- This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/4840M
TAS originally published on 2022-09-25
The original Castlevania is set in the year 1691. Simon Belmont must fight his way through the castle and destroy Count Dracula.
Challenger ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/C... ) and eien86 ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/e... ) improve the predecessor movie ( tasvideos.org/4342M ) by 00:06.79 seconds, thanks to better optimization of the scroll glitch as well as more clever ways of utilizing it.
There is also a run of this game which destroys as little as possible ( tasvideos.org/4371M ).
The MSX version ( tasvideos.org/2444M ) has been TASed as well!

And there's Simon's back injury. This run is canon.
Always excellent to see this game still being improved. Just when I think it can't be improved anymore
Crazy. I love the use of the scroll glitch for additional platforms
I know these TAS speedruns are something no human player could ever do but I still find them very amusing to watch
Love this game! CV1, CV3 and CV4 are my favourite games of all time. Masterpieces and a joy to play every single time
Castlevania 1 & super castlevania 4 are my most favorite castlevania games
2 never came close to feeling like any of the rest.
Why did you diss cv2 its amazing
Haters gonna hate, but my fav is Simon's quest
"Hey you, Belmont #5!"
- Death.
These glitches are so great to watch
Hes doin a lot of shit you normally cant do like shooting Boomerangs from a crouch. Also there are blocks at the end of the cave
level that shouldnt be there
The orb catch after the Death fight is absolutely beautiful.
Woah! I'm in par with the TAS after the first screen!
Hard as nails
3:41 was some of the most impressive subtle rhythm following i've ever seen in a TAS
When I saw that and o was like ( WTf?) they prob spent the most time doing this
One of best games ever that and 3 I even like Simon's Quest 😁😁
Random Vampire: Sire , how could you lose to weak Belmont who has no magic or allies , twice?
Simon:
I love castlevania
I love Castlevania too
Ah yes, who can forget the music of James Banana?
Wow. Nice job!
Unbelievable 😮!!!!
what was that?!? had been focused on human runs and hadn't seen a tas in a while for cv1. mind blown
The gargoyle area starting 5:10 is hilarious
Meanwhile Dracula's like "where tf did you come from?"
Wait, how are they killing bosses with only one hit?
Crit hit: when you take damage on the same frame the boss takes damage. I don't recall all the mechanics of it, but it's a glitch that's exploited.
With perfect timing you can do it in a normal playthru. Not just tas
Speedrunners do this on the bat and Dracula. See the world records
@lightfeather9953 nah the giant bat splits upto several and one hit is enough to kill them all if they line up
@@lonewolf8304
Wrong game
Meanwhile, in a lab somewhere:
"Holy water? Where the hell is my acid?"
I like old Family Guy too.
These glitches are getting nuts...
You know you're going to see some shit when the player ignores the holy water during the Dracula fight
How did you get those block to appear out of thin air? Witchcraft!
I think it is very specific screen mulipulation using Simon
Came here for this song 3:17
what is the technique to drain the bosses energy in a matter of seconds?
It's called a critical hit. You gotta hit them as they hit you and the game goes haywire with collision detection
I forgot enemies in this game drop sub weapons and even the ×2 and 3 power-ups
@2:38 is this a glitch or a level editor? What's the deal?
it's a glitch called 'scroll glitch' which is heavily abused of in this TAS. It totally looks like a level editor lol
Needs an update!
Why is the game in the description Castlevania 3 🤣
Idk
It's an automatic TH-cam ID system. It gets things wrong a lot.
Castlevania game viktori 🤠
I’d love to understand how the bosses are defeated so quickly.
I was curious myself, and poked around. This is a bit from one of the TASes on this game: "In certain conditions, attacking while taking damage causes Simon to strike behind him and greatly damage an enemy."
When you hit any enemy (not just bosses) with the whip on the exact same frame that you take damage, the whip deals damage for each frame of the whipping animation. Also, any time sprites overlap (like the mummies) they take damage for each frame that they are hit with a subweapon.
See summoning salt video about the speedruns of this game, it's used for the Dracula battle and bat boss by humans. The mummies are defeated very fast too via glitch
4:38 is it just me or does it look like Dracula's castle is flipping the bird
18 stages that's all one easy game
Wtf is going on the levels look different
The scrolling is being manipulated. Watch Displaced Gamers’ video to learn more.
200k rerecords 😂
Even if it's for time-saving, I love-hate how the final whip power up rarely spawns, and when it does it's always skipped.
EDIT: Also, why are there so few comments on the level manipulating shenanigans? I know most people who watch TASes don't play the actual game but... actually I just answered my own question.
What in the rearranged shit is this? I mean I bet it's still hard and all but moved platforms and such makes me think it's a hack.
not a hack, just glitch abuse of the game's scrolling mechanics =)
This game is visually garbage.
And also controlls are overall garbage.
Game mechanics are garbage.
Bosses are garbage.
Levels are garbage.
Themes are not so bad.
Storyline is mid.
I didn't get why this game is so popular
my man just expected a EARLY nes game to have perfect and carefully placed details

Look at Mega Man and tell me what you see.
Mega Man 1? compared to Castlevania, it's nothing special honestly, the first one isn't really that good
You're entitled to your opinions and all, and it's 100% valid.
But of all the things to not call garbage, story??? Not only is this an early NES game where the story is entirely in the instructions manual, but it's about as deep as a 5 page children's storybook. Come on.
Mega Man 1 has nowhere near the visual quality of CV1
