    This man's video prevented me an eviction. I have to have skirting on mobile home and a hurricane destroyed it. I had to start all over but could not find any help. I had no money to pay anyone and differnet people said they would come do it and never did. Its been a whole yr waiting for help and the videos I came across for help didn't give enough info and answer questions I had. Then I came across this guy's video. He showed all parts on the kit and how to install. This video saved me. I am a woman that can now put up my own skirting. I am so grateful for his detailed video. Questions I needed answers to that I coudln't get from other videos I got from his. Thank You so much for making that video. So appreciated. Us women who have never done skirting in their life need details and your video provided the details. Again thank You so much for your video. Because you were so detailed, im gonna scan the rest of your videos to see if there is another one that would benefit me as I have many other issues I need help with. :)

      This helped us, too. We lost our home to a fire and we are now living in a converted Mennonite 14x48 storage shed. They built it out into a tiny house for us but we need to put skirting around it to keep the cold and animals out. This video saved us!

      I don't know when you wrote this... I didn't even read all of it! This man saved me as well!
      I can never find anyone to work on my Mobile home! TH-cam videos have been my saving grace!
      People say they will come and take a look at whatever situation I have going on... they never do. I want to hire people... they can't make it because they just don't have the time because they have so many job's they are on already. If I want anything done, I have to do it myself! If I muck it up! I only have myself to blame! I love my little cabin in the wood's and thanks to this guy, I can start loving the outside as well! Good luck to every mobile home owner out there!❤

    Well, thank you. I’ve never done this before but the neighbor replaced one section for me, but I have mostly the whole mobile home to do. it’s a mess and it’s pretty much open in the winter time. I have to do something with it now. So now I know how it all goes together. Wondered how in the heck he measured these things, but he didn’t measure. He eyeballed it. I’ll measure and the top on mine is screwed down and the screws are rusted and I need to replace that. so I think I know what I’m doing and I may watch it several times so I can figure it out but that’s really great. You make it look easy, but it can’t be that hard either. Glad to see.

    I have a 1964 mobile, never been skirted. Not all rotted out like this one, but no clear place to put the top piece. I appreciate the real world use of a lap piece. And the reality of just trying to get a few more years out of a mobile home as opposed to fixing it in a way that will make it last a couple more decades.

      One thing we would do is instead of putting the fronts on and having to deal with them being in the way while we slid panels in is, We would shove spikes in every few panels then put the fronts on afterwards then pull the spikes out lastly. Just a thought.

    good video; only comment i have read elsewhere is not to screw the panelling onto the backboard as it is meant to float vertically and a screw tight hold on either top or bottom would result in the panel bowing instead of floating. i have in between a 2 inch float and a 6 inch float where i live.

  • @nerdinium

    The reason you want to go through the slots and not make new holes is that the plastic expands in the summer and contracts in the winter. The way you did it will buckle the plastic in the summer and will pull the screws out or crack the plastic in the winter. Use the slots they provide.

      Also leave the screw or nail just a hair loose so it can move on those slots. Not much but just don't go wild with the tightening.

      Really should follow the instructions on the box. Vinyl skirting and siding needs to be able to "breathe", as it expands and contracts.

    This is a quote I got from a handyman to put skirting on my mobile home. I went out and looked at what is involved in this process. I called a mobile home supply, gave her the measurements and she quoted me $750 for the size kit I would need. I called the handyman that gave me the quote, told I had the materials and asked how it would cost to put it on. He came out to see the project and quoted me $75.00 an hour. I asked him how long he thought it might take. All he could tell was "probably a day." The quote below was given to me but he hadn't even come to look at what I was talking about. I gave a rough estimate and this is what he based his quote on 👇:
    "So it's going to be around $2,500-$3,000 to install all new vinyl skirting with vents with top, bottom and corner trim".
    I'm in California where we had floods and mudslides. These contractors and handyman businesses prowl on vulnerable people. I'm 75 years old. I'm a lot of things but vulnerable is not one of them. After watching this video, I'm going to install the skirting myself. I'm saving this video and I'm going to refer to it often. ❤

    To a few of the Numbnuts below who are commenting about the massive shrinkage of the vinyl siding and its attachment to the mobile home... if you actually listened to the video he said atttach every 3rd or 4th panel... not every one. This allows for shrinkage and expansion... the miniscule amount that will take place in this vinyl. Mine was installed over twenty years ago like he showed and not one problem with my skirting except weed eaters and Father Time. Perhaps you should work on that “pay attention to what is being said” thing and quit trying to be the smartest guy in the room... because you definitely aint that guy. If you dont attach at about every 3-4 panels and you get strong winds it will simply “unskirt” your house and she will be naked like a bride on her wedding night. Yall really do need to work on that “reading”/“watching’/“listening” comprehnsion thing.

    Hi there. Very nice video. I'm trying to sell my mobile home in California, and the management is demanding I use something called "Masonite" for the skirting. I've worked on this for weeks, Googling over and over looking for photos where Masonite has been used for skirting. They won't allow me to use the "Normal Vinyl Replacement" kit, they won't allow me to use any fake stone, even they won't allow any insulated skirting or fake brick, or anything normal for a contractor or repair person to install. Not easy folks to deal with when trying to get a mobile home prepared for selling it. I would think they would want to attract the normal look to what should be, verses delaying construction with unnecessary demands, and one contractor told me Masonite is never used because it doesn't go with the code & standards of this type of simple replacement of skirting. I never thought after 32 years of living in a home, then trying to sell it that this type of a delay would ever happen. Any thoughts?

    Going directly into the ground is not the way to go. You're far better off putting down treated 2x4 staking it down then screwing the bottom track to the 2x4's. This accomplishes has 2 things. 1 gives you a much sturdier base and two keeps the track off the ground so it doesn't fill with mud and gunk that not only damages the track but also pushes the skirting out

    • @randythemobilehomeguy3715
      @randythemobilehomeguy3715  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is such a great question! Thank you for asking it! So to find out how many 12' sheet you'll need to know a couple of things. 1 - the length of how much skirting is being replaced and 2- the average height of the area you are reskirting. So now we need to know how many individule pieces will you get from the 12' sheet (144"). You will take the 144" divided by your average height #. This will give you how many pieces you'll get from the 12' sheet. Example: 29"-36" you will get 4 individule pieces from one 12' sheet. (144 divided by 30 equals 4.8, you round down) To figure out the trim you may need, you will need to know the length of home. Trim comes usually in 11'8" in length. For example a 16x80 is 192'. You will take 192" divided by 11.8. You get 16.27. We would safely say you would want to purchase 17 trim kits (rounding up). It's better to have more than not enough. Thank you again for watching and asking such a great question! I hope this helps!

    This is the super cheap very short term use of sofet material. It dose not meet fire codes and insurance requirements. As you can see the damage rot to the siding. I'm in the process of replacing the siding now, because of this. The slots are there to fit a loose nail so with hot, cold it can move and not buckle. The siding is damaged from water traped. Bottom part could be cut out and replace with an aluminium trim and new siding.

      Thank you for watching my video. To help with your question, Home Depot / Lowes both sell a handy drill bit that is used for drilling into concrete. They also carry what they call concrete anchors. These look a bit like a nail with a thick casing around the lower half of the nail. After you drill your hole to the size of the anchor, you will push the anchor into the hole, using a hammer hit it down until it is flush. You will want to add the skirting track or what every material you are using, before hitting the anchor into the concrete. I hope that made sense and was helpful. Thank you again for watching!

    How can you insulate the skirting better than just the vinyl?

    • @randythemobilehomeguy3715
      @randythemobilehomeguy3715  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people will add a 1x2 frame behind the skiritng that is attached to the house, they would then add insulated foam board to that then reattch the skirting in front of it. That is one way to insulate it.

    You should notch with a skirting bottom not her so the wind doesn’t blow it inward at the bottom 👍

    Looks really great. Very nice Job. J am trying to find skirting that has more of a fake stone look. Nothing crazy expensive. Just a faux plastic kind of thing. Just to dress up the front & maybe the patio side of my little winter home I have here in AZ. Any ideas where I could find a lower cost faux stone look skirting ?? Thank you.

      @randythemobilehomeguy3715  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually not a silly question! Its a great question! We've done it by cleaning the ground smooth and taking a rock -quarter size- and dropping it from the corner of the house. Where it leaves a mark on the ground, that is where your corner would be. It's the next best thing to eye balling it! :) Hope that helps!

      How I do my corners is, I screw in my middle piece first, and then I line up my bottom piece, attached to each other. But the key is I USE THE SKIRT ITSELF AS MY GUIDE TO SEE IF THE BOTTOM IS LINE STRAIGHT. Work that skirt into a smooth corner finish. Nail the bottom and then screw the skirt in itself.

    Can the top rail be screwed over the top of vinyl siding on new mobile home? I ask because my bottom row of vinyl lap is warping badly. They have that top track screwed tight into lower part of siding...I'm guess this is preventing my vinyl from being about to expand etc. Thanks for any help.

    the track on mine is okay but we had a really bad storm hail and a lot of wind it loosened the rails on top of the siding the corner broke off .The skirting is off the track only on one side of the trailer. Could I use my hammer to tap the siding back into the track.I notice there are holes in the tracks I didn't see any screws these guys didn't leave any extra siding .I have no idea where I can buy a piece (Siding)Menards, Home depot and L&M Supply Ace on the lake not a lot of places the rail seem to be okay not broken but very loose .I tried looking on the internet couldn't find any exact information to fix it. The guys that put it up years ago .They just did a fast job on it . Could you please explain how I would go about it to fix it . I don't have a saw . So far the siding is just totally off the track the corner my right side broke. And the rail on top is loose on it .I hope I explained it right. thank you.

    The problem is ... You get a good wind it pulls those long nails that have the track in place out the ground ... Pushing your underpinning under the trailer ... Put cement blocks behind the underpinning

      @@randydolph852 Well when I say good wind I mean like 65+ mph lol but seriously here in SC we've had some bad storms and the wind has pushed the underpinning inward and pulled the track up and the nails out the ground.

    So I am currently redoing the skirting on a friend's mobile home I live in Beaver dam WisconsinI've been searching every mobile home parts store home Depot Menards..no one has ever heard of that corner piece that you are using can you please tell me where you purchased it from? Or can I still do the corner without that piece? Or can I cut that bottom rail myself to form that corner

    • @randythemobilehomeguy3715
      @randythemobilehomeguy3715  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Thanks for the question. I will do my best to answer. For the corners, if you purchase a full box of skirting trim, you should receive 4 top front and 4 bottom corners that were pre-cut. Now if you didn't get a full box or they didn't come with it, then you can easily make one. To do that you make a V cut into the trim on both the top front and bottom rail. This will give you a clean looking corner.
      Now if you are asking about the panel as a corner, the vinyl is a thin material that you fold to crease a corner. By folding it, it gives you a clean corner I hope this helps! Thank you for watching, Please let us know if we can help further! Thanks!
