When I was a kid in the 80s every other weekend my grandparents, my brother and mom would go too the matches on Saturdays in Dallas. If this would have been playing during a match everybody would have paid triple to go. That looked like a blast!
That's me up front (where they placed me) dancing in the black and white headband, it was a fun shoot but a long day, George was a sweetheart, all the guys and crew were. I never understood why they inserted all the big time wrestling clips when they edited it, except that it was pretty big on MTV at the time with the whole Cindy Lauper & her big time wrestling connection. I worked for MTV and got a copy on of this on VHS from their library, but this ones much better, thanks :)
All you kids nowadays pay attention here, THIS IS HOW YOU HAVE FUN!!! All of you are blowing it with your uptight PC hashtag this and that crap, YOU'RE BLOWING IT!!!
On the auditory, in 2020. Always loved George. Feel he's along the vein of Billy Idol and even b4, Lou Reed and Townshend. My opinion. Always dug how his FACE looks exactly as if that gravelly croon would be the likely noise to emerge from it. Empathy for the HILLBILLY in him, I reckon. Hell yes. Bad ass as ALWAYS. LOVE it.
I worked in talent relations as an assistant. Everyone was really nice and it was such a fun job. This was shot in Cincinnati, OH, believe it or not, in 1984 or 85...and in an old blues/jazz bar. I just happened to be in Cincinnati (I lived there during my Jr. High and High school days), and my MTV connections knew this and invited me to be in the video.
So who do you recognize in the video? I got Jimmy Valiant, The Road Warriors, Piper is fighting Valentine, Dusty is taking on Flair, and I believe Tully and maybe Slater, Bob Orton Jr, Ricky Steamboat, Kabuki, Bugsy McGraw, Flair and Kerry and then the Von Erichs/Freebirds, of course Adrian Street makes an appearance as Little Willy, I think that is Thunderbolt Patterson, you can't miss Abby. Anybody I am missing?
Ah, the dying days of territorial wrestling, when you could at least get a little variety, depending on what promotions you had access to. Can't beat George Thorogood and Gordon Solie.
LOVE YOU HERE IN AUSTRALIA!!! I went to see you once at The Lake in Toowoomba Queensland but people were packed out into the street & I never had the chance to get in - but we were dancing in the street anyway!!! Would've been great to have met you because I LOVE your music - especially Blue Highway & Get a Haircut
BOOM! 2012,...where in the hell would you go to line up even to get IN to see a show like THAT these days? Like the wrestleing or not,..the song is still good,..the bar scene looks to be way too fun and I would love to be able to go out sometime and find a band doing stuff like that,.. Well done and respects to all who were ever involved in hand-jivin',..Bo was the man, and George had an impact as well,..
Notice, no, WWE/WWF footage in here! This is basically a tribute to southern wrestling! Or as I like to call it, ass whooping wrestling! Great song too!
YOU worked for MTV?! WOW! How did you get a job there? What were your job title(s)? What were the hosts like? What days and hours did you work? What "venue" was this video shot at? It must've crowded on that dance floor, huh? Yes, I, too, remember the "rock n' wrestling" connection in the '80s!
At that time, I didn't have cable and I heard that with the partnership the WWF had with MTV back then, that he wouldn't allow MTV to play the video because of the NWA talent used in the video.
@oldschoolfan420 Sounds like you've been trainin', sayin' your prayers, and eatin' your vitamins, brother! Oh, by the way, do ya' smeeeeeeellll what THE ROCK...is...cookin'?
taped at CORY"S bar in Cincinnati. Blues shouter H Bomb Ferguson (RIP) is seen on the far left shaking his maracas wearing one of his wild wigs. The wresting shtick ruins this great performance by george and co.
@Hammerschlägen M It's just an expression smart ass, I know exactly what they did, I was around back then, and yes, they down you so much everybody was wrecking cars, that's why they quit making them.
@Hammerschlägen M Have you ever heard someone say "jacked down" or "hopped down"? No, jacked up or hopped up are just the way people put things, get over it, my god you're pathetic cruising around TH-cam looking to sharpshoot someone over a term they use, get a life.
It's always been "fake", but they're tremendous athletes that spend a lot of time training and choreographing their acts and even then suffer injuries that sometimes are severe.
That sax is perfect for the Thorogood sound! Have seen him 3 times and he's #1 in my books!
This is when music and pro wrestling was GREAT!!!!!
When I was a kid in the 80s every other weekend my grandparents, my brother and mom would go too the matches on Saturdays in Dallas. If this would have been playing during a match everybody would have paid triple to go. That looked like a blast!
Happy 72nd Birthday George Lawrence Thorogood!(Born February 24, 1950)😃🥳🎂🎉🎊🎈🎁🍾🥂👍👏🙌
To the memory of Johnny Otis, who brought this song into the world! And yes, the two best things in this world are rock'n'roll and wrestling!

Can't believe it. I actually owned the wrestling video when I was a kid that this comes from. Always wondered what this song was called. Love it.

Wow. Back when all kids wanted to do was have fun.

Gordon Solie put this one over the top!

Rona, fyi, the bar was Cory's, in Clifton - it was Cincy's main blues bar scene back then :)
Now called the Mad Frog. Still there. I played there a lot in the early 00's.
They are closing the venue 7.18.2022

Butch Reed
Jerry “The King” Lawler as well.

From Dusty, to Hogan, to the Rock, and all in between- they all did the hand jive.

I bought Maverick on vinyl in 1985. Damn I'm getting old.

And the hurricane on the sax!
great flashback of wrestling and incredible 🎶 long gone
Back when rock n roll was real rock n roll, and back when wrestling was at least entertaining to watch.
+WCS They don't make 'em like they used to.
god this takes me back. I loved this song and I loved NWA wrestling
I wrestled for 20 plus years, and did my gimmick in the Adrian Street fashion, it was so over, people loved to hate me!
Who is listening to this in 2019??? Best version of this song hands down!! Without the wrestlers, of course. lol!!
Joe Benes I Rock It!
"Best version of this song ever"
Abso-fuckin-lutely!!!
@@philipwolny3951 It was a blast, I used to hang out there all the time!

I've agreed with this song but without the wrestlers it would be horrible
BOOM! 2012,...where in the hell would you go to line up even to get IN to see a show like THAT these days? Thorogood in a duet with Pink, HAND JIVE backed up by You and UR HAND!
Needs to be (re)mixed in. But I bet there'd be a DJ willing to do it.
Only thing I can say about this video is ,aaahhh, what a rush!
My favourite GT number.
Great wrestling
Notice, no, WWE/WWF footage in here! This is basically a tribute to southern wrestling! Or as I like to call it, ass whooping wrestling! Great song too!
I tried that chop that Ricky Steamboat did and the guy was still standing.

It's a live music venue on McMillan and Vine in Cincinnati that's still there. Called Cory's at the time, now the Mad Frog.
Really? What a startling revelation! next you'll tell me that water is wet...
Road Warrior Animal- Doctor
Missing Link (or is it General Skandor Akbar)- Lawyer
Great Kabuki- Indian Chief 😆
Am I blind, or does Thorogood look just like Johnny Rivers?
Real wrestling
I recall a rumour that Vince McMahon would not allow MTV to air this because of the NWA stars featured in the video.
That isn't true at all.
Thanks for clearing that up :-)
+Travis Tarrant He wouldn't really have the power to do that anyways.
At that time, I didn't have cable and I heard that with the partnership the WWF had with MTV back then, that he wouldn't allow MTV to play the video because of the NWA talent used in the video.
Robert is right. I saw this video on MTV back then.
the dancing girl looks like julia dreyfus 1:49 to 1:55
@@jcann313 haha, that’s me actually, lots and lots of takes that day and into the evening.
@oldschoolfan420 Sounds like you've been trainin', sayin' your prayers, and eatin' your vitamins, brother! Oh, by the way, do ya' smeeeeeeellll what THE ROCK...is...cookin'?
Damn.... Wrestling has never progressed beyond the 80s.....
H-bomb ferguson on the marracas!!!
Man is George Thorogood HOT in this video WOW!!! Best version of the song (my opinion, not cause I think he's hot) ,.,.,
The wrestler in the blonde pony tails was cute, ;)

Does it get better then that???
Thumbs up if you’re here because of Jeremy Borash. 👍
Back when pro wrestling was actually fun...
Who can name all of the wrestlers in this video?
looks more like a body slam jive
You were hot!
WHO?? THOROGOOD..? ..I'd pay money
needs more H-Bomb
but no more than you do..
My name is Willy and I love doing the hand jive but not to pro wrestling.
That would be me being sarcastic. ._.

@@recordguy4321 yep, remember H. bomb well. It was a fun day, into the evening of filming and dancing our asses off.
1 person can''t do the hand jive
How come no one in the crowd is doing the hand jive dance? Seems a waste to dance to this song but not to do the proper dance.
Because it was the 80's and we were all jacked up on Quaaludes.
@Hammerschlägen M
It's just an expression smart ass, I know exactly what they did, I was around back then, and yes, they down you so much everybody was wrecking cars, that's why they quit making them.
@Hammerschlägen M
It's just a blanket term in common usage where I'm from, get over the fact that there's other places then where you live.
@Hammerschlägen M
