- In today's video of Truth OR Myth, we're taking a look at the Beta Canon information on the USS Titan to better understand this starships place in Star Trek's History... This is not a definitive listing of all Beta Canon Info out there in the Star Trek universe, rather, a combination of the facts that make sense, along with my own imagination thrown in to fill in the gaps... I love "Lower Decks" it's like the "Red Dwarf" humor version of Star Trek. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it brings so many great ideas into Trek cannon. Namely the "Titan"

6:40 - one of those shuttles is named "Armstrong" after Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, though it was mistaken to be named after Neil Armstrong.
Designs of Starfleet Corps of Engineers that came after the Dominion War were very impressive and beautiful.

Really Glad it is Cannon. I really like how you can see the elements of the design linage as well like. It looks like they started with the Akira class and went "ok how can we make this ship even more efficient and Effective?". It still retains the lessons they learned from the war like keeping as small a cross section as possible and raised areas to protect the bridge etc. Its such a practical design while being instantly recognisable as a Starfleet ship.
Lower Decks is truly Star Trek now. We’ve got a beloved class of ship and an amazing captain. I didn’t see Tuvok on the bridge when I watched Lower Decks, though...
I wonder if Nemesis had succeeded in the box office, would we have gained a Titan series as a spinoff for The Next Generation.
i liked nemesis, especially when the extras are included; they fill in and answer a lot of questions. A Titan series would've been a perfect way to pick up the story post nemesis. Picard is ok, but i love the idea of a Titan/Riker show.

@@obilesk The only problematic extra of Nemesis was the new XO scene. XO should have gone to Worf and in my head canon he took the position since Data had died.

The Titan books were the first Star Trek novels I ever read. Loved the idea of a class specially designed to support as many diverse species and biologies as possible, really taking advantage of the lack of restrictions novels gives over tv shows. I hope if we ever see more of the Titan onscreen, they play into that

Riker was a titan of a captain. It only seems fitting that his ship be named as such. Plus, having Tuvok (my second favorite Vulcan) serving aboard is the icing on the cake. 🖖😎

Thank you for the Luna class Truth or Myth. Without a doubt, this is my absolute favorite class of starship ever. There are some that take a close second, but this ship is sleek, aggressive, and for the size of the ship, it is a powerful starship.

I had to listen to the ST:TNG theme in Lower Decks S1E10 at least 10 times. Just to make sure that I properly appreciated the scene.
Thank you for the history of the Titan and the summary of the book series. I read a few Next Generation books in my teen years but I haven't read a real book in years. However I did read the early years of New Frontier. It would be nice to see a beta cannon version of the USS Excalibur or the New Frontier series in general, maybe a 'Where are they now' type segment on the characters we saw on screen.
Would love to see more of the USS Titan in upcoming adventures, Maybe even see Worf command the ship.

The Titan is my personal favorite Star Trek ship design.
We need a story on Wesley Crusher. He left to wander with the Traveler, and then we see him in uniform for Riker and Troy's wedding. And now we hear about his Chief Engineer position. Could be a great story if not much cannon is available.

I like the beta cannon story of the 3rd borg incursion that involves the titan,,enterprise e and aventine. Where the borg sczle a full on attack not to assimlate us but to annihilate us. That would make an epic film. Great vidoe,,been waiting on the titan to appear for a while,,😄🖖👍
The ship is beautiful and one of my favourite starship designs from Trek. I do love that Lower Decks has brought this ship into canon and hopefully its signals a chance for others that are just as great as the Titan and her sisters

I'm so glad they went and made this canon. Such an awesome looking design. About the only thing I would change, and it's a super minor nitpick, is instead of the nacelle struts being placed on the sides of the secondary hull, I probably would have raised the angle of them slightly. Not to change the placement of the nacelles but to have the struts themselves look more like they flow into the spine of the ship rather than being stuck on the side. I'll be honest, the Enterprise E and the Sovereign class really spoiled me when it came to a flowing outline on a ship design.

I loved the role Riker and the crew of the Titan played in the novels from Destiny through Typhon Pact. I'm curious to see how the Titannis going to change in Alpha and Beta canon with the upcoming Coda novel trilogy.
Now there is an idea for a beta canon series! The Typhon Pact is a facinating era that shakes up the status quo many times.
Great minds think a like eyebrows :) I did in fact explore that idea, my problem is, I cant find an animator that can bring the ships to life for something as extensive as that :(
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios STO could work as an alternative, though the Tzenkethi are described a little differently in the books.
The real problem is I cant get the interactions required by the various videos to be able to do that using STO... IE If I need a Romulan Ship, A Tzenkethi Ship and the Titan all together in a nice calm shot :(
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios back when I planned to do my own lore videos I intended to comission digital murals depicting a number of scenes in a story and pan then camera across that mural at different points in the script. It might be an alternative to consider.
Well I could definitely do that myself, but I simply dont have the time... And the sheer number of panels id need would mean paying an Extraordinary amount, that simply would not be worth the video... Plus, where would I find someone I could trust to complete what I needed of them... Sadly, it would be such a stressful mess for me... But if I ever do find a good animator with the time to do the project, you WILL see it done :)
That was cleaver adding the lower decks episode into the history. But Wesley crusher became a travler and quit starfleet (but you know this already) anyway this tid bit was very entertaining. I wish cbs had made a series of the titan after nemesis just to fill in some of the 20 years that passed between nemesis and Picard. Would have been nice to see Johnathan Drake's as the lead in a series as captain. Good work. Keep it up.

I would say its more of a medium sized vessel, lol.
The luna class varients in STO were in need of some work, they weren't some of the favourites I would choose, so I was glad that the new t6 one came out, it had brought life into those science ships again.
Though I personally have yet to use mine totally on a character, but I am sure it will be worthy of a Klingon character thanks to when it was released being available to both Federation and Klingon characters.
3:49 that look Janeway is giving, thats a poker face for sure, or dont mess with me look, that I like to use, especially when dealing with managers and they know I mean business, ha ha.
It is good that at last someone was able to convice Riker to accept promotion and command of the Titan, couldn't have been convicnded by a more worth Admiral, and maybe some convincing of Picard as well? as He kept asking why Riker didnt accept a command of his own in Best of Both Worlds...

ya where did that come from? He isn't in any of the titan novels if I recall correctly.
As I said, I utilized Beta Canon for these videos, not ONLY Novels... But Comic Books AND the Videos created by the Production teams for things like the Star Trek: Experience AND Deleted Scenes... Both the later which confirm Crusher was assigned to the Titan and eventually became Chief Engineer!
The USS Titan is a really beautiful looking Starship
In some of the books, most notably Star Trek Picard: The Dark Veil, Christine Vale was the Titan's first officer. However, in Star Trek Lower decks the first officer is not her. Also in The Dark Veil, which is set in 2386, Riker is still a captain, not an admiral. This isn't your fault, it just kind of sums up how difficult the lore of some ships can be when you have different writers and different media types working on the same thing.
I think it's a damn shame it took so long to make the titan canon. I really like that ship

Would you consider the Luna class to be a heavy cruiser if it’s around 450 meters? That’s longer than the Excelsior correct?
Not necessarily, size doesnt always denote cruiser class....

@@mrspidey80 I know it’s a science ship, but there are other science ships in Starfleet that have a cruiser classification. I could’ve sworn there were Miranda class ships in the next generation that were called science ships, and the Miranda class is a light cruiser. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

I am almost afraid of asking this at the fear of being mocked or laughed at, but I've been a Star Trek fan for over 30 years and I never understood what alpha or beta canon meant. What does canon mean? Does it mean "official"?
But in Lower Decks wasnt his First officer a Saurian commander?
As always, Beta canon can contradict things along with itself... However, theres nothing to say that Tuvok simply was on shore leave at the time of the Cerritos mission! We'll have to wait until season 2 to find out for sure!

One thing I wonder, given the way Janeway was written as someone who would "do what needed to be done" to put it bluntly, could she, as an admiral, been more likely to work with section 31 " for the greater good of federation interests " ?
While I feel like it's unfair to tar her with this brush, I also think it would be logically consistent with how she is portrayed in voyager (for better and worse). Just a thought I'd like feedback on, as she's the captain who endured what was potentially the longest kobiashi maru situation possible

Great video but as someone who loves the Titan books I feel the need to correct a few points. 1) Rikers first officer from the launch was Christine Vale. Tuvok served as second officer and chief tactical officer. 2) Wesely was never chief engineer. That honor to Xin-Ra-Havreii who was actually the project lead of the Luna project!

I forgot the source but I think the USS Luna was the only member of her class that served during the Dominion War.
Edit: According to Memory Beta the USS Luna NX-80101 was going under trials in 2372 so she probably did serve but possibly not on the front line.
Again, Beta Canon says otherwise!

Not really, as there are many other sources of Beta Canon, such as (most) Comics, that it does not take in to account... As far as Beta canon goes, there is NO accurate source!
The Luna-class naming convention may revolve around the 20-named Sol-System moons. However at present there are over 172 known moons as of the year 2020. Over-all when you look at the Saucer and Secondary blended hull with it's down turned nacelles. What you truly have is a late 24th century updated redesign of the 23rd century Ares-class Battle Cruiser/Destroyer. The only difference, the addition of the Miranda-class Roll-bar and mission module atop it. the size/cost/crew complement would allow for 3 Luna's for every one Sovereign-class.
First, the Ares Class doesnt exist... It is fannon, not even Beta Canon, so theres no redesign. Second, in real life, the Luna Class was designed WAY before the Fan Film designed the Ares Class, so either way your entire statement is incorrect!
