    The hitbox of the piranha plants is bigger in the All-Stars versions which means that you can't jump over them anymore

      This and the breaking blocks stuff is what I don't like. I prefer the original.

  • @Lu9_ST
    @Lu9_ST หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    More stuff:
    • Several enemies (notably the Piranha Plant) have changed hitboxes
    • The bonus areas have their own unique music now
    • In addition to the music when you face Bowser in the castles, in 8-4 it plays a different song
    • Due to a programming mistake, hitting a block such as a breakable brick sends Mario slightly upwards instead of downwards
    • Luigi has his own set of sprites instead of being a Mario recolor (this applies to the other All-Stars games as well)
    • Since it is a direct port, many glitches from the original game are still present, while others, such as entering the minus world were fixed (though you can still clip into the walls)
    • Doing a "bullet bill glitch" on World 8 causes the game to softlock since Mario now has the new animation when entering the castle after the flagpole
    • The backgrounds have parallax scrolling, and other SNES exclusive effects
    • There are more particle effects than in the original, such as when collecting coins
    • Sound effects were added to some events that previously had none, like Lakitus throwing spinies and Hammer Bros tossing hammers
    • The sneak peek screen before the level starts can be slightly skipped now by pressing B or A, no skip in the original
    • The underwater area in 8-4 keeps the castle music instead of changing to the underwater music like in the original
    There might be even more, but you'd really have to dig in deep and know the games mechanics inside and out

    I love the art style of All Stars. It’s truly a really well-made remake.

      I both love it and miss the purity of the original. I think if the original could have had parallax, busier backgrounds, and maybe just 1-2 more sprite colours, it would have been perfect.

    6:31 in the nes version, this is actually because of the palette of the mushroom platforms, since it shares the same palette as the flagpole. this applies to all other colored flagpoles.

    All Stars is actually a port of all 4 games with enhanced visuals, physics and bug fixes. There are glitches that remain though

    • @seymourkrelborn4780
      @seymourkrelborn4780 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@alanthevideomaker646 The brick block physics is actually due to an error in the code of a + instead of a -, so when Mario hits a block in All-Stars he'll gain upward velocity instead of downward velocity. This of course doesn't make sense, in fact Mario can hit a brick at the top end of his jump and suddenly GAIN upward speed again

    On the NES, the majority of enemies change palette colors in underground and castle levels (and underwater levels too technically, but that's only seen in the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2/Lost Levels). In All-Stars, only the Goombas change palette depending on location, while other enemies do not. This also applies to the Bullet Bills in the original 6-3, though that level's palette was totally overhauled for All-Stars, anyway.
    In All-Stars, you get a time bonus for finishing a castle level. On the NES, there is no time bonus for castle levels.
    In the NES, if you get hit as big Mario, while invincible, you can touch an enemy (except firebars for some reason), and the enemy won't kill you as long as you keep touching it. This doesn't work in All-Stars.
    In All-Stars, if you beat 8-4 as big Mario or fire Mario, you'll start 1-1 with that power-up. On the NES, you always start 1-1 as small Mario.
    The invisible underwater Piranha Plant in 8-4 on the NES is visible in All-Stars.

    The way you break brick blocks is slightly different between versions. In NES/Famicom, you get bumped back down. In SNES, you don't and get pulled up a bit instead. This applies to Lost Levels as well.

    • @seymourkrelborn4780

    I always wished that future releases of SMB1 after All-Stars used the All-Stars version instead of the nes. It’s such a better version. Also, tbh I wish they used the ending from The Lost Levels in it,

    • @Tom-jw7ii
      @Tom-jw7ii หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the NES version is a little better just because the blocks don’t work right in this one. Other than that it’s kinda just a case of whichever graphics and sound you prefer, and I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other in that regard.
