I dont like the new art style in general. I think they should have picked the SM3 or SMW art style to remake it. The game boy game was pretty good actually.

People would have been all over this if it was released in the 16-bit era. The controls are an upgrade over the Game Boy version but the physics are still pretty faithful to what the original was. The graphics would have been impressive in the 16-bit days too.
