    Great video Thanks for explaining this to me. I'm having a problem with the air pump for the air ride. And they said to check the ground. So now I know where to look for them. And I can make sure it was installed right. Thanks again

    Still chasing that electrical problem on my Road King...So far 30 hours spent going thru the schematics and ohming out circuits and still cannot get to the bottom of the accessory fuse blowing out on start up only. I cannot wait until I find out what the problem is and fix it but I will make sure that I write something for everyone who follows this channel just in case they run across this problem and it has them stumped....So far Im still have not found the problem....Stumped for now in Florida...

    I own a shovelhead you need to use loctite on the battery Cables because the battery box is mounted to rubber isolators Also very important to rout the negative cable properly. I have a twin cam also but when riding the shovel I always carry a 10 mm wrench because I had the cables come loose numerous times

    Always accurate and relevant. This time of year a lot of our northern brothers are taking their ships out of mothballs. Maybe the off season was the time to add accessories. The “second” ground was mysterious to me before now. Thanks for the great info!

    I'd like to add the importance of the second ground cable between the engine and the frame on the rubber mount bikes... If that fails, the starter power will take the next easiest path to ground... often you find the clutch cable smoking and seized up because the plastic liner melted.

    Question. Why does my 2007 Harley Davidson Softail Custom not have a ground on the starter? And when I go to start, with new starter, it half cranks then click click click?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      The starter motor of course is attached to motor, motor attached to frame, battery ground attached to frame. You CAN add a ground lead to one of the mounting bolts. Now the click click click….how old is your aftermarket battery? Have it tested. Sounds like your CCA are failing under pressure…..Doc

    Hey doc
    Question...I have an 2018 cvo road glide custom
    All o a sudden the starter quit dash lights good when I hit the ign switch
    Click everything went dark and would come back on
    Tested battery and
    Relay
    Replaced battery same issue
    So solenoid would be likely
    Went to remove starter and bolts were very loose
    Likely just a bad ground??

    I took the battery out of my 2008 FLSTC.
    I was down 7 months with a surgery and recovery.
    I forgot whether the second ground wire, the scrawny one,
    goes with the regular ground or onto the positive terminal.
    Doc or anyone? Ty.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark nothing should go from negative to positive. If you are describing the battery tender connection, red terminal goes to the positive +, and the black terminal goes to the negative side of the battery. Thanks ~ Doc

    Let me blow you'all minds.... Ready?.... The electric DC current of any battery you had ever seen ACTUALLY moves from the NEGATIVE side to the Positive side when the circuit is complete.... ANNNDDDD a battery NEVER gets discharged, NEVER..... What u call "discharged" "dead" is in reality a battery that is balanced, meaning the positive and negative side of the battery have equal amount of electrones (equal potential, equal Voltage) ...... !BOOMMMMM!

      It’s easy when you take the time to learn. Harley Davidson has a service manual just for electrical troubleshooting. It shows you the color of the wire. It’s place in a connector. Where and how the connector looks. How to assemble/disassemble it….if you can read and comprehend. It should be a walk in the park. It has wiring diagrams…. Don’t get me wrong. It can be intimidating but even a legend helps read their schematics. I say you pick up a book. Skim through it and you’ll be surprised how easy it is. I’m self taught. I’m always learning. But just today I learned how to read their schematics. It’s awesome! I can troubleshoot my bike w out having to take it to a shop. It might take me time. But that time will build experience. I don’t do it daily but sooner than later I’ll be more comfortable w it. There are still some things only the dealer can do. Like flash your radio to allow amplifiers to transmit sound to your speakers…. It’s proprietary software not for consumer use. But give it a shot. Search TH-cam for help. I’m here daily just for that. What he’s describing is clean ground and dirty ground. Clean ground is part of the cab bus system. Dirty ground is for your starter…. I just learned that today while going over the book
      Follow this guy. He’s good!
