Profar is your favorite Padre’s favorite Padre. And according to some stats I found, he leads all of baseball in Weighted Runs Created by Smiling Plus.
What’s crazy about his return to the Padres last year is that he helped the Padres make a late playoff push in a lost season where a bunch of guys were already shut down
As a rangers fan, I’m so happy to see him balling out, he was the first prospect I ever learned about, my dad told me about him and I have wanted him to succeed desperately since then.
“I didn’t do it before. But right now I am. I’m this player man. I am.” That is so cold and inspirational it almost makes me shed a tear. What a journey for this man, never loved him because he killssss the Dodgers but I love how he plays. And now I know why, he’s playing to prove himself right.
@@nomercyinc6783 10 years? Sounds like he’s got his pension and is gonna be set for life. Pretty impressive for anybody really. Stop being negative and go outside.
In 2012 or 2013, I went to a game to watch the Frisco Roughriders, the Texas Rangers' AA team. I saw lots of players go through that team to the majors. Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Joey Gallo, Nomar Mazara, and many more. I don't remember any of them anywhere near as vividly as Jurickson Profar, he was on a level above all of them. The athleticism, the reflexes, the strength, he was such a well-rounded and complete player then. The trading of Ian Kinsler to the Tigers for Prince Fielder was, in part, inspired by just how sure the Rangers were that Profar would replace Kinsler at second base. It saddened me that he struggled so much, and struggled to stay healthy. I was really happy when he blossomed into a quality everyday player in 2018, but then immediately saddened by him leaving. Then San Diego. Seeing him find a place with the Padres and blossom into his true potential has been great to watch, and I hope he continues to play well. He's a player I've been rooting for since he was a rookie, and it's great that he's starting to match his elite potential.
Shoutout Profar man. I remember when him and curaçao lost a tight one to a very strong hawaii team in the llws. Knew he had that dawg in him. Him and Jonathon schoop. I’m getting old
im not even joking as a kid when he was. w texas i used to love profar. im genuinely happy hes finally hitting that ceiling that everyone thought he would
As a lifelong Rangers fan, Jurickson was our guy man. Will never forget that debut in Cleveland, so happy to see him become the player we always thought he would be. Great vid, Jolly!
He's easily one of my favorite Padres, even before this season. To watch him this year and been so much fun, the dude rakes and is clutch. We joke on Padres Twitter that he leads the league in VAR - vibes above replacement. Really hope we sign him to an extension.
I’m not shocked at all. Dudes a stud when he plays everyday. He’s been one of my favorite Padres since he got here in 2020. For some reason they’d rather start Pham over him early on. He is who he should be. Also notice the Padres started winning again when he came back from the Rockies.
Hell yeah bro. never seen your channel, but I appreciate all the hard work you put into this video. Profar is on fire!!! And we all love him in SD. I'm surprised you didn't include the Will Smith incident. I hope Profar doesn't regress like you said, most people are saying he was gonna regress a long time ago and he has still be raking. He had a home run today I think. and now Tatis is heating up, so hopefully if Arreaz can keep doing what he is doing and Machado, Xander, Yu and Musgrove can get healthy we will be sweeping teams. LFGSDPadres!!!!!! BTW have you done a feature like this on Arreaz or Merrill? I see you are a NY fan so i'm guessing your focus is NY.
I feel like one of the biggest things about the San Diego Padres as a team is that they always seem to have good vibes in the clubhouse, at least so far this decade. Probably helps the players to have a little bit more fun and helps mitigate some of the stress that comes from being a professional baseball player.
I always love your videos Jolly, but one thing I never see appreciated in the comments is your use of music from Pokemon games in your videos. It's a nice touch when I'm enjoying a video of yours, and then suddenly my ears perk up from the sound of an old friend, a bastion of my childhood. Keep up the awesome work.
As a life long Rangers fan, this video both angers me and fills me with joy. I’m a sucker for a sports redemption story and I wish nothing but the best for Profar. I didn’t even know he was still in the league until the 2022 playoffs.
While it’s great to see him playing well, the .357 BABIP is too concerning for me. Even though we are in June, regression to the mean could still happen
True. However, even if he regressed to something like .290 or even .285 by the end of the season, that would still be a significant improvement. It's also worth noting that his EV, SO%, BB%, Hard Hit%, and Line Drive% rank among the best, if not the best, of his entire career. So perhaps a significant portion of this improvement is organic.
@@nicholastricarico2957 very true. If you took away 10 of his hits he would have a .302 BABIP (which is basically average) leaving him with a .280 BA and .820 OPS which is still very good
his peripherals are up, his performance really isnt heavily carried by his babip. I also wouldnt consider .357 a massive outlier, based on everything else its more like a 150 OPS+ hitter getting slightly lucky than a 100 OPS+ hitter getting a ton of babip luck.
He's been batting well below .300 BABIP before this season so maybe he's finally getting lucky this season. Plus, he's hitting the ball harder than ever before so that might also be a factor.
@@benwaters8486 @Acquirebread you are both right, .357 isn't too too out there though it is still high, but he has been hitting the ball really well. And that is why even if he dips back down to an average BABIP his OPS would stay above .800 (which would result in an OPS+ around 130-140) and a BA around .280. He has been playing well this season and deserves praise for it
This is a great analysis on how Profar finally clicked it together. However, being a Padres fan, I can’t help but think that someway somehow Preller will screw this up next year, and not give this guy what he’s worth. I’m really curious to see what contract he earns. Easily 3-years/ $30 million I think? He needs to prove that this isn’t a one-hit-wonder though. Even if he continues on hovering just below a .300 BA per season, that’s still what we’re expecting from players like Machado and Tatís, and shouldn’t be understated.
I love how God will uplift you. The Dodgers catcher Will Smith tried to humiliate Profar by saying Profar is was irrelevant during a post game interview. Despite the context, Will Smith knew what he was doing when he decided to use the word irrelevant. Will Smith may have a better paying contract and maybe that makes him feel superior. But after that comment, Profar soared like an eagle. The day after Will Smith’s comment, Profar hit a bases clearing double to help the Pads win the series against LA. It makes me happy to see Profar doing so good. He genuinely deserves it. He will make his first All Star game along with Tatis Jr. 🤎⚾️💛
As a Dodger fan who good-naturedly dislikes the Padres, I agree with you. I think Will is an amazing catcher, and maybe was frustrated with that whole situation, but the fact is that everyone is equally “relevant”.
The Padres aren't the ones paying Arraez's contract though. It was part of the trade deal where they basically pay him league minimum and Miami pays the rest. SD is only on the hook for like $590K this year
This man just wants to play the Game, overcoming the adversity and having the kind of talent that gets GM's attention. I've not heard his name before and Profar has my vote. ❤
He actually started playing well as a Rocky. I watched most of their games last year and thought he was one of our best players. No idea why we released him
We in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 will never forget Profar trying to cheer up his Netherlands teammates after hitting a single during the 2017 WBC, only to be caught returning to first base by a Yadier Molina throw to T.J. Rivera. 🤣😂😆⚾
In all honesty I didn’t see him doing this well offensively l, I wanted him back for the dugout and for his flexibility on defense. To give players like boegarts, Jake or manny a break on defense so they can concentrate on BP when in slumps. Turns out 1/3 needed it and to include Kim, but profar has been a staple i LF. Wade and solano are filling that utility gap that I was hoping Pro would provide. Now let’s see how Xander comes back after his recovery and where to stick him on defense/ and in the batting line up. Maybe slide Jake back to first, Luis(great hitter, loses focus on def) to lead off DH and Xander to 2B.
I keep saying that Tatis Sr. NEEDS to be a hitting coach in the MLB. I am baffled that key players like Profar, Tatis Jr and Acuna Jr have come out saying they work with him to fix their swings and put up monster numbers and they refuse to hire this man. I keep hoping my Padres wake up and realize that but they continue to sleep on him and I have no idea why.
I get the narrative or whatever but Tatis is 18th in mlb with 2.4 fwar (Profar is 10th with 2.8) and has the 7th best xwoba in the league. It’s definitely not Profar and nobody else. If anything given their justification for signing Profar to improve chemistry this just makes him and the organization look even better.
As someone with epilepsy and fcked up shoulders because of it (multiple torn ligaments, broke same bone 3 times), reinjuring it in your sleep is super easy especially if you are spooning with a baddie
