Great video, I'm really enjoying this channel, not only do you provide great insight on turtle husbandry but also you a great content creator so your videos are really easy to enjoy as well as being educational!
Dude I just bought your product without knowing it’s coming from you! I’m so stoked I just got a 75 gallon for my red slider so just waiting for it come in!
Great Video! I just rescued a Yellow Belly Slider. Your video was spot on, for helping me with setting up a very cool enclosure for my new turtle (Yellow-Bell). Thank You!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Well, I don’t have turtles. I ran across this video by chance. But I have to congratulate you on the great video and a wonderful description on how to do all of this. My daughter did have turtles and I think your product for basking is really so creative and unique. Thanks I had more fun watching.🐢
Great video. I will be a new turtle owner come next week.... what about uva bulbs/lights? I'm seeing they need that too. So confusing to me lol. Thank you, Melissa
Hi Great video. We have a male (5") and a female (7") Mississippi Map Turtle. Would you recommend this setup with an above tank basking area in a 125 gallon tank for this breed of turtles? They currently are out growing their 70 gallon tank and we are getting ready to move them to a bigger tank. Our turtles don't seem to be very good at climbing and we are worried about them being able to get up on the above tank basking area. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Hi! What do you recommend to prevent hard water limescale on the side of tanks? And on a somewhat related note, where do you source the water for your turtles? Is it distilled, tap, hose? Thank you for your helpful videos, they make upgrading and improving things for my turtle seem a lot less daunting.
Hello, I use well water that filtered through a whole house filter and water softener process. Using vinegar to remove limescale helps remove existing deposit on your tank glass. Google has a lot of info on how to do that safely.
Those don’t contribute to water clarity. Those are strictly for surface area for biological bacteria to grow. Water frailty come from proper mechanical filtration aka sponges course to catch the big stuff and fine for the small stuff
A few quesrions. 1. I thought you werent supposed to use screen covers because they block the uvb? 2. I can only find the hth specialty pool filter sand and canf find any info on if it has additives. Would this sand be okay?
I have a "local fish" 75 gallon with small bass and blue gill. Will your tank topper work on this kind of system? I wanted to add a small turtle with getting a new tank
Little fish, no! My two Map Turtles will eat 20 guppies in a week. They are half the size of his Slider. Larger more aggressive fish (like Oscars or Cichlids) will hold thier own, at least against my Map Turtles.
Do you have an age where you recommend filling the tank lol the way up? I have a red eared slider that's still small. About 2-3 inches big. Would it be to small to do this to the tank? I have a 30 gallon tall.
Just needs to be soaked. If it was a dry log I’d suggest weighing it down and soaking it in a separate container, the tank if you can hold it down without your turtle messing with it.
I agree when it is only filled half way. This was an example setup not suited for my larger turtle, filling the tank up completely makes it an adequate tank for my 7 inch turtle though.

I appreciate that!
I’m in the process of upgrading my turtles tank. I was using your vid from two months ago but this one is great!!!!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.

Awesome, thanks for the comment :)
That’s a nice above ground basking platform, would be nice if you had one for 55 gallon tanks.

Thank you,

Great video!! Love the content! I wish someone took as good care of me as you do these turtles 😢
Thanks! Don’t worry you’ll find the right person. Hopefully they get you an above tank basking platform I show at the end of the video ;)
I have a question, can you do a tank setup for softshell turtles?
Hmmm, I don't have one so don't temp me ;)

My turtle is that same size and I can tell you those flouting basking platforms DO NOT WORK
Do you know anything that dose I have the same problem
My floating platform works great
My slider likes his.
My slider likes his and it’s a smaller platform than this

I noticed you put filter media in every tray inside your canister filter. Does that make that water more clear ?

Awesome vid man👍🏼
Sick shirt dude
this video was SUPER informative thank you! answered all my questions
Glad it was helpful!
Great content my bro
My turtle is too have for those floating basking pads. We had to upgrade to a topper.
Typically the case for adult turtles, a “topper” is a much better setup anyway, thanks for the comment!
I was told the mini uvb bulbs are insufficient, is this correct?
Great info video, nice, ty!
How often do you have to change the water out?
I have a question, do you believe this set up would be good for a river cooter that is about 10 months old? Thank you in advance.
Yes, absolutely! Just make sure your turtle is swimming well enough to navigate the tank.
I need that baskin area for my babies
Ok I need to buy that extra tank
Bro show us how to make those badass baskets you got
I have a question, for the FX6 when it airares every 12 hours is it bad for the turtles? Mine will sometimes jump off it’s basking area…
No nothing wrong with the Fluval purging air, keeps the filter operating efficiently. Your turtle getting spooked is ok, not a real threat!
Does the floating log work if you over an DIY over the top basking platform?
I use mine still, there is an inch or two so they can still hold on and pop their head out a little as the chill near the surface.
Beginner here: can you have little fishes in the tank too?
I think the turtles would eat them as feeder fish, so i don’t advise it. 👍🏻

You should put the links to the products! I believe you get paid when we purchase from your links.
Are you selling the basking platform?
Yes! Here is the link: longliveyourturtle.etsy.com/listing/1506627608/turtle-basker-5000-above-tank-basking
I just bought it. What 75 gallon tank do you recommend? Love the videos. FX 6 sitting in my garage.

I have a log i bought from Petco and i can't get it to stay at the bottom of the tank any advice
Just needs to be soaked. If it was a dry log I’d suggest weighing it down and soaking it in a separate container, the tank if you can hold it down without your turtle messing with it.
I felt like he looked like he had to pee while filming the plug for his product
Probably did 😂
i just got beach sand and a troth some sticks and a hot dogg for food
i did the same thing to my turtle but in water jug and it drowned it self
The sand is the dumbest thing you could put in there. Good luck keeping it clean...
that is a way to big turtle for that tank
I agree when it is only filled half way. This was an example setup not suited for my larger turtle, filling the tank up completely makes it an adequate tank for my 7 inch turtle though.
Double domes are pointless. This video is pretty iffy on the information being provided
What's better than the double dome? I use one and my painted friend seems to love it.
Yeah I'm interested in this comment as well. Pointless to have both types of bulbs?
Hater
Your information is so wrong . Putting glass at the top will make your uva uvb light pointless . Your turtle won’t get what it needs !
That's why he put the uvb bulb on the mesh screen and not on the glass, he even states it in the video
He says “we can’t use glass” you’re a pinecone.
