    Thank you so very much for this video! I'm 68 years old, and my husband is disabled so I get to do ALL maintenance on our "older" single wide as well as care for our 5 acres. I can't find anyone to hire to do this type of work. I'm grateful for your detailed instructions AND that you're to the point! I love hearing about dogs, children, life stories, etc., but NOT on an instructional video! Thank you!

    After living in my 14x76 mobile home on my own lot near a lake with trees in Texas possums are a real problem digging under the skirting. I have lived in several mobile homes in years past and when they are set on a cement slab that extends out past the skirting, rodents won't dig under the home. Unfortunately, I bought this property and the home was already on it and no slab was installed first. Therefore, I have every kind of rodent digging holes under the house. They are nocturnal and only come out at night. I would recommend anyone placing a mobile home on land to lay a cement slab down first and extend it out past the skirting. The cost is definitely worth it because It is a real pain dealing with animals under your house.

    I need to replace my skirting soon and as a mobile home owner for 3+ decades, I can say without a doubt this is one of the best examples of how to install a high quality skirting solution. I'm defiantly going to follow this example next spring. Thanks for the video!

    Thank you. I WILL be using this video for inspiration and tips as I have been thinking of a way to enclose/skirt the bottom of our new 4 season cottage in Canada. Both for warmth and to keep the critters out. I will be adding foam or silver roll bubble insulation on the inside as well. The only issue I might have is that it is built on clay and the ground might shift during the freeze/thaw cycle. The cottage is being built on helical piers.

    This is a great video, thank you so much. It prepares a person for what is involved in new skirting. I as well as the other commenters have a difficult time finding anyone to do needed work correctly in rural areas. Most are young men that are trying to learn a trade but doing so to maximize their profit and using every stort cut possible to save them money. They count on you not knowing anything about how

      That’s where the home owner (client ) tells them what they expect / want. I’m a contractor and I do jobs according to what the client has asked me to price . Just like this video the steps has no landing by code where I am at steps must have a landing where you come out the door. Plus I saw no ventilation that can cause dry rot and condensation.

    • @playhooky
      @playhooky ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danbailey96 I was wondering about it not having ventilation, but not being a contractor myself thought maybe it's different in different climates/zones.

      @@danbailey96 disagee. What about a first time homeowner that really doesnt know ANY thing about ANY of that? Seems to me there is a right way and a wrong way to do something and you as a proffessional in my opinion do what you know is RIGHT and explain that in the quote. If they feel they can get the job done the RIGHT way for less than thats where they get a second or third quote and then compare what is being omitted in the quote that is less or more. Ya cant know whats the right way unless you look at the situation and can think of the climate of location and know what it necessitates. Thats like " buyer be ware" people put their faith in these people to do a job in their field of expertise. If I knew anything about it. Id be doing it myself!!!!

      Double up on heat tape strips (one on each side of the main) wrap it all with extra thick insulation, use one strip most times, but power them both on when it is very cold or leave a tap open a bit to prevent freezing.

    I know it will be Very Helpful to a lot of people. I had planned to do one a little different. Same outcome tho. I had planned on using coffee can with all thread concrete them in can. Bury can down till 2 &1/4 inch thread exposed. Slip bottom sill board over threaded rod. I may have to rethink this method. Since urs has no digging involved. Nobody wants to dig if they don’t have to.

    wow I lucked out when I got my doublewide- they already put a decent brick and mortar skirt around it. It has little or nothing to do with the building holding it up but is definitely an expensive upgrade if you had to pay someone to do it. It comes with permanent vents with screens the can close for winter and an access to crawl under there. I got rid of the central heat and air that was needing to be replaced. Just a woodstove and room heaters. Window unit a/c's. Hot and cold water lines replaced and put inside the house on the ceiling so no more crawling under it for maintenance or freezing! I hate going under there and now I don't need to.

    Great video and work. Here in Oregon we now have to be a minimum of 3 feet high, get a high rise water analysis by an engineer done, and have floodgates installed. Permits are so hard to get here and take so long. It seems they don't want anyone to build anything but corporations. I hope if we EVER get a permit they will do this quality of work.

      What is the general cost to do skirting this way? Can it be done so there are 2 access doors......and what would the cost be doing it that way? Can insulation be put up for added warmth in the winter in areas where we endure high winds with resultant subzero temperatures?

    • @dereksellars
      @dereksellars ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@deborahleedlb Hello, The cost depends on how much Material is in your area. It's not hard to do. I have done a few Mobil Homes.
      It was around $600,00 for Labor and Materials. But that was 7 years ago. I would say it's double that now.

    • @deborahleedlb
      @deborahleedlb ปีที่แล้ว

      @dereksellars ......geez, where is your abode? I would pay to have you come, put you up for the few days it takes to do it...... I would love love love to have you come and do my skirting!!! One thing I'm especially looking for is the use of insulation or using insulated skirting. I'm in northwest Ohio. We do get some subzero temperatures during the winter and high winds anytime all year round.
      We out in farming territory so rodents are an issue.
      So that bracing and rodent-proofing is a plus on a number of fronts. Insulation would be an additional plus.
      There is also the issue of heavy rains turning the land into a pond all the way around my unit. I wonder if there's a way to keep rain water from getting under the house?
