    Have been driving the EQV for 8 months now and gone over 40.000 km. Charging 9 times out of 10 is good, getting over 100kw/h until 60-70% and then 90kw/h until usually hit 80%. I think the curve is very nice and never had issues but never driven on (-20)since I got it so might be issues there. Had trip to Greece covering 1000km per day and all my chargings were great- same in 1000km trips within Norway. Rear hvac can be disabled saving around 5-10% range overall and headlights are adaptive (looks to me at least) as long as u enable them in the drivers menu. In general, with temperatures over 0c charging always hits 100kw even when battery is low as 3% and stays there until 70% more or less- without use of nav etc.Thanks for the video!

    • @bens4506
      @bens4506 ปีที่แล้ว

      good to know how the EQV charges at higher temperatures and that most of the low charging-issues might occur due to the user ignoring the offered charging stops in the navigation thus circumvent the system's pre-conditioning.

  • @hendriknoack6057
    @hendriknoack6057 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Hey Bjørn,
    the problem with the very inconsistent charging speed is directly related to disabling the EQ features in the navigation. If you don't let it set charging stops, it won't pre-heat the battery.
    I know it is very conservative, because MBUX doesn't let you go deep into the pack, but if you want decent charging speed, especially in the winter, you need to let it find charging stops on it's own.
    I own one myself, and when it calculates the stop too early, I often then drive on to the next stop and at some point after you passed the calculated charging stop, it will pick the next one within reach.
    Nice test run btw

    • @jannetimgren953
      @jannetimgren953 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is interesting. Does the EQV actually heat the battery when coming closer to a charge station that is set in the navigator? Can you read about this anywhere? This is the first time I hear about it. Do you know any more about how the heating of the battery is programmed? Is it always off if you don't have a charge station in the navigator? I will be happy for an answer.

    • @hendriknoack6057
      @hendriknoack6057 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jannetimgren953 Actually the manual doesn't say anything about it, but like all EQ models, the EQV uses the same software and the same fast charging approach. EQ services need to be enabled and connected to a Mercedes me account, because there is no manual way to pre-condition the battery. The system automatically adds charging stops to your route and you witness the increased energy consumption a couple of minutes before your reach your charging destination. The system will either heat or cool the battery, depending on what is needed. If you use Google or apple maps for navigation, there is no battery pre-condition happening. It must be MBUX.

    • @jannetimgren953
      @jannetimgren953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the answer. I don't own an EQV yet but picking one up soon. I live in northern Sweden so this might be very useful.
      Does it also have some kind of OTA software updates? It's very hard to find reliable info. I even called Mercedes here in Sweden to ask about the heat pump. They said it doesn't have one.

    • @SupremeRuleroftheWorld
      @SupremeRuleroftheWorld ปีที่แล้ว

      still stupid disision by MB nerfing the battery this way. it makes the car too smart for its own good. MB managers have forgotten the skill and usage of the average user is far removed of what MB managers think they use the car. the MB software in the EQ models is just garbage, even worse than VAG's ID software and that is a impressive feat, but not one to be proud of. just look at the charging stopping when you lock the door. if you compare it to the buzz its not even a fair comparison, the bus wins by a comical margin. just the 300A limit is utterly dumb from a commerical use if you want to use this van as a passenger shuttle.

    • @hendriknoack6057
      @hendriknoack6057 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SupremeRuleroftheWorld Not having the option to manually start the battery pre-condition is definitely something to overthink. At least give the option in MBUX to start it manually, so the EV-nerds like us can optimize their usage. On the other hand, only the nerds like us will use it. The majority of people will just use what the car gives them, and I think for starters it's not a bad decision to let the car decide when to start the pre-conditioning. There are always two sides of the same coin.

    I think for a huge car like this weather temperature makes a big difference because heating up the internal volume takes lots of energy, and higher density of cold air increases consumption even mor than with smaller cars.

    What makes the EQV / e-Vito best choice for me: second row with rear faced seats: you are allowed to mount child seats. That is important for us, because so you can extend the time to ride like in reboarder seat, which is much safer for the kids.
    No other electric Van offers this opportunity. ABC - always buy childsafety

    • @Rangarid
      @Rangarid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reboarders are meant to be mounted on forward facing seats, so I don't get the rear faced seats argument... Also not sure if there are any seats that actually certified to be mounted on rear facing seats. At least the ones i checked only were allowed on forward facing seats. Do you have an example, where it is allowed to be mounted on rear facing seats?

      @@Rangarid I double checked with the manufacturer Britax Römer today. They assured me that all seat of the product line KIDFIX are allowed to use in the described scenario. Which is: V-class / EQV, second row in reverse with child seat of the group 3,5-12 years/100-150cm/15-36kg. Doing this, you can continue to transport kids in the safest way.

I can't find anything that it is allowed to be used on backward seats.

    It seems like you consistently get slower charging whenever you get the battery really low (I guess under 6% or so) - Could it be that it doesn't pre-heat the battery for charging, if you arrive with less than, say 8% remaining? That sounds more likely, than such a relatively small outside temperature change having such a large impact on charging speed. Also would be interesting to see if the larger EVs with pretty bad aerodynamics would benefit from a lower speed (e.g. 100-110 km/h) in the 1000km test.

    • @bens4506
      @bens4506 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I recall and have seen in numerous tests: They do benefit from lower speeds. In fact almost every EV benefits from sticking to 100-110km/h rather than go 130 and quicker.

      @@erebostd Well I've had experience of both Golf and ID3, and the latter is easily the superior car. By being no so good an EV I mean that EVs are much more than mere cars. The ID3 (and all ID Series vehicles) are let down by their poor software, although it is improving now.

    PLEASE Tesla make a decent VAN. Cause apparently nobody else can. The EQV is a nice hull, but the EV part sucks, just as the software. Im in the market for such a van in 1-2 years. Hope there will be a decent one by then. I did a test drIve in the EQV about one year ago. Shit than, still shit now. Need at least 300km real highway range and min 150kwh chargespeed till 70%.

      others can - but there seems to be to little demand... and esp. in europe the regulation with 3.5 tons... which the EQV is already maxing out with load.

      @@nur_johnny8713 european tax regulations, and the frequent changes of them, makes EVs a financial risk. Conventional fossil lobby wins, politicians change, the people lose.

    Next time try a video during daylight. Much nicer to watch.

    110km/h is enough with that fat van. You could have been faster at this speed, saving a lot of energy. 1000 km challenge rules driving a brick. Could be cool to do a video « Slower is faster », just because to waste so much energy with no timing gain is a nonsense, especialy during this energy crisis.
