    Don't worry Bjørn... What ever you decide for safety and to avoid stress is fine. BTW I found this video just as entertaining as a normal 1000 km challlenge. We are so spoiled with all your videos... Relax, enjoy time with wify and Isabel. All the best, Per.

    The importance of these videos is partly the time, but also the experience. There are some issues that only show up when stressing the car, and that’s what the 1000km challenge videos show. This car, in its current form, doesn’t work. That probably wouldn’t have shown up in a typical review. You may be able to predict the travel time through your spreadsheet, but that does *not* replace the actual act of driving the vehicle. I know the 1000km challenge videos are time consuming, but I hope you continue to do them. They are far more important than some of the other videos (like noise and acceleration)

    TPMS = tire pressure monitoring system, also the warning light icon is a cross-cut profile of a tire. Maybe the TPMS had communication issues with the pressure sensors in the tires or the tires didn't have the sensors or something

    • @kemering
      @kemering 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They haven’t reset the tyre pressure monitoring after they changed to winter tires. After a tire change you have to adjust your tire pressure to spec and then reset it in the infotainment.

    • @kruemelfelix
      @kruemelfelix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kemering That's just dumb.
      Like why does every car manufacturer make everything so complicated? On Tesla you simply change tires and everything with TMPS works instantly. No need to calibrate, nothing.

    • @mikashki
      @mikashki 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kemering maybe it's that, maybe not. At around 21 minutes on the video, the car display shows "TPMS Fault" and then the tire pressure display shows no pressure readings at all, which to me would indicate some other system fault (with comms or sensors). At least my car clearly says and shows if a tire has too low pressure, or the pressure changes suddenly.

    • @lukasz4993
      @lukasz4993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kruemelfelix That is because Tesla is using an active TMPS. But many cheaper cars are using the ABS sensors to tell if the tyre pressure changes, which is less precise but cheaper since you need to have the ABS sensors anyways.

    • @andreasschier7858
      @andreasschier7858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lukasz4993 This MG5 has active sensors, it may not be street worthy in that configuration in some countries without an active TPMS. Issue in that case is that the sensors are not calibrated with the car.

  • @PsychoDaD__
    @PsychoDaD__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I think you should have a software review for each car. MG sounds like a good value, but then you will run into shit like that which I feel should be added to the 'trip' time, especially when this is car fault. Just to be fair the bad ones should be revisited once a year just to check if they fixed the problem and set up the pattern of behavior for those companies.

    Ahhh MyMG 5 SR in the UK I have seen this issue of locking charger cable occur after charger communication problems. My thoughts is that the charger is still still sending a comms to the car. Resetting the charger appeared to resolve the issue for myself. Still nice to see they have added an unlock option in the facelift. Good to note... The failed HV issue has been reported on the UK forums as well. It was good to see that leave it for 20minutes helps to resolve issue. TPMS stands for tyre pressure management system, and if it is lit up it means you have low pressure on at least one of the tyres. this may be caused by a drop in outside temperature, or something similar. Usually the tyre intake valve has this typre pressure sensor plus a type of wireless transmitter for the info to be received by the car (and thus displayed).
    So, if it is lit, check the tyres.
    Keep up the very good down to Earth real life reviews, Bjorn!

    09:58 this is wrong. I had a lot of problems charging mine on my first trip, cause I was trying to start the charge from the infotainment as well as from the charger. Got error of “HV-battery disconnected”, etc. So not touching the charging in the infotainment haven’t given me any issues after that. :)
    Also, the MG5 has known issues for acting strangely when there is something connected to the ODB2-port and communicating with the ECU while car is locked. Things like triggering the car alarm, etc is things that happens in those cases. Could your Car Scanner dongle be “disturbing” the car and causing these strange issues?

    always be calm!
    Many cars do not switch off their control units directly, but first go into standby mode. this means they are available again more quickly if the owner has only left the car for a few minutes. So if you have problems and want to reset everything, you should leave the car and lock it for 5 or better 10 minutes (depends on brand). Some cars also recognize when someone is sitting in the driver's seat and do not switch off completely for reasons of comfort.

    The locking of the port reminds me of something that's on my mind for some time.
    Most EVs unlock the charge port for DC when changing is done, but keep it locked for AC (or at leash have that option), because you're maybe using your own cable or some schuko cable that's not necessarily locked on the other side, so the car holds onto it to protect it from thieves.
    But there are also AC stations with their own cable. If someone, for some reason, doesn't leave for a long time (being sick, maybe...), the car holds locked to the station and can't even be towed away. Is there some kind of solution for this?

    Bjorn, please please get your hands on a Renault Megane E Tech for one of your full interrogations. I have seen countless reviews of the car but would really like your analysis of it. Unfortunately the French aren’t keen on us Brits so our right hand drive versions are stripped of the more “glamorous” aspects of the car (9” infotainment only, no leather, limited colour choice, no dashboard ambient lighting etc) but it still looks like a competent EV, as mechanicals are the same.

      I'd love to see a Bjørn review of that car too. I test drove one recently at one of their UK city events and I wasn't impressed. The reversing camera was absolutely shocking, worse even than the MG5 in this review. The stripped back UK spec is a real shame, but that didn't stop their salesman on the day trying to convince me the smaller centre display was "better"; spoiler, it isn't. I had it on my shortlist for next year, but it's no longer on the list.

    I have an mg5 and have had to deal with being locked to a CCS charger before (happened once in 5000 miles). There is an emergency release ring pull behind the charge port under the bonnet. I carry a flathead screwdriver and a spanner for disconnecting the 12V battery as recommended by the UK mgev forum. I have the same problem sometimes as you have at 6:18 - very annoying and I have gotten an appointment to get it fixed, the dealer says an update will fix it. It’s a software error, I press the lock-unlock and then turn on and off the car and lock-unlock again. Also, I always end charging in the app before I unplug and it works fine but failed handshakes cannot be fixed via the app unlock. There is an emergency release but you need to unscrew the plastic over the hood. So you are screwed if all of this didn’t work and you didn’t bring tools.

    It looks like none of the pressure sensors is working since all four tires shows ---- pressure.

    27:37 Taycan cross turismo is actually a kind of half crossover but yes it is derived from a shooting brake/estate shape. Taycan sport turismo exists as well which is lower, like the sedan version. Anyways, I think it is difficult to define these Taycan versions as proper station wagon models, first of all for the fact that a proper 5 meter long station wagon should have 600 liters of luggage and a more roomy interior.

    No problem Bjorn all good I enjoy the effort you always put into your videos! Just curious if you are planning to try an older kona in the future to see how the battery behaves at a low state of charge, mine a 2020 model almost left me stranded at 4% with just a power reduced warning this week. the car has just 49000 km on it! That reminded me of the Ampera E, Pawel was driving and that did something similar.

    TPMS = Tire pressure monitoring system. Usually a yellow TPMS light means that one of the tires is a bit low, but it could be that one of the sensors stopped working as well, which is surprising common.

      It looks like from what I saw on the dash that it was reporting TPMS fault, the screen showed -- for all 4 tyres, maybe the tyre pressure was not registered when the tyres were last inflated and that was what it was complaining about?

    With my Kona EV, I don't charge at Ionity. It's a lottery if the station does proper handshake or not.

    TPMS needs to be reset. If no sensors are installed in the tyres pressure will be measured by rotation speed.
    Fill up to normal pressure and reset TPMS.

    A lot of negatives here and although MG should fix them, we can't forget MG is offering the cheapest EV's as far as size and luxury go in comparison with its competitors. The MG4 is even cheaper than the Renault Zoe. The MG5 and MG ZS cheaper than a Leaf e+, ID3, Megane E-Tech, Cupra Born, etc yet with a comparable or in some cases even better range
