I used 10 oz denim and 10 oz canvas for the hat shell and lining in this video. The interfacing is Pellon brand heavy fusible interfacing (not 100% sure of the type, maybe Pellon 809?).

I have been a garment sewer for a long time but was never happy with the results. So I gave it up and started quilting and love that and it has improved my accuracy so I want to try garment sewing again. I recently found your channel and have enjoyed watching you make things, your process is clear and makes sense to me, so I’m diving back in with the bucket hat! This hat pattern is just what I needed. My daughter teaches kindergarten and they have to wear hats whenever they’re outside ( we live in South Australia) so she has asked if I could make her a couple. How hard would it be to add a ponytail hole at the back? Like you I would like to make them reversable. Any hints appreciated 👍

Hi Casey, I've always wanted a sun-hat style of hat. I live in southern Spain and we get lots of hot sunny days here. And so even though I'm a newbie to sewing I made the sun hat style but made a too big size and it was loose on my head. My wife suggested that I sew an inner band of towelling to help make it fit better. It does fit well now and I use that hat when gardening and out walking. But now I've just completed your second hat pattern (bucket hat style) and I love that even more - and so that will be my going out hat. I'm thrilled to bits. Thank you very much for your video and patterns and for helping me along the sewing path. Oh, and now my wife wants me to make her one of your hats too. I'm over the moon. Thank you again!

Thanks for the pattern. My head is a little big too. I made a bucket hat a few weeks ago and it's a little snug and not very deep so I feel like the hat sits barely on the head. Glad I have enough fabric to make another one.

Great pattern! I love both views and the three sizes. I have a larger head as well, so most hats labeled "one size fits most" do not fit me. Now I am off to your website to get the pattern. Thanks, Casey.

Hi! This hat looks great! Will make it in denim. But I have a question: on your video you are talking "side seams" (adding eyelets), but looking your pattern- there will be only one seam connecting brim and side. So- should this seam be on side of the hat or on back? OR should I cut brim and side out in two pieces? A bit confused here at the moment :)
I had to cut that piece in two piece because I was limited on scraps, so I just positioned the grommets on either side of each of the seams. I think I'd put the seam in the back of the hat if I only had the one seam and maybe position the grommets on the sides of the hat :) But you can definitely cut it in two pieces (just add a little seam allowance). Hope that helps!

I have a small head but a lot of hair. When I lost all my hair during chemo I measured my head. It was 22 inches! My husband told me I had a very little head.
Well mine is about 23 (which was smaller than I was expecting, but apparently too big for most "one size fits all" hats 😅). You would fit the medium size of this pattern :)
