The Buzz feels more like an SUV than a Van. How about it feel like a modern MPV that it really is? I think VW has really nailed it with this model. It is kind of retro looking, but at the same time actually not when you look at the design more closely. A really cool looking car and obviously at the same time a very nice car. Thank you for an excellent review of the car.

Super review Bjorn - (as always) - go VW and the ID Buzz - I just test drove one yesterday and ordered mine straight away (ID Buzz Family version with a hitch) and can't wait. So the very last fossil fuel vehicle departs our stable and we are now 100% all EV. (No hybrids either - a futile exercise in Greenwashing IMHO)
with my ID.4 I also managed to drive -8 km without any turtle mode. VW is playing save here with quite some extra kWh's when the display already shows 0% & 0km
Really impressive for it's size, especially in comparison to less efficient Chinese offerings. Yet still, I'm really concerned about the consumption at -5 degrees. No heat pump and this giant interior, at least in theory that can't end well.
All in all, the best EV. Ratio Transport - Space to consumption is excellent, with reasonable width and length. Also nice to see, That you don’t need gigantic screens to display all the information you need.
The fast charging made it a buzz less of a disappointment for me. But... 2.5seats (only 2 isofix) in the second row, and no 200km of 120kmh avg in an 80% battery makes it a pretty limited family road trip car. This is not a worthy replacement for a Sharan/Alhambra, or even a touran. And VW deliberately tanked the seating in favour of the T7, there is no other excuse for the terrible seating.
haha, Bjørn Nyland I love your enthusiasm about the ID Buzz.... would you rather buy the Buzz or the EQV since you tested both? (I have some rather space-intensive hobbies like kite surfing, snowboarding and camping)
Interesting that there is such different charging performance between cars from the same manufacturer, same battery capacity and same vehicle platform. Has it been confirmed that the battery is different or is it the same battery with better cooling? It’s interesting to see these because American minivans are so huge. Every American minivan has had 3 rows of seats since the 1980s.
Thx for this video. I like the ID-Buzz but bought the camping version of the Citroen e-spacetourer. Is in Germany from Pössl and called e-Vanster. I’m surprised about the 30kWH/100km. I thought the id buzz can do it better as it is fully designed to be an EV. My e-vanster only take between 24 and 28 kWh on a long Autobahn trip. Can you pls test the e-spactourer with the 75kwh battery? And yes, I know the id buzz is the newer car with a lot of high tech on board. But this I don’t want. I want a camping bus with a flexible seat system. A simple cruise control and park distance control is enough for me.
Good day Bjorn, can you please advise based on your personal experience with all the electrical vehicles, what would you deem reliable, and with a good range for a family of 5 (three kids, ages 4, 7 and 10) , our driving is not on a very long distances, I would say at the most we have gone about 500KM one way. We are looking for something with a big trunk, due to the number of kids, good driving range, and priced at about 60k. Thanks for your great videos, they are very informative, and I`m learning a lot, but I`m also getting lost in all the number (not because of you), and would like an opinion of a person that is doing this on a daily basis and has a lot of experience with the brands on the market.
With a warm enough battery on my '22 ID4, I will get about 100kW @ 50% display SoC. Temp is a pretty big factor though, I just charged today and got about 75kW. Battery temp and initial SoC seem to matter in a way I don't fully understand.
The eBerlingo, decent car that it is, is not in the same space/size category. Yes, the eBerlingo can seat up to 7 people right now, but that will change for the buzz.
Funny, "drafting behind a van" to make it to the next stop. A few years ago, I had a Tesla drafting me, and I was driving an overloaded 3.7 liter Dakota 4WD Quadcab pickup towing an overloaded trailer in the Pennsylvania mountains. Even under 40 mph on the uphills he stayed right on my tail for 70 miles. It seems as if the ID Buzz on this trip was getting about 2.5 miles per kilowatt-hour. That's really low and not something I would take on a cross country trip, at least not on superhighways. I wonder how it would do on 2-lane backroads and how many fast charging stations are available there.
Hi Bjørn ... nice video again keep on the good work🙂But The price is to crazy.... In old days we all could buy a VW bus but now no way... I never buy a VW.... diesel scandal . Great test thanks. I wonder how the battery economy is if it was loaded with a family of people and loads of stuff (like in the real world) for a typical driving holiday. Might be a good test.
In our car the consumption is basically the same roughly if i am alone or the whole family. Kind of weird but not much more usage in any of our two cars with single person or 2 adults + some baggage and a kid.
If you maintain even highway speeds and not don't drive lots of uphill, it's not going to make much difference. Once at speed, it's the aerodynamics that matter. Weight mostly plays a role when accelerating (uphill is pretty much the same as accelerating).
Hi Bjorn. You do good work. Really fun to watch. Simple question…I thought the range was around 250 miles. 1000 km is around 620 miles, yes? So you should be able to do that trip with only 2 stops if you start with a full charge, no? Have you ever done a road trip in the United States? Do you think the ID Buzz would be a good long distance minivan in the US? Thank you very much.
It’s quicker to charge more often for shorter periods in the most efficient part of the battery storage, i.e. between 20% and 80% full. In your scenario you would charge from empty to full both times, also assuming that the charging stations are placed exactly where you need them.
If you're used to petrol/gas filling, imagine when your tank is nearly full you need to use a spoon not a hose, it's gonna be really slow to go 80-100%, far slower than 0-80%. To go fast overall you should only fill the tank to 80% but refill more often. That said I've found running the battery to 0% tricky, I did a longer trip yesterday and ABRP said I'd turn up with 15%, actually arrived with 45% so got a far slower charge speed. I'm sure you can dial it in if you do many trips.
I don't live in the US but I try to answer to the second question. Considering how the last EVS are designed for US market I would say this ID buzz has not a superb range. 250 miles is far to be reached at highway speeds. It all depends on how many fast charghers you have on the roads, which I think varies from one state to another.
