    PLEASE READ IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING GETTING A TURTLE: Just wanted to say I no longer recommend using aquarium sand in turtle setups. The turtle can consume it and it can cause some serious problems. If you want to use sand, use very fine grain sand or play sand. But it's best to use rocks or pebbles that are large enough to where the turtle can't consume them.

(Poor little guy) so I "borrowed them forever" without the person knowing and I'm currently trying to setup a really nice tank for the little bud ! Know absolutely nothing about turtles so some tips and pointers will be appreciated. Going to take very good care of this little guy! I would recommend a tuff stuff 110 gallon for 75$. If baby you can use a concrete mixing tub which is spacious and then move up to any other container. When about 4 inches you can put them in the rubber tub and fill it have way. I know people want their tanks in the living rooms for decoration but their is no way to not spend on that. You can always make an indoor pond with the tub search online it’s dope asf.

    Thank you so much.. I just moved down here to Texas and we have a pool, I found this 1" red eared slider in my skimmer.. I'm so excited. I used to have a red eared slider when I was young.. I just love this guy/girl, I'm going to do exactly what you just set up..

  • @ed1t3d
    @ed1t3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do recommend the turtle dock, its small but my red eared slider can fit on it, the platform feels cheap but its completely fine with the turtle and the water and I've been using the same platform for about 6 months, warning is that the suction cups might wear off, one of mine did and it doesn't stick to the glass, but the suction cups only cost about 1-2 dollars, I also recommend canister filters since you can keep those on for VERY LONG PERIODS OF TIME, up to 3-4 months, full tank cleaning where you empty out the water and all the gravel should be at least after 3 years.

    • @erskain
      @erskain 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i heard that the dock should be above the water so algea doesn't grow is this true??

    • @ed1t3d
      @ed1t3d 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes its true, but that's really when you rarely do a full body tank kit, look, I really don't recommend turtles, especially if you don't have the necessary equipment, a tank like his in the video is required and should really only house at most 2 turtles, you have to be committed with full body clean outs, feeding them everyday, and changing out their water usually at least once a week, its very committed and I don't recommend it. @@erskain

      Turtles are affordable unless you get into morphs. You can get a normal one from a pet shelter at no cost in many places also. My turtles are rare and cost a lot even as babies but the laws in my state are very strict so I get morphs is the only reason. I like normals a lot though.

    You can mix some 3% hydrogen peroxide in the water. Will keep the water from stinking between cleanings. .

      hello! I have a musk turtle, mud turtle, and yellow bellied slider. My musk turtle is full grown and refuses to bask, as well as my mud turtle, just based on their natural behaviors. You can easily provide rocks stacked up and they do great in a 3/4 full 40-55 gal tank because they dont swim as much and are bottom dwellers unlike sliders. Those floating basking things are pretty small and I've never seen anything that was bigger than the one I use for my 4.5 in juvenile slider and shes going to be needing an upgrade soon anyways. Hope this helps!

    I ordered a turtle from the company that was recommended in Florida.
    Pretty certain they are not practicing good animal husbandry as my hatchling was DOA.

    I have two 10 inch turtles, and really need help. I can’t find a basking area for large red eared sliders, and can’t even find large enough tanks for two 10 inchers. Anyone have tips or links for tanks or basking areas? The floating ones like in the video are too small!
