues other than a heater matrix which I sorted myself in an hour and £80, quick and 50mpg
Finally you got my car❤ i have the 1.2 tsi with 110 hp.i love this car.
Fab. You are right about attention to detail.
looks like the upholstery guy did a extra cut and stitch on the driver side backrest bolster for the repair.
Looks good. I’m only scared about ULEZ but the car i would love to own. What a beautiful car
Hi Matt , It's because you have the attention to detail you have raised the bar! Many congratulations. As they say, retail is detail.
I like to think of the passenger seat as a radiator 😂
Thats what I noticed him doing before 😂
Matt keeps his Gregg’s bake warm on the heated passenger seat. 😂😂
@@JohnHoganN8 I also do it with Chinese and Indian takeaways
I have a 2014 2.0 tdi 150 bhp Leon in the same colour. Original everything, has done 345.000 km at the moment.
What went wrong with it?
Mine was bad too. Basically everything went wrong with it :D
@@ian2183 yeah, think mine had been messed with by the previous owner because it had all sorts of electrical issues. Lots of squeaks and rattles too, my 2017 A3 in comparison now is miles ahead in terms of quality considering it’s on the same platform
@@Xenon777_ electrical gremlins mostly, didn’t make it undriveable but would throw up errors more times than I’d have liked which sent it into limp home mode and one time did leave me stranded when everything died. Bought from a Skoda main dealer as well but I think it may have come in part exchange. Got rid after 6 months
Absolutely love my 2016 Leon FR diesel estate, 4 years and only bill has been tyres, absolutely 100% reliable, you’re right it’s absolutely peak diesel £30 tax, all ULEZ compliant and have seen 60-70 MPG easily
I didn't realise how popular the Leon FR was until brought my own ST version FR this year in April. These cars are everywhere..
Yet I've been watching this channel for years and years yet not once has an Mk3 FR ( yet alone a Mk 3 leon ) has even been featured.
But im actually glad at least one has finally been featured. Its such a fantastic deal with high specs. Congratulations for once🎉
You never realise how common a particular car is until you buy one 😂
Nice car. A friend has one exactly the same and rags it every time - the thing flies yet is still really comfy inside.
The VAG 2.0 TDI is one of the worlds greatest engines, I've got an 09 FR550 97,000 miles 170 horse power it's metronome reliable 50+mpg long run loads of torque, modern turbo diesel engines don't even come close to this gem 😉
16:58. Yup, water leaks in to the wiper motor
I love how this is £3000 in the UK and 10,000€ in Europe
And 13,000€ in Portugal.
only if you are a trader or get lucky. My mate is selling the same model but with much higher mileage for 6500 UK quids.
From one mechanic to another, I've just changed the air filter AND the pollen filter on my Disc LR4... I'll raise a glass of King's Ginger to you me old grease monami
Did a nice job off the Seat, but wasn't impressed with the repair to the side upper bolster seat should have replaced all the bolster not put a joint in
Really enjoyed this one
I'm glad!
Had to sell my Seat Leon 1.5 Excellence trim. Was gutted to let it go. Was the best car i had driven and was a beautiful drive. Much better value cars than the Golf
Immediately had a like from the "We all know a guy that can do that" comment on the reg plates 😂
Always thought these cars seemed just honest. Just nice motoring for a reasonable price.
I learn so much from these videos 👍🏼
You've got to give it to SEAT, they take a fairly bland looking platform and make it look more desirable, yet people still pick the golf over it.
Great cars.
love it at 12.12 ...ocd and i am oh and even numbers on the climate controls for temp etc!
Im actually about to buy one of these. The 1.4 petrol. Great little cars and they handle great
Thank you for putting the oil cap on the right way round! My faith in humanity is restored 😄
Not impressed with Phil the upholstery guys work. Did he get his guide dog to put that stitching seam where it is on the upright bolster. 😂
I've had a couple of Leon FR diesels. Put a lot of miles on both and they never let me down. Decent cars
15:04 I notice that in my Leon, the clutch bites quite abruptly
Only if all dealers were honest as you! Top man 👍
The 3-door Leon! I have seen 2 of these in 10+ years. Looks very fine.
Did I miss what happened about the manic parking sensors? What was wrong and how were they fixed?
I’m sure Greta subscribes to your channel!!! Yes 2 door looks sporty but shorter front doors on a 4 door make it easier to get in/out in tight spaces and rear doors make life easier with baby seats and toddlers. Boring I know but who needs hassle?
Even weirder - the 4 door is in a higher tax band, and not just be a few quid. £30 compared to over £100.
The Mk2 PFL Leon FR 2.0TDi 170 (550) & Mk2 Cupra are the best ever Leon's to be made.
