“Hand Jive” was originally released in 1958. I was in junior high in Louisville and everybody loved it. His only competition on the radio back then, imho, was Bo Diddley. Was this concert in the late 50s or during the 60s when his son Shuggie started performing with his dad at age 11. Shuggie was a musical prodigy who jammed with Frank Zappa, playing several instruments, and he passed his splendid genes on to his 2 sons, who also became professional musicians with their own bands.
RIP Johnny Otis who wrote "Willy and the Hand Jive" way back in the 50's....Nobody did it quite as good as Johnny and Shuggie Otis and their band...Was a big hit on TV when the screens were round and the picture was about a foot across....I remember in 1954 watching it every week....!
