I have a red eared slider named Myrtle.
Man he comes up to me anytime I go near the tank and puts his two front paws and swings them in and back out and is so excited to see me. His personality is great.
Thank you for sharing man!
😂 "sometimes I just walk into it." thanks for the video! I've had my RES for about a decade now and she's still living long but I've only recently tried advice you give in your videos and it's made things way easier. God bless you and your turtles 🐢
It’s impossible to find a decent available basking loft for adult turtles
Occasionally he does sell some that he makes himself. I bought one a couple years ago, no issues and I would highly recommended getting one from him if he sells more
PREACH I have my red eared slider in a 100 gallon water trough that I screwed a bored in for a basking area but she keeps getting out so I need to change up something 😂
factsss
Yeah I made my own
build your own. Not hard & probably costs less.
We bought one of his basking areas and it's been amazing. No need to waste time to build one yourself..! :)
Awesome, thanks for your comment! Much Appreciated :)
When I first got my slider turtle in 2004 I had a 15 gallon tank and a standard Top Fin type filter. The water got dirty fast and I had to change the change frequently. It was definitely a learning experience.
Indeed! I went through similar struggles. Really just learned to super over filter for turtles.
Prob one of the best explanatory vids for new turtle beginners. Good job. Just got a 150g I need to setup for my almost a year old Diamondback terrapins. Trying to get an Aquadecor background before I start filling it. Also wanna see how I can add a basking area for them. Again, good vid
Great video Sir. Got a lot of good info from it!
Love your videos, watching them while we wait for a 5ft custom turtle tank to be made!
So cool! and thanks!
I bought one of your turtle toppers a few years ago and it's still going strong. I only just had to replace the turf because my turtle was eating it but it worked great.
That’s awesome! Thanks so much for the update. Glad it’s been serving your turtle well.
@@LongLiveYourTurtle I bought the tank loft you reviewed from petsmart but my adult red eared slider refused to go up there or stay up there when I put her on it. I tried for almost 3 weeks. I even added turf to help with grip and prevent her nails from getting caught. So, my existing problem is finding a basking area that she can get on that is big enough so the water can be high enough. Suggestions???
Thanks! This is very useful to me! I am getting a little turtle named pickle!
Happy Harold! Very entertaining video!!
Thanks! :)
Beautiful thank you
Love your work so much! I was wondering when your platforms will be available again. It was too late for me to purchase one and I would love one for my sweet turtle girl :(
I DID listen on 2x speed ....😅But, thanks for making such a straightforward video!
Very good
did u always have 3 turtles? how big of a tank is the one to theleft?
hello please answer my question. can i put a Fluval AquaClear 110/500 Aquarium Power Filter in a 40g turtle tank. the filter is 500 gph
When will the basking areas be available on your Etsy again?!
Hi there. Do you have a nesting box for your female red eared sliders?
Turtles are so cute. Someone name a turtle "Sally"!
Love your setup! My question is why do you have two different types of filters? Can the Fluval FX6 alone do the job? Or if it can't, is there a model that can do it? I'd love to do your exact setup but the issue for me is space.
Hey, great question. For one turtle the FX6 will be adequate. I like to over filter my tanks to keep them clean longer.
For $150 I’d buy this in a heart beat! However, $350 is more than my new tank alone 😢
Ugh. Have a red eared slider I found in the road about a month ago. It’s an invasive species here. She had been hit but is ok. Just a little scraped up from being run over. Took her to the wildlife rescue and they checked her out. Told me I can’t release her. So I had an unused 75 gallon tank I setup for her. Used to be a fish guy but hadn’t in a while. Anyway just spent $50 on aquarium gravel this weekend. Now I found this. Didn’t see that anywhere else.
Will the basking platform fit a 125 tank?
please tell me the website where I can buy such a hiding place for the turtle, I mean the trunk in the aquarium?
Can you show what kind of setup of media on 3 trays fx6 and other white cannister
Great Idea! I suggest watching my Review videos for both of those filters, I go through just that :)
We are having a really hard time getting our outflow to stay stuck to the glass and our tank doesn’t seem to have a “flow”. Do you have any videos on setting up the filters/placement?
Try this video for a fluval FX6: th-cam.com/video/12SrYDtQ8VA/w-d-xo.html
I’m sure you’ve been asked before but can find a video. Have you had any issues with turtle aggression with 2/3 turtles in same tank? Or how do you manage? I know you have had them for several years
Yes, my two RES turtles do not get along so I have two tanks. You could partition off one tank as well. But my Yellow belly gets along fine with both of them so she goes in my larger tank with one other RES. Thanks for the comment!
My husband just built a basking box but I've also read the water shouldn't be double the turtles height to ensure they can breath. Is that true ours is far deeper than that.
Many different approaches to turtle care. That is a good rule of thumb to avoid issues. My turtles are very strong swimmers and can hold onto the ramp (don’t have to climb up to the basking area) if they want to rest and breathe but not bask.
hi llyt have you ever had detritus worms in any of your tanks?
Nope thank goodness!
I'm from the UK and products here are very limited. Is there a way I might be able to have a conversation for more details on the best set up. I have a YBS and want to have his tank more natural
I'd like to add I have had him for several years, age not exactly known as I obtained him from an office where they couldn't look after him and thought he was a she. I love the idea of a sand base it looks so much better than just a bare glass altho concerned when it comes to cleaning. I've have recently noticed he has started gnawing at the floating Dock similar to one in another of you videos. I love the idea of a top level dock(one that sits on top of the tank) which will eliminate this and allow him more space to swim as I can then fill the tank with more water
Do you think that a Fluval 407 canister filter on its own would be enough for my 75 gallon red eared slider tank?
That filter might work it is on the low end as far as GPH and bio media volume for that size tank with a turtle
Doing this for my Yellow Belly male as soon as i can afford it. It will be a 120gal aquarium doh.
We just adopted a small red eared slider and working on the best tank setup. hes young, and we find he can't climb on the above tank basking platform. he is uncomfortable in deeper water that he can't stand up and get his head out. We have adjusted his environment and hoping with age he will do the above tank basking.
Why 2 different filtration systems?
I like trying canister filters out. Fluval FX6 is the typical work horse, but is expensive, so I wanted to try a budget filter. The FX6 is really enough though.
Hey, so I am worried. I just set up my 75 gallon. My slider has been in shallow water a long time. She almost seems panicked or scared in that much water. Any tips? I dont want her to drown :(
How did she adjust. Got mine from someone who kept in shallow water. Wondering how she will adjust to full water now.
So it took maybe 5 days and she was good. Its like she forgot how to float without straining, but then randomly she knew, she also seems a lot happier :)@@tanner2k971
I have 2 turtles that adjusted quite fine with a tank full of water. Someone surrendered the two to me and they’ve always been in shallow water. What worked for me was putting them on the top basking area first, then letting them climb down into the water, and they adjust.
Where is your store so I can look at your basking platform?
longliveyourturtle.etsy.com/listing/1506627608
So do you need both of those filters or could I start with 1?
You can start with one just know you will need to maintain the water/filter more often.
What about a 50gallon breeder tank? It’s more wide then a 75gallon tall
Maybe, but it has very short walls so no much depth. Could be good for smaller turtle breeds!
How do you deal with the humidity problem?
Outside in the summer, dehumidifier otherwise and the winter isn't usually an issue. Try to cover the open side of the tank!
4:42 can I use spring water for my turtle
For me, if the water is safe for me to drink, it is Ok for my turtle. If there is chlorine in the water that can be neutralized with Reptisafe. If its not being filtered at all, get it tested to see if its ok for you and your turtle. Hope that helps!
Why are you putting a heater in a red ear slider aren’t they cold water?
Unless you have kept your turtles in ponds and through cold weather and you are experienced in doing so, it is recommended that you keep the water a consistent temperature. For sliders this is mid 70s to low 80s. So if your room get below that for extended periods a heater is required. Hope that helps!
@@LongLiveYourTurtle thank you!
i lived in area lived plant is cheap and easy accessible, i replaced my plant in 1 or 3 mths time as they eat them all the time. 😂
Classic turtles… they just can’t help it sometimes!!
I want to get a turtle, but I have concerns for the UV lamp, since the only place where I can put my turtle tank is my bedroom, and I don't want to get skin damage
Where do you buy that tank?
I got this at my local Petco. It is a standard size that most stores will carry or order for you.
@LongLiveYourTurtle what turtle would be good for a beginner? My son is a big fan and wants to get a turtle, i just dont know whitch to get him :)
i've seen some bad reviews of this aquean tank. the threat of them leaking is too high for me to buy
No issues for me and I have had it for about 4 years! Knock on wood...
I have one red ear slider name amy. Of 25 years old
Amazing! :)
People really should consider Southern Painted turtles instead of Red Eared Sliders. They don't grow nearly as large, which allows people to provide them a better environment. A 75 gallon tank to a Southern Slider is like a 150 gallon tank to a Red Ear...
Do they require the same environment for a tank. Not tropical?
@TiblumRizzler same requirements. They're nearly the same, just smaller. We've had ours for about 10 years, in a 75 gallon tank, and they're a little bigger than palm size. 75 gallons is much too small for a red ear in my opinion.
Ok where can I purchase one?
Southern, eastern, Western is the best? And cheapest and smallest with most value?
@TiblumRizzler lots of online aquarium shps sell them. That's how we got ours. Just search southern painted aquarium and you'll get plenty of options. Ours were about the size of a half dollar coin when they arrived. Now they're 4 or 5 inches long, 9 years old.
I don't know why I find your hand gestures very irirtating lol...
😂 A female named Harold. That's like a boy named Sue 😅
