Ok lemme get this straight. Shredder defeated by stubbing his toe, tripping over a shuriken and bursting into flames… Never underestimate the power of the TAS
I accidentally discovered that weird flickering glitch as a kid and used that to beat the game. Just like the TAS, I beat Shredder without moving (Not from the shuriken trick though). One of my proudest accomplishment.
@@willjohnboy You mean to ask have I beaten this game without glitches? I have but it's on an emulator. I beat it few years ago. No save states or glitches. Just from practice and my non existent skill.

You'd think the cartoon would have paid more attention to Donatello's ability to float through the air while shapeshifting into his enemies... maybe that was a comic-only thing :D
Another TAS that makes an already tight run tighter. The enemy maniulation and constant morphing is insane. The most noticeable improvements seem to be the boss fights, the driving and keeping lag down in enemy heavy areas with very shallow/no jumps. This record probably isn't going to broken any time soon I think. Only thing left is finding more glitches for time saving.
Beat this game legitimately once. Never again. Can't count how many times Shredder ended my games with his OHKO. Beat him the one time by stockpiling scrolls and spamming them to the end of the game.
The IBM version was literally impossible, due to a ceiling being too low over a gap in the sewers in area 3. You could not jump over the gap without hitting your head and falling into the water/pit and dying.

I love in a good TAS you look at the health bar and think for a sec he Better not get hit but immediately go yup let it ride!! Programmer got this!!!!!!!
I'm intrigued by the ending's implication that Splinter isn't a mutant, but rather is under some kind of rat curse that gets lifted upon Shredder's defeat.
I hate this game for how many hours I sunk into it as a kid and I never got past level 5. It was somewhat of a miracle that I ever got that far. I only ever played the C64 version of this and loading times really killed the fun. I do remember it was impossible to die during the bomb diffusing section though so I'd always sacrifice Raph to it.

That was both beautiful and disgusting at the same time. The Technodrome was gorgeous. I miss random mechanical crap. Everything has to be streamlined nowadays, and it's turned me into a curmudgeon.
Why does the turtle glitch out like that? It seems to take on the form of whatever enemy is sharing the same screen space. Also can someone explain why the shurikan stayed at the same spot and killed shredder? Sometimes the turtle didn't seem to do anything and still kill the boss, weird?
If you throw a projectile then while that first projectile is out you press your turtle against a platform and throw a second one it will stick in place. The second one must be thrown before the first leaves the screen.
Huff this game is hell, we are 4 brothers and each one was a turtle, I was Ralph the rebel, and each one of us took turns doing a level with his turtle, the water was the most difficult Hell, I remember that we barely got to pass 3 or 5 times, but we got lost in the search for the master splinter and we did not arrive, a friend helped us in telling us the way to get to rescue to the sensei, but only once did we get there and then we didn't know the next way and we lost, that's why when we reached the water level it was a martyrdom and we believed that after rescuing splinter it was over the game, but as I said once we arrived we saved it, but then we couldn't, I don't know what happened, a few years passed but we were able to pass it, how horrible.
3:04. Glad to see that the TAS author already knows that is all Michaelangelo and Rafael are good for in this game. Taking all the damage in the dam level. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a pretty old glitch: When you hold up+down and attack (different result if you jump+attack), the character you control will change sprites and something will happen (in case of Donatello a damage-dealing piece of Leo's sword will appear a certain distance away). Doing this with Raph will make him be able to pick up items that are way above him. Since regular controllers don't allow you to press 2 directions at once without breaking the plastic, bugs like that could pass during programming
My first guess is there pressing left and right at the same time which you can't do on a real controller. My second guess is they're doing that at a specific frame. Ultimately though I have no F idea
