Is it just the GoPro lens or is there quite a few turns with the steering lock to lock. Seemed to be a lot of steering input required for gentle corners.
It's not the lens. I noticed that when I did the reverse and U-turn. But at the straight ahead, not so much. Until we drive it fast on the open road I can't comment. The steering has several modes Comfort-Standard-Sport and that might change the behaviour of the electric rack as well as the weight. I only drove it in the default setting in my very short drive. I do know it has speed-sensitive steering so I expect the ratio will change with speed, but it may be 'non-proportional to lock' at all speeds.
You can't give details on the main things people will be concerned about who are the dealers, how long do yo have to wait for parts, how reliable will they be, how much are insurance costs compared to Tesla or normal ICE cars and will they still be around in 5-10 yrs just because they are one of the biggest manufacturers doesn't mean they can't go broke as almost all the Chinesse cars makers are running at a loss.
Citroen just stopped selling cars in Australia. The emerging experience of byd and mg ev owners is Chinese built EVs are reliable. Xpeng G6 was launched in June 2023 so they have had time to iron out any mechanical issues. In respect to software Xpeng say they have 4000 engineers working on AI and ADAS and they update regularly. Experience with byd was in first few months of operation the spares came from China. For some reason I found Tesla insurance is more pricey compared to other EVs, in comparison our byd was just 10% more than our Volvo xc40! BYD sell more vehicles than numerous other brands in Oz so it's the first six months which is the risky period imho, lets hope the early adopters of Xpeng are compensated with a price which factors in the risk. Of course the insurance policy should include a rental.
It's so funny Aussies like to talk about how the car performs when THEY manually drive the car, while in China it's all about how capable G6 can handle crazily messy Chinese traffics all by itself. After version 5.3.0 upgrade, G6 is a far more capable and smart car than Y in China, period!
Who cares what elon says? He has a right to his opinion like everyone else. I'm not going to take it out on Tesla. As far as tarrifs go, Australia has nothing to lose because you have no auto industry like germany. The european car industry is going bye bye. Allowing chinese cars to flood the market will only speed that up. My guess is the german auto workers will be building chinese cars in the next 10 years.

Just for the record, as a Tesla owner too, I do really like them. The G6 has speed sensitive and (I think) mode-sensitive steering, so the # of turns may well change as speed, mode, and the amount of lock, changes. I think. I'll find out when we do a proper review. At low speed, on full lock, in normal mode, yes, lots of turns to keep the steering quite light.

I don’t wana dwelve into details, but when you buy Tesla you get an evolving OTA updates so it’s always fresh, plus now the coming robotaxi and near perfect FSD. So it’s full of surprises. There’s a reason why it’s selling in China, the country where it shouldn’t be
I hope they do. FSD looks incredible. But it's already happened and Tesla, having talked it up for years is now late to the party. A colleague in CA at the moment is catching Waymo robotaxis all over town and loving the experience. Is it stressful i asked? He said no, he's totally chilled. Come on Elon, let's have it. Here in Aus though, I don't think government is going to approve/certify/legalise it in a hurry. The wheels of government also move slowly.
Xpeng's XNGP is already widely used in China. Can Tesla's FSD handle the more complex scenarios (hundreds of millions of electric bikes share the roads with random speeds) in China? Let's see if it works or not early next year.
It looks nice, that's for sure. I would like to test drive one, one day. However, the software and interior setup looks like a copy of Tesla. Cannot see much innovation.
I'm a fairly practical person who wouldn't bother with any of these new brands from China, simply because of insurance issues. Insurance is already on average 20+30% more.....parts and battery concerns are far to prevalent just yet for me, just seems like cars are now phones, not worth anything for resale and almost throw away....but each to their own!
I can't imagine hating Elon so much that I would rather support communism and suppression of human rights... Wow, what exactly was it that triggered you? Was it his staunch support of absolute freedom of speech and thought?
I wish you cared reviewers could do a bit more research and give us some facts about the Chinese motors and how good they are especially the reliability over time. At least with Tesla we have had proven reliability for a long time. I would like to know if there have been many.Xpeng motor breakdowns.
The Xpeng G6 is likely to have a seven-year/unlimited-kilometer factory warranty, and the high-voltage battery is guaranteed for eight years/160,000 km in Australia.
Service network appears to be virtually non-existent. China has tight regulations for manufacturers and their dealers to be prepared in terms of service levels (extensive parts/ repair parts preparation) for new vehicle launches. Appears same not happening for export markets for those brands not establishing local presence.
What Tesla cant be beaten on is English language oriented ans designed UI, warranty reliablity and service, and supercharging. BYD, Zeekr, Xpeng, even Hyundai and Kia just cant match that
XPENG has 7 year warranty and 8 years on the battery. Charging is way faster that superchargers. So I don't know what you mean with 'cant be beaten on', it clearly does. The translation is another matter, there I agree.
If the batteries have no warranty, forget it...TONS of battery problems in Thailand with Chinese EV's...low quality, high temps not a good combo and battery swap cost almost the same as a new car
So many people, and some countries for that matter, insist on limiting free speech. In reality it is really to promote one political opinion over another. That is why some people insist on trying to stop free speech. Elon is too headstrong and rich for that to work. So to make decisions on what car you buy just because a person promotes free speech shows just how closed minded you are. That being said I am an Xpeng stock holder and love their products. Unfortunately I am in the States and we have 100% tariffs. I think to protect our overpaid union workers and bad auto company auto management. So I will never own an Xpeng. So I saved money by not buying another inferior over priced car and invested it. Just mu 2 cents.
Only problem is the China govt subsidiaries, or build quality. Tesla is just as bad re finish ,build quality. Agree certainly better looking than Tesla.
The gigafactory in Shanghai builds the best quality Tesla models. Elon had to send his Chinese engineers to Fremont Calif plant to teach them how to do it right. Chibese evs build quality far surpass everyone else. Why do you think Washington rushed to impose 100% tariff for protection, eventhough none is for sale there.
I don’t understand how this car looks nice ? Just another blob. If anything the model 3 and Y has always looked like Porsche. Observe the headlights next time you see one. But all this aside why do I wana gamble with a Chinese car with god knows what the quality is like in terms of hardware and software and what the reliability is like ? Tesla is tried n tested (not saying it’s perfect) but there’s already very good reviews for m3 since 2017. Especially with Shang hai built ones.
Yeah it is a bit blobby but so is a Macan which I think also looks OK. I'd rather have rounded and simple lines rather than a whole of contrived jaggy angles and tacked on bits. The Highland Tesla Model 3 I think is quite lovely and I really do like it. Previously it looked a bit like a fish from the front, but the revamp totally fixed that. Every other angle was already very nice. The Model Y I think looks a bit like a plump guppy from many angles, but I'm sure Tesla will fix that with the revamped Juniper styling (which we only have artist's impressions of at this stage).
I agree look maybe I should see it for myself cause usually videos don’t tell the story, but the front is giving me Hyundai Kona vibes, and Hyundai design language is 🤮 I never liked it..(as suggested by this channel, too many bits n jagged edges ..which this car isn’t). I have to admit MY can look better from front especially in white colour, yes it’s bit fishy,, but on black I cannot find a bad angle, notice it next time u drive towards it.anyway looks are very subjective. I have parked my MY next to a macan and cayenne on few occasions, and I sat for a minute trying to see which looks better you won’t appreciate the similarities until they’re right next to each other, the Porsche obviously has a higher hood cause it has an engine obviously. But in no way it has an edge over the Tesla that much .. especially that it costs nearly twice as much. Look I’m not saying Chinese is bad that’s a thing of past, as again this channel suggested everything is made in China including my phone and my Tesla, but in saying that i think it’s wise to give it some time before we judge, a car isn’t just looks and features it’s also peace of mind. Like iPhone and Tesla yes they’re made in China but US design and enforcing quality materials etc. Not compromising on R&D. Safety, etc. Again this maybe a duplicate and it’s cheaper,, but to me design & made in China vs Design in west , made China there’s a difference .. Remember the hype with that xiaomi car?? Only to have many issues and inferior build etc. Toyota took decades to become what it is today .. so yeah Time matters.
Check with Elon Musk. He uses Byd blade batteries for his model Y. I rather listen to an EV expert than some random know nothing in the comments section.
I'm sorry to hear you are making your decisions based on the opinions of one person, Stu. Get off it. Focus on the product and technology. Then you can bash Tesla with impunity, rather than as a whiny leftish. Got it? .
I wasn't bashing Tesla, Randy. In the video I said about half a dozen times how much I like the product, own the product and they're great cars. The new Model 3 looks great. I am observing what people are saying, simple that they love the car but are turned off by Elon's recent behaviour, statements and policies and so will look for something else. All along I've said you wouldn't NOT buy a GM car because you didn't like Mary Barra, or something like that. And I would still buy a Model 3 (second hand, because they're such great value and I like blinker stalks). It seems a lot of people wouldn't, though.

I do know it has speed-sensitive steering so I expect the ratio will change with speed, but it may be 'non-proportional to lock' at all speeds.
@@inCARnationAustralia Thanks for the reply, makes sense. Be interesting to see the full test drive.
such a narrow road, reminds me of Bangalore, India
Does G6 one pedal driving?
It has four levels of regen, but I didn't try them - yet. I gather the strongest level is similar to, but maybe not as strong as, Tesla's OPD.
👍 yes!
and not a Lada! 🤣🤣
No HUD, no buy.
Nice car, but imagine the price to insure this thing!
I'll find out when we do a proper review
Timely as my y is end of lease next year. Thanks to Tesla for introducing ev, but time to part ways
I would rather that green Land Rover, and yes Muck Fusk!
Will be good to see if they enable Sentry mode. It’s a must have
Yes it's a great feature of Tesla but it's not mentioned in the G6's specs. Luckily they have OTA updates, so surely it could be done.
I saw an icon for sentry mode when I took it for a test drive the other day. I didn't test it though.
@@mickjoebills thx for reply
Hard to see where a Tesla is better? Perhaps wait till after 10 October…
See how you feel when the model Y is driving its passengers around
Embarrassment in a model y

@@raymondschembri5042 I'm fortunate. I have legs and can walk to the station. It's good for me and I enjoy it. Yesterday's trip would have taken me longer to drive and park. I enjoy cars for the fun driving more than the daily snarl.
Reviews like these always like to add in controversial adjectives like "creepy" to keep Chinese brands in check.
No frunk, or access to Tesla supercharging network. Model Y Juniper is going to have to be something special to compete against the Xpung G6.
I can't take anyone seriously who cars about what the CEO says.
Check out how many turns he does on the steering wheel, I mean that alone is putting me off.
I never like those shape steering wheels anyway.
You're clearly a Tesla fanboy. Please stop hate spamming.
Nothing in my comment suggests hate lol maybe your Chinese translator isn’t making sense. I simply prefer Tesla brand over Chinesium.

I don’t wana dwelve into details, but when you buy Tesla you get an evolving OTA updates so it’s always fresh, plus now the coming robotaxi and near perfect FSD. So it’s full of surprises.
There’s a reason why it’s selling in China, the country where it shouldn’t be
I think Elon is in trouble (I hope), couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke
Musk's pricing policies are in response to the Chinese competition, so if you were an early EV adopter you will have depreciation pain.
Tesla's market share in Australia is about to drop to 2%.
"Tesla should be very worried" - no, it is an american brand, uncle sam will protect it.
Tesla is about to roll out fsd & robotaxis & you think they are worried when they are literally 1pyrs ahead of everyone else 😅😂
Robot taxi already happening in China.
Robotaxis are old news in China.
I agree 100%. I will never buy a Tesla due to Elon.
So, you would rather support human rights violations. Each to their own.
I can't imagine hating Elon so much that I would rather support communism and suppression of human rights... Wow, what exactly was it that triggered you? Was it his staunch support of absolute freedom of speech and thought?
is this the elon bad lunatic corner?
Same here
@@ro2778yes, you're in the minority fanboy
I wish you cared reviewers could do a bit more research and give us some facts about the Chinese motors and how good they are especially the reliability over time. At least with Tesla we have had proven reliability for a long time. I would like to know if there have been many.Xpeng motor breakdowns.
Their first car in Australia hasn't even been released so obviously there's no data yet. But yeah - for sure - something to watch with interest.
I'll try to follow up on that topic in the full review
stop trashing elon, your here to talk about cars.
*you're
just my luck. I've stumbled across the guy who dictates what people can and cannot say on their own channel. sheesh. how unlucky is that
What Tesla cant be beaten on is English language oriented ans designed UI, warranty reliablity and service, and supercharging.
@@petitbarzun actually that's true their warranties are very competitive which is amazing to see
If the batteries have no warranty, forget it...TONS of battery problems in Thailand with Chinese EV's...low quality, high temps not a good combo and battery swap cost almost the same as a new car
Batteries have 8 year warranty
Stop it fanboy
Toyota took decades to become what it is today .. so yeah
Time matters.
Made in China 😂 No thanks Chinese batteries blow up
I bet you have a Chinese made battery on your phone that you put into your pocket which is 1 inch away from your jewels.
lol tesla cars also uses Chinese batteries
Yep go for the Jaguar iPace instead mate
Check with Elon Musk. He uses Byd blade batteries for his model Y. I rather listen to an EV expert than some random know nothing in the comments section.
you better check if your phone and make sure it's made in china, or it might blow up otherwise just like those pagers in Lebanon
@@inCARnationAustralia Very well sir. Your comments in the video seemed otherwise.

@@mikereinfeld Spoke to them this week and they said at least another 3 - 4 weeks. No Australian-spec registered press G6 available at this stage.
By that time another half dozen Chinese manufacturers will probably have released new models the way it's heading. Get ready for Leapmotor C10, Smart #3, KIA EV5, BYD Sealion 7, ZeekR X, Deepal S07. It's going to nuts towards the end of the year. An invasion!
