The Xpeng, because I'm a bit fed up with the Tesla everywhere (and yes, I know, they are everywhere for a reason 🙂), but also because the Xpeng brings a bit more to the table, as the ADAS and the overall trim compared to the price. And of course the 800v architecture 😊
In the Netherlands the Tesla model Y AWD Long Range is almost 60k, white paint, white interior, 20” wheels and enhanced auto pilot. The Xpeng G6 AWD Performance with all of the same features is 53k. If you go for a nice colour, the Xpeng asks €800 for the orange one, while Tesla askes €2600 for the red paint.
Great choice, they will use the demand to dominate every critical mineral market until other players collapse, while investing in the greatest military build up since WW2. Naive traitor
I think overall the G6 is the better car if I had to choose only with the info from your video. And I think it's fairly easy to explain. Better price, better range, faster charging and on top of that a more comfortable car. And in the long-term you will definitely appreciate the comfort more than the sportiness. I wouldn't want my daily to be mega sporty and have a very hard and bouncy suspension. If I'm doing long road trips with the car I also want that comfort to not be too tired or have any pain somewhere when arriving. The occasion where I would prefer the sportiness of the Model Y are way to rare to like that more. That's something I would probably want in a second fun car for the weekends, but then of course I wouldn't choose a SUV for that. And as you said the G6 is still a sporty car I'm you can have enough fun with it. Also to have a very good autopilot and the better and faster automatic lane change is an advantage, bc if the automatic lane change is slow which it is on most cars it's not very useful. I like the interior design of the G6 more as well but that personal preference and I think having an instrument cluster is a must. The Model Y not having that is biiig down side. From how good the software already seems to be in the G6 I'm sure it will get close to the Model Y soon or even as good. So not only more plus points for the G6 but also some of the most important ones for a car such as the ride quality and in general comfort
Does a 2024 Model Y have a very hard bouncy suspension still, I don't think so. But the Chinese cars do tend to be more comfort biased and it will come down to the type of driving you do and the roads you drive on.
I have tried both, for several hours, both on the highway and bumpy roads. I cannot but conclude that the G6 is a way better car. The G6 feels much more comfortabele, thanks to a better suspension, it is more silent, has a premium interior, higher charge speed, it has ultrasonic parking sensors etc. What else do I need to add to point out that the G6 is definitely the better choice....
Xpeng has more luggage space according to Bjorn Nord. It has V2L. Paint and interior options are free,Tesla charge $'000. Enhanced ADAS is $'000 on Tesla, included on Xpeng(although not as versatile). Warranty is far better on Xpeng.
I made a spin today. Seats identical to tesla. Not much lateral support. Rear seats are generous and backrests can also be in sort of sleeping position Front seats are ventilated though (3 positions) btw... is must with that ‘taxi skai!’!!! Car on the other hand does not lean over! Is very quiet and ride nicely comfortable! Bad road surface is plush and quiet. Audiosystem is great. Also the 1pedal drive works fine. The handle for pilot assist is very oldfashioned! Looks like a saab96! You have to push it down twice through a faltering handle..., I've been doing that for years with my subtle button on the steering wheel (V60) But I'm convinced!!! Black with white interior!!!

Was going to get the Telsla Model Y Juniper when it comes out, now I am leaning towards the Xpeng G6. Self-driving features that Tesla charge for is included with the Xpeng G6, Android Auto and Apple Car play are big pluses. Things against Xpeng are the Tesla charging network and sentry mode.
I was willing to wait for the Juniper and based on the Highland kinda figured how it would turn out. Test drove the G6 experienced the comfort, auto pilot and self pilot. I’ve gone for the G6
Great to hear that the G6 is better sound proof. I don't have any experience with the MY but the M3 get very loud when you drive around 130 km/h. So loud that you are having problems making a phone call.
If Tesla does its job and makes the insulation of the cabin like the M3 or better? Handling and at least comfort improved? Change the design of the cabin like the M3 and at least remove the frog face? I might be waiting for the upgrade and willing to pay a little bit more and choose Tesla MY!😉👍🏻
Two things. I really love using our frunk. Lack is a big x for Xpeng. When testing cars can you please (when possible) do an uphill slippery surface (snow/ice) acceleration test. Just floor the accelerator and see what happens. Not all AWD systems perform equally well. Our Model 3 DM LR is due for replacement soonish and we will not buy another Tesla. This is so far the most likely contender, if it only had a frunk.
Would be nice if you would leave the comparative numbers on the screen at the same time. One left, one right, for example. Tired of having to scroll back and forth.

Good review. How does the headlight compare at night ? Is the sideview mirror shown in the display in the G6 as it is in Tesla ? How is the view out the back reguarding checking for bicycles in the city ?
Side view not present on the screen. Really miss that. But may be part of the new software. Rear View approx sane as in the model y. Headlights, didn't drive that much in darkness.
Really like this review and will be looking at buying the G6 when it comes to the UK next year. Should I have concerns regarding getting repairs done when required and also obtaining parts for the car??? At present no dealership has taken on xpeng.
They have a good setup with one of the biggest dealerships in Sweden which creates some comfort. I hope they do the same in the UK. Tesla managed to do it without a dealer but not all companies will be able to do it that way. I guess they will solve it until they start delivering cars.
Thanks for the video A few things that aren't correct: - You are not driving on the beta software, this is 4.x the is currently the live version in EU. The current beta that is out for a few people is 5.2.5 (with new navigation from TomTom) - There are 2 trip meters that can be reset, its just a weird placement under the tire pressure menu. - The current navigation isn't good, but you could have set it to detailed in the settings then the directions are better.
I have both Model 3 and G6 in China. I now prefer Xpeng to Tesla becuase Xpeng cars are more affordable with more free features such as autopark and V2L(really useful for camping). I cannot find any reason to buy a Tesla car anymore at least in China.
Model Y Juniper update will change it. Quiter, more comfort and more range + higher quality interior. Been testing the Model 3 Highland and it´s a great bump up in those areas. Add the EU tax on top of that and prices should align. (If Xpeng deosn´t choose to lower the price and take the hit. In other words even more losses on their balance sheet) Anybody can make great cars with high quality these days. Not everybody makes a profit. These companies will eventually go broke if volume production won´t save them. Easy economics.
@@gerritvandendool133 It´s always a race. The new Y is coming in Q1-25, so Xpeng has to do a refresh after only 1 year. Usually it takes around 3 y for carmakers to make a smaller refresh. But the Chinease may change tho old routines maybe. Anyway. As I said. Anybody can make a luxurious car with high quality. But in the long run it´s about who can sell good enough cars profitably.

One thing I notice about the operating systems in Chinese EVs, they stress a lot about voice command usability. But I know voice commands are not widely used in the west, at least not as much as people in Asia. I guess that’s why the review didn’t cover that part. I really like to know how Xpeng’s localization works on that part.
I'm driving the model Y temporarily while waiting for my Scenic to arrive. I must say that for a tech company I'm pretty disappointed with Tesla's driving systems. Regular phantom brakes. Autosteer fighting me to change lanes even after switching on the indicator and then having to reactivate after change. And ACC not speeding up when activating the indicator like VW's ACC does. It rather keeps slowing down until you've completed the lane change so you hold up traffic in faster lane. Also as you acknowledge in this video it's pretty hard suspension.
Thanks! It supports phone as a key, and NFC on the mirror is for keycard. But haven't tested that myself. No sunroof cover included. Rega doing the charge port you need to open it by tapping or by phone or remote key.

Tesla MYP has 279 mile range in the US, so maybe the G6 has quite a bit more "actual" range ? If it were available in the US, I would go for the G6 for the comfort, quietness and cooled seats, but since it isn't, I'll wait for the refreshed Y
Got a question regarding autopilot. Does it do resume LKA and ACC after you move the wheel yourself without having to manually engage it again. Like VW and other cars do that , but Tesla blocks the wheel and if you add input it disconnects the assist and you have to engage it manually again.
if it is so narrow that it needs to fold mirrors , how do you get out? does it park with you outside, can you then call it from the phone? Any features like tesla mode where it records everything so you can use in case of accidents? Something like sentry mode?
You need to be very thin to get out. 😂 Not sure about sentry mode there is a lot going on regarding gdpr in Europe so sentry mode on Tesla is also changing every now and then..
It's a tough head-to-head race between the two vehicles. You showed very nicely in the video how difficult it is to decide. Nevertheless, I think it's time to add some sensible hardware buttons to the cockpit again. In the end, display-only vehicles will not succeed. 😁
I recently tested the Model Y, and at 6'1", I found my head hitting the roof while reclining in the back seat. Is that the case with G6 as in more headroom space or is it exactly the same?

Musk is the problem Tesla has. It's his personal project customers are not invited to. He creates what he likes and assumes it's the best thing ever and everybody will form a line to get his products. For example, his ego will never bring back stalks even though EuroNCAP will demand them for a 5-star rating. Nobody asked them and they made the car only worse.

I totally agree with you, both of you! The Tesla was good.... But I do not like bad Chinese cars, nor American ones! But this is still not the beginning of Xpeng, the Tianji OS is still in Beta version and you did not have the well translated multilingual version which should be the 5.3 or 5.4, or 6.0 version which will be soonly available till the end of this year, or end of next month! Tesla needs to redesign everything and improve it, as they did a very very bad Cyberspace, a bad parody of the Li Mega!

Well having driven the Model Y which I didn't like until I can test drive the G6 not sure but based on your review I'd probably go the G6 and would go for the Red colour to be honest as I like it, different not like every other car on the road, would just need a light colour interior is the only thing particularly in Australian hot summers.

The only deal break for me is the lack of frunk, what do you do with your cable when you go for long trip ? I will wait for 2025 Tesla model Y and at that point in time I will be able to choose.
You are welcome! I would put it in the compartment under the floor in the boot. You very rarely use your cable on long trips. Most likely at your destination or at a hotel, and then you probably bring your bags anyway and can easily extract your cable.
I would go for the EL6 if you don't think the price is an issue. It's bigger and mor premium, and looks better (my private opinon). EL6 is more comparable to the Xpeng G9.
Yes, the NIO Sems more luxury, but i think the Price for battery or battery rent will be a issue. Imho the Electric Brand will be succesful that offers the best Leasing Models or car Price Stability.
One fact that is never discussed is the vehicle operating system. I suspect that the G6 is using Android as the OS system. This can be hacked by people that hack and steal cars. Tesla uses Unix which is very robust industrial OS and very difficult to hack. Is this a consideration ?
Both are Linux based. Xpeng has a mod on Android OS just like how Google has a mod on Android OS. Android OS isn’t known to be hackable otherwise google wouldn’t be where it is today.

Again for consumption you can ask vocally, but this needs to be well translated in English and others languages ... This is being solved now, and you will be able to personalize this fully, and request new adaptations from Xpeng Motors! They can create lit of alternatives which can match others users... Fonts size needs to be adapted accordingly to what the user can see... But an Xpeng is not there to make you check everything, it transports you!
can the car also park front side not only back coz somethimes you need to park to front ,or when you are on a parking lot where the parking lanes are side ways . i mean auto parking
I bet a 2024 Model Y is a tad more quiet and comfortable than your '22. Even just new tires can make a difference. It's mindblowing how Tesla does not have oscillating ventilation. They invented the digital ventilation, and they didn't use it fully. First time I see a chinese car tested that really challenge Tesla on efficiency, charging and software.
Agree on the ventilation, very strange. Regarding noise, that's not the case unfortunately, have measured newer Y too and it has the same level of noise as mine. And my tires has only rolled 6000km, so still new. (Drive it way too little 😂)

I left Tesla because: A: car's value has gone from € 60k to 18K in 5 years. Bought this company car for this price from the leasing company. B: No Juniper update is announced for model Y C: Telsa updates are wierd for european markets So its time to change
No, you can say "music is to loud!", or, "I am not deaf, put the music lower!", or "Hey Xpeng, you are so noisy", or "Tianji, why are you shouting like this?", or any other thing meaning quite this ... And you can continue talking and request lot of others adaptations, up to 6 at the same time, in 30 seconds vocal commande and when the windows are again closed others order can be taken to adapt others things. You are in Europa, so like for paper you are far backwards China, same for printing, same for ink, and same for cheap pencils... This is question of weeks, not centuries now with OTA updates! And I just saw the Renault Scénic test, and for the one pedal drive it will be applied later, but not on all car, the vehicle needs to be changed/renewed to benefit of the one pedal drive! This is not the case in Xpeng, anything is positively adaptable very quickly!

Such a good car, better than Tesla Y but the delivery numbers in EU remain very low for now.... I guess they are just entering but.... I was expecting a bit more sells. Lets see. At the moment, this is the first on my list ...when ONVO will land in EU we will see price and other aspects. + The design in the G6 is more up to date, more " modern". I think Tesla is just a People's car, it became popular and people just buy it for the sake of being a Tesla. The EU is making things hard for consumers.....but Xpeng is looking at producing in EU.

Tesla has a huge reputation here and a lot of dealerships. Nobody will spend this money to a random unknown Chinese Brand...maybee Xiaomi Can Do a really good job because they are well known (ans i think they Can really sell well, love the su7 for my part) And the supercharger network is a really great addition for the EV starter buyer. Tesla software is somewhat still better but v5 of Xpeng software brings a lot of new stuff + android auto and apple Carplay. That compensates.

The Tesla Model Y looks outdated now. I really don't like the frog posture. It needs a new design with new headlights. 😂

Searched Xpeng G6 tow capacity and comes up as 1500kg vs Model Y of 1600kg. You can search for the other things.

At present no dealership has taken on xpeng.
They have a good setup with one of the biggest dealerships in Sweden which creates some comfort. I hope they do the same in the UK.
Tesla managed to do it without a dealer but not all companies will be able to do it that way. I guess they will solve it until they start delivering cars.

A few things that aren't correct:
- You are not driving on the beta software, this is 4.x the is currently the live version in EU. The current beta that is out for a few people is 5.2.5 (with new navigation from TomTom)
- There are 2 trip meters that can be reset, its just a weird placement under the tire pressure menu.
- The current navigation isn't good, but you could have set it to detailed in the settings then the directions are better.

I have both Model 3 and G6 in China. I now prefer Xpeng to Tesla becuase Xpeng cars are more affordable with more free features such as autopark and V2L(really useful for camping). I cannot find any reason to buy a Tesla car anymore at least in China.

Model Y Juniper update will change it. Quiter, more comfort and more range + higher quality interior. Been testing the Model 3 Highland and it´s a great bump up in those areas.
Add the EU tax on top of that and prices should align. (If Xpeng deosn´t choose to lower the price and take the hit. In other words even more losses on their balance sheet)
Anybody can make great cars with high quality these days. Not everybody makes a profit. These companies will eventually go broke if volume production won´t save them. Easy economics.
As soon as Xpeng would bring G6 "juniper" to tje market, it would no doubt be better again than the model Y
@@gerritvandendool133 It´s always a race. The new Y is coming in Q1-25, so Xpeng has to do a refresh after only 1 year. Usually it takes around 3 y for carmakers to make a smaller refresh. But the Chinease may change tho old routines maybe.
Anyway. As I said. Anybody can make a luxurious car with high quality. But in the long run it´s about who can sell good enough cars profitably.

One thing I notice about the operating systems in Chinese EVs, they stress a lot about voice command usability. But I know voice commands are not widely used in the west, at least not as much as people in Asia. I guess that’s why the review didn’t cover that part. I really like to know how Xpeng’s localization works on that part.

I'm driving the model Y temporarily while waiting for my Scenic to arrive. I must say that for a tech company I'm pretty disappointed with Tesla's driving systems. Regular phantom brakes. Autosteer fighting me to change lanes even after switching on the indicator and then having to reactivate after change. And ACC not speeding up when activating the indicator like VW's ACC does. It rather keeps slowing down until you've completed the lane change so you hold up traffic in faster lane. Also as you acknowledge in this video it's pretty hard suspension.
I would prefer entry to entry comparison. Most people do not buy the performance versions.

Thanks! It supports phone as a key, and NFC on the mirror is for keycard. But haven't tested that myself. No sunroof cover included. Rega doing the charge port you need to open it by tapping or by phone or remote key.

Tesla MYP has 279 mile range in the US, so maybe the G6 has quite a bit more "actual" range ? If it were available in the US, I would go for the G6 for the comfort, quietness and cooled seats, but since it isn't, I'll wait for the refreshed Y

No not that much at all. Less phantom breaking than on my model y. Not sure if I experienced any pj's Thom breaking st all att ACC
Got a question regarding autopilot. Does it do resume LKA and ACC after you move the wheel yourself without having to manually engage it again. Like VW and other cars do that , but Tesla blocks the wheel and if you add input it disconnects the assist and you have to engage it manually again.
Yes it reengages it when switching lane etc.
if it is so narrow that it needs to fold mirrors , how do you get out? does it park with you outside, can you then call it from the phone? Any features like tesla mode where it records everything so you can use in case of accidents? Something like sentry mode?
You need to be very thin to get out. 😂 Not sure about sentry mode there is a lot going on regarding gdpr in Europe so sentry mode on Tesla is also changing every now and then..

I recently tested the Model Y, and at 6'1", I found my head hitting the roof while reclining in the back seat. Is that the case with G6 as in more headroom space or is it exactly the same?
The headroom is great in both cars. didn't hit my head in the G6.

Musk is the problem Tesla has. It's his personal project customers are not invited to. He creates what he likes and assumes it's the best thing ever and everybody will form a line to get his products. For example, his ego will never bring back stalks even though EuroNCAP will demand them for a 5-star rating. Nobody asked them and they made the car only worse.

I totally agree with you, both of you! The Tesla was good.... But I do not like bad Chinese cars, nor American ones! But this is still not the beginning of Xpeng, the Tianji OS is still in Beta version and you did not have the well translated multilingual version which should be the 5.3 or 5.4, or 6.0 version which will be soonly available till the end of this year, or end of next month! Tesla needs to redesign everything and improve it, as they did a very very bad Cyberspace, a bad parody of the Li Mega!

Well having driven the Model Y which I didn't like until I can test drive the G6 not sure but based on your review I'd probably go the G6 and would go for the Red colour to be honest as I like it, different not like every other car on the road, would just need a light colour interior is the only thing particularly in Australian hot summers.

I need to choose my new EV soon and for bicycle lovers this electric tow hitch makes a big difference vs the difficult manual tow hitch from Tesla. The only deal break for me is the lack of frunk, what do you do with your cable when you go for long trip ? I will wait for 2025 Tesla model Y and at that point in time I will be able to choose.

I would put it in the compartment under the floor in the boot. You very rarely use your cable on long trips. Most likely at your destination or at a hotel, and then you probably bring your bags anyway and can easily extract your cable.

I would go for the EL6 if you don't think the price is an issue. It's bigger and mor premium, and looks better (my private opinon). EL6 is more comparable to the Xpeng G9.
Yes, the NIO Sems more luxury, but i think the Price for battery or battery rent will be a issue. Imho the Electric Brand will be succesful that offers the best Leasing Models or car Price Stability.

They will be available in Australia shortly but it appears only in the 3 largest cities.
One fact that is never discussed is the vehicle operating system. I suspect that the G6 is using Android as the OS system. This can be hacked by people that hack and steal cars. Tesla uses Unix which is very robust industrial OS and very difficult to hack. Is this a consideration ?
Haven't looked into that in any detailed manner. But maybe a deep dive video would be good.
Both are Linux based. Xpeng has a mod on Android OS just like how Google has a mod on Android OS. Android OS isn’t known to be hackable otherwise google wouldn’t be where it is today.

This is being solved now, and you will be able to personalize this fully, and request new adaptations from Xpeng Motors! They can create lit of alternatives which can match others users... Fonts size needs to be adapted accordingly to what the user can see... But an Xpeng is not there to make you check everything, it transports you!

You can learn it backwards so much that easily could sleep on it. So yes, kind of a zero gravity.
I bet a 2024 Model Y is a tad more quiet and comfortable than your '22. Even just new tires can make a difference.
It's mindblowing how Tesla does not have oscillating ventilation. They invented the digital ventilation, and they didn't use it fully.
First time I see a chinese car tested that really challenge Tesla on efficiency, charging and software.
Agree on the ventilation, very strange. Regarding noise, that's not the case unfortunately, have measured newer Y too and it has the same level of noise as mine. And my tires has only rolled 6000km, so still new. (Drive it way too little 😂)

No, you can say "music is to loud!", or, "I am not deaf, put the music lower!", or "Hey Xpeng, you are so noisy", or "Tianji, why are you shouting like this?", or any other thing meaning quite this ... And you can continue talking and request lot of others adaptations, up to 6 at the same time, in 30 seconds vocal commande and when the windows are again closed others order can be taken to adapt others things. You are in Europa, so like for paper you are far backwards China, same for printing, same for ink, and same for cheap pencils... This is question of weeks, not centuries now with OTA updates! And I just saw the Renault Scénic test, and for the one pedal drive it will be applied later, but not on all car, the vehicle needs to be changed/renewed to benefit of the one pedal drive! This is not the case in Xpeng, anything is positively adaptable very quickly!

Such a good car, better than Tesla Y but the delivery numbers in EU remain very low for now.... I guess they are just entering but.... I was expecting a bit more sells. Lets see. At the moment, this is the first on my list ...when ONVO will land in EU we will see price and other aspects. + The design in the G6 is more up to date, more " modern". I think Tesla is just a People's car, it became popular and people just buy it for the sake of being a Tesla. The EU is making things hard for consumers.....but Xpeng is looking at producing in EU.

For ex BYD tried to compete agains't Tesla with similar Price = very low sale numbers... Tesla has a huge reputation here and a lot of dealerships.
Nobody will spend this money to a random unknown Chinese Brand...maybee Xiaomi Can Do a really good job because they are well known (ans i think they Can really sell well, love the su7 for my part)
And the supercharger network is a really great addition for the EV starter buyer.

Xpeng doesn't have live cameras and cannot record on action also the software is much greater on Tesla
