93 is definitely over 20 years ago, it's even over 30 years ago! Also if want another Brewer to do, I'd love to see a Rob Deer or Gorman Thomas video, some of the OG TTO guys.
Richie Sexson was my first favorite player. My dad took me to four Brewers games in 2001 and Richie homered in all four of them. I was 8 years old and was just starting to understand the game. Seeing a 6'7" giant make Bernie Brewer go down the slide so many times was the coolest thing in the world to me.
In the early 00s as a tall, thin high school first baseman from Milwaukee (Richie is only 1/4 of a $5 footlong taller than me), Sexson was my hero. He was a phenom with the Crew and I was heartbroken when he was traded. I'm glad to see him get some due with this vid.
that 2008 topps richie sexson card is forever burned into my memory. lyle overbay, adam dunn, grady sizemore and jack cust also randomly pop into my thoughts from time to time 💀
Thank you so much for the video, Jolly. Your sentiment at the beginning sums up my experience perfectly. As a lifelong Brewers fan, Richie Sexson was one of the few bright spots of those teams during my childhood. He’s remained my favorite Brewer ever since and I never thought he got credit for how good he was in his prime. Best video you’ve done to date.
That 99 Indians lineup was mega loaded. Manny knocked in 165, Robbie Alomar knocked in 120, Sexson and Thome both knocked in 100, plus Justice, Lofton and Vizquel were all plus hitters. I believe they’re the last team to score 1,000 runs.
I quite literally saw Richie Sexson's name on Reddit on morning, and later that day this video was up on TH-cam. Richie Sexson was one of my favorite players growing up that wasn't on my favorite team.
Richie Sexson was on a Griffey Junior baseball game on the N64. That was my introduction to the player. He became one of my favorites because he had a huge plate indicator and MASHED.
In 07 and 8 there were bars in Seattle (Norm's was one I think) that had a weeknight special where the beers only cost Richie Sexson's batting average x 10.
Sexson underrated slugger for sure. Wonder if Cleveland hung onto him instead of another power hitting prospect they had Russell Branyon. I get the Indians needed pitching at the time. 9:30 those Mariners commercials were so great.
Love that a Mariners commercial got some love, you sent me back to being 8 when I heard “biiiig richieeeee.” 2005 is the first offseason I remember hearing about players we acquired, and I distinctly remember the hype around getting Beltre *and* Sexson. And of course it turned out exactly the way it would for the M’s.
23/24 year old mariners fan here- RICHIE SEXSON was my favorite player growing up so my club penguin name had a 44 at the end. Now he’s being succeeded by Julio (and preceded by Mike Cameron)
I had the pleasure of playing for Richie at Summit High School in Bend, Oregon my senior year. Our team would quote that Big Richie commercial all the time 😂 Thank you for giving Richie the recognition he deserves. (PS he is as cool as his name)
Another great vid JollyOlive! One underrated 90s player my dad loves to bring up is Greg Vaughn, would love to see you deep dive that guy in a future video!
People won’t believe this but Richie was friends with my neighbor growing and they both went to prairie high school. My dad coached against him. Look it up.
Jolly, thank you so much for making these videos. You are doing a great service chronicling this great game and these great players in such an entertaining way.
Idk if this would make a good video, but I would love to hear more about players that seemed to get better with age, some recent players that come to mind for me are Nelson Cruz and Edwin Encarnacion as they both started absolutely raking in their 30s
I posted this on the Travis Hafner video but thought I'd repost here When I was a kid I played a ton of MLB 06: Road to the show On my team, we had myself, Richie Sexson, and Travis Hafner. We probably hit a combined 150+ HR each year. Good times and I am happy that you have reminded me of these great memories with the last 2 videos about them :)
Well also in my franchise in MLB 06 The Show, Carl Crawford stole 1200 bases and Aubrey Huff hit 550 career homeruns. That game got quite nutty when it comes to careers.
"As a child any name with sex in it is the funniest" What an immature and absolutely disgusting point of view. I have never heard something so ridiculous and offensive in my entire life. I will not stand for this slander. Everyone knows that names with "Butt" are the funniest and "Cox" is a close second.
I'm a DBacks fan and was watching the game when he blasted that 503-foot shot off the Jumbotron against the Cubs in 2004. As soon as the ball left the bat, I literally spit some beer out. That ball was 20 feet off the ground when it went over the pitcher's head and was an absolute piss-missile.
Ima just throw out some player suggestions: Carlos Lee, Bobby Abreu, Vicenete Padilla (villain ep?), Joel zumaya, Edwin Jackson. Just a few off the top of my head.
so many unsung heroes in that era. richie sexson and travis hafner etc were absolute monsters. I miss watching rich blast homers dead center in arizona. the indiands in the 90s were a legit created team in a video game like hall of famers/mvps and cy youngs and potential hall of famers all over the place
Richie Sexson is my Roman Empire. But for real, he was one of my favorite players as a kid. I have so many great memories watching him on the Mariners. Plus theres nothing more magical than watching an 8'4 dude pull of the splits
Name was always good for a chuckle coming up. Somehow just today I realized his name is Richard Sexson. Can’t help thinking his dad knew what he was doing.
I do remember being a kid and watching him in the all star game just hoping my dbacks will get it sometime.... And then one holiday i was in vacation at my homestate and i clicked on the dbacks mlb page and man!!! It happened!!! I was so excited and i forecasted great years coming for him in Arizona... Damn, that was shocking...
Next big guy that gonna come to the mlb scene soon is the Yankees Spencer Jones. 6’7 tremendous power, runs like a deer and plays CF. I cannot wait to see him in the mlb level.
He was my favorite player when I was a tiny brewer’s fan of those teams because who else would it be? I think I cried a bit when his trade got announced lol (I was like 4 to be fair)
I certainly don't remember Sexon being underrated at the time. When he signed with the Mariners Sexon was a stud grab! Bob Melvin never had a chance. Not after Sweet Lou. He had a great first season, but flipping the record in 2004 had him at the end of a very short leash.
Hit 9 homers in 23 games on the 2004 Diamondbacks Always saw that on the back of his baseball card and would do the math thinking…”In a 162 game average he would’ve been on pace to hit 63 homers”
15 grand slams is pretty good on the all time list. I liked him on the Mariners right up until he went from "Big Richie" to sadly washed up in the blink of an eye. Props on the Bob Wickman reset, that guy had some of the "best" teeth of all time, they were nearly British in their aggression level.
I need a video about Ryan Schimpf being like 3 years too early to being considered a stud, but SLG & OPS werent as valued as AVG at the time so he didn't last long in the league. I truly believe he would've been Max Muncy before Max Muncy
Hey Olive big fan was wondering if you could do a short video on Fernando Rodney’s 2012 season I was shocked to see him get mvp votes and upon seeing his numbers he was solid!
It boggles my mind how many Ms fans remember Sexson as a bust. His first 2 seasons were so good, but he just fell off. Also I miss the Ms commercials...
Need to see the Dave Kingman video! 400 bombs and once played for 4 teams in a season. Granted he was from the 70's and 80's so the kids won't know who he is.
Other brewer players who deserve a deep dive on how good they really were: I mean just look at the magic of the 2008-11 teams, Ben sheets (the one bright spot on that rotation, never ending a season with negative WAR) Yovanni Gallardo, the stretch of when hoffman was on the team, especially weird because the brewers were bad those years, Rickie Weeks (admittedly just an ok player), corey hart and his fall off after leaving, Robin Yount is not talked about nearly enough for how great of a player he was, same with Molitor, and the brewer legend himself, Don Money, unfortunately, those 90s teams dont have much to talk about
You should do a breakdown of the Braves 14 year division winning streak, highlighting their regular season successes followed by their inevitable playoff production dropoff.
Roger Clemens deserves a video for how great he was during his presumably clean age 23 to 35 prime years Those first 3200 innings alone makes him a top 4 pitcher (easily) in the liveball era. 100 WAR, 152 ERA+, 5 Cys, should have had 7. Arguably could have had 8 or 9.
3 or 4 more Healthy years and we are talking about 450+ HR’s totally clean in the Steroid Era. He’d be someone who’d stick on a HOF Ballot the whole time for sure. Great player
Had a Sexson brewers jersey from goodwill as my first jersey ever, brought it to school and we all laughed because it said sex, always love the brewers content!
The 1999 Indians were one of the most explosive offenses of their generation, being the only team since 1949 to score over 1000 runs. Too bad they couldn't pitch. If only they had traded Jaret Wright for Pedro Martinez.
Please give me credit for HARASSING you to make this video. I’ve been asking for years. You’re welcome
Keep on harassing. 👏
That’s sad smh
@@Joeglass44😂😂😂
Penikkkk legend. Loved Richie Sexson when I was young
Get a life
I love how the Jolly Olive always talks about all of these forgotten players from when I was growing up. I always look forward to these videos

Also if want another Brewer to do, I'd love to see a Rob Deer or Gorman Thomas video, some of the OG TTO guys.
Not just a TTO guy, but one who played up the middle (CF). Those guys are exceedingly rare.
I have a Rob Deer Starting Lineup on my wall and a Richie Sexson (Mariners) McFarlane figure too.
Teddy Higueria!
Do one on Carlos Gomez and the idiocy that ensued every time he got on base.
Richie Sexson was my first favorite player. My dad took me to four Brewers games in 2001 and Richie homered in all four of them. I was 8 years old and was just starting to understand the game. Backyard Baseball 2003 legend Richie Sexson
I hope Richie Sexson comes to MLB the Show because he deserves his own cards
Absolutely, the card would be crazy fun
Huge strike zone
I agree I would LOVE his card! Same with Magglio Ordonez!
Well You Got Your Wish He's Now In MLB The Show 24
@@jonathanwashington9199 I came here after getting his card in The Show haha
“Let’s turn the clock back to 1993 now, which is somehow over 20 years ago” is a Philomena Cunk type quote
Cunk is so awesome.
1007 Runs scored, unfortunately ran into the buzzsaw that was peak Pedro Martinez!
It is a crime the 90s Indians never won a world series. Thome, Manny, Belle, Lofton, Omar, the Alomar Brothers, plus spill pitching. Such a shame
I never realized the 2004 Diamondbacks had both 6' 7" Sexson AND 6' 10" Randy Johnson. That's 13.5ft of pure intimidation!
My 7th birthday party was at Richie Sexson Bobblehead Day at Miller Park. He’ll always hold a special place in my baseball heart.

Sexson underrated slugger for sure. Wonder if Cleveland hung onto him instead of another power hitting prospect they had Russell Branyon. I get the Indians needed pitching at the time.
9:30 those Mariners commercials were so great.
I hated Russel. He sucked and struck out all the time
Branyon was like the Joey Gallo at the time. HR or nada. Another one is Chris Carter another slugger (one that played on the As in the 2010s)
I remember him hitting the flagpole in dead center at Minute Maid Park, it was in play even though he blasted it over 450 feet. 😊
Love that a Mariners commercial got some love, you sent me back to being 8 when I heard “biiiig richieeeee.” 2005 is the first offseason I remember hearing about players we acquired, and I distinctly remember the hype around getting Beltre *and* Sexson. That he was
MLB Power Pros (aka Baseball With Funko Pops)
Great video. Seeing Shawn Green’s name pop up at one point makes me hope you’ll do a video on him sometime.
As a Mariners fan, I've always loved Richie Sexson
I was surprised no one mentioned him in that homer draft, despite the funny name this dude hit bombs. Great stuff as always jolly
I forgot about this guy, thanks man, appreciate the reminder of one of the big and talls
