Earlier this year in February was the worst time of my life but it turned out to be the most eye opening one. I remember feeling a tightness in my chest and I panicked wondering what was going on with me. I took about four trips to the emergency room from panic attacks, only to lead to the gastro doctor to learn I had a small sliding hernia or hiatal hernia. It effects my esophagus and it can get so annoying sometimes breathing along with it. I had to get an endoscopy and I was so scared and I cried. I didn’t want to get it, but it ended up being one of the bravest moments in my life and I felt so relieved to know I didn’t have anything threatening. I no longer have health anxiety. I just wanted to say thank you for this and I’m going to check out these exercises. I recently had a flare up and I know it’ll go away soon. For everyone that goes through the same thing, you are strong and not alone! I wish you love ❤
@@observer-j1g you are so right and that’s what caused me so much anxiety because it isn’t just casual stomach pain, it’s pressure on my diaphragm and esophagus which is so much worse especially when breathing. it definitely caused down moments in my life because you feel trapped. i pray for a good surgery for you. if i can’t handle my hernia anymore, i’m gonna ask for surgery too. i don’t want this pain anymore.
@@snowyhogsmeade I'm aware and I'm sure he is too. It's common knowledge with this topic. BUT it's still comforting and nice for him to get it if that makes him feel better. Everyone is different, and surgery could definitely help him for a while until his hernia heals more.
I was told that I had a hiatal hernia ten years ago and had acid reflux for the ten years. I just had another endoscopy and the hernia was gone. The only difference from ten years ago was that I had bought a rowing machine and was working out 3-4 times a week for 20 minutes. I’m so happy about it.
Are you still symptomatic? Because small hiatal hernias are often missed on endoscopy, especially if it’s smaller than 2cm. Glad your doing well though! Keep rowing! Improved posture is important, hyper kyphosis exacerbates Hh
@@morningwithgracie7870me neither. I have to wonder about these comments. I have had problems with hiatal hernia since age 13 or 14. I cannot lay any way except my left side ....laying on my back makes my problem 100 times worse!!
You are a LIFESAVER. So glad I found this!! I figured out on my own a few years ago that I have a hiatial hernia that will act up at times... To put things mildly it can be VERY difficult to live with if not dealt with properly. I have found certain exercises on my own that help, but these are on a whole nother level! For over a month now of I've been feeling bad (terrible at times), have had to leave work early one day b/c I felt like I was about to pass out, and have been overall quite fatigued. After the first 3 exercises, I kid you not, I am feeling more rejuvenated and lively than I have been in over a month... Amazing!
Pointing out poor posture as one of the causes for hiatal hernia was eye-opening for me. Have both. Will be doing the exercises from your video! 🙂 Thank you! 😊
I have had an Hiatal Hernia for over a decade and acid reflux is a big issue but in all these years I never had a Dr. Ever tell me to do these. I am so happy to have found this. Thank you so very much. I will do these.
Drs are no help with HH, I follow Dr Jamie Koufman and read her book the Acid Reflux diet it’s fantastic I also use the iqoro device which helps a lot and these exercises!
I have a hernia, nerve damage, and not much cartilage left in my shoulders therefor I am constantly unaligned. The wall angels exercise helped me align my body within minutes. Thank you
Wow! Thank you! I believe I have been suffering with a hiatal hernia ever since my last baby was born 32 years ago. Unfortunately I have been misdiagnosed over and over and lived on PPIs off and on for 3 decades. My last endoscope finally found the hernia. Unfortunately my GI gave me double protonix daily as I was already on one a day. But this only aggravated and made it worse. I got off the protonix and actually got better! Then months later, one week ago, I had a bad hernia 'flair up'. But, now knowing it is a hiatal hernia, I chose to seek better education, knowledge and underatandingnof hiatal hernia and how to properly treat it without medication or surgery or spending loads of money on Drs who never explained a single thing to me about hiatal hernia, how to treat it without medication(only covers some symptoms), and how to avoid a flare-up! Now, I know! Thank you!!
I take it on my own , to visit every 6 months , to have EGD Test , to keep in check with my Esophagus , and GERD . This second time visiting , I found out 4 / 5/2023 , I have small hiatal hernia. But I was NOT told, where or what to do to fix it . For now on I'm going every 5 months to have an EGD test . No doctor says, how to CURE Esophagus or GERD, that's horrible . I want to have a Normal life.
@@debbiec6216 I spent the better part of the year reading about acid reflux and causes came to the conclusion that I have para-oesophageal hernia. I been to the GI for the last 3 years and says she has no idea and 2 endoscopy done and found nothing! She sends me on my way and never consults with me even though I told her I have the hernia. She says there’s no cure or treatment for it yet people have a successful surgery that cures it. So either this doctor is in it for the paycheck or just straight up incompetent

I do everything I am supposed to to be doing for the past year. and still not better- lost 50 lbs and still have symptoms. Would be interested in learning more about your device!!!!!
I just started with the lying down, stomach breathing so far, I think I will introduce some more of these gradually, definitely noticing some benefits. I did also read that just hanging from a bar can help to put the stomach back in place as well, and I find lying with my arms spread wide also helps.

Thank you so much doctor ! I am Shiva from India, I had a hiatus hernia from past twelve years and severe headache also . Then I saw this video , it's really helpful. Thank you so much doctor once again. I am really happy now and 90% of problem cleared. God bless you doctor 🙏.
Hello Dr. Kulla, I am 28 year old , diagnosed with large hiatus hernia. My doctor advised me to lose weight. What excercises should I avoid, as I saw in some forums that hiatal hernia patients should avoid sit ups, squats , crunches. Please upload a video on what excercises to avoid with hiatal hernia. Your input and insight will be very helpful to many. Please do it.
I have a large one as well. Occasionally, I am absolutely miserable. I have lost 35m pounds though, and it has definitely helped. I just walk 30 mins a day 5 days a week. I was told not to lift weights or do the exercises you listed. Wish you well.
I had a choking incident on a supplement Dec 17th which resulted in a hiatal hernia and now symptoms of GERD, no burning like reflux, just that constant feeling of something in the throat causing anxiety any time I need to eat. Saw my chiro for the manual movement of diaphragm and that took away all chest pain, but still feeling of something in the base of the throat 24 hours a day. Any working out tends to set me right back to square one. Really wreaking havoc on quality of life and causing depression. Medical doc says PPI's for life (but I had an accident, not overweight or bad diet causing GERD) and no acid burning at all. I will try these and keep following for hiatal hernia tool, this is no way to experience life.
Go with your gut and these don’t always clear up in a few visits. My guess is there may have been a weakness already in the hiatus. Keep at it with chiro at least 2-3 a week then slowly cut down as you improve.

Had this issue for about 5 years. Tried other exercises that did not help.. I've been doing this once a day for a few months and there has been definite improvement. Thank you for sharing this.
Doctor Kull, the position laying back on the floor facing up brought acid back to my esophagus, producing pain. I don't understand, if you have hiatla hernia and that acid comes up, it makes sense that acid would come back up, then why do this exercise if is going to cause the same problem?
I've been working out with hiatal hernia for almost 8 months because I'm done listening with these doctors to not recommend push ups with hiatal hernia but in my case it seems that I don't have any problem with it. It actually helps my hiatal hernia to heal
Is depends on the growth of hh. I think that a limited number of push-ups just don t get worse the situation. For sure,a)walking b)running(not sprints) and swimming heal all possible consequences of hh. The key is to eat normally and not very late. And to limit fast food(as long as it s possible).

Should you do these exercises even though your hiatal hernia has not been adjusted and moved? Will these cause more pain if your stomach is in the hiatus? Can these exercises be helpful even though your stomach is up high in hiatus?
No first adjust the hernia then exercise . All these exercises are meant to strengthen the diaphragm so that the stomach doesn't comes up again from the hiatas.
@@saffsunday9030 the exercises are meant to push the hernia down , It would be safe to first push the hernia down with your own fingers /self help tool /by jumping in the morning with plenty of water in your stomach, then do the exercises, a strong diaphragm will not let the hernia come up if the hiatas is not too big. Fabulous instructional video!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you!! I had hip replacement 2019 and had to take my exercising down numerous notches. Was being trained at an athletic performance training place and was loving it...after surgery had to take everything down (still have groin pain and resulting weakness). But eventually joined a regular gym and trying to maintain. Found the rowing machine. I loved it. It's the only cardio i like other than pushing/pulling a sled. However, i wound up with costcochondritis and had to take steroids... yuck!! Have not been back on the rower since. My other cardio before covid and hip problems was ballroom and other partner dancing. Was feeling ready to go back to dancing when this awful acid reflux struck me. I first notice it when laying chest down on pad on a stand and doing leg raises. (reverse hyper i think). Symptoms continue to worsen including getting out of breath doing my regular band walks. Also, and i cant even fold forward to do yoga or pilates due to massive reflux pain. My diet since 2005 has been all organic and if animal, grass fed, no wheat, no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no processed food. Only organic dark chocolate... which i quit immediately. Doctor wanted me to take awful medicine. I refused and he actually shoved a prescription at me implying it was something other than the common one they prescribe. Total lack of respect for me as an individual. Anyway, thanks for you being here. I will follow your instructions because they make total sense. Just wondering why this happened at this time. Me doing wrong exercises? lifting too much weight? Wrong technique or just old age . . . i am 69

I was diagnosed with a 2cm hiatal hernia a few weeks ago after an endoscopy. Symptoms started suddenly about 2 months ago after I worked out. Got the adjustment for the first this afternoon by a chiropractor and I instantly felt relief. However, I experienced mild heartburn and the feeling that something was stuck in my throat just a few hours after the adjustment. Is it normal for the hernia to go back up so quickly? Does this mean that future adjustments will lead to the same result and I will have to get surgery for it to stay or will the symptoms eventually subside for longer periods of time with multiple adjustments?
If you bent down , have poor posture , strain on toilet , lift something heavy and don’t breath properly or can re herniate. You need to strengthen the diaphragm

I rarely have gerd or reflux however, I always feel like I have something stuck in my throat and have chest pain at the breast plate from time to time. Can these exercises reverse a hiatal hernia? If surgical repair is needed, what is recommended? is there someone in the Houston area you would recommend?
Great exercises. I had a cat scan taken because it sometimes feels like something is literally rolling out from my lower abdomen into my chest under my rib cage. It feels like it’s literally moving. This happens when I do a crunch or when I exert my stomach or even sometimes when I twist it. If I don’t put my fist under my ribs and push as hard as I can down I will scream it is so painful. It takes a few minutes for it to release. I feel everything going back to normal and settling back down. Then I’m sore for a week or two. Because of this I can no longer do yoga or many other things that I used to do. But yet the CAT scan showed nothing was wrong. I really think I have a hiatal hernia but it didn’t show up on a scan. So hopefully the exercises help.
@@didloful I’m so sorry you are not being taken seriously. I read somewhere that this type of hernia is very common and most people just live with it, but some require surgery. I suggest you go to a hernia specialist if there is such a person. Traditional scans don’t catch it unless it is incarcerated or strangulated, which means you are in trouble with organs in places they should not be and in great pain. Know that I believe you. There are groups that talk about this issue if you search the Internet. Try gently doing the exercises. It may straighten you abdomen and make it possible fir you to manage without surgery. We must take care of ourselves when the medical system lets us down. Do not despair. I’ll pray you find relief. And if you have to push them harder and advocate for yourself.

I’m having palpitations and heart rhythm issues and seems to all point to the hernia. Doc said it’s small but didn’t give me measurements. All tests on my heart seem to be good. Is this something that you can advise on?
Thank you for posting this video. I realize that all cases are different (with different contributing factors) but if these exercises are done daily in conjunction with 2x a week chiropractic treatment.... approx how long before symptoms stop completely. I'm just trying to get a better idea of an approx timeframe so that I know if I need further treatment etc.
It's hard to say, I will say this make sure the doc knows its not improving so he can go a little deeper. Some docs air on the side of patient comfort rather than results. I prefer to get in there good so as to pull the esophagus down. If you see results after first few treatments this is a good indicator you'll be helped. I'm not sure what your posture is like, but that's important too. Good luck and stick with it for at least 4-6 if no improvement I can suggest the prototype tool I'm working on
I have no symptoms except for perhaps sometimes burping from my hiatal hernia. I didn't even know I had it until I got an endoscopy and colonoscopy. I still do plank exercises that I learned at physical therapy for my bulging spinal disks in my back. I don't have any pain when doing them and they keep me strong. Should I stop doing them because of my diagnosis? My acid reflux went away when I became a vegan.
Should I start working on these exercises right away? Or should I wait until my silent reflux symptoms or more controlled?

Amazing!
Awesome! We now have a self help device it gets better! Www.refluxshield.com
Hey Jeanne, do you see any improvement?
i am having this for 5 years it ruined my life
What exactly did you do , to help your acid reflux????? Thank you
Most the doctors I went too , none told me what to do with my issues. :(
How are you right now??Has situation improved?
Drs are no help with HH, I follow Dr Jamie Koufman and read her book the Acid Reflux diet it’s fantastic I also use the iqoro device which helps a lot and these exercises!

So true! I watch and think ugh! I wish I was closer!
Thank you!!
I take it on my own , to visit every 6 months , to have EGD Test , to keep in check with my Esophagus ,
and GERD . This second time visiting , I found out 4 / 5/2023 , I have small hiatal hernia.
But I was NOT told, where or what to do to fix it . For now on I'm going every 5 months to have an
EGD test .
Have the maneuver done or wait for our device to come out soon.
@@Synergywellnessny is your device out yet? I would live to try it. I would just like my life back - have a 3 cm HH and have been put on PPI's which made me so sick.

Are u ok now plz reply
Pls help me how r u now I have 35cm hiatus hernia
Is surgery is mandatory for 35cm hiatus hernia
U may have an lpr if its throat,how r u feeling now,hope u r ok bro.

Had this issue for about 5 years. Tried other exercises that did not help.. I've been doing this once a day for a few months and there has been definite improvement. Thank you for sharing this.
Awesome!!
Then do it , many are asymptomatic w huatal hernia. Consider yourself blessed
These are definitly the best exercises for this issue that I have found. Thanks Dr. Kulla!!

@@ShashankRai-pc2heso this is all misinformation? The title suggests these are good to do when you have a hernia. Not after surgery.
( It is working for me but everyday the hernia slides up while sleeping, i try to adjust it with my fingers for that I could breath properly and get some quality sleep which I was lacking for almost an year)

Hello I’ve suffered with acid reflux, vomiting foamy soap substance, I was told many things, I have thoracic bulging, lower spine surgery yet I still suffer with a chronic cough that affects my daily life, I’ve prayed yet any advice will help, I’ve had many tests yet no significant dx for me. I will try the exercises, thank you and please pray for me, life is difficult with this issue thank you everyone and doctor
Hello, What kind of ball did you use in exercise 10 ? I forget what number but it’s where you used the bands, and doing leg extensions lying on floor. if you don’t have the bands can you still do it or do you have to modify it?
Lacrosse ball
This is helpful. Will be trying them. I need a ball that squishes like that. What kind of ball is it?
I rarely have gerd or reflux however, I always feel like I have something stuck in my throat and have chest pain at the breast plate from time to time. Can these exercises reverse a hiatal hernia? If surgical repair is needed, what is recommended? is there someone in the Houston area you would recommend?
They can if it’s a type 1 hernia. I recommend having the maneuver done with exc. I don’t know of anyone in houston. Sorry
Look up Advanced chiropractic relief on here...They are from Houston and I just saw a video of him dealing with these very things!
Omg who could do number 10 with Hiatal Hernia 😮
Get an endoscopy.
@@didloful I’m sorry you feel frustrated and ignored. You’re not alone. We have the self help tool coming out soon. Hang in there. Also try calling local chiropractors to see if they are familiar with this maneuver.
life recovering exercise brilliant thanks so much. they should employ you here on the NHS as a consultant you are miles I mean 1000000x times better than the doctors here. they are awful and so poor in the UK its beyond belief.
Thank you 🙏🏼 glad you got some help from these.
Totally agree, they don’t give a crap and just want to dish out pills or blame everything on Anxiety
UK is crap don't get fooled by how great the NHS is . The doctors don't want to know.
I've been on acid reducers for many years and its only gotten worse.
I have good posture, always have.
I am now considering surgery.
Thanks, these are the most thorough exercises for HH I've seen! I wish I lived in NYC. Question: I'm assuming it's best to exercise on an empty stomach, however, is it counter productive to exercise with food in the stomach??
It might be more difficult with full stomach but if you can it won’t harm you
Even regular exercises shouldn't be with the stomach full. It comes back up.
I’m having palpitations and heart rhythm issues and seems to all point to the hernia. Doc said it’s small but didn’t give me measurements. All tests on my heart seem to be good. Is this something that you can advise on?
Thank you so much for this! Exactly what size is that ball in the tenth exercise?
You could use a small ball like a tennis ball or lacrosse ball or a slightly bigger ball the size of a large softball
I'm doing it right now 🙏
Thank you for posting this video.
Good luck and stick with it for at least 4-6 if no improvement I can suggest the prototype tool I'm working on
@@Synergywellnessny Duly noted. Thank you. I will be in touch if there's no improvement.
Could it be done if u hv scoliosis n been rod put in?My 17 years old son just been diagnosed with hernia
I recently found out I have a small one. Is it possible that doing these can avoid the procedure?
Absolutely! thats what we do help people avoid the surgery. We are coming out with a self help tool very soon.
Did you try it? Did it work
I have no symptoms except for perhaps sometimes burping from my hiatal hernia.
Keep doing what your doing!
updates?
Thanks; I had no idea that there were exercises for this rotten affliction.
Yes there are but the hiatal hernia maneuver is the most effective to relieve the symptoms quickly. Best of luck!
Thanks Doc. That Wall Angel one really gets at all those body parts!
It's harder than it looks, isn't it?
@@Synergywellnessny Yeah, looked a thing of nothing!
