The First 16-Bit Platformer?
มุมมอง 9624 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thanks for Watching! I am well aware that Bonk's adventure is not "literally" the first 16-bit platformer, (Keith Courage in Alpha Zones and Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle are two of the very few that came before) but I would argue that it is the first notable one. It's pretty fun.

Terrible Full Motion Video Games! (Part 1)
Hey all you hardcore Legend Of Zelda fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made Legend Of Zelda 32-bit video game that acts like a long-lost title for the original PlsyStation 1 that’s not only a must-play title we all didn’t know we wanted it back then, official or otherwise, nor it’s a absolutely impressive sight to behold, official or otherwise, but it’ll also make you wish that Nintendo PlayStation (minus the backstabbing part altogether) came into existence back then call PSXxperience Of Zelda! and it’s not only fully compatible with the actual video game home console up to present day video game home console and beyond, but it also features a online and offline COM adventure battle race royale mode, a Super Mario Maker-style levels/adventure story maker mode complete with infinite customization atmospheric hub worlds that’ll make Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage atmospheric hub worlds a serious run for it’s atmospheric hub worlds money, boss battle/mini boss battle mode, time attack mode, customization your very own adventure hero and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE STUFF in this very game alone that it’s a outright never-ending indescribable fun sight to behold for all the right reasons why, period!
I do not get community members that respond to a free homebrew projects like Gordon Ramsey being served under-cooked chicken.
Dark Keep looks absolutely gorgeous. It looks like those modern games that try to vaguely imitate a 2600 style aesthetics (a la Fist of Awesome or the minigame levels in Five Nights at Freddy's). I would never have guessed it's a real Atari game running on an actual TIA and 6507.
That 16TB hard drive is looking more and more appealing as the days pass by so I can have a massive backup for all my games.
That ending was quite... something XD. Excellent video as always!!!
Not surprised it took this long for Saturn homebrew to show up, the system was notoriously difficult to program for - kinda like the Atari Jaguar, but I don't know if it's for same reasons. Atari's Jaguar documentation was terrible, so instead of using the new chips that were designed for the Jaguar, a lot of games used the Jaguar's Motorola 68000 to do the bulk of the work... the 68000 are also the same chips that drive the Genesis and Neo Geo, hence why the Jaguar really doesn't look that much better than any of the 16-bit consoles/ Also I don't really disagree with you calling it Sega's forgotten console between the Genesis and Dreamcast, but only here in the west. Interestingly enough, it is Sega's best selling console in their home country and actually beat out the N64 for 2nd place (yeah PSX was just 1st that generation by a *lot* lol). Sega still lost money on it because their management was just legendary levels of bad... much like Atari around/through Jaguar years. I've gone on long enough so I'll spare further detail, but my god, Sega of Japan's management during the ludicrous debacle of the 32X saga was outright and intentionally self-destructive behavior, like wtf dudes lmao
That outro screed; yeesh!
My captain, certainly the crew in the ship "sonic fans comunity" are fellas drunked in speed and blinded by their treasures, vault filled with only rings and deranged by chaos emeralds (keep your safe distance).
Pokemon Prism and Pokemon Unbound ❤
I rushed to download like 7 romhacks that i planned to use later. good thing an archive was made available.
Move it to China.
THIS IS HORRIBLE :( PLEASE DONT LEAVE US!
Internet Archive, my guy. Mediafire, 1fichier, even Google Drive. Anything works if you just use 7zip, add to archive, and encrypt file names. Add the password to each archive inside a text file and gice a copy of 7zip mobile alongside an instruction video of how to use it insude the folder the archive is in. I can give you a video I made showing a friend how to use 7zip mobile.
My favorite Billy Joel song is a 3/10
SInce romhacking down what other n64 rom hacking sites are there?
If you want a way to upload patches or romhacks, upload them to the internet archive. Make your own hub of files of the games you talk about. It is the cheapest and safest route for now.
Alex Lee‘s: Take It randomly in the short
Ok, this ranking is so interesting. I agree and disagree with many of the picks. Here’s my top 10 (in order) Summer, Highland Falls And So It Goes The Downeaster Alexa Rosalinda’s Eyes Honesty The Stranger Just The Way You Are Prelude/Angry Young Man Scenes From An Italian Restaurant Honourable mentions would’ve been: • Don’t Ask Me Why • You May Be Right • Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) • She’s Always A Woman • New York State Of Mind (And so many others)..
Unfortunately they're still in beta
What no bro Im 17 badges in 😂
The world seems to suck more and more each day…
The world is ending...
In their forum, they were talking about that Nightcrawler decided to close the site due to some admins' bad behaviour.
Unfortunate. Good to know this wasn't due to a lawsuit or anything like that, IPS patches contain 0 bytes of the original ROM so any sort of copyright claim would be total nonsense. The site has already been downloaded and archived in it's entirety, someone will pick up the pieces I'm sure.
For what it’s worth, almost 12 gig download available on archive. I got mine
The ROM Hacking site put up an archive of all the data from the site. This is better than what Xentax (a game file research forum) did when they shut down, so now there's a ton of game data tools that are lost media.
i literal discovered the site today... oh my lord (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)
long story short: the Gods of Nyn-Tin-Toes has smited rom hacking website because it has a plumber named mallaria or something idk
Hey Captain Jack, I would love to see a video from you based around “the top 10 (insert game here) ROM hacks“ to get before the community website gets shut down. Whether that’s in a long form videos or broken up into a more franchise focusd videos. For example your favorite super Mario world, the legend of Zelda link to the past, or Metroid. Titled something like, “top 10 romhacks to play before the website shuts down” Thanks for all of your content over the years ❤
10 seconds of research where the owner says there's an archive.
everyone can thank discord users for the site shutting down
It's the end of the era, sure we'll have more rom hacks in the future but having them all in one place was a godsend.
Pity you didn't review Sam's Journey. I know it was originally a C64 home-brew, but the NES port is excellent. There's even a free demo you can download to play the first few levels.
NOOO oh my goodness. 🤦♂️
remember when we had rights? So many 20+ year old sites being removed for completely nonsense reasons.. why did we let so many people take so much power, and why haven't we retaliated?
The boiling frog metaphor. that's how rights are taken away without people rebelling.
@@JamLaMermelada i jumped out of the pot right away, I recall many people doing that, and fewer over time. also this is actually pretty sudden, most of the big problems only started... well, 4 to 8 years ago..
Save it or else
The only way Nintendo can get rid of all piracying is to delete the entirety of Internet, but that would mean war against all the major websites and hosters.
This site is probably one of the most important retro gaming and video gaming sites there is. Is there a game that is only in Japanese and you can't play it? Don't worry, someone already spent years on a fan translation patch so now you can enjoy it. Is there some old retro game that is broken? Don't worry, someone has made a hack to change all of the broken stuff so that now you can enjoy it. So many new and creative mods, translations exist and this is a place to find them. The site cannot be taken down, someone needs to stand up to maintain it.
I haven’t looked into it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is internal drama. Back when I was active in the forums, there was a general air of arrogance in some people. Most people were welcoming to newbie romhackers, yes, but there was a kind of tension between programmers and translators vs folks who just enjoyed the hacks. I know I was pretty annoying back in the day (I was in my teens). A member said my comments were white noise. Another member defended me. The member who defended me was banned (to be fair to them, the admin left a comment saying to stop the discussion there before). I voluntarily left the forums after that. That’s just one example of the tension that used to occur. There were issues with other members from time to time. Mostly clashing view points. That said, it is sad to see the non-forum side go away. That’s the most useful part to non-romhackers. Like the member who defended me said (and I paraphrase): if you only let romhackers in, who’s going to play your hacks? I don’t know if the forum side is going away too but that was also an invaluable source for romhackers to collaborate and learn from each other. It’s a disappointing situation all around. Edit: I read the post. There were some bad faith actors and NC was being doxxed by his collaborators. All NC wanted to pass the site on. It seems like most of the site will still be accessible on the internet archive.
What? Noooooo! Damn. I got a good amount of hacks from that. Another relic of the old internet busted.
Thanks for letting us know. What a total bummer.
Not a fan of this news by any means but hopefully the hacks that are on the site could be reuploadeed somewhere else when you can't download anymore.
There is just no point pretending that social media is social in 2024: the internet should be a great way to make friends with common interests... but it isn't. Instead, it provides the same horrifying lesson in the extent to which the vast majority of people are stupid and malign, again and again.
Thanks for adding Starfox EX to your list!

Dude fuck nooooo.
Mi captain what a sad news of this shipwreck, but you can create a repository on a new ship (internet archive) with the treasures you show us in these pixel seas, we'll keep following your lead.
The best solution to hosting files that can be downloaded through links: Make original games. It's not that hard, guys. Draw some sprites and learn a bit of programming.
And when AI takes over programming and it becomes impossible for humans to learn it?
I wouldn't know what happens in your fantasies, but what you said has no bearing on reality. AI isn't taking over programming, and humans will always have to learn it.@@ALegitPooperVideos
Just like in the same way the best solution to being a pompous asshole is to just shut the fuck up. Not hard to do at all.
@@ALegitPooperVideosnever gonna happen. Mostly because AI is trash and humans still enjoy programming but also like. The learning resources won't be thanos snapped out of existence? You'll still be able to install languages on your computer and learn them, I genuinely have no clue what you're blathering about.
I stopped looking at homebrew games for the Atari era systems long ago. Not that I think they're bad, but because to be perfectly honest, I'm never going to buy a physical cartridge of them. And for approximately 99% of the games, the only version you can download to play in emulators is either a limited demo version, or the work in progress versions. The full, final version gets burned to a ROM, released as a cartridge and is almost never available on the net as a ROM file. Not even after the cartridge sells out and a decade passes. I don't begrudge anyone the right to make money off their creation, but when you can't even buy a cartridge any more, why is the community still so fiercely protective of the ROM file? And where have all the ROM dumpers disappeared to? Modern games get pirated while they're still in the store, but nobody will dump Atari homebrew games from years ago?
Thanks for the info Captain, I'm still gonna sail with ya!
