I’ve been suffering with one for over a year now. The anxiety and the chest pain are the worst part. I feel so bad for people with this and the doctors say it’s not a big deal. I’ve found a few things that have helped: I had to stop drinking coffee (caffeine), no alcohol at all (alcohol makes that dizzy and faint feeling worse), no tomato’s or very little pasta sauce of pasta, and cut gluten out completely. It’s a huge diet change but cutting these down had really helped. The chest pain is down but I occasionally get the feeling of not have a satisfying breath like you can’t diaphragm breath. I’ve heard the same about chiropractors being able to help but I’m scared to try it. Good luck in everyone’s journey of trying to fix/treat this

Yeah I have all those symptoms too the can’t catch my breath feels like I’m choking at times and I believe it throws the body into anxiety cause it’s on a flight response to not get air and it’s that and the natural anxiety it gives from pushing on our vagus nerve I also hate how the uneducated drs say it doesn’t give any symptoms like WTH😣😭 but just know your not alone I feel your pain

AMIE LYNN......QUICK FIX. Take magnesium gluconate supplement daily with food. Then whilst laying down relax your tummy muscles and put your fingers deep under your left ribs, you should feel your stomach sack. it feels like a squishy ballon but you might not at first. (not the middle of the chest plate) and breathing out fully; using your fingertips pull your stomach down slowly and release the pressure slowly repeat 5 to 7 times when you have an attack or at least 2 times per week. Then do the right side but not as deep as that's your liver. Then stand up and drink a pint of water straight away, then after 20 mins eat a good meal. you should feel improvement within a day or 2. Don't forget to breathe in between each downward stroke of the fingers and fully empty lungs when pushing under rips then stroke down deep.
Don't lie down after food or water for at least 40 mins after. Don't go running or jogging until fully healed. Also, try relaxation breathing techniques every day for 10 mins in the morning and 10 mins at night before bed. Keep stress levels low as possible for a full recovery.
I had it bad for 2 years and I have done comprehensive research and I fixed my hiatus hernia within 2 weeks. Don't take any meds or have surgery unless you have blood in your stool and full strangulation of the stomach. Even then I would still try this first. If you are unsure about your technique go to a chiropractor, but their not all trained or insured to do this manoeuvre. But it's easy to do yourself. You will know if it's working because you will start having gurgling in your tummy and then a few minutes later you may fart and or burp. Good luck.... Nuff love and sympathy from Cockney Dan of the U.K.

I was told to “take Milk of Magnesia” when I have the attacks. I am in good shape and eat healthy but it has become hard to eat anything these days without having another attack. Lord help us!

I can't remember the exact size but I know it was a paraesophageal hiatal hernia. That is were it goes up through your diaphragm and basically got lodged in there so I had to have surgery to have it removed because it would not come down on its own.

Was diagnosed with hiatal hernia in 2019. Took acid reflux pills from that time till march 2023. Ive pretty much stop the pills, and trying to stick to a strict diet. My advice to anyone who has just found out they have a hiatal hernia, change your diet immediately. Dont eat anything after 4pm. Eat smaller meals slowly, never rush when eating. Worst foods to have are: caffeine, alcohol, fried foods, chocolate (a tiny bit doesnt hurt, but if its too much to resist, better to stop all together) spicy foods, including onions, garlic, tomotoes. Foods ive found that help, coconut water and coconut milk, and coconut flesh, apples, pumpkin by itself, stay away from breads and processed meats, choose top quality meat.
Most of all, pray. I find it helps to relieve the anxiety. And sips of water, not too much, wait till you release air before taking more water. Oh and drasrically cut down sugar intake if possible.
If you so not look after yourself now, it will get worse, you wont have enough sleep, or quality of sleep, it gets tough. Strenuous Physical activity stresses it out.
    All the best.

I've been dealing with one since I was 10, I'm 26. I can now look back and see all the different symptoms and connect the dots. I actually fixed it by like 99 percent. But then a chiropractor pushed on me the wrong way and I think they popped my stomach back up. I still believe a chiropractor is the answer as opposed to surgery. However I've been suffering for about a year now really bad. I swear I feel like I'm having a heart attack every day...😅

I feel these attacks all the time for years randomly and never been to the ER because it goes away. I wish I went to the ER before because now nobody believes how much pain I'm in. I have endometriosis too which sucks. I've been tested for EVERYTHING, including a heart monitor and got an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy bc they thought I had IBD. Nope. Just a hiatal hernia that they say it's small but it's literally ruining my life and makes me feel like I'm having a heart attack more than 2 times a week

Struggling with anxiety and panic attacks since then and no one could tell me yet that this could be linked to this hiatic hernia. No doctor could help me with the anxiety yet. Now this clip opens my eyes. This is crazy, could this be eventually the answer am looking for for 4 years?

because it is so common many doctors do us a disservice by not telling us the true symptoms of it. I had it for 3 years before my doctor even informed that I had it!..beacuse I didn't "complain about it." (I would just get seen for heart burn/gerd) sometimes the medical industry is sick! But im glad you found this video! Hopefully ill be getting surgery for mine soon. the more you pester your doctor about it the more they'll do for you!! BLOW THEIR PHONE UP!!!

I’ve just been diagnosed w a hiatal hernia ab a month ago and prior had been dealing w horrible sickness until I figured out what was going on. I finally got on omeprazole which has seemed to help but I spoke to a surgeon the other day about getting surgery for it but they recommended not to get it considering I’m 18 and it doesn’t “look” that bad supposedly but at the same time I deal with some weird anxiety in certain situations and makes it hard to not feel worried about my situation and I haven’t even been able to attempt to get a new job or even hangout with new people. I don’t know what to do about it and if it’s related to my hiatal hernia because he assured me it was just anxiety and the hiatal hernia is a mechanical issue but apparently there are people who can live normally with it and that’s what I want to know how to do. I hope you will try some other things before you have surgery. You’re so young and sometimes you can develop the hiatal hernia again after going through surgery if you don’t correct the underlying problem that initially caused the hernia, like diet or physical strain. Don’t be in a hurry for surgery.

A hiatal hernia messes with your vagus nerve. Which runs from the brain all the way through the digestive tract. So, yeah, that can cause anxiety. Have you tried the hiatal hernia exercises on AskDrJo's channel? They've helped me to a certain extent.
