Verlander, Scherzer, Price, Sanchez, Porcello. The 2014 Tigers rotation has 8 Cy Youngs, 5 ERA titles, A Triple Crown, An MVP, and lead the league in Strikeouts 9 times. As a Tigers fan I still want to vomit thinking about how we wasted this.

This video perfectly encapsulates the 2012-2014 Detroit Tigers except that they had even more pitching, one of the top offenses in the league, but the bullpen blew games and the bats went quiet when we needed them the most (the 2012 WS sweep and 2014 ALDS). The 2013 rotation is arguably one of the best rotations assembled for a team ever and it can be argued that it got even better in 2014.

I’m similarly sad as a former Cleveland Indians fan. I didn’t spend 35 years (I’m 40) idolizing the Guardians; I don’t know who that team is so I stopped caring.
The Tribe getting reverse swept in the WS against the Cubs was the last thing I ever watched on TV with my dad (RIP) before he passed. Born in 1950, he never saw his beloved Browns win a Super Bowl nor the Indians win the World Series. Cleveland’s teams that lost two WS in the ‘90s were legendary teams. Vizquel, Thome, Belle, Baerga, my personal childhood idol Kenny Lofton… later on that team fielded some of the best players of the last few decades. Sizemore was a HOF talent whose reckless outfield play cut his career short. So many Cy Young winners were of course traded away. But while most baseball fans remember Sabathia as the long-time Yankees ace, he was perhaps the best pitcher ever to take the mound for the Tribe in my lifetime.
So many talented rosters, magical seasons, elite pitchers, bats, fielders… and nothing to show for it. And now they’re gone forever. I dunno who these Guardian people are but they don’t mean a dang thing to me.

I think in hindsight winning in Citizens Bank Park with your pitching staff is hard. That’s not what the ‘08 team was about. Obviously Hamels was great, Brett Myers was okay, and Moyer was an aging wonder. But really it was having a great bullpen of Madson and Lidge combined with the 1-6 being gangbusters.

2005 was the year I, a Houstonian, got into baseball. Them getting swept in the World Series completely broke seven-year-old me. Looking back now, with how we’ve been absolutely spoiled with playoff riches the past eight years, I can look back and appreciate this a lot more. I’m mostly satisfied that Biggio and Bagwell even made the Fall Classic at all considering how many of the greats never even did that, and I’m also really happy for the Southside finally breaking the Black Sox Curse as doing so was simply an important moment for baseball, no other way around it.

Edit: the rest of the league was doing it too, multiple current and former MLB players are on record saying it wasn’t only the Astros. Lucas Giolito, Steven Souza, Joey Votto, Erik Kratz, and even the original rat, Mike Fiers.

I didn't bring up those points for that very reason. Nonetheless the fact that he didn't take the "pieces of metal" as he puts it shows he went easy on the Astros. Literally every team would take the trade of a WS title in exchange for $5 million, a couple draft picks, and some bad press, don't act like that was much a punishment at all. Congrats on winning the division this year by the way.

All 5 members of the 2011 Phillies rotation posted an ERA+ over 100, as did their top 5 arms out of the bullpen. The rotation of Roy Halladay (163), Cliff Lee (160), Cole Hamels (137), Roy Oswalt (104), and Vance Worley (127) set the table. Coming out of the bullpen were Kyle Kendrick (119), Michael Stutes (106), Antonio Bastardo (146), and David Herndon (116), with Ryan Madson closing (162) after Brad Lidge went on the disabled list. Kyle Kendrick was also the Phillies' spot starter, starting 15 games during the season (mainly as a fill-in for Oswalt when he injured his back).
The Phillies lost the NLDS 3-2 to the eventual champion Cardinals. "1-bloody-nil" to those that know.

Or if Beltran hadn't gone off to the Mets.

The Astros could not win during those years because they would strand 3-4x more runners than they could get across the plate. In typical Houston sports fashion, Drayton McLane would hire aging big names at the ends of their careers. Carlos Lee was a prime example. They had enough talent to keep fans in the seat to pay the salaries and the newly-built Minute Maid Park, but they were just a little better than average with the exception of a couple of postseason runs.

The reference to Roger Clemens being great in the postseason irked me. Clemens was a dog in the postseason for the first decade of his career. It only changed when he went on steroids.

The next big three is already in motion:
    Ohtani
    Yamamoto
    Buehler/Glasnow
